Chucky Highlights One Of His Favorite Bucs Plays Of 2024

August 4th, 2025

Bucs breakdown by the man who first brought a Vince Lombardi Trophy to Tampa Bay.

Chucky is geeking out over the Bucs.

Maybe because the Glazer Family did the right thing and returned Chucky to the Buccaneers Ring of Honor. Joe thinks that was very big of Team Glazer.

Since, Chucky has really been on the Bucs’ bandwagon. He pumped out a preview of the NFC South, and in his breakdown of the Bucs, Chucky detailed one of his favorite plays in football. It was a play the Bucs ran with a lot of success last year.

It’s basically smart play design with excellent execution by the offensive line — Chucky gave a special shout out to Bucs offensive line coach Kevin Carberry. And who benefits (aside from the Bucs)? Bucky Irving, that’s who.

You can see the second video below where Chucky breaks down the play on a whiteboard. In the first video, Chucky has a video breakdown of the play.

Chucky loves how Ko Kieft blasted a Chargers linebacker and how guard Ben Bredeson wiped out Joey Bosa to spring Bucky for a house call.

Joe is starting to think Chucky is a closet smashmouth football fan. Where was that when he had Mike Alstott?

Chucky with the Dave Logan jersey

Can anyone find something Gruden doesn’t like? Pick any topic about any player, play or subject and I swear Chucky likes whatever it is he’s talking about.

Nothing against the man, I’m glad the Bucs won a SB with him. He’s entertaining and funny and should keep it up. But he’s also a .500 coach in his career with some cringe inducing offenses. I think he gets far too much credit for being an ‘offensive genius’.

  3. Stpetematt Says:

Those counter gap runs are brilliant. When you see all this shifting, you know Bucky is about to churn into a big play. Love it!

  4. PSL Bob Says:

Is there anyone that gets more animated than Chucky? Love the play. Better yet, the execution is to perfection! I betcha Coen was going nuts after that one.

Yeah, it’s a layup of an answer.

Chucky cannot stand RPOs and goes out of his mind with quarterbacks clapping in lieu of a snap count.

And that’s why the game has passed him by. RPOs aren’t going anywhere.

    LouisFriend –

Gruden was well above .500 when we picked him up. He added 9 key players and won us a Super Bowl. The Glazers spent a fortune and the Bucs were in Cap Hell for Gruden’s remaining years here. To his credit, it actually looked like the Buc’s might repeat the year after. We opened the season strong. Beating the Eagles once again. This time in their brand new stadium. Then the injuries started to pile up. The games against the Colts was the dagger that killed that season. The Buc’s were crushing the Colts. Then with under 4 minutes left Peyton puts up 21 points. Then with the help of a crazy penalty in OT on a second kick which hit the upright the kick goes through. By the end of that game we were I believe if memory serves, without Joe Jerivisious, Mike Alstott, Brian Kelly, John Lynch and probably the water boy. Gramatica our automatic kicker was now unable to make an extra point. After that game it was if the Bucs were cursed. Rich McCay bolted to the Falcons mid December too.

Sorry to ramble. Just saying, it wasn’t Gruden’s offensive play calling that had the Bucs losing games.

Gruden was too busy giving the ball to Pittman and watching him constantly run up his offensive lineman’s back and then fall down over and over again. The only game where Gruden actually featured Alstott, which was only due to injuries, was that all-time Alstott classic where he single handedly destroyed the Cleveland Browns. I still have no idea how Gruden watched that game, then went right back to just having Pittman run up his centers rear end.

  8. Beeej Says:

Number 81 created that td by holding his block so well, that was awesome

  9. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I wanna hear what Gruden was puffing on when he traded Khalil Mack for draft picks

  10. Beeej Says:

I remember that. I’m assuming he was trying to fix their overall dearth of talent. Don’t know what they did with those picks tho

That’s not true. Alstott got 26 carries against the Vikes and turned that into only 55 yards. I’m not blaming A-Train, but ever since Gruden got hired Alstott was never much of a fit for his offense. It didn’t help that Mike never had much of an offensive line in front of him.

Regardless, that’s probably the last time Chucky gave Alstott the bulk of the carries.

  12. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    @beej

I looked it up, the Raiders signed:

    2019 1st on RB Josh Jacobs(Packers)

    2020 1st on CB Damon Arnette(Texans)

2020 3rd on Bryan Edwards(A FA, hasn’t taken an NFL snap since 2022)

This makes me appreciate Licht & the rest of our draft team a little more.

