Jason Kelce Sees Bucs As Major Threat

August 22nd, 2025

So on Monday night, former Eagles great Jason Kelce was on ESPN TV talking about his most “intriguing” NFL team.

The future Hall of Fame center chose Tampa Bay.

Frankly, Joe would go a different direction when it comes to “intriguing.” The Bucs are very interesting, sure, but they also feel a little predictable. Joe might have chosen the Cardinals with their young defense and top-10 offense, or the Bengals.

Based on his comments, and ones earlier this year, Kelce seems to think the Bucs can challenge the Eagles.

“I thought they were one of the best teams last year before Mike and Evans and Chris Godwin got hurt,” Kelce said.

Joe is sure Kelce remembers well how his Eagles struggled against the Bucs before he retired after the 2023 season.

Yes, the Bucs are for real. When you have very few holes and a Top 10 offense that should keep us in the mix. Now about that Putrid Pass Defense getting better… Go Bucs!!

  2. Bill Kilmer Says:

Hi, interesting, yes Bucs beginning to get a lot of attention. Usually we have been good to start the year then flounder during the middle. With all the injuries thus far, I am thinking we are going to start poorly and then pick up steam as the injured players return and then get in football shape. I also think Atl is going to give the Bucs a real run for the money with the Bucs getting hot toward the end. We will see I guess, but if Atl. suddenly has a defense this could be a tight battle for the Bucs.
    Let’s hope Baker stays upright!!

  3. adam from ny Says:

if you drop the “H” out of threat…

the bucs become a major treat 🙂

  4. Jeff Says:

Can Bowles adapt his defense to handle Philly again. Have to say he’s been great, but also lucky. Philly has had an injured QB and down top 2 wideouts. Can Bowles adapt and handle a healthy Philly team?

  5. geno711 Says:

Jeff it is football. The Bucs were without Goedeke, Winfield and Vea was barely himself coming off a bad knee injury that made him miss the week before.

  6. Aqualung Says:

Jason forgets that the Bucs success has been in spite of the guy wearing two hats that don’t fit. 40 burgers are necessary for wins. Shame.

  7. Aqualung Says:

The simple answer to Jeff’s question is, “No.”

But we’ll find out the magnitude of the failure on September 28.

  8. BakerFan Says:

I get tired of people on this board always taking away from the Bucs success. They play in a weak division, Bucs played a team when banged up…. it is always something with you naysaying so called fans. This is how it works, you field a 53 man roster and practice squad you suit up once a week and play the game. All damn excuses are out the window. The what ifs don’t matter, that is why you field 53 men to play no matter the injuries a TEAM SPORT. If you beat a team that day, you were better than them. All teams have injuries, all teams have stars but the final score is the arbitrator that day on who is better.

Buc fans relish in this time, they can be good for the next few years. When it is a win I don’t want to hear the excuses. It was a Win.

  9. BucsFan81 Says:

If this team can somehow stay healthy which seems to be an issue every year and the defense can finally get it self together then we can beat anyone.

  10. Jeffrey Becker Says:

winfield and evans and godwin? or just mike and chris. if jason hadn’t been on sunny and been awesome, i’d prolly dislike him for his flipflop on the tush push lmao

  11. Deuceswild78 Says:

If we can survive the Wr situation and if our new OC is up to task, then only Todd no Bowles can stop us

  12. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Eagles have score a grand total of 25 points against us in our last 2 matchups.

Since 2021 we’re 4-1 in 5 games against them and the Eagles have averaged 18.6 ppg against us in those 5 games.

Pre-BA & Bowles, the 5 games we played the Eagles from ’09-’18 5 times and were 2-3 in those games.

We may not own Philly, but they pay us rent whether we’re in town or they come to our house.

  13. Greg Says:

I might have gone Panthers. They had a good draft and I am curious to see if that Canales optomism holds up when the season gets rough.

  14. Stpetematt Says:

We are a way more well-rounded team than any of those. Our roster is similar to the Eagles in skill position players and lines. Their D line might have an edge.

