Chase Daniel: Bucs Have No. 5 NFC Offense
May 7th, 2025The Bucs had one of the best offenses in the NFL last year. Then they added to it in the draft.
Still, with all that firepower, former NFL backup quarterback Chase Daniel isn’t impressed enough. In a recent edition of “The Facility,” part of the family of hollering shows seen weekdays on FS1, Daniel was so hyped about the Bucs offense he pegged the Bucs as currently having the No. 5 offense.
In the NFC.
“I really like what Baker Mayfield has done the last two years,” Daniel said. The Bucs added what “[m]ight be my favorite draft pick, Emeka Egbuka. … Those three guys at receiver? C’mon, now.
“It is all going to roll how Baker goes. I like Baker. I like their offense.”
Well, Daniel doesn’t really like the Bucs offense that much. Joe guesses Daniel is skittish about ranking the Bucs higher up the totem pole because of Josh Grizzard.
Let’s be real: Nobody knows what Grizzard will do with the Bucs offense. He’s a first-time playcaller, not unlike Dave Canales when Canales was hired by Todd Bowles two years ago.
At least Liam Coen, the Bucs’ offensive coordinator last year, had experience calling plays and running an offense at Kentucky in the SEC, which is like a Double-A league for the NFL.
Remember, the Bucs had the No. 3 offense last year with the No. 4 rushing attack and No. 3 passing game.
My Top 5 NFC Offenses: (Post Draft)
1) Eagles
2) Lions
3) Rams
4) Commanders
5) Bucs pic.twitter.com/SSz9tAvBfG— Chase Daniel (@ChaseDaniel) May 1, 2025

Cant really argue his top 5, which essentially means they all could be 1st, and none of this really matters, got to play the games
May 7th, 2025 at 10:50 am
Washington is number one, gotta figure out how to pressure Jaden Daniels.
May 7th, 2025 at 11:00 am
1. Bucs
2. Lions
3. Rams
4. Eagles
5. Commanders
May 7th, 2025 at 11:23 am
Grizz needs lots of reps and I’m optimistic he’ll do well. So much depends on injuries for all these teams. How good and how much will Godwin play? Can Mike take care of his hammy?
May 7th, 2025 at 11:23 am
The Bucs offense will improve even further if the defense improves. Get the opponent off the field on 3rd and 4th downs, and the offense will have more snaps and time of possession both of which lead (or should lead) to more scoring. I really believe the Bucs are going to make some noise this year. GO BUCS!
May 7th, 2025 at 11:37 am
Unfortunately the team his severely handicapped by the putrid pass defense.
A top 5 offense means zero if t’s on the bench.
See the lone playoff game this past season, a loos to a rookie QB and forcing zero punts.
The Redskins put on a clinic how to shut down the high powered Bucs offense.
Exploit the Swiss cheese buttery soft fifteen yards off the ball pass defense.
It’s the DC stupid. He losses games before they are even played.
Fire Bowles now!!!
May 7th, 2025 at 11:39 am
Bucs’ offensive total yards will go down due to the defense not making the offense have to drive 80 yards every time. TD production will go up, hopefully with leads, we will see the RB room tear it up even more. Predicting 5 defensive TDs this year
May 7th, 2025 at 11:43 am
Who was ranked above us? Only the Lions could be right. The Rams perhaps are close but cmon. The eagles biggest weakness is their QB. The Commanders WRs aren’t as good as ours and they lack a running game. Still disrespected smh
May 7th, 2025 at 11:44 am
What did Baker have last year ? 43 touchdowns? And the return of the full offensive line? I guess I get the concerns about Godwin… but 5th?
May 7th, 2025 at 11:50 am
“Fire Bowles now!!!”
Ah suspicions confirmed. Just another prejudiced TROLL!!!!
May 7th, 2025 at 11:54 am
Only one I would quibble with is ranking the Rams ahead of us.
But realistically I think those 5 teams could end up in any order by end of the season. All very good offenses with lots of weapons.

