Billy Schrauth Joins The Bucs’ Offensive Line In Round 5
April 25th, 2026Five years ago Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht turned to Notre Dame for offensive line depth.
That worked out rather well, as Robert Hainsey was a very late pick in Round 3 and became a starter on a good playoff team.
Today, Licht snagged guard Billy Schrauth in Round 5, a 6-5, 310 pounds guard from the Fighting Irish. He had a season-ending knee injury [MCL] last season. Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager loves captains from big programs, and Schrauth checks that box.
Well-rounded Schrauth doesn’t appear to have any experience at center. Later, the Bucs are likely to say they think he has that potential.
The Bucs picking an offensive lineman was no surprise. Licht has never gone back-to-back draft without selecting one, and the Bucs didn’t pick one last season.
The pick used here was the Bucs’ second fifth-rounder of the day, the pick secured with a fourth-round trade (down) with the Packers.

This dude projects as a starting caliber guard. This draft is going great.

One of the few things Licht usually does well in the draft.
We needed depth and players from Notre Dame are usually decent.
Wish Licht was smart enough to draft Malachi Fields though.
Instead he chose a nobody from a clown college.
3-14 in 2026. The Glazers love the culture!!!!!

Can he sit on a stool made out of 3 toothpicks and a dime like Hainsey? Hainsey has no a$$.

Ole Steve nailed it in the last couple of podcasts saying Licht couldn’t go this year without a line man! Way to call the pick and hopefully you put some money on it somewhere and are getting a great return!!

Great draft by Tampa.. all players will be playing this season… excellent job!
April 25th, 2026 at 3:11 pm
If Licht picks an offensive lineman, they’re going to be really good.

April 25th, 2026 at 3:20 pm
He’s big!! Hopefully he’s rattlesnake mean too!! That wouldn’t hurt! That healing MCL won’t help him break into the starting lineup this season.
April 25th, 2026 at 3:23 pm
Don’t lose my number!
April 25th, 2026 at 3:24 pm

This guy doesn’t sound like any great shakes from what I can see. I quick read on the league site is all I’ve done, but the guy seems injury prone. I like the sound of the DT guy a lot better. I guess we shall see.

He was a big part of a top college run game. Both RBs got drafted in the first round. If Licht drafted a starting caliber lineman in the 5th, that is huge.
April 25th, 2026 at 3:34 pm
Great pick . where was this yesterday Jason???
April 25th, 2026 at 3:38 pm
If anyone knows offensive lineman it’s Licht and whoever he picks I trust
April 25th, 2026 at 3:46 pm
I like his height and weight this was a good pick

Lampchop Jason has drafted 13 WRs 9 of those are good to great. Staters on any other team. 1 future hall of famer another with multiple pro bowls and 2 others that have produced at a high level. Not many GMs can do that. And don’t get me started on all the studs he’s drafted on the oline. Another future hall of famer and the best RT and LT in the game. Smith marpet cappa Luke Barton mauch hainsey all of those names are starters and not just on the Bucs. Don’t forget some of the FA he’s plucked too. Jason has hit in a lot of DBs as well. Biggest weakness has bin edge rushers. Jason has done a fantastic job thru the years and keeps getting better

I believe Hainsey is still a center on a playoff team.
