Todd McShay Again Mocks Akheem Mesidor To The Bucs

April 16th, 2026

So the high-profile mock draftniks benefit from producing multiple mock drafts. Why? Because each mock prompts feedback from NFL coaches and executives that have the mocker in their contacts.

ESPN NFL insider Peter Schrager, formerly of NFL Network, laid out that reality this week on The Pat McAfee Show. Longtime draft guru Todd McShay has implied that in recent interviews, as well.

Now working for TheRinger.com after years at BSPN TV, McShay has been one of the most accurate mockers on the market over the past five years. (Funny, he was miserable at BSPN.)

So Joe has been paying attention to McShay, and for his second consecutive mock draft, which dropped yesterday, McShay has the Bucs picking University of Miami edge rusher Akheem Mesidor at No. 15 overall.

Improving the pass rush is an absolute must for Todd Bowles’ defense. Mesidor brings exactly what they’re missing—he’s a polished, productive pass rusher with a deep arsenal of moves, change-of-direction quickness, violent hands, and a relentless motor. There are some age and durability concerns (he’ll be a 25-year-old rookie and has dealt with various injuries), but this is a team focused on the present, not a second contract. And from what I’ve heard, most teams view his durability risk as moderate.

Production-wise, he checks out. He had 12.5 sacks, a 21.3 percent pass rush win rate (just behind Bain and Bailey in this class), and four forced fumbles in his final college season. That’s the type of impact the Bucs need off the edge.

Interestingly, McShay, has fellow Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain going to the Ravens at No. 14. Keep in mind the Ravens last year drafted edge rusher Mike Greene late in Round 2, a guy some Bucs fans were talking about drafting in Round 1. Greene helped lead Baltimore to a miserable 30-sack season total.

The Joe typing here expects the Bucs to draft an edge rusher in Round 1, barring a fruitful trade down opportunity.

Simply stated, Tampa Bay is desperate for a talent upgrade at the position, or should be.

Seeing is believing! I’ll be happy with anyone who can make an immediate impact preferably on the D side of the ball.

  2. 813bucboi Says:

i like AM, but i dont see much difference between him and Mason Thomas…

trade down, collect an extra pick, grab IOL early!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  3. JimBobBuc Says:

I’ve seen Mesidor and Faulk mocked to the Bucs. Fauk seems more like a 4-3 defensive end that’s a run stopper. I’d rather take Mesidor, but Licht/Bowles will love Faulk’s character.

  4. Stpetematt Says:

I think Faulk is the reason the Bucs want to trade down, not McDonald.

  5. Usfbucs Says:

I was thinking the same as I was reading about Faulk, he matches what Licht and Bowles have said they want in a player.

  6. Steven007 Says:

Faulk didn’t have great production his last year. But he had decent production the year prior. Best case scenario, he kind of reminds me of Richard Seymour. I’m not in love with the guy at 15 to be honest.

  7. Lakeland Says:

I don’t see much of a dropoff with these Edge Rushers

I don’t think any of them stand out like Myles Garrett coming out of college
I believe they all are similar, talent wise after Bailey, and Bain

Mesidor, Parker, Lawrence, Thomas, Faulk, l would take anyone of them
But not in the 1st round

  8. Lakeland Says:

    Also Young and Howell

  9. Usfbucs Says:

Yeah I would love to see a trade back. I don’t know that any of them are going to be great in the NFL.

  10. Oxycondomns Says:

let us know what mcshay says about what he thinks about your boy saddiq and his short arms

  11. Lakeland Says:

We know Yaya will start 17 games for us

The rookie will have to compete with Muhammad, Walker,
If we’re going to spend the 15th pick on a rookie Edge Rusher
He need to start right away, but Muhammad is coming of a 11 sack season
Muhammad could be starting with Yaya, if last season wasn’t a fluke

  12. Oxycondomns Says:

actually muhammed never starts because of his bad run defense

  13. Lakeland Says:

Muhammad didn’t start last season in Detroit

But he will be in the game on most passing situations
That will cause to draft a part time player with the 15th pick

  14. Stpetematt Says:

Faulk’s production in sacks radically dropped because he was moved to DT and used as a space eater last year.

His own team hurt his production.

  15. Oxycondomns Says:

i feel like they are drafting mesidor also. glazers want a pass rush at a discount. lot cheaper than crosby or henderson

  16. Lakeland Says:

The reason Muhammad didn’t start for Detroit
They thought he was too small for a DE
But he will be an OLB for us, and he’s the perfect size for the position

  17. Football 1 Says:

I would rather see them take a LB Corner DT. The Bucs have many attempts at drafting an Olb. The only one that proved incredible was L Selmon. Yes 1976. With that history you sure hate to see them waste a number 1 on another attempt. I would even rather see them take an offensive player over an OLB.
Their are so many holes on defense that can’t get the first round wrong. Actually they can’t afford to get any round wrong

  18. Lakeland Says:

I would draft Mesidor, Parker, Howell, Thomas, Lawrence, Faulk, Young

If l could trade down in the 1st

  19. jcscycles Says:

This is a safe pick. He will produce right away.

And keep the griping down here!

