Preseason, Training Camp Just Got A Lot More Fun After Bucs Draft Receiver Ted Hurst In Round 3

April 24th, 2026

Joe’s not quite sure what the Bucs were thinking drafting Georgia State wide receiver Ted Hurst in Round 3 tonight, but a big explosive weapon is always a fun addition.

Hurst is a beast of an athlete at 6-4, 206 pounds with 4.42 speed in the 40 yard dash and a 36 1/2-inch vertical leap. That’s a faster, leaner version of Mike Evans as a rookie. Hurst’s arms, however, are shorter than those of Evans.

Playing in the Sun Belt Conference, Hurst caught 127 balls over the past two seasons for 1,965 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The various draft gurus say Hurst needs work on his route running but his explosiveness and talent are undeniable.

The good news is the Bucs don’t need Hurst to do much in 2026. The bad news, if there is any, is the addition of Hurst won’t really fill any of the Bucs’ holes.

Regardless, Joe loves how Hurst will raise the competition level in training camp and make preseason games more exciting. There’s nothing quite like a big, hungry rookie receiver to jack up the intensity of practice.

    Another Licht Loser

    Rd 1: undersized DE TREX
Rd 2: Broken player w/ injury concerns. Reach pick
    Rd 3: Small college player

    Dude is so predictable.

Looks like another garbage draft class from Jason and Todd.

  2. firethecannons Says:

Here is what I found out: “Ted Hurst is a prolific receiver from Georgia State who concluded his 2025 season with 71 receptions for 1,004 yards and six touchdowns. He earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2025 and was named to the prestigious College Freaks List for his exceptional athleticism. Over his career, which included time at Valdosta State, he accumulated nearly 2,000 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns for the Panthers, setting a school record for receiving touchdowns in a single season in 2024 with nine. Scouts value his massive catch radius, refined route running, and the speed that allows him to create vertical separation as a primary offensive threat.”

  3. Rocky Says:

His team finished 1-11. They knew the ball was coming his way and no one could stop him. This was a great pick

  4. Scott Says:

I think they were able to go BPA after getting another pick. WRs are expensive and needed. Licht seems to usually get one every year.

  5. Ufc Says:

The first four rds at least 3 have to be starters imo. Just a head scratching move again.

  6. Lakeland Says:

It was hard to pass on Ted Hurst

Jason Licht knows Chris Godwin won’t be here for long
And we need a taller WR also,

It was another great draft pick by Jason Licht

  7. Erik with UniqueModernArt.com Says:

We got our new starting X Receiver and WR1 by default (since no other WR on our roster is suited for the role after Evans left).

  8. Lefty R Says:

No one took a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round … that boggles the mind

And I have liked the draft by the Bucs so far….I have no issues!!

  9. Steven007 Says:

Whatevs, which team do you follow? I mean clearly it’s not this one. Though nice of you to comment from time to time. You are woefully unqualified to make any of those determinations on the players we’ve picked yet. Me too. That’s why I don’t make them. Maybe let’s wait and see what happens?

  10. firethecannons Says:

and his RAS is 9.9 so Whatevs go away you full of sht

  11. #99 The Big Fella Says:

    Whatevs
Typical troll stfu you sound like a idiot

  12. Rusty Shackleford Says:

Never forget that Mark Carrier was a pick from Nicholls State.

  13. Lakeland Says:

Jason Licht is handling his business
    More power to him

He’s done an excellent job this off-season

  14. FrontFour Says:

Defense wins championships Jason. So many holes on D and we use a premium pick on a WR. WTH.

  15. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Draft a guard like Dunker or CB Julian Neal? Either would help this team more than Hurst. We must be trading one of our WR ( Godwin?)

  16. DJR589 Says:

If there’s one thing I have absolute confidence in with Licht, it’s that the man knows how to draft receivers. He may not know how how to draft kickers, but he sure as hell knows how to pick receivers!

