Bucs Cited Among Top Teams To Trade For Jalen Ramsey

May 3rd, 2025

Miami CB Jalen Ramsey.

If the Bucs want to make a splash and are serious about making a Super Bowl run, shouldn’t the Bucs be seriously contemplating adding one of the better corners in the game?

While Joe is not the biggest Jalen Ramsey fan, there is no question the man is talented and would instantly be the best corner on the Tampa Bay roster.

And while it seems far-fetched the Bucs would go out and get Ramsey since they added two corners on Day 2 of the draft, one of those corners is coming off his second hip surgery and isn’t expected to hit the practice fields at One Buc Palace until July.

Hey, it’s not like Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht didn’t swing for the fences before to land top-shelf talent to make a Super Bowl run.

Nick Shook, typing for NFL.com, named four teams he can see trying to swing a trade for Ramsey, currently on the Dolphins’ roster. His No. 2 team is the Bucs.

Tampa Bay has had a remarkably productive offseason for a defending division champion, adding young talent to the offense while retaining Lavonte David and welcoming in key veterans on the defensive side in free agency. A quick scan of the Bucs’ depth chart reveals one area in which they could use some more help: the secondary, where Jamel Dean and Antoine Winfield reside as their best defenders. Sure, they have young talent at corner; Tykee Smith flashed last season and Zyon McCollum is ascending. Plus, the Bucs did invest two high picks on the position in April’s draft (Benjamin Morrison, Round 2; Jacob Parrish, Round 3). So it’s fair to say the Bucs could probably use more help at safety than at corner, and considering Ramsey has previously expressed interest in making that position transition, Tampa might be the perfect place for him to find a valued role with a contender.

In several post-draft interviews, Licht has been open about how he changed his draft strategy in 2019 to bring in only quality guys. Yet after this change of strategy, Licht did bring in nutcase Antonio Brown.

And while Brown’s exit (literal and physical) was damn near inevitable given his squirrelly head, Joe also seems to recall Brown catching a touchdown pass for the Bucs in a Super Bowl win. So really, how badly did he drag down the team?

Bucs fans who dream of Ramsey wearing the pewter and red may have had a wrench thrown into their dreams yesterday. Appearing on “Schein on Sports,” hosted by popular sports TV and radio personality Adam Schein heard exclusively on SiriusXM Radio, Rams coach Sean McVay said efforts to bring Ramsey back to Los Angeles are “ongoing.”

If corner is such an issue like Bucs coach Todd Bowles says it has been, shouldn’t the Bucs at least explore if Ramsey would consider playing for them?

  1. Kalind Says:

He said he’s cool to play safety. So let’s get him to do that instead and that secondary would be unbelievable

  2. teacherman Says:

A 30 year old CB? Huge ego?

    Not happening.

I do however want to hunt for a 3rd rookie CB to push Funkmaster, Hayes and Bryce Hall for the #5 CB spot.

If we don’t find a stud 3rd rookie CB this year.

I hope we use another 2nd or 3rd round pick next another CB.

I want 6 feisty corners in Tampa Bay.

  3. FrontFour Says:

    Pass.

  4. ToddBowles#1 Says:

    Hard pass.

Dude is a cancer in the locker room.

And if character is your main asset to play in Tampa, he doesn’t qualify.

Plus, he doesn’t play Todd’s soft as play dough pass defense.

On 3rd and 7 he’d want to play tight man coverage. Not 15 yards off the ball.

  5. Aqualung Says:

The guys on our roster are already trained at 15 yard off coverage to keep everything in front of them. Letting the other team play ball control offense is genius, that way our offense is fresh. Don’t need to trade for that.

  6. Allen Lofton Says:

    A definite pass

  7. dmatt Says:

No,no,n h_ _l no. We have developed a team of players with character and drama free. Ramsey is a whining 30 year old who consumes time complaining to opponents n teammates. He’s a cancer. We’re looking for leaders n not primadonnas. Our young corner

  8. Dew Says:

    Hell no.

  9. Joe Says:

Dude is a cancer in the locker room.

How? His first team got to an AFC championship narrowly missing a trip to the Super Bowl.

His second team won a Super Bowl.

    “Cancer?” More like a tonic.

Let’s see, won a national championship in college. Got to an AFC championship with his first NFL team. Won a Super Bowl with his second NFL team.

Sounds more like a winner to Joe.

Is he an ass? Yeah. But he wins, too.

  10. Jmarkbuc Says:

Sean McVay seemed to like him

  11. D-Mac Says:

Yea great idea. Let’s go get him so none of the rookies get any playing time and stunt their development!

