“The Bucs’ first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has a new team.”
Former Bucs defensive tackle Logan Hall is a new member of the Texans and met the Houston media late last week.
Joe was intrigued by Hall’s choice of the word “monotony” and him noting he expects more playmaking opportunities with Houston.
Texans coach defensive line coach Rod Wright talked to Hall about how the Texans feel he can be developed more and that he hasn’t reached his peak, Hall said, adding he loves to play inside but, “I think I’m explosive enough and long enough to play outside.”
The Bucs rarely used Hall outside.
“In Tampa, I think you know [I] was kind of stand and bang, fight the good fight,” Hall said. “I think here I’d have more of an opportunity to pin my ears back and go, which is outstanding.”
Longtime Texans reporter and national NFL guy Aaron Wilson thinks Hall was an underrated pickup and fits right in with the Texans’ wrecking crew D-line.
It sounded like Hall is very excited to be home in Houston, where he went to college and where he said his son lives and many other family members.
He’s also fired up to play for DeMeco Ryans, the Texans head coach and defensive guru.
“You’re not going to get stuck into the monotony,” Hall said. “I’m really grateful, coming from the scheme I was in. Similarly, you get to do a lot of things that you might not be allowed to do on other teams. The blitzes and stunts and just being dialed in that way is really rewarding and really fun to play for.”
It will be interesting to see if Hall can surpass his steady but unspectacular play in Tampa. Joe’s not betting on it.

Hall is underrated. He is a solid if not strong starting Dlineman.
Personnel wise, we got worse on Offense and on Defense in free agency.

Bowles still hasn’t figured out that every other coach has his defense figured out. It wouldn’t surprise me for a second if he becomes a much better player under better coaching.

I don’t disagree with him about being stuck in the monotony of a Todd Bowles defense, but at the same time the guy is no Warren Sapp either. He is a second string talent imho, but it will be interesting to see if he can prove me wrong.

Day 1 that is exactly what I got out of it. He is excited to play for a real coach who will allow him to reach his potential. Not the same crap play after play and watch it fail over and over.

Watch them put him on the edge and he becomes a 10 plus sack guy in that defense and Bowles and Licht will have egg on their face.

One thing for sure, it’s apparent that about every player that has left the Bucs thinks Bowles is a clown. Especially ME13, no matter what Licht says.

“monotony.” Funny, that is the exact word I think of every single time I hear the guy speak. He is so freaking boring. I can’t imagine that in a coach, in any sport, let alone football.
Let me get ahead of you – Dungy was too – and hard to listen to. But Bowles is no Father Dungy! So don’t go there!

There’s your answer, and exactly why we went after A’Shawn. Logan didn’t like 2-gapping, and Robinson sounded like he can’t wait to kick some ssa. Wish Hall and his spin move well.

Based on our defensive moves in free agency, we will definitely have more sacks and generate more turnovers as a result. Will that more than make up for the loss of Dean? Almost certainly.

So I haven’t heard an ex player say anything great about the system on defense. It is all different ways to say the same thing… It was overcomplicated and slowed the defense down. They weren’t dictating play. They were reacting and scheming.

I am betting on it. I thought he improved steadily and is just nearing his peak years. They got him dirt cheap.

It’ll be interesting to see what he turns out to be. For the most part, any young talent that has left the Bucs on the front 7 really hasn’t turned into anything. All I can think of that Hall contributed to was Jensen’s early retirement.

I’m obviously interpreting Hall’s comments 180 degrees from what every other commenter above has interpreted them. I think he’s super excited to be playing outside as opposed to inside.
His 1st sentence sounds to me like he’s ‘grateful’ to have played in Bowles’ scheme. The first word in his 2nd sentence … ‘similarly’ … leads me to believe that Logan got to do a lot of things HERE that he wouldn’t have gotten to do on some other defenses, and that he anticipates those same opportunities with Houston. Then when he finishes with ‘blitzes & stunts’ being really rewarding & fun way to play, THAT’s Tampa’s defense (blitzes & stunts).
And Lakeland, I agree with you. ‘He’s excited to play outside (DE) in a 4-3 defense. I been saying it for years, he and Kancey are not 3-4 DEs’. Yup, they’re 2 lightweights trying to fight a heavyweight fight. And that’s why our defense has fallen into a tailspin these last couple years.

