“Effort Is Outstanding”

August 12th, 2026

Happy with his team’s work.

It seems cracking heads with another team wearing another jersey, playing a different scheme in a different city, state and atmosphere, is exactly what the Bucs needed.

That’s the impression Joe got after hearing KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles speak about the two controlled (?) scrimmages with the Jets this week.

After a day off tomorrow, the Bucs are scheduled to play their first worthless preseason game Friday night.

Training camp can be mind-numbingly redundant. How many times can you face teammates using the same moves over and over and over again, day after day?

So the scrimmages against a different team are mentally beneficial. And Bowles thinks that’s just what the doctor ordered.

“Effort was outstanding,” Bowles said. “Young guys got a chance to play against different schemes.

“They got thrown in there early so there is a lot of tape. There is a lot of things to learn from.

“The effort was great. Just have to clean up some things.”

It was a fun practice today. Ted Hurst showed he can hang with a first-team defense wearing a different color jersey. Not just hang, but produce.

Rueben Bain got beasting in, destroying a Jets drive late in practice with mutlple sacks. Rookie inside linebaker Josiah Trotter, as has been the case back in Tampa, energized the defense when he played.

Baker Mayfield was sharp in a one-minute drill.

Emeka Egbuka getting rolled up on — Bowles had no updates, as he didn’t even see the injury — may be the only black cloud in the horizon.

Hopefully it’ll keep up in a couple of weeks for the regular season & hopefully Bowels doesn’t screw anything up because this team really does have the talent on it to be a good team.

Was reading what Jets media thought about yesterday scrimmage. They said the Bucs showed how to be the Jets if things don’t change, Robinson calling a lot of quit hitters did not give a pass rush to develop and the younger guys could not adjust and read quick enough to stop things.

Cudo’s to Robinson. Taking what the defense is giving you.

Pre Season hype no longer works for me. I pay no respect for this. Maybe it sells some tix I hope. I await the reality of the regular season. Been there done that for the Bucs and Bowles.

Great, another injury to one of our darlings that no one saw. He has become so great he feels like he doesn’t need the practice. Fits right in

  7. Stpetematt Says:

Sounds like what I was thinking- that the Jets defense was frequently showing blitz so Robinson called lots of screens to counter it. And it worked. No surprise there…

  8. Jeffbuc Says:

Pro football talk said it was just a minor toe injury and he should be good to go when practices resume this weekend

  9. I may be crazy but Says:

Heard on radio that he was on the sidelines wearing a boot.

  10. SummerofGeorge Says:

    “Effort was outstanding,” Bowles said.

We heard this after every crushing loss during the 2-7 stretch run.

    Just gotta scheme it better……
