Baker Mayfield > Jared Goff

May 11th, 2025

Three-time Pro Bowl guard Kyle Long, from football’s famous Long family, sees Baker Mayfield as an elite babysitter.

What does that mean in the football realm? For Long, a full-time CBS analyst, it’s a way of saying Mayfield is among the NFL’s elite quarterback. So him losing an offensive coordinator again is not as critical for the Bucs as it might be for other teams.

The Lions lost their stud playcaller and Long thinks Detroit will feel it a lot more than Tampa Bay will suffer from Liam “El Serpiente” Coen taking the Jaguars head coaching job.

“You have Baker Mayfield, bro. It’s like having a great babysitter,” Long said. “Like no matter where we go if we’ve got, you know, ‘Julie,’ Julie is going to take care of everybody. The kids are going to be safe, fed, the diapers are going to be changed. That’s Baker Mayfield, dude. As much fun as we think that Baker Mayfield is — and I want to go have margaritas with Baker — it’s like, ‘I want to be in the huddle with him.’ That’s what a leader looks like.

“I love [Lions QB] Jared Goff; I think he’s a really good quarterback and I think the Lions will be alright. But I’m way less concerned about Liam Coen leaving than I am [Detroit playcaller] Ben Johnson leaving. So, like I’m not going to give [Goff and the Lions] the same treatment as the Bucs. It’s a different quarterback.”

Long gave the Bucs an “A” grade for their offseason moves and did not openly disagree when his Pushing The Pile co-host Mike Renner, the longtime CBS analyst, said he believes the Bucs could be a 13- or 14-win team this season.

  2. ModHairKen Says:

Goff is great at throwing the ball into the dirt if the play is not there. They love him in Detroit. People love Campbell. He’s a feisty coach.

And they will never win anything.

Tampa is a legitimate SB contender this year. And next year. And the year after.

I love this site. The frequency of columns, and the active comment section with interesting debates and smart takes is a blast.
But the trolls? The trashing of Baker, Bowles and even the site’s writers is a spoiler of the rest of the site brings. At some point Ole Joe should consider blocking them.

“But the trolls? The trashing of Baker…”

    Well not so much trolls.

Mostly it’s just one guy that trolls under multiple identities.

    It’s his schtick.

  7. Larrd Says:

Baker needs to win a Super Bowl to be considered a top five guy. I do not think Goff would be considered that level if he won two Super Bowls.

How do you come to this conclusion?

Losing twice to Kirk Cousins, the Cowboys on MNF, and a rookie QB in round 1 while forcing zero punts makes you a pretender, not a contender.

The problem is the defense. And the DC that runs it.

In that case he’ll never be a top five guy. You have to actually get there to win one.

If I assert that Mayfield is a Super Bowl quality QB I mean that I think he can win one with this team. He won’t be the guy who prevents us from winning the Lombardi. Of course it’s just my opinion, not a fact. I believe he is capable enough because of his play with us the past couple of years.

    ———–

Meanwhile in his last two playoff games, he had the ball in his hand in the 4th quarter with the game on the line, and in Detroit with 2 mins left he immediately throws in an INT, then vs the Redskins, after the defense makes a huge 4th quarter goal line stand, he immediately fumbles the ball.

How about he actually shows up big in a big moment before you start talking about Super Bowls.

  20. Davyboy Says:

If “Faker” is sooo bad, why is it he has the highest playoff passer rating of all time, ALL TIME?? Think about it, since 2000, 516 NFL quarterbacks have come through the NFL and Faker has a far better passer rating than their average of 92.5. You haters say he’s not clutch in high pressure games. He’s a choker you few haters continue to say. His average rating in playoff games is 105.9. The average of the best 20 current quarterbacks and 4 superstar quarterbacks Brady, Manning, Montana and Elway is 95.2. So if thats the case, and it IS THE CASE, all your bad mouthing is so moronic and disingenuous. Baker at this point in his career IS the best playoff quarterback ever to play the game. Thats right, ever to play the game. When the NFL wants to know how good a quarterback is they look at their tried and true passer rating and Faker, Baker is the best when it comes to playoff time. Mayfield folds like a cheap tent, right ToddBowles#1?? Mindless fan boy and insanity meet? Who does the “simple math refute” #1?? “Goff at least gives his team a chance”?? Your comments are so egregious and misleading you should consider just stopping out of shame. 105.9 vs 92.5 I would take Baker Mayfield anytime during the week and twice on Sunday because the SIMPLE MATH DONT LIE #1. It’s all coming around…

  21. Pappabill Says:

    To that #Todd Bowles dude…..
Injuries hurt us last year and winning the Super Bowl is a team achievement not a QB achievement…Baker Mayfield is a top 5 QB now …he’s proven it…don’t claim ints either…10 of 16 came in victories and 5 of the remaining 6 came in the first half…..
    Yes I hate trolls…they should be blocked..forever

Don’t know why Baker seems to be so polarizing but he is. Some people just can’t appreciate his game. Defense Rules said last week that Baker is perfect for the Bucs and the Bucs are perfect for Baker. Let’s leave it at that and see if this team can improve enough to win a dang Super Bowl.

