Bucs Training Camp 2026 Day 2 Practice Notes

July 30th, 2026

Ko Kieft, left, and Bauer Sharp lock horns during tight end drills Thursday.

Fun, busy day at One Buc Palace. With all the drama today, it was very easy to forget there was a Bucs practice. And that was fun, too. So below are some nuggets Joe jotted down in his notes about practice today under an overcast sky.

Yes, it is still underwear football. The pads come on next week.

* Bucky Irving takes a handoff from Baker Mayfield, runs left, plants a foot and darts upfield just outside of Luke Goedeke at right tackle. Good gain.

* Mayfield is flushed out of the pocket by YaYa Diaby to the left. Nearing the left sideline, Mayfield just throws the ball away.

* Mayfield throws to Kenneth Gainwell on a short pass along the left sideline. Gainwell dances to get some extra yardage.

* Mayfield throws to the left sideline, this time for Emeka Egbuka. The second-year Bucs receiver cuts upfield and Joe couldn’t tell if Egbuka dropped the ball or if Antoine Winfield had one of his patented punchouts. Either way, the ball fell to the turf and Winfield scooped it up.

* Sean Tucker runs up left tackle.

* PICK! Jake Browning appeared to be aiming for a tight end on a short pass down the right seam, but on an overthrow (?) head-butting John Bullock picks it off.

* Browning throws down the left sideline for Tez Johnson and he makes a strong catch, over-the-shoulder catch, burning Josh Hayes. (This won’t be the last time Hayes is roasted by Tez). The pass was pretty darn good, too.

* Mayfield to Egbuka over the middle and Egbuka skies to haul it in.

* Gainwell runs up the middle. There’s not much room, so he breaks into a dance hoping to juke defenders. It didn’t really work. He may have gotten a yard. Maybe.

* Mayfield throws maybe 10-12 yards down the left hashmarks and hits Cade Otton in the fingers about cock-high. Otton couldn’t hang on. Somewhere, Tom Brady grumbles about gloves.

* Browning connects with Kameron Johnson down the right sideline and Johnson breaks free for a big gain.

Red zone

* Mayfield rolls left and tries to connect with Otton again but the pass was too low. Mayfield throws to the far left corner of the end zone but it’s too far.

* Tucker runs up the four-hole, off-right guard and gets a few yards.

* Bad snap. The ball rolls to Browning, who is able to recover the ball and throw left but it is incomplete.

* Browning throws to the back of the end zone and Tez Johnson makes an excellent catch along the back line.

* It may be really premature because the pads haven’t come on yet (that’s next week). But it sure appears that Tez has really made a leap in his second year in the NFL.

Two-minute drill

* The Bucs sure hope to see this a lot this fall: Rueben Bain blew up a play all by himself. Mayfield went back for a screen pass and Bain tore through the offensive line. Joe wasn’t sure he was supposed to block him but after Bain got two steps past the line, Otton attempted to delay him (Bain wasn’t getting blocked by a tight end). Good effort but it didn’t stop Bain at all. Mayfield saw the Miami Mauler bearing down on him and quickly dirted the ball.

* Bucky with a huge gain up the middle.

* Mayfield rolls right and throws to Jalen McMillan who goes low to scoop up the pass.

* Mayfield throws to the left for Bucky who shakes and bakes free for some nice production.

* Mayfield throws short to Gainwell to the right.

* Tucker gets three touches in a row. He runs up the middle. Then he catches a pass over the middle from Browning and then he runs right.

* BOMB! Browning launches a ball down the middle for Tez who was running shading right, maybe inside the right hashmarks. Once Tez reached the end zone he outmaneuvered Hayes — who had good coverage on Tez — by quickly adjusting to the ball and catching it right at the backline of the end zone. For icing on the cake, Tez does a backflip. The full house in attendance roared its approval. Browning’s pass was at least 50 yards.

* It must be the shoes: Yesterday, Tez must have woken and dressed in the dark. He wore a fluorescent red shoe on his right foot and a green fluorescent shoe on his left. Christmas shoes in July? Today, he wore matching red shoes.

* Browning tries for Tez again in the back of the end zone, though a much shorter pass, and the ball was too tall for Tez. He’s not Manute Bol.

So excited to hear bain being a monster less excited to hear all this drama from the bucs hasn’t left since the end of last season good gracious.

    Great notes as always!

“Mayfield rolls left and tries to connect with Otton again but the pass was too low. Mayfield throws to the far left corner of the end zone but it’s too far.”

More overthrows and underthrows, hes consistentat that. And it seems hes missing Evans’ height in the redzone. Has Baker thrown a TD yet? The backup Browning has 2 TDs over 40+ yds per.

Good to see Bain making his presence felt.

Its called PRACTICE for a reason

    Thanks Joe!

Tez and Browning were definitely on the same page today! Bucky looked super quick – like 2024. Anzalone looked great in coverage, knocking a pass away from Bucky.

Saw a VERY animated Licht talking to Bowles. Have the Glazers handcuffed Licht?

Funny how observations from the same practice can be so different between 2 Buc fan sites.

I’d say it to his face. What’s Incredibly Average Todd Bowles, a man who can’t miracle his way away from a .500 record, gonna do? Give me a reason to call the Dolman Law Group?

Facts is facts, as they say.

    That sounds like contact.

  14. Simple T Says:

Yea, sure you would Bucco. 🤣
Just like all the little whiners talking smack behind your keyboards around here.

Are you also Eric ? Along with Bucco and SB LV ?

  15. Inwoodjeremy Says:

Almost Otton. Almost blocks, almost catches, almost breaks tackles, almost gets to the sticks. Otton is a almost guy.

  16. Goodbuc'nlife Says:

Joe, no mention of Ted Hurst? Is he a ghost for the first two days?

  17. Mike Says:

Tez seems motivated to hold on to the WR4 spot over the rookie Hurst. That’s going to be a great battle!

    Not at all.

  21. Vanessa Anne Says:

Joe, once again, thank you for the notes. 🙂

Browning’s gotten some negative chatter recently, but two days with two long bombs for TDs isn’t too bad. Maybe the negative press is motivating him.

Sounds like Chris is fully healed and back to his 2024 pre-injury self. Yay!

Looks like Baker and Cade are suffering from misfires and wobbly hands. I won’t start worying till the end of camp.

Great to see all three of our RBs taking snaps and getting some yardage out of it.

Joe, any word on David Walker?
