Shaq Barrett Lobbies For Backyard Pool Safety
May 7th, 2025Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett looks to be in in great shape and filled with energy.
And he’s also filled with passion for a subject that tragically affected his family.
Shaq’s toddler daughter Arrayah drowned in the pool at his Tampa home two years ago. That got Shaq and his wife involved in promoting pool safety and water safety.
He was doing just that as part of a National Water Safety Month event at the Glazer Children’s Museum this week.
“Make sure you teach your child how to survive in a pool,” Shaq told a group while promoting infant swimming/floating lessons.
“Speaking from the heart is just making it more real for people, and then saying where I went wrong and where my family went wrong.”
Shaq stressed proper pool gates and door alarms, and education. He’s partnered with locally-based Watermelon Swim, which provides water survival and safety lessons for all ages.

Shaq Barrett is a Buc for Life! Bring him back as a coach to help teach the next generation of edge rushers. How about it?

I really hope we sign him for training camp.
Wouldn’t mind bringing JPP back either.
He doesn’t need to play OLB. Make him a DE/DT.
Let JPP infect the young guys with his fire!!
Ain’t nobody fight every snap like JPP!

Unfortunately, I can imagine Shaq’s pain of losing a child. There is nothing worse. Very happy that he’s using his pain to spread the message to others. If that education saves even one child, what a wonderful legacy that his daughter’s life will have left. God bless the Barrett family.

All the prayers for Shaq today. It’s some macho stuff talking about this painful memory routinely. Shaq is a keeper. Glad he’s a Buc..once again.

I love this man. I know he’s probably washed but it sure would be nice if I could root for him one more year.

Working hard to turn a negative into a positive, inspirational to say the least.

What a horrible tragedy to have to endure. Glad Shaq is turning it into something positive.
So this past week leaving NorthShore pool in St. Pete I see the moms bringing their YOUNG as in infants in some cases to the special lesson for them. Little babies in the pool. It’s a sight to behold I can tell you that. By the time these kids are old enough to walk out poolside they’re are trained enough to swim out if they fall in. GREAT PROGRAM and again if you ever get the chance to see one in action it’s very entertaining.

Good comments.
I can’t imagine the pain and the anger. I doubt I could look at a pool again, and Shaq is out here teaching other kids how to be safe in and around the water.
Terrific human and player, we were lucky to have.

Love this.
I got concerned with the title that he was trying to pass some law/regulation. But man he is just a good guy.

There is nothing worse in life to a loving parent than losing a child. Even childless by choice women like me know it. I salute Shaq Barrett as a Buc and decent human being. Kudos to him and his family. 👍

Shaq is one of the good guys. Turning loss and sorrow into something that will benefit so many others. So happy we have Shaq and his family back home.

Love this man. Breaks my heart that he lost a baby, I can’t even imagine the sorrow.

I have a 2 year old. We made the investment to secure our pool they day she learned to walk. Sadly what happened to Shaq is very common in FL especially.

God Bless, Sir, for trying to help others avoid the tragedy your family endured.
I really hope Shaq is a Buc next season

Just give him a chance in training camp. His presence alone will lift the young guys, he’s a better coach than anyone on the defensive staff.
