Todd Bowles Contrasts Logan Hall & A’Shawn Robinson

March 30th, 2026

New Bucs defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson.

Did the Bucs upgrade at defensive tackle this offseason?

Gone is Logan Hall to the suffocating defense of the Houston Texans on a two-year, $14 million contract. In his place is veteran mauler A’Shawn Robinson on a one-year, $10 million deal.

Bucs head coach/defensive coordinator Todd Bowles addressed the swap during a semi-private chat with Joe before the start of the NFC Coaches Breakfast this morning in Phoenix.

“I think Logan is a little more athletic than A’Shawn; A’Shawn brings a lot more toughness and stoutness and sturdiness,” Bowles said.

Interesting assessment from Bowles considering Hall, the Bucs’ first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, spoke out recently and said in Tampa he was asked to “stand and bang, fight the good fight” but looks forward to doing more pass rushing in Houston.

So it seems Robinson is much better suited to do what the Bucs asked of Hall last season.

Joe likes the toughness upgrade with Robinson. The Bucs need more angry workers to prevent a repeat of whatever happened on defense in the final weeks of last season.

Probably the answer was in between. When the Bucs realized that Logan Hall had no special ability to disrupt the line of scrimmage, they asked him to stand and bang the good fight.

So, yes Robinson is better suited for the simple stand and hold the line of scrimmage.

    Todd Bowels is a buffoon!

  3. bakerfan Says:

Nice reporting Joe…. thanks for the articles. But Bowles will be the perfect definition of insanity if he keeps trying to do the same thing over and over and it fails each game over and over. Hopefully Bowles can change.

    Contrast
    Liam Coen & Todd Bowels

  5. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Does Todd Bowles simply run the wrong defense for his own players and for whom we are playing against?

  6. Fanofdabucs Says:

Another example of JL drafting a solid defensive player then handing him over to Bowles to put in a position that doesn’t cater to his strengths.

Hall will be a good player for Ryan’s defense in Houston. Wait for it..

  7. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Hall is not seeing the field over Hunter & Anderson Jr, and he’ll probably be asked to 2-gap there as well lol

  8. SteveK Says:

Hall will play 3-technique and rush the passer in Houston. The Texans have a legit defense. We do not.

  9. 813bucboi Says:

imo, Hall was a decent/good player but unfortunately he was playing out of position and in a system with zero flexibility

question is, will morrison and Zyon be better or bored in 2026

    GO BUCS!!!!

Great description. A lot tougher and more sturdy.

He’s a DE who can play DT.

    Defense Rules is right.

We need a DT/NT to rotate with Vea.

If anything happened to Vea, our defense would collapse.

He is and always has been the key to this defense.

But he’s in the final year of his contract. He’s 30.

Kancey is also in the final year of his contract.

DT or NT is the obvious investment in the 1st round.

Hall was drafted to replace Will Gholston at 7i technique. He was just middling. Bucs drafted Elijah Roberts who is alot better.

Stop trying to fit everything into the Bowles-Licht narratives. Hall just could not cut it as a 7i.

  12. Lakeland Says:

You draft defensive players that fit your defense
I don’t know why Hall was drafted in the first place

  13. Been there since the beginning Says:

I don’t really think Hall ever fully tried. The new guy , better by far even though he’s a little older. BALLS over GLAM is what gets you to the Superbowl.. I like all four of our new defenders, I love ’em!!! They have done their and earned their keep. A man’s game..

  14. Lakeland Says:

The Bucs traded the 27th pick to Jacksonville for more picks

But Green Bay drafted Georgia DT Devonte Wyatt with the 28th pick
It didn’t make sense to me then, and it don’t make sense now

Devonte Wyatt is a 6’3 305 lbs DT, can play multiple positions on the front
Hall is a tweener in a 3-4 defense, he’s better suited in a 4-3 defense

  15. Allen Lofton Says:

Apparently Todd Bowles is serious about getting more grity players instead of just I AM THAT MAN players. Calm speeches before football players doesn’t fire up players. Arians wasn’t afraid to let it loose on players and probably threatened players of losing starting positions.

If Todd Bowles did this when warranted we might see better results and performances by the Bucs.

I know when I was a kid my Dad booted me in the ass and I can say it got the message home to me immediately.

  16. Hodad Says:

Is this Jackwagon for real? Bowles drafts a college 4-3 D end, moves him to DT, and now realizes he wasn’t suited to play there? No sh#t Sherlock. You’re making the same mistake with Roberts. Watch Hall get more sacks in Houston than any of our edge rushers next season. Wouldn’t be saying much, but I wouldn’t doubt he does.

  17. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Bowels can’t use the boot because the players don’t believe in him and they would turn around and point fingers at him figuratively while psychologically going into self preservation mode… oh wait
    That was last year!

  18. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

The Glazers must realize by now that they have made a
    Terrible mistake!
    Bandwagon left holding the bag!

  19. Ballwasher61 Says:

Hall could be better in Houston because of better talent around him, make no mistake. If he isn’t then ya know he’s just a guy. He is not the tone setter. If you have those then the others around you look and play better, not hard to figure out.