  12. Rastaferian Jenkins Says:

Hurt old bitch, scared to hit and changes teams more than my underoos. No thanks

  13. Anyhony Says:

Completely off topic: Does anyone know the name of the guy who announced the Tez Johnson pick (while trolling the packers fans)?

  14. Ancient Says:

Hard h3ll no pass. Like TB said above, noisy divisive kid is a cancer in the locker room. Nuh uh.

And (a proposed trade for him) would go completely against all that kumbaya character mumbo-jumbo he’s been spewing all over the off-season at OBP.

  15. FilthyAnimal Says:

    Joe Says:

    Is he an ass? Yeah.

Exact why he won’t be going to Tampa. They don’t wants assholes in the locker room, especially highly paid ones.

  16. Godlovesbucs Says:

Someone can be talented AND a cancer. A.B. is the most extreme and most relevant example. He absolutely made tampa better until he DIDNT. He was a huge part of winning the superbowl. He was also a huge part of not getting back to the superbowl the next year by leaving when and the way he did.

In fact, some of the best players have much more leeway to be cancers on their team, simply because many teams hold the mantra of “I will tolerate you until I can replace you”

  17. ToddBowles#1 Says:

    Joe Says:

“Got to an AFC championship with his first NFL team. Won a Super Bowl with his second NFL team.”

If he wants to get back there, he should stay away from Bowles.

We’ll never see those two games under the defensive “guru”.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Nope….S or MLB…..,

  19. Todd Says:

If Bucs can get Fins to give some cash considerations-Heck yeah you sign Jalen. Ramsey is a Top 5 CB in the NFL and you certainly do not have the opportunity very often to add a player of that caliber who is under contract for a while. Dean becomes very expendable with the addition of Ramsey.

  20. Beeej Says:

    The contract. Whoa

  21. SteveK Says:

    Hey Joe,

Can you please include a link to your WDAE segments? I follow the link to 95.3 and iHeart, but am unable to search for the segments. Their other stuff, sans Rock and the late great big dog, are not the same without you there and I only want to hear what you and Ira have to say lol.

Is there a way you all could ask for a recording of the segment snd patch it into podcasts at the end as a “bonus” listen? Hell, could WDAE get a clue and have the individual segments with you all attainable?

Cheers to you, cheers to football!

  22. Todd Says:

Only the last year of his contract is crazy money and we all know he likely will not be around 5 years from now. Ramsey is a “Hey our window of opportunity is WIDE OPEN” kind of signing.

  23. Paratrooper Buc Says:

To paraphrase your comment Joe: Ramsey is an ass who wins. Thats a good assessment. Antonio was a crazy ass who wins and got too crazy. Part of me feels bad he has bipolar, CTE or some combination of both. Back to Ramsey, he wants to win and will not be crazy but will he be affordable? I feel we are in an all in window this year. Defense needs all the help it can get.

  24. HopeIn1Hand… Says:

More than his age and character I’m considering price. He has a $24,235,000 cap number for 2025 and regardless of a split with the Dolphins that is just too much money to devote to a second high priced defensive FA.

Licht did his job and has Reddick at a good price. It’s not worth outbidding the Rams for Ramsey.

  25. Pickgrin Says:

Only if he gets released by the Dolphins – and could be signed to a reasonable contract would the Bucs have any interest in Jalen Ramsey….

NO TEAM is going to trade for Ramsey with that ridiculous contract the Dolphins signed him to….. ($105M over the next 4 years – including a $36.16M cap hit in 2028 when Ramsey is 34 years old).

Definitely NOT happening – and I have no clue why ANYone would think the Bucs would be interested….

  26. Jarrett Says:

Yall call every good player a cancer to the locker room LOL

Last time I checked we needed every yard from AB #84 to win a championship

They used to say Suh #93 was a dirty player remember that???

Last time I checked Ramsey was a Super Bowl champion

Stop building the roster around this whole “nice guy” image.

Every great nfl team needs some goons / loud mouth / attitude players

  27. Stanglassman Says:

This is so silly. This will not happen.

  28. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

I’m not opposed to this but I don’t want to give up quality draft capital to do it. Something similar to the jpp trade and I’d be down. Assuming his current contract isn’t absurd…

  29. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

After reading what his contract is, I wish to remove my comment.

  30. ElioT Says:

    No thanks.

  31. Gipper Says:

Trey Hendrickson is the trade we want.