  27. ATLBuc Says:

our last two seasons has ended in baker turnovers, Our defense needs to be strong enough that a 4th quarter turnover won’t hurt us

  28. GoneGator Says:

Won’t argue with you Joe. As I’ve said many times before, you guys have the right to run YOUR website/blog any way you like.

I am familiar with Google adsense tho.

  29. LANshark Says:

ATLBuc – the fumble vs Washington is on McMillan, not Baker. Baker made exactly the right steps, put the ball exactly where it was supposed to be. McMillan was early to the mesh, then mishandled the ball. That’s not on Baker, though Baker took ‘credit’ for it because that’s just who he is.

Watch the tape with a coach’s eye – makes a big difference. You don’t want my analysis of the Detroit turnover either – Otten and Godwin were within 3 yards of each other… no play is ever designed that way. I think Otten was supposed to be in front of the LB, with Godwin behind. Again, watch the tape.

  30. GoneGator Says:

The entire franchise is on the rise thx to Baker, Todd, JL etc

If you don’t think Baker is capable – tough shlt, he’s our QB
If you think Todd is a pi$$poor coach – tough shlt, he’s our coach.

To those of you living in the past…. Let go.

We’ve been rebuilding, with more success than anyone expected, except for the simple minds that continue to search high and low for poo crumbs to sprinkle on our optimism.

Next year’s draft we solidify the last of our needs…. In the meantime = this season – we will field a much better team capable of beating anybody in the league on any given Sunday .

  31. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Rod Munch, you are a dope! WE have hashed that fumble against the “Skins” and the only one that was not the cause was Baker. Center of timing, the receiver of the handoff too early or too late. All Baker could do on the play is to not fumble the snap (done), turn around without falling (done), and put the ball in receiver’s gut (done). And then take the blame off the rookie (done). Dopes like you look at results and blame your favorite candidate to look smart.

  32. Fred McNeil Says:

Goff has improved quite a bit under Campbell. Him and Baker are comparable. If push came to shove I’d have to pick Baker.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

It’s amazing, I literally defended Baker saying people that think Goff is better than he is deserve to be in a nuthouse, but take issue with the morons talking about how he’s a Super Bowl winning QB (you know, since he’s literally NOT won a SB and collapsed in the 4th quarter of his last two playoff games), and I’m the bad guy?

Try winning something that matters, coming up big in a key situation, then get back to me about being clutch or big time. Baker has played great so far, at least when it doesn’t matter. Now he needs to come up in big time situations to earn that next big deal. Hopefully he can get it done. But dopes awarding him league MVP and SB rings when he’s won nothing of note, those people are just insane.

  40. Davyboy Says:

Only people that do not like Baker or don’t know how a jet sweep is properly run still talk about the fumble. D*** even NFL coaches say McMillan didnt run it right but as i said you know more than the NFL. You have constantly yapped about Baker being a choker and another 50 other negative comments that just werent true. I remember you saying he couldn’t run due to too slow and couldnt find the hole yet he ran for more first downs than ANYONE last year. Even more than Lamar Jackson.Lmao. I really dont think, when according to the NFL, you are the MOST CLUTCH quarterback of all time PERIOD you can simultaneously be a choker. 105.9 VS 92.5 is as far from a choker as you can get. But that’s all right because ol’ Baker is just going to keep getting better and better and there is nothing you can do about it. He has been making people like you eat their words his whole life so settle down, drink a beer and get used to it. Like me going to the trouble to provide you with a list of anything Baker Mayfield will get you to tell the truth. What a joke 😃 But you can bet he has a long list in fact I’ll be stupid and play along with 3 easy ones that come to mind. 1-his first NFL game at Cleveland, you know that team that was 1-31 when he showed up. They were I think 2 touchdowns down from Tyrod Taylor playing the first half. As a Rookie came in and kicked a** and won it. 2-went to the Rams with 48 hours to study the incredibly complicated playbook and came in on the 2 yard line, 98 yards away with something like 1:30 left. Took charge and led the furthest drive in that amount of time left and broke the record throwin a dime to Van Jefferson for the game winning touchdown 3-he did it at Kansas city this year but they wouldn’t throw for 2. Yeah that’s Baker. He has done many more and you can find them on the NFl stat website. Just sayin…

  41. Davyboy Says:

He said he fumbled it because that’s the kind of leader he is 🤔 he would never blame a rookie but you can’t conceive of someone being that good, Baker is Im sorry you can’t see it .