I care not what color a person is, I care that you aren’t capable of doing the job.
Bowles is a losing HC and he always will be. We need to move on from his inept coaching style.
May 7th, 2025 at 11:58 am
Joe, you forgot the ‘El Serpiente’ moniker before Liam Coen’s name.
As much as you drive nicknames into the ground here, please don’t forget the most recent and felt one in the Tampa Bay area.
Although, I think Grizzard might end up being even better.
Top-3 in NFC at minimum as of right now.
Better than the Rams and Lions (lost multiple coordinators) and prob better than the Commandos
May 7th, 2025 at 12:03 pm
Right now as far as projections go you might as well be determining things by throwing darts.
On paper the Bucs offense is stacked but can be throttled as the Commanders demonstrated as a middle of the pack defense.
Defensive rankings post draft have the Bucs playing games against opponents ranked as
2×32, 2×31, 2×28, 25, 23, 22, 21, 19,17, 14, 12, 6, 4, 3, 2.
If these rankings are pretty accurate how could the Bucs not put up big numbers in the regular season and finish at least 6th?
May 7th, 2025 at 12:13 pm
I certainly can argue his list and it comes down to one major factor… the OL.
Lions, Eagles, Bucs are top 3 because of their blockers. Could make the case for Wash bumping Bucs down a spot but they don’t have an RB like Bucky.
Lions also have a new OC.
Rams OL is average and Stafford is a hit away from being on the shelf. He’s tough but seemingly battles injuries every year.
May 7th, 2025 at 12:18 pm
right on Guzzie
May 7th, 2025 at 12:20 pm
For what it’s worth, Cohen did have that one year, sandwiched in between those two years at Kentucky, where he was the “Offensive Coordinator” for the Rams under McVay! As far as I know, he was calling plays… For the majority of times anyway, I suppose. It didn’t work-out so great where they were devastated by injuries that season, and he knew McVay was taking it back over himself again, for the following season… And, that was why he crawled BACK to Kentucky!!!!
Another thing… I never watch “The Facility.” Can’t stand those guys. But, I did catch the part this morning about the Pickins trade to the Cowboys… That was the ONLY reason I continued to listen. They were seriously sitting there and saying that NOW the COWBOYS have THE most explosive offense in the NFL, & etc. Seriously. I mean, come on… Talk about THE biggest ‘overreaction’ of THE YEAR. Geeez. Please. And, of course, they were like, “NAME ONE TEAM With Any Better,” & “I Can’t Think Of One,” & so on… I’m sitting here like, “THE BUCS.” WHAT ABOUT THE BUCS!?” Just Zero Respect. It’s RIDICULOUS.
May 7th, 2025 at 12:28 pm
I Like Grizzard a lot, whenever we needed a 1st down on 3rd down he made a clutch call. No doubt he will have a very successful season and be the new Giants coach next season. Go Bucs
May 7th, 2025 at 12:35 pm
Our offensive line is set. They were good last year with a rookie center. Barton is at home now, as are the rest of his mates. I think they take the next step to elite then look out. We’ll be a tough out. The defense was more of a problem, and I think we improved this offseason. I’d be willing to bet we have three new starters in the secondary. Morrison, Parrish, and Smith moving to safety. We added a vet edge rusher, and drafted David Walker, and Roberts. We have a new D line coach, and OLB coach in Foote. The staff was tweeked, pieces were added, it’s not going to be the same defense. Like the direction we’re heading.
May 7th, 2025 at 12:39 pm
If Grizzard can do one thing there will be no stopping us next year. Last year we marched down the field in 5 or 6 plays and scored. Many times it was a field goal. I just do not understand how you can totally dominate a defense, get down to the 10 or 15 yard line and stall out and be forced to kick for 3. It happened way too many times last year. It seems to me that if you have the ability to go from one end of the field to the other in 5 or 6 plays why can’t you go ALL the way. Whatever is causing that should be analyzed and analyzed until they find a solution. I can understand if it took you 10 or 15 plays to make it within scoring range why you would have to kick but the way we did it last year….no. Find a solution!!!
May 7th, 2025 at 12:43 pm
Top-5 scoring finishers in 2024 …
#1 Ranking – Lions: 564 points scored.
#2 Ranking – Bills: 525 points scored.
#3 Ranking – Ravens: 518 points scored.
#4 Ranking – Bucs: 502 points scored.
#5 Ranking – Commanders: 485 points scored.
Those numbers are carved in stone; no way to change them since 2024 is history. By the same token though, 2025 has yet to be played. Pundits like Chase Daniels can come up with all the projections they want, but they’re just meaningless predictions with no basis in fact.
However, IF the Bucs end up with the #5 Ranked offense AND the #5 Ranked defense, we’ll have a really good chance of winning this year’s Super Bowl.
May 7th, 2025 at 12:47 pm
Like all offseason ranking and prediction, it’s worthless hot air.
May 7th, 2025 at 1:01 pm
DR: AMEN!! Hopefully, the Buc Luck demon will skip us this season.
May 7th, 2025 at 1:19 pm
@MelvinJunior – Coen did not call plays as the Rams OC, that was still McVay.
That’s part of the reason he went back to Kentucky.
May 7th, 2025 at 1:24 pm
The Commanders had the No.4 offense because they went for the first down on fourth down so many times it became a regular part of their offensive scheme. Now that teams are aware of that they will adjust their defenses accordingly this season. Expect a difference for the Commanders this season.

