Not Liking A’Shawn Robinson
April 15th, 2026The PFF tribe is on life support. But before the ship crashed, the tribe was able to get a shot out (not shoutout) at a new Bucs defender.
Zoltán Buday, who Joe isn’t sure works there after Cris Collinsworth picked up the discarded website off the sidewalk and then proceeded to gut the staff in an effort to keep the lights on, has a like/dislike for each team’s free agency moves.
Buday liked the Bucs picking up Alex Anzalone. But Buday did not like the Bucs picking up defensive tackle D’Shawn Robinson.
Least Favorite Move: DI A’Shawn Robinson
Robinson has been past his prime for a couple of seasons, and a Panthers front office that needed all the help it could get on defense released him. Although his 2025 was better than his previous two seasons, Robinson still ranked [low] among interior defenders. At this stage of his career, he is probably a situational role player. Yet, his contract suggests the Buccaneers think otherwise.
Well, God forbid Team Glazer trusts a guy who has already demonstrated he can build a Super Bowl-winning roster as opposed to a dude in the unemployment line who trafficked in dumbarse grades.
The outfit that bought the PFF tribe thought so much of their dumbarse grades (just like NFL suits) that they told Collinsworth, “Please, take the website and the dumbarse grades off our hands — for free!”
Is Joe expecting Robinson to be the next Vita Vea? No, but Robinson was brought in for a purpose. Even Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had to acknowledge the Bucs defense last year was Charmin soft.
You can say a lot of things about Robinson, but “soft” is not one of them.

A’Shawn Robinson is exactly what we need on our defensive front
Last season, teams pushed us around on the defensive front
They couldn’t keep blockers off our Inside Linebackers
I don’t understand the Carolina Panthers, not because of letting A’Shawn walk
They gave away Brian Burns for pennies on the dollar
The Giants gave them a 2nd and 5th for Burns, when Burns was 25 years old.
One of the top edge rushers in the NFL
Then they give Jalean Phillips a 4 year $120 million contract

Lakeland, the Philips contract is probably the biggest overspend in the entire free agency period. Yaya, diabi has better Rush stats than him. Not our problem. I like the player, but he’s always hurt and he’s never produced at a high level when healthy. As you state, Robinson is exactly what we were looking for. Big, tough guy in the middle. Quite a load with Vita next to him. Should theoretically free up the pass rush. Much better than last season.

As to the topic, he’s healthy depth. I’ll take it.