  13. ModHairKen Says:

Rod Munch, agreed. The lack of use of Alstott was perplexing. I remember a Denver game at home, protecting a lead, and Alstott destroyed their will to play.

One carry after another, Broncos limped off and looked like someone stole their cat.

It’s a damn shame that he did not get a chance to build a true HOF career. Still think he ought to be in there. But that’s probably Homerism.

Good callback, I did not remember that game so I had to go back and look it up – and yes, those are the numbers, but the numbers don’t really tell the story. Looking at the play by play, and most of the carriers were late in the game when the Bucs were up by a couple of touchdowns and they were running out the clock.

For example, here’s the last 2 offensive series for Tampa…

    1st & 10 at MIN 34
(13:26 – 4th) Michael Pittman (TAM) rushed right side for 14 yards.
    1st & 10 at MIN 20
(13:26 – 4th) Mike Alstott (TAM) rushed left side for 2 yards.
    2nd & 8 at MIN 18
(12:00 – 4th) Mike Alstott (TAM) rushed up the middle for 1 yard.
    3rd & 7 at MIN 17
    (11:50 – 4th) 5 yard penalty on Minnesota.
    3rd & 2 at MIN 12
(11:07 – 4th) Mike Alstott (TAM) rushed right side for 1 yard.
    4th & 1 at MIN 11
(10:30 – 4th) Mike Alstott (TAM) rushed up the middle for -1 yards; turnover on downs.

    1st & 10 at MIN 44
(4:38 – 4th) Mike Alstott (TAM) rushed left side for 7 yards.
    2nd & 3 at MIN 37
(3:55 – 4th) Mike Alstott (TAM) rushed up the middle for 5 yards.
    1st & 10 at MIN 32
(3:45 – 4th) Mike Alstott (TAM) rushed up the middle for 2 yards.
    2nd & 8 at MIN 30
(3:15 – 4th) Mike Alstott (TAM) rushed left side for -1 yards.
    3rd & 9 at MIN 31
    (2:00 – 4th) 2 minute warning.
    3rd & 9 at MIN 31
    (2:00 – 4th) 5 yard penalty on Minnesota.
    3rd & 4 at MIN 26
    (2:00 – 4th) 5 yard penalty on Tampa Bay.
    3rd & 9 at MIN 31
(2:00 – 4th) Mike Alstott (TAM) rushed right side for 1 yard.
    4th & 8 at MIN 30
(2:00 – 4th) Punt by Martin Gramatica (TAM) no return by Minnesota.

That’s 9 carries for 17 yards when they’re just running the clock – personally I don’t count those as him being featured, he was just being used to run clock.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

ModHairKen – Yeah, there’s no real chance for Alstott to make the HOF because of the way Gruden used him and wasted those final years of his career. Just think if Alstott was the focal point of the offense in the Super Bowl and had some highlight runs – that alone might have got him in, instead he just had the one TD where he ran over Bill Romanowski (although Alstott did have 5 catches for 43 yards, I had forgot about that part).

Gruden mainly just used him to run clock, in ultra predicable running situations where defenses would stack the line since Gruden was as predictable as anyone, ever. Alstott in an offense like Coen ran… man, talk about a super star. The moves of Bucky in the body of a FB.

  16. Edgar Berry Says:

Chucky is a blowhard and past his prime. Didn’t like it when he dissed the Bucs after his second sting with the Raiders. He can go pound sand.

  17. Oxycondomns Says:

gruden made a a good point on the hitch a ride with t krass show. its will be challenging for any play caller to schem a game plan without wirfs. not an ideal setup for grizzard in his first game

  18. David Says:

Just watched him preview the Buccaneers offense on YouTube, have not seen the defense breakdown yet, but holy crap am I pumped up for the season to start!!!

  19. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

    You mean Mark Alstott???

  20. Stanglassman Says:

I never knew that the reason the Bucs changed the orange number with Red trim to red numbers with orange trim in ‘77- was because they couldn’t see them in the bright sunlight on the crappy tvs back then.

  21. MerryPlankster777 Says:

The collapse of ’08 still hurts. Just needed to win any one of the last 4 games to make playoffs. However, the domination of ’02/03 will always be remembered! Go Bucs!

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

People are forgetting that Alstott was in his declining years at that point.

  23. BuccaDAWG Says:

I appreciate what Chucky did when he was a Buc. & i appreciate that he spoke well of this years team. The BUCS are gonna Roll. Bank it !!

  24. Stpetematt Says:

Including speaking well of the coach and GM so he isn’t self-promoting.

Still disappointed by those emails but his enthusiasm is infectious.
