Joel Glazer Talks To Vita Vea

August 18th, 2026

Buccaneers co-owner Joel Glazer.

Has there been movement on the Vita Vea contract front?

Buccaneers co-owner Joel Glazer was at Bucs training camp practice today — on the field. That’s notable because Glazer is rarely seen on the field at practice.

Glazer was seen talking briefly to Vea. Joe missed it but was able to confirm the chat with Glazer himself after practice.

Glazer also was seen talking at length with Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht.

Vea left the practice field in exceptionally good spirits. While he didn’t practice, Vea did participate enthusiastically afterwards with a couple of teammates as part of a Buccaneers social media exercise.

Feel free to speculate.

Was Glazer saying good-bye to Vea and letting him know he’ll be in the Buccaneers Ring of Honor one day, or was Glazer expressing how pleased he is that progress has been made on a change to Vea’s contract?

Hopefully goodbye and a nice draft pick and a player.

The Glazers act like they don’t have any money with their combined net worth of $10B

  4. Steve V Says:

Its not about the money’s anymore, the dude asked for a trade,he doesn’t want to be in tampa! Why would you extend him ,

  5. Steve V Says:

In the same breath you have a player, playing out his contract, trade him now ..

  6. KABucs Says:

It’s not about their net worth or how much they’re willing to spend, it’s about the cap and how much they can spend and how to balance the cap and how to play games with a cap. More you pay vita, the less you have for somebody else so you basically lose a young guy to keep an old guy. It’s a balancing act and it’s super complicated.

  7. 3rd and 28: Says:

    Send him to the browns!

  8. OurYear Says:

@Joe – can/is anybody able to confirm if Vita is doing any type of rehab on his poor injured back???? We get reports on others rehabbing. Is he just doing nothing??? I’m soured on him. Be a man and play out your contract. I don’t want him on our team now.

  9. LouisFriend Says:

Vita’s contract isn’t enough to bring a Glazer family member to the practice field. The Glazers haven’t interfered much with the Bucs daily operations since the disastrous cost cutting debacle of 2009. My guess is Joel told Vita he hopes everything works out and went on his way.

A Mayfield contract extension might involve enough cash paid out to bring the whole Glazer family, however.

  10. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Maybe he was offered a Houlihan’s franchise under the table deal

  11. Eckwood Says:

Glad if he stays three ,,, yr 78 mil or understand if he’s traded ….. hv to get a 2 nd and a starter/ player with at least two yrs on contract …… or (he’s top 5 )for a top 15 and a 3rd………. a first doesn’t help this yr don’t think that would happen w out a great 4 yr contract agreed to……… This team needs to change it’s attitude and Vea just may not positive for that or simply, he isn’t !!
Great Guy but not Suh or Robinson in bringing out extreme effort and rejecting half efforts and failure . Bowles and every member of this defense over the past two years, pretty much a failure accepter ……… this team as much as or more than any is in need of an attitude change and they didn’t get rid of Bowles or the Soft Owners . So the players on this team have got to lead ( hardy Nickerson style)it’s not going to be ownership or coaching.

  12. Fred Says:

So Vita we’re not extending you, but we’ll give you a 5 mil raise how does that sound?

  13. BakerFan Says:

I prefer he stays, playing healthy for another 2 years and lets see how the defense can develop.

    ^^^^^^^^^^

Is this what people seriously think?
The NFL has a cap. It doesn’t matter how much loot the owner has. Look at the Bucs cap spending the last six years. They are over the cap. That means the team spends more then they are supposed to on their players. They got creative by pushing the money to future years … that’s where dead cap comes into play. The Bucs had $80M, $60M, $30M in dead cap over a three year perioud. They spent $170M more than most other teams. The Glazers aren’t shy about spending. They just choose to spend money on winning teams.

And you think the Glazers are cheap?

  15. ocala Says:

Vea has been a really good player for the Bucs and dominant in one on one situations, but if the Bucs could get a 2nd or 3rd round pick and a solid cornerback to help this years team i would think that would be tough to pass up.

  16. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

A bump and two year including this year with guaranteed money… a bump not a top DT money

JTHV is an absolute moronh if JTHV doesn’t know there’s a salary cap in the NFL.

They could be worth ten times the net worth of Elon Musk and still not be able to pay the man. Not because they don’t have it, but because the salary cap money isn’t there.