  15. Kenton Smith Says:

I’m glad to report we have more fodder for our cannons concerning the Eagles. Mayfield has a new sponsor in Uber Eats and just made a commercial with Bradley Cooper. Cooper is an Eagles fan unabashedly and thought smack talking Baker might be fun. Might have been fun but he doesn’t have to play the Bucs this year. Baker remembers little stuff like that, I’ve seen it too many times. Thanks for the assist Cooper. Might oughta stick to acting though. Eagles defense might appreciate that.

  16. geno711 Says:

The Bucs have won their last two games at least with the Eagles. We match up well against them.

  17. GoneGator Says:

So….. We have at least one “fan” who’s predicting losses to Atlanta and the eagles so far. And that Tez is a dwarf and won’t/shouldn’t make the team.

    Duly noted. 😉

  18. mj Says:

never been so excited for a season ….the defense was the problem last year and I feel like they’ve upgraded at every position… with such a good team barring injuries it kind of all rests on Baker …the way Tom Brady got us a Super Bowl in 2020. It’s kind of cool to think about. I don’t let myself think about it too much but if Baker could do it, it would be more amazing than Tom coming here. I’ve been a fan since 1976 and whatever happens its just a good time to be a Bucks fan, the golden age of the Bucks after all those two and 14 seasons …50 years and two Super Bowls …that’s not bad at all so many teams so many cities would kill for that Stoked!

  19. geno711 Says:

MJ since Glazers took over — 2 super bowls and lots more division championships and playoff games. Bucs history to me is two histories.

    1. Culverhouse — worst sports franchise.
    2. Glazers — model franchise.

  20. BucsFan81 Says:

Think we go 3-1 the first four games only loss is to the Texans cause we suck in prime time games.

  21. Rod Munch Says:

Off topic, the Cardinals have a cornerbacks coach named Ryan Smith… I about fell out of my chair laughing as I assumed it was our Ryan Smith, one of the most clueless corners I’ve ever seen play the game. But alas, no, it’s a different guy. But still, I thought I’d share that amazing discovery that there is more than one Ryan Smith in the NFL.

  22. Buc king Says:

We beat them last year ofcourse we’re a threat when healthy and if we can fix the defense..Todd Bowles

  23. Buc king Says:

Watching Simeon rice coach up Yaya shows how bad the coaches are at skill training these guys..rice had him like sayyy what I can do that?
Bowles needs to get more help from he’s defensive coaches…personally I bring rice on permanently..
    Bring Sapp in part time..
    Bring barber in full time..
    Bring brooks in full time..
Those should be the coaches…Bring back the tampa 2 not this garbage 3 4 that’s out dated most team play 3 wide..so Nicole more important wasn’t in barber the best nicklaus guy ever coaching it

  24. GoneGator Says:

I think we’re better than most realize…. But we need to play complimentary football consistently. We have the talent (if we can keep them on the field), and the coaches, and the culture.

Turnovers, explosive plays, run defense, red zone efficiency. Those are the stats we need to worry about in the regular season and into the playoffs 👍🏼

Kelce has played the Bucs – he knows more than most talking heads.

  25. Aqualung Says:

Only a football savant would know that playing complimentary football, winning the turnover battle, and making explosive plays while limiting opponents’ explosives would be good keys to success. Wow. Next we’ll hear if you score more points than your opponent, you’ll win. Riveting stuff.

  26. mj Says:

if the defense is better at getting off the field we’ll win more games this year that simple and then we need a closer back i’m not sure it’sBucky …4th qt run out the clock tucker or white

  27. Eagle Hunter Says:

Why does anyone care what this guy has to say? You’re a retired lineman. Go to your backyard, cook some brisket and stuff your face.

  28. garro Says:

Loved Kelce. Only the second Eagle player I have ever liked. Loved him alot more when he was not “everywhere”. Over saturated with the dude.

I think I may like it better when we are just ignored. LOL Wait…Did I just say that?

    Go Bucs!
