“Our Mentality’s Got To Be Different”

March 30th, 2026

So Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht said last week that he feels like the Bucs are the same 6-2 team that walked into the 2025 bye week before crumbling later in the season.

Do you feel the same, Todd Bowles? Joe asked the head coach this morning at the swanky Biltmore resort in Phoenix.

“I feel like we’re a top-flight NFL team. I don’t think we’re 6-2, but I don’t think we’re 2-6, either,” Bowles said.

“I think you start over and I think you have to lay the groundwork again and build differently because you lost two of your best leaders on and off the field. So, we have to build differently and our mentality’s got to be different and there’s got to be different people to step up. But I do feel like we have a very good football team. I thought we let some games go at the end, but I do feel like we have a very good team. So that part I agree with Jason, but I wouldn’t put a record on it.”

Joe was a little stunned Licht “put a record on it” as Bowles said. That’s a high bar. That means, essentially, Licht sees the Bucs as a team that should be looking at a 6-2 start again or darn close to it.

Joe is not trying to lower expectations and feels great that Licht is embracing a high bar. The Bucs are the betting favorites to win the NFC South and should be the favorites in the world of reality, as well.

UGH. Every time he thinks it weakens the Bucs Nation.

Just gotta coach it better – Toad Bowels

  3. Lakeland Says:

They can start the process by drafting players with high football IQ

Players with high motors, energetic, smart, tough
And quit drafting low IQ loafers, with no desire to play

I am all in for a change in attitudes as well. Not sure we will get it with JL/TB.

Exactly! Bowles believes we a roughly 500 ball club as that is all he has ever been able to accomplish. Hearing him say it says all we need to know.

How about – “we’re going to kiss ever loving a$$ this year and win the SB!”

Way to instill 500 confidence Bowles.

Go put your mortgage money on it Grover. Will enjoy watching you lose.

  11. JustVisiting Says:

HC Grover: You should be able to place bets that each of the other teams +do+ win and come out ahead (if you’re right), but it would be a very small return.

    We need a change alright.

Bud Licht and Bowles gotta go.

I think Jason is setting the bar high for a reason

I also have a sneaking suspicion that Jason might not be totally aligned with the Glazers keeping Bowles after the season. May have thought differently. It’s been reported how much the Glazers love them some Todd Bowles and is the reason he is still here after last season’s historic collapse. No Jason Licht included in any of those reports about Bowles being retained. Just the Glazers love fest of Todd.

Are we sure Jason was on the same page as the Glazers in keeping Todd after the season?

Now Jason is setting a high & definitive expectation to be met for Bowles and stating so publicly 🤔

I’d love to know if push came to shove, are the Glazers more loyal to JL who has been there far longer and through a heckuva of a lot more with the Glazers. Or as reported, do they love them some Todd Bowles that dang much 🤷‍♂️

I think there’s something interesting going on there!

I would encourage Mr Bowles to really take the time to smell the roses this season. Enjoy the time you will get to spend coaching with your son and take all of it in.

What does “top-flight” mean? Joe, ask follow up questions! Ask him to be specific! How can you be top-flight but not 6-2? JFC the Bucs are cooked with guy. And Licht can set the bar as high as he wants that doesn’t mean they can reach it. Nothing about this team is exciting. Just more mediocrity year after year.

“I thought we let some games go at the end”

    You think Todd?

  19. Usfbucs Says:

The Bucs didn’t want to keep Bowles otherwise they don’t talk to Harbaugh, andMcDermott.

  20. Kenton Smith Says:

Anybody dumb enough to think Bowles has had the horses on this defense to compete with the best in the league is high on something. I agree that he needs to keep his hands off the offense and let them rip. He needs to take more risk if he wants more rewards. He needs to get players that play more aggressively but this defense has been the whipping post for about long enough. A good, solid, defensive draft with the changes we’ve made to the defense and better special teams and we’re gonna get back to winning games. Todd Bowles has beaten alot of coaches and teams in the league over his years playing and coaching. With 2 teams that don’t have a reputation for winning games. Not by a long shot. Jets and Bucs? Come on now. I’m so tired of knucklehead’s knocking Coach Bowles over and over again.

Again, he needs to keep his mouth shut and let actions speak louder than words.
