YaYa Diaby Calls Camp A Success, Predicts Top-10 Defense

YaYa Diaby was all smiles today talking to JoeBucsFan.com after his youth football camp in Tampa.
It was a one-day, privately-run camp, Diaby’s first as a professional.
“I had so much fun, man,” Diaby said. “I didn’t break this much sweat since last year at training camp.”
Diaby said he was very happy with the turnout, over 60 kids working hard for three hours. And Diaby got an assist from fellow Bucs players Devin Culp and Anthony Nelson, along with former Bucs edge rusher Cam Gill, known best for his half-sack of Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
Diaby was impacted as a kid attending Morgan Burnett camps in Georgia, he told Joe, and Diaby has been eager to run his own camp. Burnett was a local Georgia hero who had a 10-year NFL career with the Packers, Steelers and Browns.
To Joe’s suprise, Diaby said the young attendees asked him very few Bucs questions and none that stood out.
Diaby is fired up for his next camp, Bucs training camp in about 2 1/2 weeks. The new look Bucs defense Diaby saw in the spring, he said, looks like a top-10 NFL defense. In fact, that’s what Diaby predicts fans will experience.
The rest of Diaby’s summer will be in Tampa. He said he’s been training at One Buc Palace with Tristan Wirfs, Luke Goedeke, Benjamin Morrison and Devin Culp, among others. And he’d love for Bucs fans to come out strong in July and August.
“Just come out there, support us and cheer loud; it’s going to be a great camp,” Diaby said.

This is the guy the Bucs need to give an extension. You can resign him on the cheap. With the addition help from the line and Bain, YAYA is about to blow up. He will go from 17 -20 million to 30 million a year. sign the guy now.

We obviously have to take it for what it is at this point – talk. But you have to love his upbeat, positive attitude. And, YaYa has the experience to know that if he says “Top ten”, he’ll look like an absolute idiot if they are really bottom ten.
I think that the players have hit the reset button and are fully refreshed and ready to face the challenges of the new season with confidence. It’s good to witness!

I’ve with YaYa on his prediction. I’m very HOPEFUL that our Bucs’ defense can claw its’ way back into the Top-10 this year. Our defense has a LOT of new moving parts & it might take awhile to gel, but it looks to have much better starting talent AND depth IMO than we had last season.
And JMarkBuc … your comment ‘No offense intended.. but Yaya doesn’t know what a top 10 defense looks like’ isn’t exactly correct. As a rookie, YaYa got 7.5 sacks on our 2023 defense. The same defense that only gave up 325 pts and ranked #7 in scoring in the NFL. He’s a keeper.

And kudos to Devin, Nelly and Cam for helping out.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how YaYa does with Rueben opposite him this year, and whether his numbers go up. He’s kind of been on his own for a couple of years.
Hassan unfortunately just didn’t work out. Ideally Rueben will.
Top 10 defense?
I’m a ljttle more skeptical on that one, but with our draft and FA signings we should see a marked improvement this year.

Simple T: Who ran the defense (into the ground) the last 2 years? Lovie Smith got his team to the Super Bowl, does he deserve a lifetime contract because of it? No, and Bowles doesn’t, either.

Maker Bayfield need a top 10 defense to have a chance to even sniff the Championship Game anything less then he’ll feel the need to take more risks with the ball and his body

I guess Culp should enjoy his last 2 months as an “NFL player” – because its likelier than not that come September he will be looking for work.
And unless another team takes a flier on him because of his 40 time + 5 NFL receptions and signs him to their practice squad – Culp will be spending this winter trying to figure out how to make a paycheck in the real world…..
