The Ex-Bucs At Sunday’s Game

September 22nd, 2025

Steve Spurrier, the original Bucs quarterback, swings a sword after he gave Bucs fans a hype speech from the pirate ship Sunday. Spurrier was one of an estimated 140 ex-Bucs who took part in the Bucs’ celebration of 50 seasons in the NFL.

Joe got a ton of questions both Sunday and today about which ex-Bucs showed up as the team celebrated 50 years of Bucs ball.

The team never released a list of the some 140 ex-Bucs who attended Sunday’s game. Surely someone at One Buc Palace had a list. Why the secrecy? It’s something to celebrate and be proud that so many could come back.

Earlier today on Joe’s TikTok feed, someone recorded a video of the halftime celebration where every player who came back and was in attendance was recognized and walked out to a giant creamsicle Bucs 50th anniversary emblem at midfield.

The only sad part about the video is that someone in the background had to offer historical commentary on every player who was honored, which too often drowned out the PA announcer.

Maybe Joe didn’t catch it, but Joe did not hear Bucco Bruce Arians’ name (but did hear Chucky’s). Joe knows Arians was there because not only did the Bucs show Arians sitting in a suite with Shaq Barrett, Ali Marpet and Ryan Jensen, but Joe also spoke with Arians after the game.

So maybe the guy offering commentary on everyone drowned out Arians’ name being recognized, and maybe a few other players too.

(Watching this video, Joe just learned Steve Young showed up. Man, talk about hiding a guy. He’s in the Hall of Fame for crying out loud! Joe never saw one picture of him, anywhere.)

You can see the ceremony in the video below.

@tomahawkdean Tampa Bay Buccaneers halftime show yesterday honoring 50 years of some of the teams greatest players dating back to 1976. So awesome to be in the presence of 130+ Bucs legends and for the team to get the win in true Bucs fashion… making us sweat till the last minute!#tampabaybuccaneers #nflfootball #tampabay #buccaneersfootball #jongruden ♬ original sound – TomahawkDean

    Where was Joe Joe JereVicious???

  2. BucsfanMD Says:

Steve Young was announced but wasn’t there

  3. dbbcpa Says:

I believe the Steve Young that showed up was an offensive lineman with the same name. It was not the Quarterback. I was surprised that Ian Beckles did not show. (At least I don’t remember seeing him.)

  4. Max Vasher Says:

I could kick myself for not flying back to attend this game.

  5. Herbiebuc Says:

Max vasher I second that !

  6. BUC4L Says:

I watched it at the game and I was amazed at how many Bucs were there! What a treat it was and very emotional to witness. I’m surprised they didn’t spread it out over a few games. I do recall seeing Bruce Arians walk out. Go Bucs!

  7. Aqualung Says:

So wish Lee Roy Selmon could have been there.

  8. garro Says:

This is nuts Joe! How in the world does the inept PR staff at One Buc screw this one up. That vid should have been done professionally and posted on the Bucs official we site! BOOO! Get some real PR folks team Glazer!

    Go Bucs!

  9. heyjude Says:

Thank you for the video, Joe. Great to see all the love.

  10. Mord Says:

Even Josh Freeman was there! (Didn’t expect that) .. as were the widows or family members of departed ex Bucs like Claybra Selmon (Lee Roy’s wife) and Monte Kiffin’s kids

The number of ex players who limped painfully out of that tunnel was a bit sad, but overall, it was a feel-good thing; my son and I stuck it out in the heat and enjoyed seeing all the generations of this team in that halftime celebration

  11. Coop Says:

    Was Donald Igwebuike there?

  12. BucNWaterBoy Says:

BA was mentioned right after JPP and right before Shaq Barrett.

  13. Darin Says:

They announced Bruce Arians name. And Steve Young was there. Just wasn’t the Steve Young that’s in the HOF.

  14. Razorramone Says:

Steve Young QB has very little good things to say about his (brief ) time here. I think it’s a painful memory, literally.

  15. Bosch Says:

Steve Young had no business being there. He was in hiding when he was the Bucs QB.

No way could I attend this celebration. I would have broken down in tears. Why? Cos it would bring back memories of my beloved, late MIL. I loved her to pieces. Still do. She was a loud and proud (and very smart) Southwest FL cracker. She turned me on to the Tampa Bay Bucs. I almost stroked out when she did. That broke the ice between us. Summer 1979. Right now, I’m feeling teary eyed. She loved the Bucs from the very beginning. She could not stand Culverhouse cos he was an idiot businessman (she was quite successful in her small business). She would love this franchise now. In her memory, Go Bucs, 4-0!!

  17. David Says:

    They announced Bruce.
That was a different Steve Young.

Obviously, Lynch and Brady and Gronk were announcing other games and couldn’t be there.

The whole thing was awesome. The players that were there were incredible. Awesome to see Bruce, Shaq and Jensen sitting together, same with Brooks and Sapp and Gruden.
Very cool when they announced WD40 sitting in a box together.

    Why Buc.com didn’t post this?