  32. FilthyAnimal Says:

Yeah, regardless of your opinion on the wisdom of the idea, it just is not going to happen.

And, for what it’s worth, highly paid asshats are not usually worth the trouble. Why would the Dolphins want to unload him?

We have, by all accounts, a great locker room, a bunch of unselfish winners. Why eff with that?

Also, Ramsey didn’t make those teams he’s been on into winners. He had fortunate landings.

  33. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs don’t NEED Ramsey to make a Super Bowl run. We’ve got Dean, McCollum, Bryce Hall & Morrison to cover the outside, Izien & Parrish for Nickel, and Winfield, Tykee Smith & Merriweather for Safeties. Could see Bucs potentially picking up 1 more Safety before the season starts, but not spending huge amounts of money to do it.

Where I could see us spending some $$$ to improve is at ILB and DT/NT. One could help improve our ILB depth, and the other help improve our pass rush. We’ve got $32.6 mil in CAP space right now, and there’s a lot we could accomplish with that (after signing the rookie class of course).

Looking at the FAs available right now, don’t see much available that’d help us. However, as teams cut down to reach their 53, could well be a veteran or 2 available who could help us from a depth perspective. No rush.

  34. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Zero interest in this guy becoming a Buc.

  35. Buc1987 Says:

    What Gipper said.

    Go Bucs!

  36. Buccos Says:

I would definitely take a shot at him. Maybe the Phish will eat some of his contract. Proven winner

  37. WNCBucsFan Says:

He’s AN answer, but not THE answer. Pass.

  38. Obvious Says:

If it was for a fourth or fifth rounder I’d absolutely pull the trigger. If he’s a disaster in the LR you just cut him

  39. GoneGator Says:

I trust JL and Todd to figure it out !

Todd and Tampa – NFC south champs 3 years running 👍🏼

  40. geno711 Says:

At 27 million per season. No to Ramsey.

Trey Hendrickson at 33 million yes.

  41. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Geno

    Yup.

  42. Kieran Says:

He’s a great player but he is not a “Buccaneer Guy”
He simply doesn’t fit what the Bucs have built team wise or the respectful culture they have a One Bucs Place.

  43. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Our DB is set now since the draft.

Pass on Ramsey, we don’t need him now.

  44. Todd Says:

I believe i will leave it up to Jason Licht and Todd Bowles on whether he is a “Buc Guy”. One thing I KNOW he is-a top 5 CB in the NFL.

  45. BucEmUp Says:

Bowles needs to change his defense for anyone to be successful. Even if ge had the top 3 corners in the league playing 15 yards off there will always be someone open. Glad we added new talent hopefully he doesn’t waste it

  46. Jeff Says:

He’s no Buccaneer man. Hard pass.

  47. Kenton Smith Says:

MLB and DT. DR knows things. Everyone else knows things too. Just not as many.

  48. Jeffs grandpa Says:

    More fantasy land

  49. Hodad Says:

We just drafted 2 corners, and Smith is moving to safety. We’re good.

  50. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

    This is a big NO!!!
Drafted two corners. If we need any help its at linebacker.
I don’t care about his ability, age or attitude.
Talk to me about his contract and what the team would
give up in draft picks to get him.

    He cost too much.

  51. stpetebucsfan Says:

“shouldn’t the Bucs at least explore if Ramsey would consider playing for them?”

How do we know they haven’t. I “suspect” they did their due diligence before the draft. Like many here I believe Ramsey may have some gas left in the tank but he’s waay overpriced unless as Pickgrin says he gets cut and renegotiates a reasonable contract. The Rams want him so they’re going to offer more than what I’d like to see as another cap hit for the Bucs.

I hear the clamoring for Hendrickson and why not? But latest word out of Cincy though is that the Bengals are still working very hard to get an extension done.

  52. teacherman Says:

Every fan on here knows Wasup.

Joebucs fan comments have helped the Bucs.

  53. Pmike Says:

I think the biggest downside for Hendrickson is his cost and the precedent that edge rushers have set on the market price this year. That needs to chill a bit before we get a big name like him at edge.

  54. Todd Bowls Says:

This! Hard Pass on this one.

    “ToddBowles#1 Says:

    Hard pass.

Dude is a cancer in the locker room.”

  55. FilthyAnimal Says:

No one has offered an explanation — if Ramsey was worth the headaches then why are the Dolphins looking to unload him? The Bucs have less patience for d-baggery than most teams. What makes anyone think they’d make an exception while taking on a giant salary? Maybe some of you like to play fantasy GM and pretend this isn’t our actual team with our actual font office… because only in your fantasy does it make any sense to add Ramsey.