  43. Aqualung Says:

Well….Baker putting blame on himself is what a real Leader does.

Something that neither the defensive coordinator or the head coach (same guy) has ever done.

  44. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Until Bowles gets the defense to play the way they did against Detroit last year we are not Super Bowl contenders. Even averaging almost 30 points a game the offense still couldn’t cover for the defense.
Going into last year I was very skeptical of Baker after how he performed the previous year. Those great stats he had that his fans always toted as something great were nothing but smoke and mirrors because he disappeared in too too many games. He was instrumental in the loss in the playoffs. Last year was a whole different story and if it wasn’t for the defense we would’ve won more games. He balled out even though he turned the ball over more. That turnover against Washington was on both of them.

This year still not sure because of the defense, who our DC is and Liam was a huge loss. We’ll see if Baker is the one who made it all happen like his hardcore fans would have you believe. At least I feel better going into this season because he finally got that monkey “NO 2 GOOD SEASONS IN A ROW” off his back

Now the rest of the team needs to make sure they are not in that position again.

The amazing thing is, you few find out you have a quarterback that plays better when it matters most, than any other quarterback in the history of the game but all you can do is keep spreading half truths and complain. You cannot even say, dude im glad we have a quarterback that is that clutch, that will come in handy when the defense is equal to the offense. There is no hope for you people. COMPLAIN ON!!!!

  52. Defense Rules Says:

ModHairKen … ‘The Defense will be dramatically better.’

No one hopes you’re right Ken more than I do. I’m convinced that we can contend for the Super Bowl this year IF BOTH our offense AND defense can play consistently good football AND rank in the Top-10 (Points). Depth is the critical key IMO, and our offense has much better depth than our defense does, at the present time. Key will become how quickly we can improve the quality of our depth through player development. That’s still to be determined. Interestingly, we had 17 offensive players who got less than 40% off snaps.

Typically we’ll carry 25 offense, 25 defense, and 3 S/Ts. Our offense has had as many as 7 players get 100% snaps in some past games (5 OLinemen, QB and 1 TE). Players like Evans & Godwin often get 70%-80% offensive snaps. Offensively we had 7 players who got 70% or more off snaps last season, plus another 5 players who got 40%-70%.

Not so with the defense because we need a lot of rotation to keep certain position groups fresh (DLine & OLBs in particular). Go back through last year’s games and very often our Secondary players came close to 100% snaps in particular games UNLESS someone got hurt (or really sucked & got replaced). Defensively we only had 3 players who got 70% or more def snaps, plus another 11 players 40%-70%. Interestingly, we had 21 defensive players who got less than 40% def snaps (tons of fill-ins).

So on offense we had 12 players who got more than 40% offensive snaps, while on defense we had 14 players who got more than 40% defensive snaps last year. 26 players total … Half the team. That’s our starters plus key rotational players.
The rest were our depth, and that depth is critical. Especially during years of high injuries like last year. Everyone always says ‘Next man up’, but that has to be a HUGE challenge for coaching to have to get so many 2nd & 3rd stringers ready to start each week.

My big hope this year is that the injury bug disappears. You & I Ken could both name the 3 key players who we can least afford to lose this year.

  53. Kenton Smith Says:

Thanks DR, for getting this conversation centered up again. Sometimes reading my favorite reporters I screw up and read the comments too. Then I feel retaliation is warranted. Alot to be said for keeping an even keel. Team, good fortune, and hard work. I’m hoping we’re good enough that we can lose any of our key players and still be great. But I’d hate to lose LaVonte, Vea, or Winfield again. Because you’re right, I think we need some more depth. Especially in the middle of this defense.

  54. Rod Munch Says:

    Davyboy Says:
dude im glad we have a quarterback that is that clutch

    ———

And yet I asked for some examples of him being clutch in big situations, and you can’t give even one of them – and yet you’re talking about him like he’s Tom Brady. Wait, no, better than Tom Brady.

