GameDay Tampa Bay

August 23rd, 2025

Preseason Game 3

Bills at Bucs

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

TV: WFLA-TV Channel 8 with Chris Myers, Rondé Barber and Aileen Hnatiuk.

Rebroadcast: Both WTTA-TV Channel 38 and NFL Network will rebroadcast the game Sunday at 10 a.m. (NFL Network is scheduled to rebroadcast Colts-Bengals Backup Bowl game 18 times Friday through Monday. So 54 hours of programming Labor Day weekend is for one game between two mediocre teams in small Midwestern markets. LOL! No wonder NFL Network was losing money. Joe never knew there were that many Anthony Richardson fans? Or, Jake Browning really is that popular.)

Streaming: Buccaneers.com, Bucs official app and NFL+. (Geographic restrictions apply. Subscription may be required).

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg region (Transmisiones de radio en español en WTMP-FM 96.1 y WMGG-AM 1470 en Tampa). Both English and Spanish radio broadcasts of Bucs games can be accessed via the Bucs official app. Additional stations throughout Florida on the Buccaneers Radio Network can be found here. The game will be broadcast on SiriusXM Channel 226 (Buccaneers Radio Network feed).

Weather: The Bucs brought Florida weather to Pittsburgh last week and tonight, Buffalo is bringing cooler weather to Tampa.  It’s quite humid for Pittsburgh standards (not that soupy for Floridians) and it has been hot this week.  Per AccuWeather.com, there is a better than 50 percent chance of rain for tailgaters, but the closer to kickoff, the chances decrease. Expect temperatures in the low 80s. At kickoff, rain chances will be less than 40 percent and will hold at 20 percent from the second quarter on. Temperatures will remain in the low 80s. Winds are expected to pick up in the fourth quarter.

Odds: Per Hard Rock Bet, as of 4 p.m., Bucs +1.5 (-130); over/under 37.5.

Outlook: Welcome to the 2025 Backup Bowl. Most players who take the field tonight will be working at your neighborhood Home Depot, Applebees or teaching high school history soon. It’s for the players whose names you will never hear from again after Tuesday, or dudes who will be long forgotten unless you enjoy watching the UFL or the European League of Football. Despite this, Joe will try to drum up interest in the game, a steep challenge though that will be. There is a chance Kyle Trask could be playing for his Bucs career tonight. He may be fighting Teddy Bridgewater for the No. 2 quarterback spot. And there is no guarantee Bucs coach Todd Bowles keeps three quarterbacks on the final 53-man roster. Joe has maintained all summer there is one spot on the roster for either Tez Johnson or Trey Palmer, but not both. Whoever has a better punt-return game tonight will likely win a roster spot. With the Bucs suffering injuries at safety, if fan favorite Shilo Sanders can stick out in a good way, like getting a pick, he may just have a prayer of a roster spot. Sanders seems to be a smart player and he’s not shy about sticking his nose in a ballcarrier’s numbers. Coverage is his soft spot. A good game tonight and Joe feels wide receiver Ryan Miller will lock up a roster spot. And of course, the Weekday Warriors, Markees Watts and José Ramirez — the two edge rusher who allegedly drive Tristan Wirfs batty in closed practices seen only by Bucs employees but for some odd reason cannot get on a field on Sundays — will sure help themselves if they can demonstrate they can breathe on a quarterback with people other than Bucs employees watching them. If that all doesn’t entice you to watch analyst Rondé Barber, sideline reporter Aileen Hnatiuk and Fan of JoeBucs Fan, Bucs preseason play-by-play man Chris Myers, then remember Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht is expected to make his annual live preseason TV appearance, likely in the third quarter, to break down the Bucs roster. Real football is but two weeks away, folks.

I think it’s been raining everywhere today, so I hope the field is good with no injuries from a wet turf.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, that Colts vs Bengals game is literally on the schedule 18 times – I’m apologize for doubting Joe and thinking he was exaggerating.

It’s pretty much all cleared out and shouldn’t start raining again tonight – at least that’s what FUTURE radar says. Anywho, Tampa has always had one of the best draining fields in the NFL, and they’re going to get a solid 3+ hours of no rain, so it should be in pretty good shape, hopefully.

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

When your weakness is coverage and you play safety chances are you won’t stiick around. That’s like a pilot saying his weakness is his eyesight. Sanders will end up on the practice squad.

  5. BA’s Red Pen Says:

No Teddy due to “illness,” lol. I’m with the Sage, Trask is fixing to get cut and put on the practice squad.

  6. Hodad Says:

Who cares what meaningless preseason games are broadcast during that weekend? I’ll be watching college football with everyone else Joe.

  7. GoneGator Says:

Game is Meaningful as hell for some people. Let’s go Bucs – no injuries 🤞🏼

  8. BucsOnDeck24 Says:

Something is better than nothing…. I guess, but dam, can they just switchover to anon preseason format (similar to college, but keep the divisions and playoff structure the same).

  9. orlbucfan Says:

Hey Joe, I figured you forgot about the Game Day post. Glad to see it.

