Baker Mayfield Touchdown Maker With Bucs

June 21st, 2026

“Keep doubting me, fools!”

Hopefully, things change this fall. For the better.

“This Joe” is still shook by Baker Mayfield’s woeful second half of last season. Yeah, there were a lot of factors why he stunk. Still, a franchise quarterback finds a way to win just one game instead of losing seven of the Bucs’ final nine (and not crap the bed against the tanking Dolphins), which cost the Bucs a playoff spot.

So which Mayfield will the Bucs get this fall,t he Mayfield that for 2 1/2 seasons was one of the NFL’s best? Or will fans get the second half of last season, which made many warmly reminisce of the good ol’ days with America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston?

Until Mayfield and the Bucs hit the skids after the bye, Mayfield has absolutely thrived.

In fact, in the past three years, even including the 2025 collapse, only Jared Goff has been a more dangerous quarterback than Mayfield has been in Tampa. Since the start of the 2023 season, only Goff has thrown more touchdowns than Mayfield — 101 to Mayfield’s 95.

Matt Stafford (90), Saint Lamar Jackson (86) and Josh Allen (82) round out the top five.

But hen you hear about great quarterbacks, national types (influenced by fantasy football?) fall over themselves when talking about Jackson, who has exactly one more playoff win in his career than Mayfield.

And you hear national media types wax about Stafford and Allen. But Mayfield? You hear much more scoffing and doubt than praise. Strange.

So, yeah, just looking at touchdown production, Joe understands why Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles are staunch defenders of Mayfield.

Yeah, Joe, that Dolphins game was tough to watch. Mayfield took the Bucs 70 yards on our first drive and hit Godwin with a 5 yard TD pass to give us a 7-0 lead. Then we kicked off. Miami threw a 63 yard touchdown pass to tie the game up in less than a minute. That encapsulated our defense in the 2025 season. Then we had a field goal blocked before half. That encapsulated our special teams in the 2025 season. Then Mayfield got hit in the back in a second and a half and fumbled. That encapsulated our 2025 OLine. At least we stopped their run game. Since we let Ewers throw 2 TD passes. Oops. They ran for 150 yards on 30 carries. At least we were able to muster 55 yards on the ground. Dadgummit, Joe. Mayfield sucks!

  2. Kenton Smith Says:

I do remember him throwing a pick which Miami quickly turned into another 75 yard TD drive. Mayfield totally sucks.

  3. Dacake Says:

Most interceptions in the last 3 seasons

    Geno Smith 41
    Baker Mayfield 37
    Tua Tagovailoa 36

  4. Dacake Says:

Baker also has the most fumbles in the last 3 years.

  5. Kenton Smith Says:

Dacake. Most picks last 3 seasons. Mahommes had 36 also. Allen had 34. Purdy had 33- in 40 games compared to 51 games for Baker. Lawrence had 33 picks but played 42 games. In fact, Baker had one of the lower pick rates per games played and passes thrown. And since you’re so smart Dacake, why don’t you tell us how many of those fumbles were turnovers. You sir, shouldn’t be wasting your time commenting on something that’s so obviously over your head.

  6. Dacake Says:

    Facts don’t lie

    Most Total Fumbles (2023–2025 Seasons)
    Baker Mayfield: 32
    Lamar Jackson: 25
    Jalen Hurts: 23

  7. Dacake Says:

Baker is too reckless with the ball. Hard to win when you don’t have the ball.

  8. Kenton Smith Says:

Dacake. You never answered the question. How many of those fumbles were turnovers?

  9. Dacake Says:

Who cares. When you fumble the ball you waste a down. Clearly you never played ball.

  10. Kenton Smith Says:

Dacake. I played alot of ball. Against alot of great players. Clearly, you don’t know how to analyze a ball player or a team. And you still haven’t answered the question.

  11. Dacake Says:

I will leave you with this:

    Lombardi’s Philosophy on Fumbles
He believed that if his team held the ball and moved the chains methodically, the opponent’s offense wouldn’t have time to score. Fumbles disrupted this control, giving the game away. He was famous for stating: “There is nothing you can do about fumbles except scream.”

  12. Inwoodjeremy Says:

Tristan Wirfs caught one of Baker Mayfield’s 95 touchdown passes. Mike Evans caught 27.

  13. Kenton Smith Says:

Inwoodjeremy. Mayfield has thrown 197 touchdowns in his first 8 years in the league. 170 TD passes if you scrub Evans 27. That 170 is still alot more TD passes than Drew Brees through his first 8 years. Let that sink in.

    Threw

Yes. It was Baker’s fault they could not hold 3rd & 28 and 4th & 14 and lost the Atlanta game.

Had Baker played better Defense on those two plays from the sideline, they make the playoffs and probably win the SB.

    Jesus. God.

  16. Inwoodjeremy Says:

Kenton that’s a lot of TDs. Always liked your positivity. I was getting nervous about Evans hauling in 28% of Baker’s TDs and absent on the roster. Makes me feel a little better.

  17. Ugo Says:

Joe, you said” Still, a franchise quarterback finds a way to win just one game instead of losing seven of the Bucs’ final nine”.

    You mean like:
    – Matthew Stafford and his 8 game losing streak in 2010
    – Troy Aikman and his 11 game losing streak
    – Caleb Williams (8 games)
    – Trevor Lawrence (7 games)
    – Derek Carr
    – Warren Moon

None of these guys are franchise QBs, right? Quarterbacks, even franchise ones, have slumps in their careers. As an example, Mahomes lost 6 of the last 10 games he started in 2025, before his injury but I guess he isn’t a franchise qb then since he didn’t figure out a way to win 1 more

TLDR: your argument is flawed and not indicative of reality

  18. Final Straw Says:

Lee thinks repeating the same incorrect assessment over and over makes it true.

He does this about so many things. He should be careful of this pattern.

Mayfield never collapsed in 2025. His supporting elements failed over and over again, but his play remained largely consistent.

Competent all-22 analysis showed this. Ronde Barber and the (very) few other competent analysts who follow TB closely pointed this out.
