Hear ye, hear ye! The NFL draft is finally here!
After months of guessing, gabbing and grousing about who picks whom and where, Round 1 is upon us. Soon we will find out who the Bucs pick — when we return to Pittsburgh right after these messages.
Or the Bucs could trade back. Some well-plugged-in reporters get that vibe. Joe feels like that’s the Bucs’ preferred option.

I like the G and DT, even a CB, could learn to live with Sadiq whenever our Edge’s start flattening the QB suppose … but without another Edge our Secondary will continue to get toyed with. Wouldn’t be so bad to see Bucs trade back into first to get Rodriguez tho

It’s SADiQ Time!!
Sadiq would be a home run for Tampa. He’s got WR speed in a TE body and gives Baker a legit mismatch over the middle, something this offense is missing.
Pair him with Otton and now you’ve got a modern 2-TE attack that stresses defenses everywhere. He’s not a mauler blocker, but his explosiveness is exactly what this offense needs to evolve.

This whole “tanking” theory that some people have is interesting. Do some you really think that players, that have an extremely limited shelf life, think that if an organization instructs a coach to “tank” for a better draft pick are ok with it? The tape never lies.
By the way draft pick home runs, even in the first round, are rare.

Am I missing something with BAIN? I know there were some reports that said he didn’t seem quick enough but every time I saw him play, he had all the speed he needed around the edge.

So for those not concerned about his arms. Here is a quote from a yahoo sports article, “In the last 20 years, no player at or below Bain’s measurement has been selected in the first round or had a season with double-digit sacks. And of the players who finished top 10 in the NFL in sacks last season, all had recorded arm lengths of at least 32 inches.”

Simply watch the tape. This kid is relentless in the pass rush. Something the Bucs have sorely lacked. He is damn good against the run as well.

It’s not so much development, it’s more about who they’ve drafted in the past and didn’t draft in the past.
This kid has 36 starts. 33.5 TFL. 20.5 sacks. 4 FF. 83 QB pressures. The most in CFB history since they’ve kept track of that stat.
Oh… And he’s awesome against the run as well

I get it. It’s a concern, but I saw him play a lot and he is relentless and powerful and quick. And he has an attitude. I just don’t think it’s going to be an issue at all. Absolutely love the pick.

If he has all this motor why didn’t he lead the ACC in sacks? He didn’t even lead his own team in sacks last season. He was 18th in college football in his sack total, 18th in tackles for a loss, only 1 FF which puts him outside the top 50.
Statistically he was good, not great in college and his measurables make him an extreme exception if he is successful. I hope for the sake of the Bucs he defies all the odds and turns into a statistical unicorn.

Trying to talk reasonable to you, but damn man, how about some optimism. Give it a rest. Nothing worse than people complaining on the draft day when no one really knows for sure how these kids are going to play out until about three years from now.

Wow, Lawrence went. I really really liked him, wondered if he’d sneak into the 1st, but didn’t think he’d go at 23. I’m very happy with Bain… but had he been gone, I’d have been very happy to trade back a bit and get Lawrence and an extra pick.

I think Mesidor will be the better player in 2026 – he’s just as pro-ready as it gets. But I do think Bain has the higher ceiling, and still could have a nice rookie year – but also wouldn’t shock me if he more of a typical rookie EDGE player who doesn’t do a ton as he learns the NFL.
But I think Bain is the right part, very difficult to pass on him.

I’ve said another threads, though. I like mesidor. I think a lot of his production had to do with having Bain on the other side. Bain is clearly the more talented player with the higher ceiling. Would make sense that a guy getting less attention and still talented would get some production.

@Southern BucLife – I’m not going to judge the guy, lots of people do dumb things when they are young, and we don’t really know the details of the accident from what I have seen. I am going to guess given JL’s history that the Bucs investigated and found that enough to think this kind of behavior is behind him

Mesidor had the louder stat year (63 tackles, 17.5 TFL, 12.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles), so as a pure pass rusher he was a problem.
But Tampa T-Rex Bain is the more complete and disruptive player overall 54 tackles, 15.5 TFL, 9.5 sacks, plus elite pressure numbers and he was winning awards for a reason.
Its Bain Jr. all day. He fits what we need a high-motor, every-down defender who can stop the run AND consistently affect the QB, not just a situational sack guy.

He didn’t murder anyone. It was just an accident. He may have been speeding
but he wasn’t intoxicated. Even the victim’s family said it was just a tragic accident and they don’t blame him.
