[UPDATE] Well, Joe learned one thing watching the Bucs brawl in practice with the Jets this morning in Florham Park, N.J.

It seems if the Bucs need an emergency quarterback, right tackle Luke Goedeke has a live arm.

Goedeke got into a couple of scraps this morning. Not unusual for the Central Michigan product. Depending on your definition, Goedeke is either a tonesetter or a hot head.

If someone was watching this morning wearing gangrene green, they probably think Goedeke is a hot head or worse.

Speaking after practice with a gnarly scratch on his neck, Goedeke regretted tossing a Jets helmet but vowed he will never back down to defend a teammate, or himself.

Following Mayfield suffering a “sack” but playing on, trying to make a play and throwing a pick, the line of scrimmage erupted with a nasty scrum. Goedeke emerged from the scrum with a Jets helmet in his hand, which he proceeded to launch some 35 yards downfield.

It wasn’t his first hassle of the day, either.

“Yeah, I mean, obviously not the greatest decision by me,” Goedeke said of the helmet toss. “But with that being said, I’m always going to defend my players. I’m going to defend myself for that matter.

“I’m not going to get punked and not do anything about it. I mean, especially on football field.”

Earlier, Goedeke got into it with Jets rookie defensive end David “Damon” Bailey. Words were exchanged. Hands thrown. Goedeke laid down the law early: Eff with me, you get popped.

Goedeke suggested this is almost to be expected.

“This kind of comes with the game, I guess,” Goedeke said. “Especially joint practices, I mean, you see stuff like this all the time. Obviously, you try and limit it, and I mean, make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“Obviously, I’m always going to stick up for my guys,” Goedeke said. “I’m always going to stick up for myself. I don’t care what happens.”

Goedeke is a known enforcer. To a lesser degree, so too is Cody Mauch. And Ben Bredeson.

And now you have guys like Josiah Trotter, Rueben Bain and A’Shawn Robinson (who also got into a scrap this morning) on defense. One thing is for sure: If the Bucs lose a game this season, they won’t do so without a fight.

The Bucs don’t appear they will tolerate being intimidated.

[UPDATE] Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, the Jets helmet that Goedeke tossed belonged to Jets cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers. The reason why Joe finds this interesting is that later in practice, Stiggers dropped (Jets coach Aaron Glenn later said Stiggers “passed out”) and had to be whisked off the field in an ambulance. Not sure if there are any dots to connect there, but who knows?