Great, now if the Bucs could have a number 5 defense we would be SB contenders. A 29th ranked pass defense and an overall ranking of 18th is not going to get it done. Jalen Ramsey and another vet Edge would help a lot more than drafting EE.
May 7th, 2025 at 1:43 pm
Cowboys get Pickens…
We need to make a move for Jalen Ramsey for teams with two WR1 talents.
Ramsey is the only player that can lock down an entire half side of the football field.
Ramsey is the ultimate insurance for teams with two good wide receivers.

When you are defending against a Red Zone offense between the 20’s and have to be aware of the deep threat it is a lot different than when you have the end line limiting the field.

TD 7 plays 74 yds Penalty Assisted
TD 10 plays 72yds
Fumble 4 plays 13 yds
FG 8 plays 61 yds.

Every drive is the Playoffs are at a Premium. I suppose if the Commanders are not given props for stopping them the the Bucs simply pissed 3 drives away and fell short of the necessary outcomes on two.
May 7th, 2025 at 2:43 pm
A dual-TE look in a McVay/Shanahan scheme with Evans, Godwin, McMillan, Egbuka, and Otton? That’s surgical. It’s not just explosive—it’s contingency. If Mike goes down, Baker’s got another big-body target he already trusts. Chase calls it the No. 5 offense in the NFC. Add Andrews, and it’s a top-three unit—no debate.
May 7th, 2025 at 3:11 pm
Lions are the only team you can argue have a better offence than us in the NFC, Rams is laughable, Washington are just a step behind and Eagles offence would be middle of the pack if not for their elite D getting so many turn overs and 3 and outs.
May 7th, 2025 at 3:16 pm
Off subject, Bowles and Grizz better not forget about how we were 0-5 in Night games last season, unacceptable!!! Let’s figure this out guy’s… Go Bucs

No way the Eagles are the #1 O. That’s like saying the Ravens O was #1 because they won the Super Bowl when Trent Dilfer was the QB. OK maybe the Eagles O is a little better, but they certainly aren’t better than any of the teams on that list.
I would agree with the Lions being #1, Eagles at #5 and the others in any order because they are very close to being equal.

You sure about that bud? Didn’t you say (under a different name) that Todd was a dei hire! Did you not say there would be issues if Todd were fired due to his skin color?
Todd Bowles is a good man AND a very good coach. AND he will be our head coach for AT LEAST another year. And Baker will be our QB. I’d say get over it but I know you can’t so keep making up new names to dis whoever you want to – just don’t expect that everybody is just going to listen without pushback.

I can’t believe the Cowboys got Pickens for just a 3rd round pick. Man, that greatly improves their team and they could end up ahead of the Bucs by the end of the year in terms of passing. Hell, if I’m the Bucs, I’d have traded for Pickens if that’s all it cost, the guy is a true #1, and the Cowboys got him for a 3rd. Dang.
May 7th, 2025 at 3:37 pm
Joe,
Why we keep hyping up this offense when this defense couldnt stop a nosebleed on 4th down in the playoffs.
our defense is very soft and we have no depth at middle linebacker.
this team cannot withstand an injury to lavonte david #54 or dennis #8
also Jalen Ramsey is availalbe to sure up our secondary and give us that x factor, but the Bucs would rather rely on their rookie corners?
reminds me of Last Year when Saqoun Barkley was a free agent and we passed.
When we finna make a legit move?
Are we in Win Now Mode, do we want to a win a superbowl?
Or is our goal 5 straight NFC south titles?
May 7th, 2025 at 4:01 pm
jarrett – Ramsey is washed up. Why in the world do you think Miami would let him go, and why else in the world do you think no one bothered to try to trade for him? Maybe the Bucs should also sign Joe Montana and Deion Sanders as well.
May 7th, 2025 at 4:10 pm
I don’t care about the stats if you’re going to get knocked out of the playoffs in the first or second round. All of this don’t mean nothing but you still can’t forget that lead the league in picks and was ranked second in passing yards under 10 yards. Good stats they’re pro bowl numbers but still haven’t gotten to the NFC Championship. Alex Smith 2.0 not bad but he haven’t proven he get us over the hump in the playoffs. Get us to the NFC Championship this year and I will have more confidence that we can win a Superbowl in 2026.
May 7th, 2025 at 4:11 pm
Would be interesting to know where the Bucs offense would have been had Evans not missed his time, had Godwin not missed the last third of the season, and had Bucky played a larger role early in the year. Also would have helped if Mayfield had quit losing his mind in the 2nd quarter of every game.

