Emotions Bubbling?

December 28th, 2025

Upset with loss.

The Joe typing this here story is not on the scene at Hard Rock Stadium, but it seems there may have been more ruffling of feathers by a Bucs leader.

In his chat on the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game, Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield made a passing reference that a specific point was made to teammates by Lavonte David.

Hhhmmm? Another arse chewing?

One thing is clear, one of the few guys who showed energy on the turf of Hard Rock Stadium was Bucs receiver Jalen McMillan. And he let his emotions flow while being interviewed on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

“It is aggravating,” McMillan said. “It p!sses me off. I want to win so bad. We just have to click!

“I think we beat ourselves. I don’t think there was anything that the Dolphins did that we didn’t already know they were going to do.”

McMillan suggested dumb errors kept the Bucs from winning.

“I felt like we were in it the whole way,” McMillan said. “It’s the little things that cost us in the end.”

Well, at least that’s three guys (David, Mayfield and McMillan) who wanted to win bad enough to bust their tails.

Sad that David, very likely playing his last game in his hometown, had to go out losing to a rookie seventh-round draft pick making his second start.

    “I am that man.”

Boy, they really strained a hamstring in the marketing department for that one, didn’t they? “I am that man.” It’s vague, it’s self-important, and like most things in modern football, it’s designed to sound tough while saying absolutely nothing. Which man are we talking about here? Because I watched a lot of Sunday games this year and I saw a lot of “men” who didn’t seem to want much to do with the actual sport of football.

When a fumble hits the turf and there’s a pile-up, you’d think “That Man” would be the first one in the dirt, right? Wrong. Nowadays, “That Man” is standing three feet away, adjusting his gloves, thinking about his brand. He’s making a “business decision.” He’s not diving for a loose ball; he’s protecting his career longevity.

Then you’ve got Baker. He throws bad pass after bad pass—then there’s a turnover that his fans act surprised about. Is he “That Man”? Instead of “leading,” he’s on the sidelines looking at a Microsoft Surface tablet with an expression that says, “I didn’t do it, the Wi-Fi is laggy.”

And then there’s the guy supposedly running the show: Todd Bowles. “I am that man.” Really? Because “That Man” on the sideline has the emotional range of a discarded head of lettuce. He’s standing there with his arms folded, watching his lead evaporate in the fourth quarter, looking like a guy waiting for a bus that’s forty minutes late.

In the old days, being “The Man” meant you were the guy who took the hit, gave the hit, and stayed in the game until your nose was pointing toward your ear.

“I am that man.” Give me a break. Next year the slogan will probably be, “I am occasionally available for contact during regulated work hours.” At least that would be honest. It’s all soft language for a hard game. If you have to tell me you’re “That Man,” you’re probably just a guy in a very expensive hat wondering why the clock is running.

I dunno how any Bucs fan can be happy right now with this team

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Baker has literally single handedly lost 4 games in a row.

No one is going to blast their QB, but if they did blast him, it might be the one thing that would turn things around since Baker tends to play best when people are bashing him publicly. Bowles should come out and single out Baker for loses these games, if he did so, that might be the one thing that gets the Bucs a win next week.

  5. Derek Says:

Why would you not go down there to cover this game? Pretty quick trip

  6. Greg Says:

I noticed A LOT of loafing today! Bowles needs to be fired,he has 100% lost the team.

  7. Miller5252 Says:

David had a rough go today. Unfortunately he’ll end up losing his last 5 games. He deserves better on his way out. Time to find a coach that can get the most out of his players because they’re not even close to 50% right now

  8. RuKa_44 Says:

A few years from now someone will write a story about what truly happened behind the scenes right around week 6 or 7. Something happened! Since then this team lost its energy, players playing without any semblance of happiness, press conferences without flair and with a lot of indirect comments… I am convinced something happened that shook this team’s morale and divided the locker room

  9. Sly Pirate Says:

McMillan stopped playing after the INT was the worst play of the game … Until the Baker INT … but we knew that was going to happen.

Anyone want to bet against Baker throwing a 4th Qrt INT next game. Hasn’t he done it 3 out of the last 4 games (plus last year’s playoffs)?