Cruise on over to overthecap(dot)com and see for yourself: $8.5 million under the cap and two guys asking for at, near, or more than $8 million in pay raises.

This ain’t fantasy football, ya dink. #facepalm

  18. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Isn’t Joel Glazer the member of the family that holds the pen that signs the checks and also has a hand in the day-to-day operations of the franchise? I’ve seen quick cut up vids on of him also talking to Bowles. Glazer isn’t going to show up at practice for nothing, and wouldn’t be surprised if he’s getting intel on the importance of Vita from peers and coaches.

Anzalone said it on the broadcast the other night, when Vita cut into his interview and simply said “we need him” lol smart guy this Anzalone. If I signed expecting to play behind Vita Vea, you better make sure Vita Vea is here to make my job less arduous.

  19. Allen Lofton Says:

I seriously doubt that Mr Glazer discussed saying good bye to Vita Vea. Actually it speaks highly that we was on the field and talked with Vita. Hopefully it’s a win for everyone.

  20. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Cruise on over to overthecap(dot)com and see for yourself: $8.5 million under the cap and two guys asking for at, near, or more than $8 million in pay raises.”

Salary to signing bonus conversion. Convert this years’ salary to a bonus and prorate it over the course of an extension. Would drop $17M of Veas’ base cap figure this year, and give him what he’d make per game in 2026 as a bonus while freeing up MORE SALARY CAP.

There’s ways around this problem, plausible win/win ways.

  21. SteveK Says:

My preference would be to resign Vita and let the big dog eat. He’s a great player and should be one for the next 2-3 seasons. I’d pay him no questions asked. He’s a top 10 DT and arguably the best nose tackle in football. Sign my dude.

  22. Chris Says:

I dont understand the “fans” that are rooting for Vita to be traded. I wish we could trade these so-called “fans”

  23. 813bucboi Says:

Glazer most likely said we’ll get this done within the next 48hours, cant wait to see you in pads…

Vita will get what he wants….a raise and a couple more years….all the “trade em” folks will be crying a river lol

    Pay Vita!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  24. JTHV Says:

    JTHV Says:

Listen effboys, I was referring to them not wanting to spend money. It’s the owners who have to payout immediate signing and other types of bonuses. They are playing the cheap game this year, while raising ticket prices. Their 2026 play has been so bad they’re once again offering half-season ticket packages.

Every decision the Glazers has made since keeping Bowles has been a public disaster and terrible look for the health of the franchise.

  27. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Eckwood – You are soooo far gone and outside of reality, it’s ridiculous. Just absolutely clueless.

  28. Lou. Says:

Here’s what I see as reality with VV:

    1. (Negatives ) — He’s not a great player, certainly not a well rounded one. He’s not in the whole time (usually). He takes some plays off (naturally). The Bucs to have players and alternate schemes at the ready for times he’s off the field.

    2. (Positives) — VV has a superpower, one that no other teams have. Never seen anyone ragdoll multiple OLs all the time. Every OC has to account for him each play he’s in, plus that OC has to have a “regular” plan for the line when he’s out. Vea doesn’t have great takeoff but he doesn’t need to: he walks back the pocket or goes through blocking. And tbf he has surprising but not elite quickness.

    3. (Scheme Fit) — Vea changes how the Bucs play. When he’s in the middle run lanes are clogged: runners can get through but it’s hard. When he’s in it’s hard to set a pocket up front and the other rushers have extra space. (That hasn’t helped our other guys too much except for Kancey nowadays —Su and JPP took full advantage back in the day — but that’s a team talent problem). And no other team has a weapon like this so he gives TB scheme options.

    4. (Value) — It looks like the Bucs have chosen to move on. VV will not be here next year. The team looks to be planning for a future with larger DLs but with no oversized NT. But other teams with other needs and goals will see things differently. VV is unique and is a difference maker on a loaded roster. Expect teams inside of a Super Bowl window to show lots of interest. They could overpay because there isn’t a talent available who can do the super inside strength routine and because Licht doesn’t have to act — the Bucs can wait for greed for the player and fear of VV going to another contender increase.

Bottom Line — Expect VV to be traded. Most likely trade partner is the Bills. Return will likely be a #1 (Bills pick late and Jason just won’t do the deal without a good return).

  29. DoooshLaRue Says:

Biotches should not be rewarded financially.
    I want him gone.

