Alex Cappa Becomes A Free Agent
March 6th, 2026Ineffective backup guard play hurt the Bucs last season.
Joe would be just fine never seeing Dangerous Dan Feeney play another game and watching Michael Jordan sign with the Falcons.
Sure, those guys had good moments. So did Charlie Heck, but being a backup offensive lineman is about consistency. And they were all lacking.
The Bucs need better veteran backups on the interior offensive line.
Alex Cappa was the Bucs’ Super Bowl season stud at right guard. Cappa, a Bucs third-round pick in 2018 had a strong 2021 season, then told Tom Brady, ‘no thank, bruh‘ and left for the Bengals in free agency on a fat contract.
A year ago, Cappa went to Brady’s Raiders on a two-year contract but was cut today, per various reports. Locals in Las Vegas say Cappa didn’t play well at guard but actually impressed when pushed into starting duty at center.
Now 31 years old, it appears Cappa has quality, versatile backup written all over him.
This isn’t Joe looking to the past; it’s Joe looking to the future — hopefully one that puts a better backup in the Bucs’ offensive line room.

Sure why not he’s familiar with Bowels and Licht. Maybe he won’t get hurt
March 6th, 2026 at 6:42 pm
After Cappa left the Bucs his play took a dip.
March 6th, 2026 at 7:17 pm
He was never that good.
March 6th, 2026 at 7:19 pm
Was this guy on the Oline squad that got Burrow murdered in the early season?
March 6th, 2026 at 7:20 pm
Licht does have a thing for big guys with long red hair on the OL…why not, maybe coming back to familiar ground might give him a bit of a boost, especially if the price is right.
March 6th, 2026 at 7:27 pm
Cappa could be a decent depth piece, particularly if he could play center as was mentioned above.
March 6th, 2026 at 7:28 pm
Better than Dan Feeney but not by much.
Sign him if he will play for the league minimum…
March 6th, 2026 at 7:28 pm
Joe I am with you on hopefully never seeing Feeney again. I don’t know whom I don’t want to see more Feeney or Dennis. I think having Capps for depth would awesome. Yes Jordan is a close 3rd.

Banks from Florida next to vea

In the NFL, starting-quality players have an excellent chance to find starting positions on some team. “Depth pieces” are not going to outplay opposing starters. A backup offensive lineman is only a guarantee that the offense can have seven men on the line of scrimmage. Free agency and the salary cap do not allow teams to stockpile starting-quality players on their rosters. Last year, the Bucs did fine until the break when opponents had time to game plan against Tampa’s second-string lineup rather than the starters projected at the beginning of the season. People say injuries are no excuse. That’s inspirational motivational talk. In reality, they are at least a very reasonable explanation for a drop off in performance. There are probably half a dozen teams that were eliminated from contending for the Super Bowl because injuries reduced them to playing backups. The Broncos, for example, off the top of my head.

Definitely would be a valuable addition. Can he Rush the Passer too?
March 6th, 2026 at 8:37 pm
No thanks
March 6th, 2026 at 8:41 pm
Clear that when he left the house of Todd, his game imploded. In fact, it’s his fault the Bucs finished 2-7 last year. Go sign Oneils Cousin, he was a beast .
March 6th, 2026 at 8:58 pm
His injury really hampered him in his time with the Bungles. He got a shot in LV based on his Bucs performance but never returned to that old form. If we are going to the OL way-back machine I would sign 31.5 year old Aaron Stinnie. He has a clean injury history and can be enticed away from the Giants for a couple more pennies than they will offer him. Maybe $2 million per year, being generous in his market? He would have been nice to still have on the roster in 2025. Cappa has lost his magic like Davin Joseph sadly. Stinnie on the other hand is the guy who stepped in like a boss and helped the Bucs win a Super Bowl. Sign him for peanuts, please.
March 6th, 2026 at 9:18 pm
No he isn’t the same player he once was. Stop with this nonsense we need good players
March 6th, 2026 at 9:38 pm
Sure we will just try to do the same stupid crap we always do and tell ppl ” pass rushers dont just become available. Well Jason u had the top three pass rushers in the last five gd years available and you chose your dog shy draft picks that you never hit on for defense again. Thanks
March 6th, 2026 at 9:39 pm
Bring him home
March 6th, 2026 at 9:42 pm
Munch liked the 3rd string intramural OG’s that almost got Baker killed last year. As Munch explains things, we had really good O line play exceeded only by the Bucs stellar pass defense led by Jamel Dean and Zyon McCollum. The real problem the last 3 years has been Baker Mayfield. Mayfield’s meer 95 TD passes for his Buc career doesn’t count according to Munch. Munch would rather focus on the TD pass in the end zone that EE got two hands on and dropped. It was Mayfield’s fault because in the NFL every QB other than Mayfield throws perfect passes.