  56. Kgh4life Says:

    @Kalind

Moving Ramsey to safety is a great idea. Pair him with Winfield and keep Tykee at NB. The Bucs secondary would be tops in the NFL.

  57. BucsFan28 Says:

Ramsey and Winfield together at safety is fun to think about.

  58. Fred Says:

    Gotta get rid of Dean.

  59. NLK@boston Says:

no way in hell. old, injury prone, expensive, ego. attitude. not a bucs player.

  60. RVATom Says:

Antonio Brown was a Tom Brady tip of the hat. I’m sure if the Glasers said no it wouldn’t have happened. I’m sure Arians could have vetoed it. But Antonio Brown was to Brady like Shepard is to Mayfield.

If Bowles REALLY wanted Ramsey they would have gotten him vs Riddick. I don’t see them bringing in both a veteran end and a veteran corner. It’s not Lichts style. Cheap prove it guys, that’s it. Especially for the cost of Ramsey. Bowles got his veteran help. The D lines going to have to impact the QB and the corners aren’t going to be expected to hold on with the QB taking a casual stroll for pitch and catch in the backfield.

  61. Defense Rules Says:

Fred … ‘Gotta get rid of Dean’.

A comparison of Ramsey & Dean is kinda interesting Fred.

    o Ramsey: 6’1″ & 208 lbs, 4.41 sec 40 yd … 103 games in 7 yrs (14.7 games/year) … 18 INTs … average 58.4% Completions Allowed … 18 TDs allowed … Missed Tackle Rate – 7.1%.

    o Dean 6’1″ & 206 lbs, 4.30 sec 40 yd … 82 games in 6 yrs (13.7 games/year) … 8 INTs … average 58.7% Completions Allowed … 14 TDs allowed … Missed Tackle Rate – 4.9%.

Like I said, interesting comparison numbers Fred. Both are the identical same size, both very fast (at the Combine), both have essentially allowed the same percentage of completions, both have allowed essentially the same number of TDs per season.

Beyond that though, Ramsey is a bit more durable (14.7 vs 13.7 games/year average), Ramsey’s roughly twice as good at intercepting the ball (18 vs 8), Dean’s a little better at tackling (4.9% vs 7.1% missed tackle rate). And yes, the difference in salary is HUGE.

Jamel Dean is a lot better than most JBFers give him credit for. The big problem that I see relates to these past 2 years. His on-field performance has fallen quite a bit IMO. Example:
he had a 66.1% Completion Percentage Allowed in 2023, and that increased to 69.7% in 2024. I think it’s because he’s been playing hurt (he looks a lot slower to me, and that MIGHT be why he tends to play off so much). Something to watch this year though. If his speed is way down, I wouldn’t hesitate to stick in Bryce Hall or Benjamin Morrison to replace him. Slow outside CBs don’t cut it.

  62. RamblingRhino Says:

    No thanks…

  63. Stanglassman Says:

    Can he play off-ball linebacker?

  64. Brian in St Pete Says:

Now more than ever I say, absolutely not.

  65. Rod Munch Says:

Ramsey was at one time a top corner in the NFL, but he is washed up. If you don’t believe that, then tell me why the Dolphins would even consider trading him away – in particular when they have zero depth at corner.

Additionally, Miami has already told him he can seek a trade, and since no trade happened before the draft, it means no one was interested – which means he’s going to be released.

  66. Rod Munch Says:

Just for fun, I looked up Ramsey’s numbers of PFF. These are for entertainment purposes only, as it’s PFF, and should not be taken seriously.

Anywho, they have him ranked as the 16th best corner in the NFL, with a very good run defense grade (10th), and still above average with his coverage grade (39th).

That sounds like a player Bowles would love, a corner who can stop the run!

With that said, they say he had 14 missed tackles – WOW! That’s an insanely high number if true. Also says his allowed passer rating was 101st. So how in the world does that equal out to him being the 16th best corner? I guess we’ll never know. He did play a ton of snaps, 1027, and had the 4th most pass rush snaps as a corner – and lead in pressures with 12.

Overall those PFF numbers are ridiculous – half of them say he’s old and busted and washed up – and yet they rank him very extremely high anyways.

For more fun, I compared him to Dean…

Dean they have ranked 26th overall – with a 67th ranking for run defense, and 23rd for coverage. We all knows Bowles would rather have corners who can play the run than cover people, so Bowles is probably lobbying for a straight up Dean for Ramsey trade.