And no, he’s nowhere close to being a HOFer.
So… no, let’s not go get him.

I am with Oneilbuc. The stats do not matter as much at this point, it is about advancing in the playoffs.
I have belief in both Baker Mayfield and Tom Brady that they were good enough QBs to lead us to the promised land. Really never had that feeling with Americas Turnover Machine – Jameis Winston.
I am not sure what Oneilbuc is trying to pick on bad stats of Baker when even his bad stats are not nearly as bad as JayMiss.
This offense clearly has the goods to take us to the promised land. At least 20 teams in the NFL can’t get there. We go into the season with a legitimate shot.

It was a calculated effort by Arians to force the Bucs into hiring him.

1-5 in prime time night games.
That’s not an accident, it’s a habit.

#3 offense in the league is now number 5 in the NFC??? How does that math work???
May 7th, 2025 at 5:31 pm
The truth of the 2024 playoffs is this, we beat Washington earlier in the year so Dan Quinn knows the only way to beat us is to keep the ball out of Bakers hands. He does such a good job Baker ends up watching most of the game from the sidelines and throws 50% of what his season average is at 35 vs 18 in the Washington game. I guess that’s Bakers fault. Washington goes on to the NFC Championship game and loses to Kansas City, a team that all we had to do to beat them was throw the ball for 2 points instead of kick for 1. Kansas city goes to the superbowl and plays a team we spanked several weeks earlier 33-16. Baker puts us in a position to win but it “seems” the coaches dont finish the job. Onei, why don’t you tell us how we win when the offense sits on the sidelines for half the game. Tells me how you overcome that??
May 7th, 2025 at 5:34 pm
Pundits by and large have not noticed how good the OL is, yet.

May 7th, 2025 at 5:48 pm
“Davyboy” – actually, that’s pretty common with about every team in the NFL, as the field shrinks and the Defenses stiffen. With that said, that is definitely, one of my concerns, as well. I think our BIGGEST problem with that, is slowing down. They always ‘sloooowed waaaayyy downnnnn’ once they reached the endzone. I’ve actually been thinking a lot about this lately! It was one of MY ‘biggest’ concerns going into last season under Cohen, after watching him VERY closely, during his two seasons at Kentucky. And, I voiced it here STRONGLY, last season. Pace. Tempo. Let’s Keep It Movin.’ GO. Especially, as soon as you ‘cross midfield’ after picking up first-downs, & EVEN FASTER when inside the 20. There’s no need to walk back and ‘huddle-up’ then break the huddle with 14-16 seconds left, walk up to the line, and SNAP the ball, with ONLY just a ‘second or two’ left on the play-clock. All it does is allow the defense to get set, sniff-out the play, pin their ears back, and anticipate (jumping) the snap. And, then they friggin’ run up the middle, and get STUFFED. Teams get way too conservative, AND it allows the Defense time to substitute according to down and distance while also keeping them fresh. WEAR ‘EM DOWN. Pace. Tempo. GO. When you complete a pass across midfield for a first-down… MOVE. Keep it rollin.’ Get to the line, and hit ‘em with a ‘quick-hittin’ run-play up the middle, a quick slant to Godwin, or over to a wide-open Evans along the sideline, maybe a little delayed inside zone run, how bout a little ‘play-action’ or a draw, or hit RWhite out of the backfield, or even take a shot downfield even, if it’s there, when you catch them confused/off-guard… Just Whatever, Gooooo. LETS GO!!!! MOVE. Then, huddle back up on 2nd and 3rd downs… Keep it MOVIN. Pace. Tempo. Wear ‘Em TF DOWN, get out to a lead, & then run it down THEIR THROATS all 4th-Quarter long against a wornnnn down Defense. Go Fast.
May 7th, 2025 at 5:50 pm

