Todd Bowles Says People Don’t Understand Baker Mayfield
July 30th, 2026
Is Baker Mayfield misunderstood?
Joe doesn’t think so. Mayfield is a driven and emotional player. He’s pushed through highs and lows in his career and he looks for motivation everywhere while staying consistent in his work ethic and approach to teammates.
Teammates love him, as do ex-players leaguewide. Lots of opponents appreciate Mayfield, too, though not all.
Pretty simple, right?
Todd Bowles doesn’t think everyone gets Mayfield, so he told Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports. Per Bowles, Mayfield’s contract impasse won’t phase him whatsoever.
“It’s going to be business as usual for him, and that’s what everybody doesn’t understand,” Bowles said. He’s such a pro and such a heck of a guy that he’s going to get the job done no matter what. You know, and that’s what you really love about him.”

Nice to see Todd continue his Jets legacy here in Tampa Bay. The Jets have been on a historic 10 year run since TB left the team. Looking like he is setting the Bucs up for a similar fate.
J E T S …. BUcs, Bucs, Bucs.

I don’t know where he’s getting that from. Certainly not from this blog. Readers her are divided on when Baker should get paid, If baker should get paid an how much Baker should get paid. I can’t recall anyone saying that Baker was not going to give 100% because he hasn’t gotten paid.

Too bad Vita Vea doesn’t have the same attitude.
July 30th, 2026 at 12:45 pm
I bet the Bucs low balling Baker with a crap offer is one of the reasons Vita wants out. He probably realizes the Bucs are low-key rebuilding (tanking?) and wants no part of it.
I’m having flashbacks of the Morris/Dominic days. You know, the beginning of The Lost Decade. Damn, I hope the Glazers aren’t dumb enough to do that again.

Self imposed implosion!

Glazers don’t care …
That is perfectly CLEAR!

LMAOOOOOOOO! I’m gonna paraphrase somebody who replied to my “wrong bust” comment the other day.
Funny, but harsh.
…but absolutely true…

To not understand Baker Mayfield is to disrespect him. I feel it is disrespectful to disrespect Baker Mayfield.

Sure you’re not paraphrasing yourself from when you replied to your own post ? 🤣🤣🤣

I think we understand perfectly, he’s an average qb has been his whole career but local media and half the fan base still thinks it’s 2018. Baker is living off 2018 Bowles and licht is living off 2020. It’s sad how low the standards are for this franchise since 2020.

This FO is a mess. JL is indeed the worst GM in the league. I think he might have a problem or two that is clouding his thinking. Glazers need to step in. It’s not a safe building anymore. One by one the players are either leaving or will leave after this season. JL, you are the reason.

Even Baker referenced that this type of “motivation” is not the type of chip on his shoulder that he’ll use this season. It’s a negative that has a tendency to de-motivate – he has to clear it and focus on doing his job.
And with the context of NONE of those Buc players seeking an extension: Vita Vea, Yaya Diaby, Cody Mauch or Chase McLaughlin, received an extension… speaks to something going on.
Baker can clear this and focus on his job, and things will take care of itself – but can Vita, or any of the others? Hope so, we’ll see, but it’s a distraction and it’s coming from the organization…not the players.

Blah blah blah.
It’s horse crap to say that this isn’t going to affect Baker and the rest of the team. But that’s what Bowles has to say because he’s standing on the edge of unemployment.
It wasn’t clear at the time, but when Arians forced ownership and the GM to accept Bowles as head coach by waiting so late to quit that he knew the Bucs could not go out and get someone on the open market, their fate was sealed.
Bowles was never competent. He could never have gotten another job in an open competition.
This has been a slow disintegration ever since that suddenly, within the last three or four days, has reached a crisis point of no return at least for 2026.
You could write a book on bad management based on these clowns.

I understand with the game on the line Baker is going to turn it over and choke it away
vs ATL Home in Prime Time
4th Quarter Interception
Vs AINTs
3rd Quarter Interception
Chance to win the game the offense goes 4 and out
@Carolina
4th Quarter INT
@Miami
4th Quarter INT
4th Quarter Fumble
4 winnable games choked away, Franchise QB’s usually do not have multiple 3 game losing streaks in a single season. Baker here as QB has had too many of them.

Bowles means what he’s saying Mod Hair Ken. As a matter of fact , he would be better off not saying that about Baker because if things don’t go well then Todd has an excuse!

I feel bad for Bowles. He has been sabotaged since day one by this front office. First they were in salary cap hell coming off the Brady years and management has not been all in ever since. As a matter of fact, both Baker and Bowles have been pawns in this game of chess. Bowles and Baker have been jointly given daggers in the back. This I think was the plan all along. Surprisingly , the Bucs were able to remain relevant as a competitive team on the field and as a viable going concern financially. Now the cap is under control and the rebuild can begin.
