With all the gushing and glowing at One Buc Palace, nobody pulling a check from Team Glazers seems comfortable talking about one of their huge free agent signings of the 2025 offseason.
Joe’s referring to kicker Chase McLaughlin, who is back for his third season in Tampa. Simply put, McLaughlin has been the best kicker in Bucs history so a lot of people are afraid of jinxing the guy.
McLaughlin, 29, has converted more than 93 percent of his field goal attempts and he’s 6-for-7 in the postseason. He’s also made 92 of 94 extra point attempts.
How does he compare to the Bucs’ Super Bowl kickers? Ryan Succop was under 85 percent on field goals in his stellar Bucs career. Martin Gramatica never converted 85 percent in a season.
Joe writes little about McLaughlin. First, it’s kicking. And second, Joe doesn’t want to put a hex on him, either.
However, Joe did track McLaughlin in Saturday’s practice. (The Bucs didn’t practice Sunday and Monday). McLaughlin, who doesn’t kick every day, converted 7-of-7 field goal attempts. Those included two from 50-plus yards and a hurry-up short kick to simulate time expiring.
Joe thinks the Bucs should just let McLaughlin do whatever he wants and fulfull all his requests. Whatever needs to stay happy and focused.

The best kicker in the history of the Bucs is the original Nigerian Nightmare Donald Igwebuike, and it’s not even close.

Donald Igwebuike, king of bad luck.
Only season he made over 80% of his kicks was with the Vikings in his first season with them, a season he only played half of due to being arrested and accused of smuggling heroine into the US from Nigeria, something he was eventually released and cleared of. Never kicked again… career over. Career death by US legal system.