  10. WisconsinBucsFan Says:

Baker may want to win he just is not that good…….every other team besides Cleveland got rid of him quick……..Browns and Bucs think he was star.

He’d obviously pressing and not going thru reads. Has ZERO faith in his o-line to pass block, and has to deal with a travesty for an OC….

Too much for any 1 QB to deal with…….

This coaching staff is ABISMAL!!! Last time it was this bad was Lovie Smith times but Koetter was at least a decent OC……..

Its time to end this Baker and Bowles experiment. They don’t have it and have never had it.

Bowles has no adjustments and no plans with his handpicked roster. He picked every player. He recruited Baker. That’s shows you how good he is at personnel decisions.

Remember when Baker said the team is having more fun with him than Brady and that they’re not as stressed. And Brady responded by saying he was stressed not winning Superbowls.

This is the leader that touches the ball every down on offense. No sense of urgency or attention to details.

It was time for a change after losing that home playoff game last season.

Bowles and Baker need to go.

    Rod, cmon man…,

Baker hasn’t lost the last 5 games for us…….

    ——–

I said 4… but yes, he has single handedly lost 4 games in a row now.

Vs the Saints, he throws for 122 yards and an INT, has the ball with a chance to win the game, and on 4th and 4, he throws at Otton’s feet for a 3 yard gain – and no, Otton was not at fault, on the replay he’s at the 1st down marker but the terrible pass makes him have to go down to the ground to dig out the throw and that put him behind the marker.

Vs the Falcons, he was terrible all night, missing guys all over the play. In the 4th quarter throws one of the worst picks you’ll ever see, then comes back the next drive with a chance to put the game away, misses an easy throw that ends the game and the Bucs lose.

Vs the Panthers he has 145 yards passing and throws another pick on the last series, already in FG range to tie the game, tries to force the ball to Mike while having two guys wide open on the other side of the field. Even if people want to say they weren’t on the same page, which is legit, the issue was the guys open on the other side of the field, it’s a pass that never should be thrown there.

Vs the Dolphins today, another terrible game, has three turnovers, the two INTs were both terrible plays.

Yes, he’s literally, single handedly lost all those games. A merely average QB wins all those games.

  28. John J Barse Says:

ok, you need to learn something about football if you think this statement is true. the defense has cost us almost every game we lost this year and today the offensive line had 3 back ups and the vanilla play calling , there wasn’t a reciever open almost all day.

  36. JSmalls Says:

Rod Munch D’s nuts, Seattle just won by 17 with the QB throwing for 140yd and turning it over twice. You as dumb as a bag of hammers.

  37. DejaVu again Says:

Has Baker been playing bad, heck yeah. Do we need to draft or trade for a future QB, of course we do. However, to say Baker has single handedly lost 4 games just shows how little some folks know about football. They can’t see past their own dislike to actually make a coherent point. Some folks need to wake up and realize this is just a bad football team. Without some early season heroics this could be a 3 or 4 win team.

  38. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Rod Mucnh should be the Head Coach against Carolina. He’s start Teddy Bridgewater not play Baker and then blame Baker for the loss. Rod Mumch is a loser.=

    ——–

Yes, no one was open… except, well, on the first INT when McMillan can walk in for a TD with a decent throw. Or the 2nd INT when he’s got Godwin wide open on the right side of the field.

But yeah, watching the TV angle with a replay like once every 10 plays on offense, you know no one was open even though you couldn’t see what was happening. LOL!

  40. eoschwartz Says:

Baker doesn’t have the size to see the field so he is very replaceable. Just get a guy like the Saints and the Dolphins have big, young , smart and get a quarterback whisperer to develop them.

Who was Brock Purdy or Bo Nix when drafted? It’s the system and the coaching that makes good quarterbacks but they need to be able to see their reads.

    ——–

Yes, if we have a defense that only gives up 10 points a week (over 2 points better than the all-time NFL great 2002 Bucs defense that gave up 12.2 a game), that’s good enough for Baker to get a W. You got me. LOL!

  42. Sal Volatile Says:

    Didn’t watch…Didn’t listen…Didn’t follow on gamecast

The talk was about the Dolphins tanking.
Could it be that the Bucs are trying to tank as well ?