  10. Deez Says:

@ dewey – sanders has actually covered well, he need to wrap tackle instead of trying to lay the hard hit. You would know if you actually watched him

You do know NFL preseason is basically a college all-star game, right? No idea how people get so wrapped up in watching little league.

  12. Durango 95 Says:

Sounds like Trask will have the back-up job to start the season.

  13. GoneGator Says:

FYI – for those who can’t watch the game iHeartRadio has the Tampa radio stream.

  14. Trask To The Future Says:

Unfortunately, Trask is probably getting cut. Bowles loves Teddy for some reason and will go with “his guy.”

The fact that Bowles didn’t even give Trask one series with the starting line last week and instead gave it to Teddy who only recently was signed, says all you need to know.

Trask can throw tonight for 12 TDs and he’ll still be getting cut or sent to practice squad. It’s a shame we never got to see him play with the starters to at least see what he could do.

  15. buc4evr Says:

Trask doesn’t look good but a lot has to do with the o-line which looks horrible. Bucs have depth problem on the line.

  16. Oxycondomns Says:

unfortunate for players trying to make the team they have to rely on trask completing a pass to them

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I see Teddy is too ‘sick’ to play.

Conveniently. Probably trying to avoid injury so he can make the roster.

“No Teddy due to “illness,” lol. I’m with the Sage, Trask is fixing to get cut and put on the practice squad.”

If I were him, I’d try to make a different squad. The Bucs have done him wrong at every turn.

  19. Deez Says:

    Bs call on sanders

  20. buc4evr Says:

slip and slide. wonder what cleats they are using

  21. Dewey Selmon Says:

Hey deez, I didn’t say. It was in the article if you knew how to read.

  22. sunny Says:

trask might be playing behind backups but he’s also playing against the bills backups and looks like sh!t. he’s had five years to prove himself to the coaches and front office and there’s a reason they brought in bridgewater.

  23. Stanglassman Says:

Sanders is just a bad football player. He can’t tackle. Just throws his (And misses) shoulder. Do not use a practice squad spot for him just because his last name and his popularity.

More about not wanting to play behind the 3rd string offensive line and taking a beating and looking awful.

  25. buc4evr Says:

same old Trask. holds the ball too long. takes sacks.

  26. SlurpandMunchMyRod Says:

Trask just threw a hospital ball. He has no juice and no muscle memory to escape the rush.

  27. BucU Says:

Trask has showed exactly nothing thru 1 quarter. He does everything slow.
Im in agreement with those suggesting Bridgewater will be QB2. You’re running out of time Kyle.

  28. FortMyersDave Says:

Rod Munch has a point. Bridgewater will not play because the Bucs do not want to get him injured and then they will be forced to keep Trask as the backup. There was no battle for the #2 qb, it was decided the minute Bridgewater signed.

  29. Mike S Says:

    Johnson blowing it

  30. buc4evr Says:

Kameron Johnson just played his last game as a Buc.

  31. Trask To The Future Says:

    Tez looks exciting

  32. Mike S Says:

Trask 10-14 77 yards with two badly dropped passes from Johnson.

    71%

    LOL you haters

  33. Mike S Says:

Sanders out of position and overrunning plays pretty often

  34. Mike S Says:

And he gets the boot lol

  35. Deez Says:

Damn shilo, I was rooting for ya

  36. Britt Says:

    LOL you haters

Seriously, so many so called football fans don’t know what the heck they are talking about. Trask literally has trash for receivers on the field, and until this drive I don’t know if the running backs had a positive rushing yard because the oline is such hot garbage.
Trask is 13-17 with 1 TD (and it should have been 2 tds)

  37. Mike S Says:

    13-17 93 yards TD 108 RTG

    Is that good?

  38. Mike S Says:

If they cut Trask in favor of a rag arm has-been they signed off his couch it will be the biggest joke.

  39. Mike S Says:

Every year the Bucs try out an undersized receiver with quicks and it never works out.

Tez Johnson is different. His athleticism is off the charts. He’s going to stick.

  40. Britt Says:

Bowles can’t hide his hatred of Trask. Interviewer mentions Trask’s stats and asks what he likes about Trasks play “Tez Johnson catches and run after has a lot to do with it”

  41. Mike S Says:

Kyle is effed. Didn’t matter how well he played.

I hope he goes to a team that is willing to give him an opportunity.

He got a raw deal in Tampa.

  42. sunny Says:

lol just saw a bunch of shedeur sanders fans posting stuff almost exactly like trask fans post here.. whining about some kind of conspiracy by stefanski to hold sanders back in favor of dillon gabriel.

  43. Joe Says:

Who cares what meaningless preseason games are broadcast during that weekend? I’ll be watching college football with everyone else Joe.

    Um, Bucs fans (should).

The NFL Network can rebroadcast Colts-Bengals 18 times but the Bills-Bucs only once? You don’t think that’s shafting Bucs fans, especially those who don’t live in the Tampa Bay area?