Crosby traded to the ravens
March 6th, 2026 at 9:46 pm
Right up Licht’s alley.
Middle of the road free agent.
The Ravens get Crosby.
Two first rounders, but they’re taking a risk in the name of winning.
The Bucs take a nap.
March 6th, 2026 at 9:50 pm
Crosby to the Ravens for two 1st. Ravens got fleeced.
March 6th, 2026 at 9:52 pm
Crosby to Ravens
March 6th, 2026 at 10:07 pm
Brady!!! That’s why everyone was better!!!
March 6th, 2026 at 10:27 pm
We’ll sign him if hes cheap. Thats JLs bargin bin FA shopping list.
March 6th, 2026 at 11:15 pm
Would be a good signing as a backup, in particular with some center experience. But I have a feeling he’s still going to try to get another starting gig, but if not, absolutely bring him in.
March 7th, 2026 at 12:37 am
We need help at guard so sign Cappa who by all accounts I have read stunk in Vegas while playing guard? Sorry but no. Loved the dude when he was here but nah. Keep looking please. Surely a decent backup guard is out there somewhere.
Go Bucs!
March 7th, 2026 at 5:29 am
To be fair, I have not watched Cappa so can’t really say how strong he has been.
Obviously, when the Raiders signed him last year at 2 years 11 million, he was not a high level player or would have gotten more money.
Without using PFF as the sole guide, after the 2024 season (March 3, 2025) the Bengals released him with 1 year remaining on his contract after allowing 51 pressures, 36 hurries and 8 sacks — that all sounds quite bad.
Then after the Raiders signed him to a 2 year 11 million contract, he was again released March 6th this year.
The biggest thing, I noted about him in a Raiders uniform is how small he looks. He was never one of our bigger OLine man, but he honestly looked under 300 lbs for the Raiders.
March 7th, 2026 at 7:27 am
So sign him Jason Licht.
March 7th, 2026 at 8:18 am
He’s already made his money. Get someone hungry.
March 7th, 2026 at 11:49 am
Cut by Spytek and Brady – pass.
March 7th, 2026 at 4:27 pm
Do guys who’ve already signed multi million dollar contracts in the past really want to take league minimum deals to be a depth piece in the least thankful position on the field?
I imagine Kappa wil find a team where can at least compete for a starting role, or retire.
March 8th, 2026 at 12:18 am
Cappa looked real good playing between an all-pro right tackle and a pro bowl center. On his own? Meh.
As a backup, maybe.
March 8th, 2026 at 3:18 am
@Hopein1hand Stinnie effectively ended his Bucs career tearing an ACL if I recall so not a clean history but healthier than Cappa I would imagine
March 8th, 2026 at 3:19 am
Correction he played one more yr with us in 23
March 8th, 2026 at 4:43 am
ejm201 thank you for the reminder. You are correct- it was an ACL and MCL tear. He was primed to replace the recently retired Marpet but got rolled on in a preseason game and was put on IR for the duration of 2022. Rookie Goedeke was who ended-up getting that starting gig and wow, was he looking like a waste of a draft pick all year long. He obviously got it together the next season at his old position but that is why I want a guy like Stinnie rather than a drafted IOL back-up. I’m all for drafting some IOL depth but I am not comfortable having them be the next man up if a starter goes down in 2026. I doubt Mauch will be 100% and ready to pick-up where he left off week 1 so some cheap, seasoned depth could be key to getting out of the blocks fast in 2026.