  20. Lefty R Says:

Cardinals Considered Strong Candidate To Trade Down

Well, here’s the opportunity for the Bucs to do something

I know who I would want!!!!

  21. Scotty Mack Says:

I seem to recall at least one Joe here saying that edge rushers usually do little to nothing as rookies.

According to a popular Siriusxm nfl radio host, rookie edge rushers seldom make an impact because they have one, maybe two moves that worked well in college but the pros on the offensive line in the NFL have seen whatever those moves are hundreds of times and know how to counter them. They also rarely enter the league at the weight and strength they need to go up against the truly big boys they will be facing who are much stronger and faster than the linemen in college.

I’m just worried that the Bucs pass on a sure thing at another position for what is almost always a gamble at edge rusher – especially at pick #15.

  22. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

Not going to be anyone worth trading up to get at 15.
Fifteen is the 3rd pick in the second round, talent wise.
The trade value score card says the Bucs could move
into the top ten if 15 is paired with the second rounder.
I’d rather move up rather than take another 2nd round defensive
    bust.
Get a guard in the second, or trade up.

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

To be honest, it Mesidor is there? I would take him. Sure, he is 25. But I’m 100% certain he is a plug in player at the ready. My heart though tells me, We will pass on him. Watch and see. Kids got a motor and instincts you cannot teach.

  24. Tampa2ATL Says:

Opinions are all over the map – as is my own opinion.

-> Moderate Injury Risk” designation in this piece (others too) doesn’t generate warm fuzzy safe vibes.
-> Big question for us here is was recent 2025 breakout season due to 1) being old enough to rent a car playing 19 YO’s as grown arse man with [more] experience, size, + [enough] talent to play CFP? Can we expect the same success against other real grown arse men who have more experience/size and equal (+) talent. What about the fact that opposing teams gameplanned more for Reuben Bain and shifted resources accordingly? At minimum, having another real threat on other side of D-line makes life easier for both.
    – Does Mesidor fit our defensive scheme? Seems almost all success comes from 3point stance. Not saying that means much [to me] – more of a question for y’all and/or 1BP braintrust.

    Advantages:
-> Clearly well coached by Jason Taylor, so minimal need to “develop”
Mesidor since he is already as developed as much as he will ever be. 👈🏼 Yes, double meaning implied.
-> Established production every year (except 2023; limited to 3 games cuz injury). Position versatility is nice. Miami lacked depth so had Mesidor bulk up to play majority of snaps interior DT in 2024. New DC came in 2025, had Mesidor slim back down to play edge again majority of snaps. In fact, one could argue that 2024’s production 34 total tackles 9 TFL & 5.5 sacks could have been more if not for taking one for the team. Can’t cover – which I count as a blessing for Tampa as less likely coaches ask him too. Need sacks + TFL. Let the LB’/secondary cover.
-> plays both pass and run well.

Glad my job is not at risk trying to decide whether Akheem Mesidor will have more meaningful impact than Kayden McDonald, Keldric Faulk (who is 5 years younger than Mesidor!), Iaone, Jacob Rodriguez, etc.

  25. Smashsquatch Says:

    No thank you. Next….

  26. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Please NO!

  27. BucsfaninOregon Says:

What if Bain drops to #15? That’s my pick.

  28. C-spann4 Says:

Faulk is a no if I had a choice. He doesnt seem to be explosive at all. Mesidor at least has production and Thomas is explosive. I would also be ok with a DT at 15. This team needs to invest in defense more then anything.

  29. Bosch Says:

    Please!!! No more damaged goods!

  30. Nick jannette Says:

    BAIN!!!!!

  31. Scott Says:

so many edge rushers to choose from… I just hope they don’t pick the wrong one

  32. Jwg813 Says:

    Please pick a miami guy.

  33. Stpetematt Says:

I’d trade up to the cards pick to get Styles, nobody else….

  34. Bojim Says:

I fi could get him later by trading. If Styles is close, I would trade up. Trade down and get edge and an extra pick.

  35. Fanofdabucs Says:

    They aren’t trading up..no chance.

They 100% arent draft Faulk..the guy is unproductive and wouldn’t be anymore than a Logan Hall replacement.

The will get an edge, just think it’ll be in round 2 or 3.

I think they shock some and draft OL or J Rodriguez either at 15 or after a trade down.

  36. 3.28.Evans Says:

This Joe typing knows that Todd Bowles is legendary at developing young pass rushers.

    Oh, wait.

  37. David Says:

    Top priority!! DO IT!!
    ILB is also crucial.

If they take a TE in the first round, I will be shocked and will boycott every single game this year.

  38. Simeon4HOF Says:

Sure should be. How do you need a pash rusher and not take one in Rd 1.
Apart from a trade down. Also went CB Rds 2 and 3 last year.
Expect JL to take the TE. Then what get a ILB; still no improved pass rush.

  39. David Says:

    Bain
    Reese
    Bailey
    Mesidor

One of them will be there, and every one of them are worthy of the first round pick.
Personally, I think Bain is going to be an absolute stud right out of the gate. The rest of them are like all edge rushers, you just never know. You think they’re all gonna be great but I think Bain is the only one who is 100%.