May 7th, 2025 at 7:45 pm
Yes Melvin, I agree, that seems like it would work better. Now that you mention being too conservative in the red zone that is exactly what they do too often and then are forced to kick for 3.😠
May 7th, 2025 at 8:06 pm
Geno. I’m not the type to celebrate just making it to the playoffs and losing every year. . As fans we have to want more than that again we are in the same situation the Chiefs were in with Alex Smith. And next year if we don’t make it to the NFC Championship game I think it’s time to draft a quarterback in the first round and do actually like what the Chiefs did keep Baker Mayfield and once we close out the division then let the young quarterback play the last game. If the Chiefs would have stayed with Alex Smith they would have never gotten to the Superbowl.
May 7th, 2025 at 8:12 pm
I think the main thing to do is to “think” in the red zone like you “thought” on your own 20-30. Don’t get conservative with 15-20 yards to go. I think that sums up what you were saying Melvin
May 7th, 2025 at 8:16 pm
So onei, you don’t think the coaches are at fault in the Washington game? You don’t think we got out coached? You don’t think keeping Baker off the field half the game and half his throws had anything to do with the loss?
May 7th, 2025 at 8:19 pm
I’d put the Bucs at number three with only the Eagles and Rams as potentially better. That said, I would not at all be shocked if the Bucs weren’t not only #1 in the NFC, but #1 overall in 2025 on offense.
May 7th, 2025 at 8:38 pm
Onei, why do you think Dan Quinns offense played like it did? Because he KNEW Baker and the boys would torch them into crispy critters if he didnt. I can hear him telling the offense in the locker room before the game, “boys if Baker Mayfield gets his normal number of throws in we will get beat worse than the first time we played them back in September. So you have to run that clock down, eat that time up, dont let Mayfield on that field”, i can hear it. And they ran the plan to perfection. We scored 4 out of 6 possessions. Baker played the BEST of all quarterbacks in the entire playoffs at 146 passer rating with an 83% completion percentage. I can’t believe you can’t, don’t, won’t see that but oh well I guess the world will still turn and the sun rise regardless of your inability to see reality and not be delusional.
I like Bowles, he found Baker, but it’s a cold fact that some of us in this world just aren’t cut out to be HC’s. We can be great defensive coaches like he was but it ends there for most people. I’m glad I don’t have to make that call on a good man.

1) Bucs completely shut down McLaurin in the regular season last year (2 catches for 17 yards). 7 catches for 89 yards and a TD wasn’t great in the playoffs but hardly the reason the Bucs lost.
2) Didn’t play the Vikings last year, so no statistics to report (or claim would have been great for Jefferson).
3) Yes, Amon Ra St. Brown had a good game against the Bucs last year but the rest of the team didn’t – Bucs WIN!
4) A.J. Brown never played against the Bucs last season.
Keep in mind, of course, that the Bucs defense was decimated by injuries last season. If they remain relatively healthy compared to last year, there is no reason to believe this year’s defense cannot be top 10. Top five is a bit of a stretch, but a top 5 offense and top 10 defense will get a team pretty far.
Why, other than injuries, do I think the Bucs defense could be markedly better – especially at pass defense? Four man rush! With the addition of Haason Reddick, pass rushing draft picks and, hopefully, the maturation of Chris Braswell, if the Bucs can pressure much better with four this season, it allows the middle of the filed to be better protected against the dinks and dunks.
May 7th, 2025 at 8:58 pm
@MelvinJunior
Going to the line with 2-3 plays, checking and adjusting plays based on defensive clues pre-snap, was a foundation of Gingers offensive install last year. I would think that had something to do with us not going “tempo” very much last year.
I’m not saying up tempo offenses don’t offer advantages just wondering if it might conflict with the multiple plays from the same formation/s, chosen at the LOS by Baker in the McVay/Shanahan offshoot style of offense we ran.
I think Coen just hit a wall with his play calling the last 3rd of the season. It would have been worse, probably, if Grizz hadn’t bailed us out so many times with his 3rd down plays. Hard to believe so many people here wanted to give Old Red our HC job not so long ago.

One way is to sustain a drive on offense! The offense sat on the sidelines, in large part, because it didn’t move the ball when it had the chance.

GoneGator, I am not following you on not moving the ball. We scored 4 of the 6 times we had the ball and did it on an average of 8 plays per drive. I’m not aware of anyone scoring 4 times in 32 plays or 8 plays per scoring drive. The only times we didnt score were due to 2 rookie mistakes. One of the times we didn’t score was due to Barton trying something sneaky at the line and it backfired, a rookie mistake. The other time we failed to score was the fumble, another rookie mistake. Is there something I’m missing?
I disagree why we sat on the sidelines. In what I saw Quinns game plan was to throw short passes and go for it on 4th down in order to run the clock out and keep the ball away from our lethal offense, which they did to perfection. You cannot win when you only get 50% of your normal opportunities to score. It was a great plan and it worked because we didn’t have an answer.

I would not call Terry McLaurin a “poor man’s” Chris Godwin, because that would be ABSURD. 💯
