A’Shawn Robinson Grew Up Violent

March 13th, 2026

Arse kicker.

New Bucs defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson is known as a violent, physical defender. It’s an image he not only celebrates, but it’s quite accurate.

The violent nature of Robinson’s play is just a carryover from a defense mechanism he had to use growing up in Fort Worth, Tex. when bullies and loudmouths tried to take advantage of him. Wrong move.

“It comes from a little kid that they used to try to pick on for not having anything or being so poor,” Robinson said. “So know what I did every day? Whoop somebody’s ass. Every day. Every f’ing day you said something, I’d beat the sh!t out of you.

“So, that’s where that came from. Even in college, you joke around, I’m gonna beat your ass. So that’s just how I became. And I played the same way on the field.

“So now it’s like, you know, like people talk and try to do, like, dirty stuff [on the field to him] and I just got tired of it. So I just started letting people have it. Let them know that I’m gonna beat the sh!t out of them.”

And Robinson is confident his playing style — not dirty but aggressive with a take-no-s(p)it demeanor will rub off on the rest of the Bucs’ defense, specifically the front-seven.

This is exactly what the Bucs need. That Bucs defense last year and maybe for the past two years was softer than a newborn kitten. No attitude. No aggression (outside of maybe Tykee Smith and Vea). Just soft.

Nobody will ever call Robinson soft. Not without getting jacked up.

“I want to name our child Shawn, ok?”

    “A-ok.”

    “Ok fine, A’Shawn.”

    “You did what?”

  2. Tbswarm Says:

So like the opposite attitude of Gerald McCoy? Im in

  3. D-Rok Says:

Football is the perfect game for controlled violence. Love the attitude!

  4. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

This is what we have needed. Get more of that. We were too soft. Same as replacing McCoy with Suh – our team changed immediately.

  6. Lakeland Says:

Todd Bowles getting rd of these Choir Boys

And he’s bring big angry physical players
And that’s what you need to be successful in the NFL

When Bowles played with the Skins
He played with guys like Dexter Manley, Joe Jacoby, Russ Grimm, Charles Mann, Mark May, Monte Coleman, Darrell Green, Art Monk, Doug Williams, Ricky Sanders etc

He never played with garbage like Bucs have
It’s time the Bucs change their identity, get more physical

I knew this change of philosophy was coming after the Falcons meltdown

  7. Football 1 Says:

Yes he is a big man. Hopefully he helps. We still need a nasty edge rush guy!!. The Bucs just refuse to go there. The guy they got, appears to be a rotational player, not a starter. He now does not have anyone on the otherwise of him compared to the guy and team he just left. I don’t see 11 sacks. I admit he is a small hill , however we need a mountain!!. Then I think about MCColumn and Morrison on the back end. Yes I see a lot of points being given up. I am sorry still getting over ME leaving and agree with him the Buc philosophy is not working and they refuse to change. We may be headed back to the dark days. Sorry to be so negative, but I just don’t see it , the plan?. So now I guess they are going to draft an edge guy, well we know how that goes. Yes I have lost complete faith right now.

    exciting news!!!!!

looks like we’ve admitted to having too many nice guys on defense….

now if the entire team can generate a sense of urgency, we’ll be in great shape!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  9. Jor Jor Binks Says:

Didn’t Darrell Green put tootsie rolls in his socks before games for luck or because he thought it made him run faster or something? I can’t remember exactly why, but he def on the tootsie rolls in socks part….

Loved Art Monk. Such a fun Redskins team with Rypien and Earnest Byner too!

  10. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Looks like (outside of Mike) the Bucs are getting rid of the garbage.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Football 1 … ‘Yes he is a big man. Hopefully he helps. We still need a nasty edge rush guy!!. The Bucs just refuse to go there.’

We’re replacing both Hall & Gaines it looks like. Robinson is an excellent start, but we now need to draft a beastly NT/DT to pair with Vea & get younger for the future. Vita had way too many def snaps last season (763 the most of his career). We typically carry 5 DT/DEs and that’d be Vea, Robinson, a beastly rookie NT/DT, Kancey & Elijah Roberts. Add in 5-6 OLBs (Diaby, Muhammad, Nelson, Walker, Braswell, Kamara and/or a rookie) and we should be in relatively decent shape up-front.

  12. Oxycondomns Says:

so all the picks seem that licht did best he can do with the limitations the glazers put on him but this defense still needs alot of help. not sure drafting the 4th edge off the board will be the best move.

  13. Tom Petty Says:

    I like it !!!
    This guy, Muhammad, Anzalone,
Kancey & Walker & JJ Roberts coming back.
Defense is improved already with the draft yet to come 👍🏼

Wish we could have kept Dean – we’ll need another corner.

Overall. I’d give Todd and JL a grade of B so far in free agency. They’ve added obvious upgrades and didn’t overpay, leaving us more $ to play with later.

  14. Kenton Smith Says:

Vita Vea has a new playmate. Looks good so far. I saw Muhammad pictured in his earlier story. Muhammad has that look in his eyes. I believe Vita may have 2 new playmates. So far, so good.

  15. Lou. Says:

Wondering whether Defense Rules still has the hots for an interior defensive lineman??

Actually, given the age on the inside and the limited snaps Vita Vea plays another DT might still be in order. Three big bodies up front could stabilize a lot.

    (Can’t count on Kancey).