The last playoff game, he’s at home, has a 4th quarter lead, and blows the game. Before that, on the road, he’s got the ball in his hand with 2 minutes to go and the game on the line, and immediately throws in an INT. That isn’t clutch. In fact that is the opposite of clutch. A huge reason Licht drafted a WR in the 1st round is to try to put even more talent around Baker in hopes that next time will be different. I hope it works and Baker can finally get over the hump and come up big in a big moment, then he’ll earn himself a new contract. But if he doesn’t, one thing is for sure, every Baker Boi will be here with more excuses about why Baker is the victim and everyone is against him.

  55. Rod Munch Says:

Defense Rules – I still contend a huge issue with the defense is the play calling, and nothing will change on that side of the ball if the Bucs again lead the NFL in zone again. Hopefully drafting the two corners means Bowles is going to get back to what he won a Super Bowl with, and that is being an aggressive defense with some attitude, instead of this trash mostly zone defense where guys just stand around waiting for something to happen. My hopes are pinned on that comment early in the offseason where Bowles said you had to change things up every few years – and it’s been 3 years of mostly awful zone defense. It’s impossible for me to believe that coaches watch the film each week and think, yeah, we need more of this – yet it continues week after week. If there is any hope of a turnaround, it will come with a more aggressive scheme. If Bowles isn’t going to do that, then it’s going to be back on the shoulders of the offense to win the games single handedly.

  56. Defense Rules Says:

Rod … ‘nothing will change on that side of the ball if the Bucs again lead the NFL in zone again’.

Agree 100% Rod. I’ve come to the conclusion that Todd plays a ton of zone because he blitzes so danged much. Cut down appreciably on the blitzing and we could use man a lot more.

  57. Kenton Smith Says:

Rod. I contend you know very little about football. 2nd and 3rd string defensive backs ( and defensive backfields!) don’t play zone or man to man nearly as well as starters with more talent and experience. Baker year 1. Won 5 of last 6 including the best game by visiting QB in Lambeau history. Baker year 2. Won 6 of last 7 including on the road at Chargers. That’s 13 super clutch games. Baker was behind by 8 points second playoff game first year. Why? He’d already flung 3 TD passes to tie it in the 4th. Defense let Goff totally control the 4th quarter. So Baker is supposed to score 8 points at the end when the receivers are running into each other? Lost his second year in the first round by having the highest QB rating in NFL playoff history? You a funny guy Rod Munch. We’ve got the best clutch QB in the league.

  58. Defense Rules Says:

Kenton … My 3 key players are Vea, LVD and Baker. Lose any 1 of the 3 and we’ll struggle. Bucs don’t have the high quality depth behind any of the 3 of them to readily compensate. We’d end up adjusting our game plans in major ways, and the result more than likely wouldn’t be pretty.

  59. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Rod

A hypothetical for you. If you were a coach of any team, virtually in any sport, would you scheme and call plays differently depending on the talent on that team.

A real life example. Todd Bowles was the DC of the Super Bowl winning Bucs.
Did he have the same talent when they won that SB? Was it easier to trot out JPP, Suh, LVD, DW45 playing his best football, Vea, Winfield and the rest?

Did he play the same D then as he was FORCED to play during the rebuild.

From the Bucs own site….Up front, Bowles and his players went with the same philosophy they had when they met Mahomes the first time: hold off on sending extra pass-rushers because the Chiefs’ star quarterback has historically dominated against the blitz.

In fact, the Buccaneers took this philosophy to the extreme in the Super Bowl. While Bowles did dial up some creative rushes with corners or safeties coming at Mahomes, they weren’t necessarily blitzes as some front-line defenders would drop into coverage. Here we’re defining a blitz as a drop-back on which five or more defenders come after the quarterback. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, the Buccaneers only brought extra rushers at Mahomes on five of his 52 dropbacks, or 9.6%.

Wonder why he changed? I wouldn’t bother with this tidbit for most but I respect you enough to figure it out.

  60. Kenton Smith Says:

Rod besides Bakers late season heroics how about opening his very first season, with a team in turmoil, as evidenced by the previous years Brady slaughter against the Cowboys in the playoffs, smoking Cousins and the Vikings at Minnesota? Or his second season smoking the Commanders, Lions, and Eagles early in the season. Just so you don’t say we only beat the weak teams. Yeah Rod, I don’t know what you know. But I certainly know what you don’t know. And that would be the game of football.

