Mike Evans Talks His “Second Wind”

August 22nd, 2025

Two of Joe’s all-time favorite football players got together for a chat that published last week.

That would be Mike Evans and Johnny Football. The iconic college football duo shared a chat on Johnny’s podcast Glory Daze.

Lotta college chatter about their time at Texas A&M, but Evans also talked about his Buccaneers experience.

Evans is brimming with gratitude and appreciation, in part because he powered through so many tough times in Tampa.

“When we got Tom [Brady] and won a Super Bowl, I feel like my career had new life,” Evans said. “Because my first six seasons, I was a good player, like I was a really great player, but I just didn’t now how much longer I could do the losing. You know, that sh*t takes a toll on you, playing receiver in the NFL. All that running and sprinting and dropping your weight sh**. I didn’t know. But when Tom came to the team and we won a Super Bowl, I think that gave me a second wind at my career. And that’s when I thought that I can continue the 1,000-yard streak, which I’m proud of and I hope I break it this year.”

Joe heard that and had a moment of silence for Brady.

It was said repeatedly at One Buc Palace that The Tom Brady Effect would last for years and ripple through the entire organization. When thinking of that, Joe didn’t consider Mike Evans finding a fountain of youth and motivation to press on to be an all-time great. But apparently, that’s another by-product of Brady.

Thank, Tom!

Glad Mike got to feel what it’s like to win!

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

I’m glad he didn’t end up like Brandon Marshall
Brandon Marshall never played in a playoff game
As great as he was, All-Pro, Pro Bowl player

I think Mike Evans still has a lot left in the tank
Jason Licht will be busy extending players
Mike should be first and foremost

  3. Aqualung Says:

Thanks also to BA for being a real head coach and doing real head coach things. Three practice fields. The accountability sheet. Giving tough love. Winning 37 games over 3 seasons including playoffs, and going 5-1 in the playoffs over two seasons. Guess why the loss happened?

  4. Rod Munch Says:

Mahomes is playing in Chiefs 3rd preseason game, but Baker is too precious to get a snap in preseason.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

The Chiefs know fans are paying big money for those seats, so they let the fans see their stars for at least a series – after not playing their starters last week on the road. Bowles could learn something from that, and remember he’s in the entertainment business.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

The bears also playing Caleb… but the Bucs, they’re starting Teddy Bridgewater who is throwing balls that get guys put on IR.

    But safety first.

  7. JA Says:

Baker doesn’t play in the preseason because he doesn’t need the work. Bowles said last week that Mayfield excelled in inter-team scrimmages. You know, the mimicking of real game situations (according to Todd) where the QB cannot be hit.
Meanwhile, the QB in Kansas City needs preseason play to get hit—still learning, and trying to become well known. In a few years, with multiple preseason games under his belt, this Mahomes kid might inch closer to achieving a concurrent talent level with Baker.
Don’t believe me? There’s plenty of “knowledgeable’ fans here who would support my testimony.

Shut up rod go to bed

  9. Shilo Sanders Says:

Baker has a 45 min highlight reel from 2024 where most have a 20-30 at max my boy is MVP level and doesn’t need preseason

  10. Rod Munch Says:

I will say this worthless preseason game between Chicago and KC is pretty dang entertaining so far, and the fans seem really into it. I’m going to guess the the paying customers there won’t feel completely ripped off being forced to buy tickets to this game since they actually got to see some real NFL football, instead of 5th stringers starting the game like if Bowles was coaching.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Mahomes is still out there on the 3rd drive?!?! This Chiefs coach needs to see the unemployment line, this is reckless, what an idiot who clearly doesn’t know how you prepare for the season the right way.

  12. Shilo Sanders Says:

Love Mike bro…. Joe tell Jason lemme make the team lol

  13. Rod Munch Says:

The refs are in regular season form, every single call going to the Chiefs while missing blatant calls that would have went in Chicago’s favor.

  14. Enkd Says:

    Rod,

I think you need to go see a professional or put the bong down.

  15. heyjude Says:

Thank you for sharing this, Joe. Mike says it right from the heart. Always humble and respectful. Love him! Yes, thank yous to Brady. Go Bucs!

  16. garro Says:

Losing sucks. Winning is superb. I have done a bit of both. Every season brought new hope. went undefeated one year till the last game against our hated rival. They had not won a game all year. They flat assed wooped us. That still ticks me off. Winning is better LOL

    Go Bucs!

  17. Jeffrey Becker Says:

shoulda had two SBs. women… sigh.

  18. Aqualung Says:

    Todd is a woman?

  19. Bartow Buc Says:

There’s nothing like watching ME 13 give it his all. He’s a Hall of Famer no doubt !! Love his testimony about the Brady boost, Tom Brady and Bruce Arians made the Buccaneers a winner !!

But I have to hand it to Coach Bowles for fighting through all the adversity of the last few seasons and turning it into success. I really believe he can take us all the way !! This year !!

    Go Bucs 2025 !!

  20. orlbucfan Says:

When ME13, LVD and WillG got those SB rings, I applauded. They deserved them period!! Big Mike’s hammy has healed. You can tell by the cuts he’s making in his plays. Bowles/Licht have no control over tix prices. That one belongs to the Glazer Boyz. Take it up with them. Anywho, hope EE gets a couple of reps tonight cos he is the real deal!

  21. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“You know, that sh*t takes a toll on you, playing receiver in the NFL. All that running and sprinting and dropping your weight sh**. I didn’t know.”

    100% relatable, this isn’t just a football thing, it’s a life thing.

  22. Stpetematt Says:

    Break like the wind, Mike!

In all seriousness, I think Mike is headed for his all-time best season this year and I’m drafting him in Fantasy Football if I can get him in the 3rd round. He’s just been dominant since day 1 this year.

  23. BradyGronkFan Says:

I seriously hope ME has his best year. I think he has it in him and he has strong chemistry with Mayfield. The big question mark as can he play all 17 games. If he does, he’ll get the all pro and the last feather in his cap missing for his HOF resume.