  67. Bakerfan Says:

Hendrickson or Parsons is the big splash you need.

  68. SlyPirate Says:

    Is Ramsey the 2025 AB?

An ultra-talented, prima donna, that puts the club over the top.

  69. JBBUCS_06 Says:

Let’s pass on Ramsey. Let’s go w/ Tykee at Safety with Izien and Merriweather as backups and use the $$ elsewhere (perhaps we’ll need an ILB if Deion Jones doesn’t work out). Dean and Zyon at CB with the rooks and Hall and Funderburke as emergency. IF, and I mean IF we need to make a mid-season “go get it” transaction, save $ for that as well.

  70. Larrd Says:

    No, Joe, they shouldn’t.

“Typing” does not equal “writing,” either. It is more akin to “transcribing.”

  71. CoachG66 Says:

It’s amazing how all of you talk about an elite talent that would immediately make us better. We have one of the worst secondaries in football. Dean is very overpaid and we can get out of his contract. He covers no one and can’t stay healthy. But if we say oh he’s gonna play all year this year which history says he will not we still have holes in the secondary. We blitz at a very high rate top 3 in the league and we don’t have the coverage pieces behind it when we don’t get home. Transition Jalen to safety and it adds severely years to his play and makes him elite. He will tackle and will become instantly one of the best if not the best cover safety in football. Maybe you all don’t remember us not being able to get off the field against the commanders. And why? Bc we could not cover a soul. Bring him in let’s go chase a ring. Oh he’s a cancer no he’s a winner yall
Bums didn’t even play on your JV team let alone D1 or in the league but quick to say someone you don’t know or never shared a locker room with is a cancer. You complain about Tom sending too many emails but this dude is a cancer lol. You meant to say winner and en elite player

  72. CoachG66 Says:

And FYI Tykee got picked on over and over in the playoffs. Go back and watch

  73. Jglazer Says:

Super Bowl run. Are you kidding me? Our defense was on of the worst in the league. We beat mediocre teams. Haven’t really competing anywhere near a top 4 team in the nfl. Yes we won our division. But our division is not good. Ill believe it when I see it. Another year of over hyping the bucs after the draft.

  74. Durango 95 Says:

Start by asking yourself that given what you know about the type of player that JL/CTB covet. Does j Ramsey fit that profile? To me, seems pretty unlikely.

  75. heyjude Says:

If the Bucs can get him, go for it. Other teams seem interested in him too, including the Rams. Their coach seems okay with him. There are rumblings going on in Miami, so it isn’t just him wanting to leave the team. Bucs may be a good fit for Jalen.

  76. orlbucfan Says:

Batty AB was a sop to TB12. Bucs would have won that SB without him. Ramsey? No, Licht has already taken a pass on that dude. Too much trouble and getting old.

  77. MelvinJunior Says:

Jalen Ramsey is absolutely NOT a “locker room CANCER.” Period. There is ZERO evidence of that. The ONLY thing HE wants to do is WIN. He just does not get along with McDaniels, & that is IT. And, do you blame HIM!? McDaniels cannot even SPELL “Defense.” Ramsey was just a ‘trash talker’ as a young STUD DB, & I like that, at his position, IF you can back-it up… And, oh, did HE EVER. What was it SIX Pro-Bowls, THREE 1st-Team ALL-PRO TEAMS, & a Super Bowl RING. Yeah, HE is well on his way to THE HOF 💯. And, another thing… HE wanted OUT of that disaster, that was JACKSONVILLE. Not the other way around. Also, I saw the interview with McVay about Ramsey, a little while back, as soon as it was made public that he was available again, and wanted out (another total disaster) of Miami. A coach the caliber of McVay would NOT have been ‘foaming at the mouth’ at the news, & wouldn’t be desperate at WANTING HIM back again, if he were some “Cancer” inside the locker room. So, PLEASE. Just STOP. The Bucs and JL should make the move. Period. Especially, if they can get Miami to eat some of the $ AND it is a deal that they can easily ‘move-on from’ if need be. There would be VERY little risk to it if any at all. But, THIS is ‘the move’ they should make, IF they are truly SERIOUS about making a Super Bowl run… And, IF they ‘miss-out’ on trading for bonafide pass rusher FIRST (Hendrickson is prob just way too much risk at his age, giving what all we’d have to give-up, PLUS the $/extension).

  78. Allbuccedup Says:

Trade the fish Jamal Dean a 2026 7th round pick and a box of rocks for Ramsey.
