Shilo Sanders Draws Love From Bucs GM

August 5th, 2025

The most popular undrafted free agent rookie in a Bucs training camp Joe can remember is on the roster now. That’s safety Shilo Sanders, Deion Sanders’ 25-year-old son.

He’s a YouTube and social media star after six college seasons spent at South Carolina, Jackson State and Colorado, playing for his dad at the latter two stops.

As a Bucs player, Sanders might need a miracle to make the 53-man roster, but probably not as much of a miracle as Kurt Warner’s receiver son Kade did in Bucs camp in 2023.

Sanders has drawn the attention of Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht, who talked to The Pat And Aaron Show today on WDAE radio about Sanders.

“He does do all the right things,” Licht said “He’s just been an awesome kid around the facility. First one in. Very, very respectful of everybody, not just his coaches but, you know, people working in all aspects of the organization. Great kid. Rooting for him.

“He’s got a way about him with the camera. I think he’s going to be making a lot money at some point, whenever football is over for him, doing his deal on YouTube.”

It’ll be a big preseason for Sanders. If he puts up solid film and can play special teams, then he’ll probably have a strong shot at the Bucs’ practice squad, or another team’s roster. Without injuries, though, don’t count on Sanders making the 53-man cut.

    Oh yeah, I remember him!

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

    Bucs Safeties,

    Antoine Winfield
    Tyrek Smith
    Christian Izien
    Kaevon Merriweather/ JJ Roberts

I don’t know who will win between Merriweather and Roberts
But the loser will probably go to the PS with Rashad Wisdom

I’m not sure about Shiloh Sanders

But these are my personal predictions

He sounds so opposite than his arrogant brother, Shedeur Sanders.

Hey Joe are these JLs words (If he puts up solid film and can play special teams, then he’ll probably have a strong shot at the Bucs’ practice squad, or another team’s roster. Without injuries, though, don’t count on Sanders making the 53-man cut) or yours

    ^^^^^^^

I didn’t realize how deep the Bucs were at S. I’ve heard JJ Roberts is crushing it. Shilo’s not cracking that lineup.

    El hefe:

Special teams is key. Joe had a GM tell him once that if a guy is on the roster and he’s not starting, he better be able to play special teams. That a guy on the roster who doesn’t start and doesn’t play special teams is an endangered species.

  7. Nicholas Carlson Says:

I’m sure the marketing department wants him to make the 53.

  8. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

We’ve got 2 gunner positions up for grabs. That’s the best path to a roster spot whether it’s Sanders, Roberts or the big rangy CB from Ohio whose name is escaping me right now.

Either way, none of those guys are going to take Izien or Merriweather spots in my opinion. Those are our best options for actual safety play if disaster should strike. Wouldn’t be suprised to see Izien get some snaps anyway while everyone is healthy.

  9. Herbiebuc Says:

    Winfield
    Tykee
    *Izien
    Shilo or Roberts
I seen enough of merriweather he’s definitely replaceable

  10. StickinUp4Centers Says:

I don’t ever recall as much UDFA hype for dudes who clearly aren’t making the team as Sanders and Watson have gotten this year.

  11. LakelandBuc Says:

Actually, Kaevon Merriweather was the Bucs highest graded last season, according to PFF. His grade was higher than Winfield, Whitehead, Izien, and higher than Mike Edwards and Ryan Smith. He plays a lot on Special Teams. And he has played in 30 games for the Bucs, including a few starts last season. He knows the playbook, he knows the defense. It won’t be easy to beat him out.

  12. LakelandBuc Says:

    “””Highest Graded Safety””

  13. Buc2Blame Says:

Guarantee he makes the roster. Dude can tackle that’s huge compared to today’s NFL.

  14. LouisFriend Says:

If the kid makes the roster let’s hope he never takes the field. It would mean so many injuries happened the Bucs reverted to their MASH unit from last year. Whether you’re rooting for Shilo or not, just hope we don’t see him in game action when the real bullets start flying.

I would love to see Shilo make the team. He has the “it” factor and can’t wait to see more of him during preseason. There’s a spark, and thinking that will prevail in his playing too.

  16. Internet Aunties & unks for #28 Says:

Shilo is Dawg- he’s football IQ is unmatched, sacks, causes fumbles, balls skills are elite, is a leader of men, is one heckava Tackler, speed & area that he quickly covers is elite, he leaves it All on the field, brings passion, and a Stand up guy for the kids and community. The Buccs would be Lucky to get him as a backup safety ,Special teams, and backup team. He’s the #HeadacheGangCEO GO Nephew Shilo Sanders!!! #Fan-favorite !!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾❤️❤️❤️ Go Buccs

  17. Enkd Says:

Sanders needs to learn how to wrap up when making a tackle or big hit.

His college game tape shows big hits but nearly every single one of them he never wraps up, that won’t work in the NFL kid.

He’s very talented and has good football mentality but I think it’s going to be hard to make the 53. Rooting for him

    LFG BUCS!!!!!

    Fire them cannons
