Big Prediction For Bucky Irving

August 5th, 2025

Offensive Player of the Year?

Joe remembers the late great dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, “The Big Dog,” Steve Duemig, and his philosophy of sports wagering.

(Duemig never lived to see it, but he would have been fully shocked to see the day that Las Vegas would have an NHL, NFL, and soon, an MLB team, and that Florida would have legal sports wagering. Duemig left us way too soon.)

Joe would see Duemig periodically at his favorite Clearwater or St. Petersburg watering holes. Fans would often ask him for betting angles, specifically, what/who he was a fan of laying cash on. Duemig would always respond, “I’m a fan of value.”

Joe remembered that while watching Scott Seidenberg and Joe’s good friend Mike Tanier discuss odds of NFL Offensive Player of the Year on a recent VSiN segment, it seems like Bucky Irving gives fans a value water for the 2025 award.

But Seidenberg and Tanier are investing in Bucky.

“I don’t think any player won me more money in the prop market last year than Bucky Irving,” Seidenberg said. “And I’m going in this season.

“I’m going in on Bucky Irving to be the Offensive Player of the Year.”

Seidenberg cited advanced stats that have Bucky right up there with Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry.

Tanier, Joe Flacco’s former high school math teacher, also believes Bucky offers wagering value. However, Tanier did have a word of caution:

He is slightly concerned about how long All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs may be out, and how much that may hurt Bucky’s production.

Fair point.

Seidenberg and Tanier firmly believe Bucky will get more touches this year and if he repeats anything close to the same production per touch, Bucky should be one of the most dangerous weapons in the league.

Another question Joe has is new Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard. Given the powerful Bucs receiving corps (especially if you factor an early return for Chris Godwin), will Grizzard lean more to the pass than the run?

Hard Rock, the lone Florida wagering option, has Bucky’s odds of winning “Offensive Player of the Year” at +6000, meaning a $10 bet would bring home $600.

Joe ran this past one of the voters for the “Offensive Player of the Year,” JoeBucsFan.com columnist, the Sage of Tampa Bay Sports, Ira Kaufman. Ira reminded Joe that this award is weighted heavily in favor of quarterbacks.

Duemig would have loved wagering from his phone, from the comfort of his favorite barstool.

I’m thinking this is an award that isn’t weighing heavily in favor of the QB. 8 of the last 11 winners haven’t been QBs. Bucky has a chance!

  2. Beeej Says:

Used to love listening to him and Brantley, was long before there was such a thing as streaming

  3. MJ Says:

more importantly we need wins starting sept 7. ATL has improved it’s pass rush and Tristan is coming back from being hurt so Bucky and the other rb’s will be key to beating the falcons. personal accolades like OPY dont matter

  4. Mike C Says:

    Top 3 RB

  5. BucU Says:

The Tristan Wirfs debacle and yes it was absolutely a debacle will cost this team wins early on and it’s a shame because it was totally avoidable if he had gotten surgery when he should have after the season ended he would be ready to go by now. A multi billion dollar organization with SB aspirations and they completely dropped the ball on the first or second most important asset on this team.
You’ll see soon enough what a disaster this was.

  6. Stpetematt Says:

Baker might be a better bet. What’s his odds?

  7. Grateful Buc Says:

We’re having a legit debate about whether our QB or our RB1 will be Offensive player of the year. We’re eating REALLY good right now.

  8. Lt. Dan Says:

A couple of things give me pause about wagering on Bucky as offensive player of the year:

Tampa is a small market team, Wirfs out, Tucker emerging and the Bucs are loaded at WR and TE. There is only one ball to go around. You know who will touch the ball on every snap? Baker.

  9. Bucsfan Says:

The Big Dog found out he was not actually the Big Dog when he started arguing with Scot Brantley about the Gators and Brantley knocked Duemig out with one punch.

  10. Kenton Smith Says:

Egbuca could take ROY and Offensive player of the year. Grateful Buc, we’re eating really, really, good right now.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

IF Bucky stays healthy….he’s going to be on the field a lot more just sayin!

I’ve already bet a two leg parlay for Bucky and Ashton Jeanty to both go over 1000.5 yards. Easy Money.