  61. BucaneroJim Says:

    DR,

Did we get someone like Suh to help VV pressure the QB? Bowels may have blitzed a lot because of the lack of front 4 and edge pressure. Again, playing zone may have been a lack of skilled healthy players… and/or no pressure on the QB. Did we draft or bring in a new Suh?… doesn’t seem so. Can Watson lose 90 lbs and become a beast… doesn’t seem so, but love to be surprised. Hopefully, the new edge changes will help.

  62. Jmarkbuc Says:

The Chiefs were down both their starring tackles in the SB. Does that factor?

  63. Ex Browns Fan Says:

    Excellent post
But it was not a rebuild. It was a reload.

  64. Oneilbuc Says:

Davy. Dan Marino made it to the Superbowl his second year in the league. But at the same time I want championships not just make it to the playoffs and lose in the first or second round. Baker Mayfield has a good team around him it’s no more excuses or less our defense is ranked 30 or 32 . He has a good running game, good o line, and good receivers and he’s not asked to throw 45 times a game up the field. Jamies was held at a much higher standard with a 32 ranked defense and no running game and not to mention the NFC south was the best division in football the years we had Jamies and no one gave him the no running game, o line, or defense excuse that y’all give Baker Mayfield. It was never the coaches fault that Jamies was asked to throw 45 to 50 times a game and a lot of his throws were 10 yards or more. Baker Mayfield has everything and he’s playing in a trash NFC south division. So no more excuses for Baker Mayfield it’s NFC Championship or bust!!

  65. Aqualung Says:

And Jameis has proven to be a franchise QB since he left the Bucs. Really tore it up so much the Saints let him go, Payton didn’t pick him up in Denver, he showed his usual generosity to the defense in Cleveland, and now he’s a NY Giant. I hope he gets his head straight about his interceptions. But reality demonstrates it ain’t gonna happen. Best Jameis can hope for is to have a Fitzmagic type of finish to his career. So far, though, he’s got the Fitz but no magic.

In blunt terms, Jameis has never matured on the football field. That’s not on any ex Bucs coach, that’s on Jameis.

  66. Davyboy Says:

Rod, I gave you 3 and you say I gave you nothing. You are insane, you littlerly are insane. Where did you escape from?
Baker has the all time best passer rating in the playoffs which makes him Mr. Clutch. LMAO!!!!! I’m sooo glad Tampa Bay has a quarterback that owns the best quarterback play in history. I can’t wait to see what kind of a multimillion dollar contract he gets. ITS GOING TO BE GREAT.
Rod I hope you can evade the authorities, I sure wouldn’t want to go back to the insane asylum either, good luck buddy. 🤢

  67. LANshark Says:

    @Rod Munch,

I am the son of a football coach who won over 300 games, and 9 (yes 9) National Championships in DIII. My brother was a head coach and offensive coordinator with over 100 wins. I have been coaching at various levels for more than 10 years, including 8-0-1 two seasons ago and 9-0 last season. I’ve probably watched more football games and film than you can conceive of. I’ve analyzed the film of those plays numerous times.

No game is won or lost by one player, ever. IF McMillen ran the play as it was designed, it’s not a fumble. But good leaders (and Baker is one of the best) don’t throw their rookie receiver under the bus. And in the Detroit game, if Otten is in FRONT of the linebacker as the play is designed (it’s designed to make the LB choose between covering Otten in front, or Godwin behind) then the play works. The only way to SCREW it up is if the TE (Otten) and the Slot (Godwin) are NOT separated by 5-7 yards. The play is designed to force a choice, but Otten’s route gave that away.

As for clutch games, I believe numerous people have given you some examples, including the Jets/Browns game as a rookie, the OhioState/Okla game in college, the Cincy/Browns game, the Pitts/Browns playoff game, the Philly/TB Playoff game, the GB/TB game where he had a perfect QB rating, and I’m sure I can pull our more if I thought about it. He’s a winner, whether you like it or now. He’s NOT a miracle worker, and he cannot win games by himself. Fortunately, he does not have to.

  68. LANshark Says:

Oh, and I forgot the Texas Tech/Okla game where he outplayed Patrick Mahomes and threw for over 6 TDs in one game.

  69. Kenton Smith Says:

Rod, you need to drop that Commanders game and focus on the future. It’s a team game and the Commanders were a better team that night offensively, defensively, and we got outcoached to boot. We’d have beaten them most nights. Meanwhile, this organization keeps working on getting better. As a team. Good stuff.