From what I gather here on JBF it’s really difficult to find a plausible explanation for the recent losses. My only guess is that the players (maybe not all) on both sides just do not care and have mutinied.

In the 50 years I have followed this team never have I seen anything like this. This is a metastatic cancer that surely has spread to all corners of One Buc. It seems to me that a total tear down is now inevitable.

This debacle lays at the feet of Bowles, Licht, and the Glazers.

For Bowles not to have done the honorable thing and resigned long before now indicates his hubris to me.

Maybe the Glazers should sell the team to someone that cares. The “Buc” (pun intended) stops with them.

  43. Tom iin Mad acity Says:

McMillan can say he’s upset, but he sure didn’t show it on Baker’s first interception. Yes, the ball was underthrown. However, he failed to high point the throw and aggressively fight for it. Then, after seeing the ball intercepted, he failed to touch the defender down. He nonchalantly watched him get up and run away. He didn’t even appear to Jake an attempt at a tackle. That’s upsetting.

  44. Ballwin Bucs Fan Says:

Baker is good enough to have success with a talented OC like Coen. There’s plenty of talent on this roster. It doesn’t need a full teardown, just a coaching staff change plus a few key tweaks at edge rusher and linebacker.

  45. Tony Says:

    @Ruka44

I wonder if Evans & Lavonte might of told them they were considering retiring at the end of the year.

  46. JSmalls Says:

Munch D’s nuts, Baker had a 13/1 ratio and we needed miracles to beat Falcons and Jets. lol your football IQ is in full display. He guize, Todd needs a qb with a 39/3 ratio to have any chance of success. What a joke.
… there’s literally 1-2 qb’s in this league Turd Bowles can win with.

  47. Tony Says:

    @Sal Volatile

I said this a couple of weeks ago that I think they’ve already started to give up on him.

  48. Sal Volatile Says:

Many are laying the blame on Baker. Maybe he wants out of town just like many of his teammates. Maybe the players are fed up with the organization as a whole.

    ———

Well that fact you believe that is what makes you a Baker Boi.

To win the last 4 weeks, the defense would have had to give up less than 20 points 3 times, and in the other game, all Baker has to do is make an easy pass to e2 for a first down to run out the clock and win the game.

Sorry kiddo, but facts are facts. MVP Baker is no longer an MVP candidate.

    8 LB corpse (not sic)
    9 TEs
    10 Ownership/GM

QB doesn’t crack my top 10 of the things wrong with this team. Problem is, the top 9 need to be fixed by #10 to make this a competitive team. That is, unless this team is acceptable to #10. If that’s true, #10 moves to #1 and all 10 on my list have to be fixed.

It won’t be long now, time will tell.

  57. Defense Rules Says:

DejaVu again … ‘Has Baker been playing bad, heck yeah. Do we need to draft or trade for a future QB, of course we do. Some folks need to wake up and realize this is just a bad football team.’

Baker had an incredible season last year, and is having a mediocre season this year. The difference? We could ask 100 JBFers, and they’d all come up with the same reasons why: (1) injuries; (2) poor OLine play; (3) mediocre new OC. Baker Mayfield is the type of QB who NEEDS a quality team AND coaching to perform at even close to his best. He had it last season; doesn’t have it this year. THAT’S Baker Mayfield.

Keep him for another year, but let’s either high draft a QB )if one’s available when we draft who fits our needs) OR sign a quality QB to back him up.

And yes Deja Vu, we are a BAD football team. Firing this coaching staff in total & starting over sucks, but we all know what happens if we continue with what we’ve got. What we’ve all seen for these past few weeks has been an embarassment. Time to clean house.

    ———-

Again, Baker had a 14-point lead in the 4th quarter, responded by throwing a terrible pick, then in the final drive, needing to run out the clock, having a wide open e2 on an easy pass, and he misses him. That cost them the game, we all knew the defense wouldn’t hold if they punted.

The team was built to win on offense, and instead the Bucs are losing on offense. Four in a row now.

Even if you want to say the defense lost the Falcons game, which isn’t true, well, the Bucs would still be 3-1 and have the playoffs locked up.