  16. JimBobBuc Says:

Maybe his attitude will wear on Vita. Vita knocks people down, but I don’t recall him ever getting angry. An angry Vita would lay waste to an offense.

  17. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Man said everything I wanted to hear and some extra stuff too. Good, solid signing.

Robinson is going to be our Tommy Kelly, now we need Roberts(or draftee) to step up and be the Darnell Dockett-Calaias Campbell types on the interior. Somebody is going to read this and ask “wtf is he talking about?” 😂

  18. Oddball Says:

Sounds a little like Suh and that seemed to work out pretty well paired with Vita.

  19. Coconut Doughnut Says:

    Ndomukung Suh with cable

  20. toopanca Says:

Yes, I hope that he brings a heap of the attitude that Suh brought (minus the odd 15 yard penalty for, “Oops, didn’t mean to stomp on your throat, your – uh – protective cup, or whatever.”)

I am not saying that he will be playing at Suh’s level. But, his play is still likely a step up from what it is replacing, and the attitude is a big plus!

  21. Tom Petty Says:

Our front 7 is absolutely going to be a problem for opponents. Can’t wait for the draft.

  22. GenocideD Says:

Reminds me of a certain redheaded center we used to have. hmmmm
    #win

  23. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    Excited about this one

  24. Oxycondomns Says:

front 7 has improved but i feel like its hanging on by a thread . half of the front 7 is over 30 and you have injury prone kancey. dean and izien left. do the bucs draft i guard and a wr. licht may need to trade back

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What? You mean he’s tougher than Logan Hall? (extreme sarcasm)

  26. dbbuc711 Says:

Take advantage of being able to do the things on the field that would get you arrested off the field 😁

  27. FortMyersDave Says:

Maybe this guy will hold loafers accountable as well. You had better stay “interested” in the game Zyon.

  28. FrontFour Says:

I like it. Tough. Violent. Bringing back Bucanneer defensive football!

  29. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Take advantage of being able to do the things on the field that would get you arrested off the field”

The way Robinson fawned over the idea of playing next to Vita, 2026 Bash Bros loading?

  30. Proudbucfan Says:

lol” this is the attitude the rest of this country needs kick more a— and stop letting everything hurt your poor little feelings KICK MORE A—

  31. BPBucsfan Says:

But we have to have choir boys and men that are nice to small children and animals. Hat tip to whoever typed this first on here, seen this sentiment typed before by someone else couple weeks ago.

  32. Rod Munch Says:

The more I read about Robinson the more I like him. I’m thinking he’s basically a swap out for Hall, but we shall see, but if that’s the case, it’s a big improvement. He’s mainly a 2-down run stuffer, but did have 5.5 sacks a couple of years ago, although that seems fluky based on the rest of his career. However, as a run stuff, he’s way up there from everything I’ve read. With him and Vita, and Kancey as the pass rush guy, it’s a really good 3-man defensive line.

  33. Will Says:

Yes. Looking forward to seeing him in action.

  34. JD Says:

We have not had all 3 in 3-4 since SUH left. Hall was not good enough, they went out and got it. We needed it, needed it more than the edge.

  35. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The defense took on the demeanor of its HC/DC maybe this guy will cuss them out when he’s put out into covering running backs or tight ends

  36. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Maybe this guy will scare Mayfield into not throwing interceptions in the 4th quarter p

  37. David Says:

As far as I can tell, they’ve signed an ILB, an end, a DT that are making the team older and not a single step closer to having a pass rush.
They also lost their best CB.

At least the running back room did not take a hit losing White but signing Walker.

They better get some line depth because the only way they have a shot at winning their division is if they outscore everybody

The defense is older, not better, and they still have the same DC whose scheme has seen every aspect of the defense decline for three straight years

  38. Simeon4HOF Says:

Love how most of our weaknesses on Defense just moved on, its like the took itself out saying no offense. To become stellar: Had to upgrade Hall (check), upgrade Dean (in progress), upgrade Dennis (done), improve over Reddick (achieved not finished)

  39. Defense Rules Says:

The more I look at our FA signings (most older, bigger & tougher than who they’re replacing), the more I think we’re about to see the 2019 draft replay itself with its’ emphasis on DEFENSE. That year the Top-4 Rnds … 5 picks … went to defense (White, SMB, Dean, Edwards, Nelson).

I think we’ll see something similar this year … NT/DT, ILB, CB, Edge in our Top-4 Rnds, based on BPA when we pick, although there’s a possibility we’ll by-pass Edge and draft a 2nd ILB early if no quality Edges who we like are available when we draft. If not, I think we’ll either pick up a 2nd ILB in Rnd 5 or grab a starter-capable young veteran in free agency.

Tend to think that 2026 could end up being a repeat of the 2019 season, but with potentially better results. BA & Bowles had just arrived, and the defense was converting to a 3-4 and with a lot of new pieces (many rookies). The first 8 games learning his system were rough (Jameis didn’t help with his record INTs), and we went 2-6. But the 2nd half of the season we improved to 5-3 and 2 of the 3 games we lost were close (Bucs offense made 12 turnovers in those 3 losses so the defense didn’t really have much of a chance).

We don’t know yet who we’re playing when this season, but I could see us going 3-5 in the first 8 games, then improving to 6-3 to finish 9-8 on the season. That’d pretty much parallel the 2019 season. If our offense tears it up, we might even be able to finish like 10-7. Of course the opposite of that could just as easily be true if our offense struggles again.