  70. Davyboy Says:

Thank you LANshark, truth hurts but trust me, it sailed right over Old Munchers head at 30,000 feet. He’s on the lam you know and the poor guy cant see reality. I wish the poor guy the best. I hope the Hospital never catches up with him.
Meanwhile, back in reality, Baker is getting set for the deepest run of his career. And we all know, but some can’t see, he gives us the best chance in the playoffs to win. 105.9 passer rating vs. 92.5. I mean can you imagine playing that much better than all the others when the pressure is on. When it comes to the playoffs Baker Baker head coach maker gives us the best chance in history to win. 🥳

  71. Davyboy Says:

In that game they threw for 1758 yards. Still is the college record for most passing yards in a single game and who came out on top of that record breaking game? Was it Mahomes? Oh no it was Baker. Just for the record Baker has 10 4th quarter come backs and 12 game winning drives, just for the record. When some people are jealous they like to throw rocks at shiny things. 🙄 poor 😢 old muncher. I was wrong about Clevelands record before Baker arrived it was 2-41. And onei, I was talking about “WINNING” a superbowl not going to one. Pay attention guys

  72. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Landmark, no need to explain yourself to the drama queens here. They know who they are. I completely agree with your assessment of that mayfield handoff that wasn’t in last years final game. Baker took one ‘for the team’, so to speak, a couple of times recently. That’s a lost art these days in its an all about me classless world.

  73. BucU Says:

Plenty of optimism coming into this season especially IF AW3 and Sir Dennis are completely healthy when training camp starts. I’ve read virtually nothing on their status so far this offseason. Is it safe to assume they’re both going to be 100% by training camp?

  74. stpetebucsfan Says:

    LANshark

THAT WAS SUPERB. You encapsulated everything I’ve felt but lacked your ability and experience to articulate!

I’ll look forward to your posts in the future!!!

  75. Fan of the South Says:

Goff has been in two NFC Championship Games and led his team to a win in one of them. Baring a great play by one of the McCorty boys robbing the Rams of a sure TD the Rams probably win that game. Had the Lions D not melted down in the second half Detroit wins that game and Goof has two Super Bowl appearances.
Maybe Stafford finds his way to the Bucs or never leaves Detroit continuing to bleed them dry year after year.

Johnson didn’t take all the copies of the Playbook with him and the new OC has film and pretty much the entire offense returning. Lions Offense is going to be just fine. Defense might be a little sluggish starting out but they have a great cast and will also be fine.

Mayfield does have an advantage dealing with new OC’s but then he has been doing it since College. In college he was not going to start and left to go to Oklahoma and College football changed transfer rules to allow him play right away. At the Panthers he got benched and asked to be released and went to the Rams. Two Career Division appearances by beating a turnover crazy Big Ben on one leg and a Dismal Eagles team is far from spectacular. I’d take Goff any day of the week. If the Bucs OC continues to keep it simple for Mayfield the Bucs will continue to win.
Will it be enough to get 11+ wins? Start finding out in September and will know for sure by January.

  76. JD Still Says:

Is Mayfield elite or not? Both camps make valid points but the only way he will ever be considered a Super Bowl quality Quarterback is to win a Superbowl, then he will be set for his career, look at Joe Namath, a legend because he guaranteed a Super Bowl win and followed through on it , even though he never again got close , he was set. On the other hand look at all the pretenders who are supposed to be “elite Super Bowl quality Quarterbacks but have never followed through , ( there’s a lot of them all over the league , and one of them , up until now, is Mayfield). Nothing succeeds like success.

  77. lambchop Says:

Rod Munch lets his love fest of an ex-QB cloud his judgement. Every mistake Jameis made was excused away by Munchy McNuts. Bro, everyone knows your schtick. It’s old.

  78. Davyboy Says:

JD, I would have to argue that when you have the highest playoff passer rating of all time, in the history of the sport, by 13 points, YOU ARE ELITE. #1

  79. Oneilbuc Says:

Davy. All of that don’t nothing Baker Mayfield is not a elite quarterback. Elite quarterbacks don’t play for 4 different teams in 5 years!! We will see this year in the playoffs. Say it with me NFC Championship or bust he has everything on offense and a elite quarterback will find ways to win. The only way he gets a excuse this year is if the defense is ranked 30 or 32. The bucs went 9-7 in 2016 with a 26 ranked defense and no running game trash o line and with 1 elite receiver . If Baker Mayfield needs the 02 bucs defense to win a Superbowl now days then he’s not the right quarterback.

  80. JD Still Says:

Nobody remembers any of the guys who almost made it to the top of Mt Everest, only the ones who made it to the pinnacle are remembered as truly “elite” mountain climbers.