  30. Hodad Says:

813, I’d like to see them bump his salary this, end add a year. Vea has plenty of good football left in him.

  31. El Hefe Bucc Says:

If you’re not getting the money, you deserve why would you wanna be in a place that they’re not trying to give it to you? I want him to stay and I also want him to be paid not top dollar but a lil bit more he is a force and for those to say trade him and tank your the reason why Tampa players get annoyed playing for us y’all don’t appreciate the team enough be a bucc fan is a hard knocked life frfr if that’s not your speed, then don’t be a Bucks fan

  32. Paratrooper Buc Says:

Resolution. I just hope this means there is resolution on whether he remains a Buc or is traded and this is not dragged out any further.

  33. El Hefe Bucc Says:

So let me get this straight if you guys worked at McDonald’s and you signed the contract for $10 an hour and then recently they boosted everybody up in the McDonald’s to 20 bucks an hour y’all gonna sit back and say hey I’ll take my $10 an hour and and go ahead and keep working no you’re gonna ask for your 20 and he’s not asking for his 20 he’s asking for somewhere in the middle

  35. Erik with Clean Athletics™ Says:

I think this is a sign that Vea will be staying here, at least with a raise for this year.

  36. buddygru Says:

Neither Vea or Licht deserve to be in the Ring of Honor are you crazy???

  37. Obvious One Says:

    @Chris

Most of the guys acting like they know what they’re talking about concerning our very best haven’t been around very long. Most are transplants with No Real skin in the game of Tampa Bay “Fandom”. They bounce around following their temp messiah…. Whoever that maybe this week..

So it’s a Whole Lot of “fake news from fake fans”. And any pop ups from the past with continuous butt hurt tery, well they so discontent because they aren’t happy with things in general. So nothing changed for them even when times WERE actually good.

They actually DO have skin in the game, they just don’t realize it until the gloves come off. (Or in other words, when THEY GET PUNCHED IN THE MOUTH!)

So, no worries Chris. None of our “opinions” means a thing. It’s THE MONEY I’m not spending THAT DOES!

Keep your “focus in that direction” because if you don’t, these owners will continue to put a shaky and poorly designed product on the field for you to be Embarrassed By for many years to come. OR YOU CAN show them that the owners and management to you are Number #1 with your middle finger and let “them” KNOW that YOU DESERVE AND DEMAND A BETTER PRODUCT AND THAT YOU WON’T BE SPENDING A FREAKING PENNY TOWARDS THAT FAILURE UNTIL THEY DO THE RIGHT THING “FOR THE FANS WHO PAY FOR IT”!!!

Until then… YOU DON’T “OWE THEM” A THING!

  38. Bosch Says:

    I agree with Buddygru.

  39. Buc1987 Says:

    Glazer’s thinking:

Lazy fat m’fer get your fat ass out there and honor your contract.

  40. Steve V Says:

He asked to be traded ! BINGO! give him what he wants, be careful what you wish for

  41. Capebuc Says:

Which do you think it is, Joe?

  42. Sean Says:

He came down to tell him he’s getting paid or being traded. The rarely seen owner didn’t come down to One BUC to talk to him “briefly “ and ask About his back…

  43. Lee Cohen Says:

Very good news! The man who can pay – Joel Glazer talking to both the Kraken (Vea) and the money guru (Licht) and everyone smiling is good news! Hopefully, Vea, his attorney, and Licht can all come to terms with a contract for three years and $75 million for the guy who really does change the nature of the opposing offense to account for him. Anyone who doubts that the KRAKEN is not a force should take a look at the youtube videos devoted to him moving around people (giants on the other side). This is really (should be) a no brainer for the Bucs.

Same people that say let baker walk, trade Vita and draft picks draft picks, are the same ones that wonder why we suck for decades and then have 2 ok seasons and maybe a superbowl win and then suck again for decades. 🤦🏻‍♂️

  48. Brian Says:

My simple and imo fair deal. 2 yrs 60mil extension. He gets to say he got 30/per and when you average it out over all 3, it’s really 26mil

  49. Rastafarian-Jenkins Says:

I’d rather have a 26 year old YaYa resigned to go along with Baker’s extension. VV’s attitude and disrespect towards the Bucs and his teammates showed his true colors. Ship him off for a 2nd, no RoH. Thnks fr th Mmrs

  50. HeavyE Says:

Trade him to the Browns for Sanders, we can solve two problems at once…..