  40. Simeon4HOF Says:

Bain or Mesidor would be a steal

  41. Simeon4HOF Says:

And Im an FSU fan lol

  42. Simeon4HOF Says:

If we only had 1 or 2 holes on defense the TE wouldnt be nearly as bad an idea

  43. Destinjohnny Says:

No way will Jason take a high ranked player at a position of need

    It’s not him

  44. Tony Says:

We’ll take either a punter or kicker.

  45. Fred McNeil Says:

It seems to me that Messidor was the consensus pick to the BUCS for a good while. lately, pundits have been more scatter shot. I don’t know it they’re just stirring things up to give people a reason to read their drivel. I must admit that a few years ago reading some talking head’s third or forth take got boring because only two or three picks would ever have changed. Also, back years ago almost every prognosticator nearly mirrored all the other’s guessers, I mean seers. It’s almost like they were all in cahoots or something.
Anyway, I was a little down on Messidor before because of his age. Now the more I think about it the more I like the idea. We couldn’t develop a case of the measles, never mind a pass rusher. I’m not gonna pound the table for the table for him either.

  46. gotbbucs Says:

30 years old after his rookie deal. Nope.
At his age, he should have been putting guys over his knee and spanking them. He’s older than a 3rd of the players in the NFL.

    ———

So lets see… you get a guy who is ready to play in the NFL pretty much on day one, at one of the most expensive positions, and you’re locking up all his prime years on a rookie deal.

    Yeah, that sounds awful. LOL!

  48. sethery Says:

please trade up and take howell instead.

  49. Hopein1hand… Says:

Mesidor has been my guy and still is but Dylan Thieneman is growing on me as I film cram. Rather than Howell though after full review of undersized pash rush weapons I’m settled on Romello Height. He can be had without a trade back after taking a 3 down Miami edge in the first. He doesn’t have enough sand in his pants to be a force in the run but he is ok than folks are saying with room to grow. He covers better than all but the top safeties in this draft but get home fast and hard as a blitzer so he is a double edged weapon on pass downs. His 79.38 inch wing span, point guard’s feet and pop make him a versatile weapon that will be there on day 2 without needing to trade-up hopefully..

Howell or R Mason Thomas are both more than welcome potential additions but Height fits my vision of adding pterosaurs to the middle of Bowles’ slutty zones. Licht said “there are speed guys and there are power guys.” I hope he said that to hint at the Bucs adding one of each from the crop in this draft. Being able draft power rusher, ILB then speed rusher with sacrificing draft capital looks very doable. There are enticing options at all three spots where the Bucs first 3 picks sit. Derrick Moore is another guy whose power, wingspan and get-off translate great to the NFL who can be had day 3. There are too many edge talents not to take two early.

  50. Hopein1hand… Says:

    I meant day 2 for Derrick Moore. 6’4” 260 33 3/8” arms with an 81 1/4” wingspan/ 4.48 40/ 1.52 10 yard split/ 4.31 short shuttle/ 6.71 3 cone/ 21 career sacks and 24 TFLs i(10 and 10.5 of each in 2025)/ 3 career FFs and 3 FR/ only 62 tackles in 4 seasons of action is concerning though.

He has the get off, durability, length and times of a prototypical OLB. He has the maturity and production too. If he ended-up going at the end of round 1 I would be surprised. Michigan defenders are like IOWA OL. They are high floor, NFL ready for years.

  51. Hopein1hand… Says:

    *would not be surprised

  52. BucU Says:

Licht and co. better pick the right players in this draft whoever they might be. No room for error. Their careers depend on it.

  53. Becky Says:

Styles, Howell, and Faulk, are not really NFL ready and I don’t believe they will be immediate help. Sounds like Licht expects big things out of Muhammed on pass defense so why not go after CJ Allen who is excellent at run defense and who is NFL ready and who doesn’t make mistakes, instead of a 25 year old pass rusher with chronic foot injuries who will likely have a short career.

  54. thepunch Says:

I gotta say I really hope in a trade back we take Malaki Lawerance from UCF.. He just seems like a guy who could take off leaps and bounds. If he were an Ohio st. Prospect he’d already be talked about in the top 20 no doubt.

  55. Fanofdabucs Says:

    Becky…

With all due respect, WTF are you talking about?

So you think CJ Allen is more NFL ready than Styles???

    Horrendous take.

Styles is comparable to Fred Warner and will be a day 1 plug and play Lber. Cj Allen has limitations in his game and isnt nearly the player Styles is.

  56. Becky Says:

I have watched alot of film and in my opinion CJ is more ready to walk on a field in the NFL and be immediate help. You are free to think whatever you want. They excel, at different things. Taking everything into consideration. Maturity, playing time in college, team responsibility, leadership skills, combined with talent matter in the NFL and I think CJ is more all around ready right now. I at no time said CJ was better than Styles

  57. Delson Says:

Idk on the fence with mesidor

  58. Capt ahab Says:

Gotbbucs, are you really concerned about a 25 year old rookie for a first round draft pick? Are you one of those guys ready to trade two first rounders for a 28-29 year old with a blown knee?
