Fight(s)!
August 4th, 2026Things were chippy inside the Glazer Shed tonight. Joe is guessing guys were tired of pounding each other and the defense was tired of giving up passes.
There were two dustups, one toward the end of practice that looked like it was about to get out of hand. After people calmed down, Bucs coach Todd Bowles gathered his team to scold them to knock off the nonsense and focus on their jobs: football.
The first hassle had Josiah Trotter in the mix. He was really starting to get physical and blasting people and hollering. Bucs coach Todd Bowles didn’t exactly deny Trotter had something to do with the dustup as he said, “He’s probably a guy you don’t want to mess with.”
Both offenses and defenses converged along the sideline. Referees and coaches joined in to try to break it up.
Joe was told by a member of the Bucs media crew that he saw Jayson Jones on his back. That’s pretty impressive because the defensive lineman from Auburn is 6-6, 340.
Justin Skule was seen jawing too.
In between the hassles, Joe saw Alex Anzalone blast Kenny Gainwell near the left sideline and Joe thought it was a rather physical play the way Anzalone tackled Gainwell to the ground out of bounds, but not dirty.
Anzalone was rather pleased with himself and he whooped it up going back to the huddle.
Then, Dean Patterson (Georgia Tech) scored an easy touchdown and walked into the end zone on the far left of the field.
Joe had a bad angle and never did catch the number of the Bucs defender who, well after the play, walked over, grabbed Patterson and rag-dolled him to the ground. Not unlike what Ndamukong Suh would do to drama queen Aaron Rodgers.
That sparked a second hassle. Joe thought the same culprit Gronk-spiked his helmet. There was definitely a helmet in the air — rare to see. Joe, however, was screened as some 22 guys were going at it.
Joe was later told by a Bucs player that YaYa Diaby threw the helmet. Dang, Joe didn’t know YaYa had that in him. (Joe never did find out who threw Patterson to the turf.)
Then Joe saw Payne Durham and YaYa jawing and just like that, they began bro-hugging. LOL
(Joe didn’t see YaYa after practice and Joe noticed Payne Durham left right away with his country singer fiancée Macy Kate.)
Joe spoke to several Bucs players after practice and they all played dumb about what happened. LOL
That was easily the most spirited, if not physical, practice Joe has seen in a while. If that was what the Bucs meant in the offseason when they said they wanted to be more violent and passionate, their goal might have been reached.

Bucs hyped 2nite in Tampa

Pay em all more lol

I like seeing some edge from these guys, it will come in handy when the real games start.

I don’t think this is a bad thing. It reminds of the’ ’84 Bears team. Buddy Ryan’s defense hated Mike Ditka’s offense. They would break out into fights quite often. Of course they did pretty well that season. Hopefully the refs aren’t throwing to many flags during the games. The last couple of seasons they seemed to have it out for the Bucs.

Even Mike Ditka’s offense hated Mike Ditka’s offense. It was prehistoric.

Yep. Here we go… I told ya! They’re all at each other’s THROATS, and HATE each other NOW. All this contract talk and players ‘sittin-in’ and brangin’ their KIDS to PRACTICE and everything… It’s done KILLED the comradery of the whole Team. Players are now FIGHTEN. It’s ALL Bowles’s FAULT. They have DESTROYED this entire locker room… They better write about a $500-MILLION CHECK RIGHT NOW, and put a STOP TO THIS!!!! We can’t have THIS. They all MUST love one another. CHEAPSKATES. LoL.

This offense vs. defense mentality has been brewing since OTA’s. I like it. Brothers fight in the heat of competition.

Lovely, good to hear. We ready to bang with the Jets and see what’s what so far this year. But extend Vita already n Baker too, let’s get NASTY out there. Ashawn and Vita with Bain a Yaya sounds NASTY and Trotter and Anzalone will be very stout.

If these guys can stay healthy (and solve some contract issues) this team is gonna make some noise this year.

Good! This team has been in desperate need of an edge. I’m all for camaraderie, but we need to see passion out of these guys for once. Lick each others’ asses and then hug it out later.

Brian,
“Lick each others’ asses and then hug it out later.“ save that sentence for the Glazers and Coach Bowles. 😁

Yaya—-all smoke and no fire.
August 5th, 2026 at 6:49 am
@MelvinJunior: Please tell me that was sarcasm.

More fight and physicality than the entire second half of last season. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Especially on Defense!
August 5th, 2026 at 7:28 am
Sounds like Anzalone and Trotter will be enforcers at LB!
August 5th, 2026 at 7:48 am
Yes, they are certainly setting a tone, aren’t they? Love it.
August 5th, 2026 at 8:18 am
Maybe it’s just me, but I used to like it when a couple of the teammates would get a little froggy at practice. It tends to fire everyone up.
August 5th, 2026 at 9:11 am
I’d rather they learn to keep their wits and emotions under control. Stupid players doing stupid things for penalties. No Bucs beating Bucs.
August 5th, 2026 at 9:53 am
Im sure Bowled threatened to put them in time out for a few minutes if they didnt calm their potty attitudes.
August 5th, 2026 at 12:15 pm
I love this.

“Mayfield’s deep-ball accuracy is on tonight.” Good to hear. Thanks Joe!
Where is Jensen when you need him? LOL Read that Mauch was in the mix on one of the scrums. That is a good sign. Playing with some heart.
Go Bucs!