  17. Steven007 Says:

Front four, we’ve already got at least four to five new players on defense this year. Including some depth. But on the other hand, you have to score points too? I think so. Let me check on that….

  18. Hopes on 2027 Says:

    he looks FAST

  19. adam from ny Says:

not feeling our day 2 picks…

    trotter…meh…

could be a big mistake, leaving the other good ones on the board and going trotter…

also i think it was a mistake not to move into the late 30’s and grab jrod…

jrod could have been had with a small bump up into the late 30’s…

round 3 – not grabbing pregnon out of oregon seems like a big blemish on licht – the ol guru……how could they go hurst over pregnon…

hopefully they know better than me…

also it looks like godwin has a ticket out of town after this season – just like mike

  20. tregrimmd Says:

Steal. This guy’s a legit freak athlete.

  21. Ash Says:

Decent draft I like it guy gives us what we lost when Mike left.

  22. Capt.Tim Says:

As a player, you can’t argue with Hurst. He is a great addition to our WR room, which is in transition.
But this team has gigantic holes- that make it impossible for this team to win.
And Hurst doesn’t fix any of those issues.
We desperately need linebackers. We need a DT.
We really don’t have a single CB.
Our Center Sucked badly last year. Our guards sit the season on Ir.
Bredeson is a weak link when Healthy.

We have sections of this team that don’t have a single NFL caliber player.
And, like last year, we are ignoring our desperate needs.

  23. Sal Volatile Says:

I like the strategy . This WR pick screams make Baker happy. But will they extend him ? They’re crazy if they don’t. I suspect they go CB DL OL special teams tomorrow

  24. pink Says:

This isn’t surprising. McMillan, Godwin and Egbuka are all fine recievers but they’re not the big, tall, fast in a straight line type, like Evans. It’s not just about having WRs it’s about what kind

  25. JimBobBuc Says:

Seems like a Zac Robinson pick. A BPA pick for sure. A great player who is going into a talented and experienced receiving room and won’t get many targets this coming year. Licht should have picked a BPA defender who will get snaps this year.

  26. DailyRich Says:

This is your annual reminder that it actually takes another team willing to make the trade for us to move up. Really wanting us to doesn’t magically make it happen.

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

For those claiming we are not getting enough Defense, here’s what we added before the draft.

    Signed CB Kemon Hall
    Signed CB Chase Lucas
    Signed DL Haggai Ndubuisi
    Signed DL Rakeem Nunez-Roches
    Signed LB Christian Rozeboom
    Signed DL A’Shawn Robinson
    Signed S Miles Killebrew
    Signed LB Alex Anzalone
    Signed OLB Al-Quadin Muhammad

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

I can’t judge the Trotter pick, but Legacy picks often workout well. I believe his pop will be here coaching him up. This could be a home run in a couple years. Bain is a monster mean a-S-s m-f-r. I love this pick. I like this freak receiver pick. There are really good receivers to learn from here. My favorite receiver its Tez. Bake has to stay healthy though and I think these receivers will all ball out. We need a RB and I hope this FA helps. Bucky needs to get his head right and hopefully hes working hard right now. We also need a QB. I would have traded down in round 2 and drafted Carson Beck. I think he’s got some stones and will be good. He’d be great behind Baker and in a couple years give him the reigns. But that’s just me though. LB’s are meh, yeah gotta have him, but great QB’s with the right stuff don’t come around often.

  29. Captahab Says:

Joe, you have another article about Hurst that says he has 4.51 speed, which is it?

  30. BigZ Says:

Most of those D additions are ST, you know that? Josh Hayes is our 4th corner. Thats right.

  31. BUC IT Says:

I like the upside of the pick… I kinda view this draft as a win simply because of Bain anyways

We just lost a HOF at receiver. And this could be Godwin’s last year. We might not need him now, but we’ve also seen injuries happen. In 2 years he could be our top guy. I like the pick LFG