It’s not because he’s getting better coaching, or being developed better
It would be because of the 4-3 defense, where he don’t have to be as physical
He’s not physical enough to play inside in a 3-4 defense

The Bucs should fire whoever let this defense get so low that players are lashing out and saying how happy they are to be gone. The Glazers keeping Todd Bowles reminds me of two things, Dirk Koetter keeping Mike Smith as he destroyed our defense and which in the end doomed Koetter and Nero playing violin while Rome slowly burned to the ground. Any other anoligies out there?

No, the owners didn’t fire TB, the players did. The remaining players will play out the string all the while hoping the HC gets fired mid-season (something that’s never happened).

I still think the Bucs defense got better Robinson is a big nasty Defensive lineman I’d take him over Hall our best defensive line player was out all year so I believe things will get better on defense this year they brought in AQM who could also play Halls Position on the Dline with Vita Kancey Yaya an the Rookie Pass Rusher

He had to put on 30 pounds to play the 3/4 DE. I bet he takes off 15 of it to get his speed back. That’s our Todd – scheme over production. Good luck Hall. Good soldier.

With or without an elite EDGE, like many have said here the Bucs can generate more QB pressure in 4-3. That is obvious to most except Todd. Kancey on the outside with Yaya on the other side is sensible. That is why I believe the Bucs will draft a huge DT to pair with VV. If they do this and don’t move to 4-3, it will be one more indictment of Todd. If Jacob Rodriguez miraculously still available in Round 2, the defense will improve exponentially.

Everyone will remember Logan Hall as the guy who torpedoed Ryan Jensen’s career and set the Bucs OL up for failure in Brady’s final year. Good luck and good riddance.

I’m not a Bowles coaching fan right now, but Hall is the typical overdrafted lineman who couldn’t perform. JPP, Shaq, Vita & Suh never made excuses. Hall is now going to TRY OUT for the best Defense in the NFL. He’s an underachiever who is about to get chewed up and spit out. I seriously doubt he even makes the team in Houston. BTW, losing Dean was no loss at all. When he wasn’t getting burned, he was getting hurt. I doubt Dean makes it to week 3 before he has a 10 game injury. I love Mike Evans but he probably blew a hammy stepping off the plane in that garbage west coast city by the famous prison. When all 3 of them fail to produce this season, Jason Licht will look like genius again, after being drug through the mud by almost everyone for letting these guys walk. The Bucs were not going to win with them and at least have a chance without their injuries plaguing the roster again.

Logan hall was overrated when selected. Was the wrong pick at that time not the wrong position but wrong decision. Also idk what he’s upset about he didn’t perform here at DE. He was just another run tackling with long wingspan. Nothing spectacular about him. If I was 6-6 I could do that too! He’s under developed multi millionaire and I’m more capable and make way less. So sorry but I’m tired of excuses. Put up or shut up.

Imagine, pro football players making millions playing in a stadium filled with tens of thousands (some of which are Bucs fans) and they’re bored.
Let me see if I understand. Bowle’s defensive scheme is too complex for some players and boring and monotonous for others.
Regardless, it isn’t working but I feel certain Bowles will “coach it better next season” right ?

Pretty hard to explain how almost every offensive player that Licht drafts is productive, and the exact opposite happens with defensive players.
Licht definitely has his faults, but this isnt a coincidence. Defensive players get worse the longer they play for Bowles.

, that is just more prove that Bowles scheme amd ability to develop players sucks. It also proves JL is at the mercy of his drafted defensive players to be developed under Bowles.

My thought is, if he shines and looks great, he wasn’t used in the scheme correctly or the scheme just didn’t fit him. If he doesn’t donwell, and he gets enough snaps, then he was just never the starter he looked like he should have been when drafted. We’ll see next year post playoffs how he does, given he stays injury free.
Wouldn’t mind getting a 320-340 lb DL end in the draft and allow Kancey the play at OLB more often. We need to draft both of course. 3 picks min for the front 7 & a CB for sure. Licht has done a pretty good job of drafting CBs on day two and three historically.