  63. JSmalls Says:

Rod, I would say 31pts given up at home to Kirko and 23 pts to saints in terrible conditions is a clear defensive failure. You say the team was built for the offense to carry the team but a majority of the stars have missed most of the season. The only constant has been the terrible defense, punting and return coverage which Turd has had an inability to fix. Turd is nor 34-33 in a terrible division and the Saints now own the best coach in the league. Say what you want but you can’t fire the roster, but you can fire the coach.

  64. JSmalls Says:

Correction, saints now own the best coach in the division

  65. Bee Says:

Rod, I would say 31pts given up at home to Kirko and 23 pts to saints in terrible conditions is a clear defensive failure.

    ———

What were the drives where the Saints scored a TD? It was from the Saints 46, the Bucs 42 and the Bucs 48. They gave up 260 yards, total, on the day – and had a turnover and sack. Baker threw for 122 yards, an INT, and had the ball in his chance to win the game. Expecting the defense to give up 19 points or less to have a chance is nonsense in 2019.

And the Bucs gave up 29 to Kirk – after Baker turned the ball over in the 4th quarter, then followed it up by missing an easy throw that ends the game.

The defense isn’t great, but the defense isn’t the problem. Last year the offense was getting over 29 points a game, this year they’re under 22 points a game. That’s a TD a game less, and that’s why the team is losing and not winning, and that comes down to Baker playing some really bad football these last 2+ months. If he was just an below-average QB the Bucs win these last 4 games, he’s well under that right now. That doesn’t mean he’s terrible all the time, he was hot earlier this year, but right now he’s as cold as it gets.

  70. JSmalls Says:

Rod, who’s the last team to have a bottom 3rd defense that won anything?

  71. Bee Says:

    @rod

Nah, turnovers lose games, especially in the playoffs. Its had to score while you’re giving the other the team the ball.

When they needed to score in the playoffs, they couldn’t. Those final 2 drives on offense in that WC game went like this:

Fumble in Bucs territory after a 4th down stop by the defense. Defense gave up a TD
Next drive: Bucs get to the redzone. 4th and 4 in the redzone and Bowles kicks a FG. Doesn’t trust the offense to get 4 yards.

Bucs never saw the ball again. Turnovers directly lead to losses.

  72. Stpetematt Says:

what coach deserves to keep their job next year?

  75. JSmalls Says:

Muncher of Rods, 11 teams were held under 20pts this weekend.

  76. infomeplease Says:

Another effort less game by a team that quit about 8 weeks ago! At this level, the NFL, for a team to win any game they need about an average of 90 % effort from all the players taking the field. The Bucs have been averaging about 50%, very few of them give a Damn!!! They won’t win next week without the 90% average effort across all players in the game.

Todd Bowles you don’t hold players accountable for not playing with intensity and detail and it shows!! Pack your bags Todd Bowles your time is up!!! You’re no Bruce Arian!!!!!!

  78. ChiBuc Says:

Baker is like a cocaine high. King of the world fir 10 minutes then crash n burn. His “moxy” has not been sustainable ever since the league made him buy his own “smelling salts.” Might as well draft the bigger Baker version with your beloved 4th rd pick JL, Altmyer, because you clearly embrace mediocrity. This way you can strap the team with a stupid Baker contract, re-up Bucky over White, get crazy with Kancey. Meanwhile, Bowles can continue to break decent ballplayers…d. white, Bucky, every edge ever drafted, AWJ, Barton…. just keep throwing good money at bad merch. JL is failing

yea but but the kicker is really good

  82. Tom Horn Says:

I sse alot of blame going to Baker Mayfield, well wait a minute.why in e ery game he is suppose to perform a miracle. The defense cant stop anybody, we kick the ball to the end zone every time because special teams cant cover. So the other team starts on the e5 yard line every time. Defense cant tackle and there is no body running to help get the runners on the ground. Their just watching. No pressure on the qb. No blocking up front for the running backs. This all coaching. If Todd Bowles stays it will just be more of the same next year. Oh and let’s not forget the OC that come up with anything except vanilla play calling.

  83. Tom Horn Says:

You guys who think its all Baker Mayfield fault for the lossing are not watching the same game I am.
