Combined Record Of Bucs’ Remaining Opponents Jumps To 22-45

November 11th, 2024

The table is set beautifully for a Buccaneers revival this season.

If not, well, head coach shopping for Christmas will be in order.

At 4-6, the Bucs just entered a well-needed bye week that will be followed by a seven-game stretch to close the season. The remaining Tampa Bay opponents have a combined record of 22-45.

That’s right, 22-45.

The Bucs will be favored to win their next three games Giants (2-8), Panthers (3-7) and Raiders (2-7).

After that, it’s a trip to the Chargers (6-3) and their brutally tough defense followed by home games against three times likely to be tanking for the draft. Those are the Cowboys (3-6) without Dak Prescott, the slimy Saints (3-7) and Carolina.

Joe realizes this reality angers the-Bucs-suck-so-blow-up-the-team crowd. But it’s the straight facts of the schedule. Deal with it.

The Bucs passed the tough test of their early-season schedule and failed the next stretch. Now it’s time for the final grading period.

Joe can’t find a legit excuse in the world why this Bucs team can’t succeed in their final seven games.

As for head coach shopping, the cold reality of the NFL says Team Glazer likely starts the early stages of that process this week. No quality ownership group sits down for a meeting in January, orders Uber Eats and first says, “So what might be a fit?”

The Bill Belichick rumblings feel real and cynical Joe has to think Jon Gruden was a guest of Team Glazer yesterday for more than just hugs, memories and holiday-season spirit.

Sorry, but the last 7 games vs a scrub schedule shouldn’t dictate anything. Glazers and Licht should’ve been able to see all they’ve needed to see by now. Pissing BA off should be irrelevant at this point too.

  2. Bucfan Says:

Bottom line the Bucs will win enough games against loser teams so the Glaziers will bring him back again. Glad I did NOT keep my season tickets. A real laugher is I received an email Bucs announcing they are accepting deposits for Season Passes for next year. HA HA HA HA HA Never again will I buy a ticket to see a game with Todd the dud running the show.

  3. Bucsfan Says:

I truly believe Bill Belichick would love to have the Tampa HC gig. Bill would also demand total and complete unfettered control of the organizational structure and all decision making.
Don’t think Belicheat would demand total control like that — because no good team is going to give it to him.–Joe

  4. SlyPirate Says:

2ND WORST DEFENSE IN THE NFL
    (points allowed)

Only Canales is worse. Bowles will make these teams look like contenders.

  5. Rick Says:

We still have Bowels though, so all toss ups.

  6. Stillabucsfan Says:

Tkras said we can go 7-0 after the bye. I dont think the defense will have enough juice for us to even finish 5-2 after the bye.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Ten wins may not get it done…..Arizona, Phil, Det Minn, Packers, Lions, SF, Atl

there are 8 teams that will win their division or likely have 10 wins

  8. OrlandoBucFan Says:

I am afraid that with all the injuries, we may not be much better than the sorry teams we’ll be playing. If we have an advantage, it’s that we have a good quarterback and good running backs. Our defense is terrible and will probably make any opposing offense look better than they are in reality.

  9. ChattBucsFan Says:

Can’t find a legit excuse why they can’t succeed? Have you been watching this defense? This team will finish no better than 7 wins. Should also fire Bowles now and promote Coen to HC rather than wait for the inevitable.

  10. Bucsfan Says:

Are we a good team? The jury is still out.

  11. Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

“”Joe can’t find a legit excuse in the world why this Bucs team can’t succeed in their final seven games.””
I will give you your legit excuse….Todd Bowles.

  12. garbs65 Says:

I have to agree with SlyPirate above. If the Bucs have shown one consistent trait…it’s that teams correct all their issues when playing our defense. And this defense is bad. Seriously, every week our opponents have record outings. I want to be positive…but even if we do sneak into the playoffs, who are we going to beat? It would take a total 180 turnaround by this defense. Probably not happening.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Forgot to add Redskins….so , 9 teams…..we do have tie breakers against Redskins, Eagles & Lions

  14. Buchen61 Says:

The propaganda to minimize the damage thats already been propagated by this head coach and his horrific defense is nothing short of scandalous. Why wait when the inevitable is so painfully clear. Expecting to repeat last years odds defying finish is Ludacris. Please quit pissing on me and telling me its raining. Aint buying the bullcrap thats being sold!

  15. pewter941 Says:

We can run the table, but will we?

  16. A Bucs Fan Says:

The only way the Bucs make the playoffs is the offense. Even with all the injuries it is possible because over the last seven games the Bucs face 5 of the bottom 6 rushing defenses in the league. Bucky, Rachaad, and hopefully Tucker are about to eat big time. Look for shorter games and long drives.

  17. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

Please don’t wish for some old used up coach to be the savior. Find a new innovative mind. And just because Coen is having a good first year, that doesn’t always mean he’ll make a good head coach. Example… Eric Bienemy.

  18. VOT Says:

Common sense will likely prevail – you can’t be a defensive minded head coach and be the worst defense in the league – he has been in charge of that side of the ball for FIVE YEARS….no need to give it any more time, he is what he is – ready for retirement

  19. al Says:

The panthers are on a 2 game winning streek, they will be favored over the bucs. Time to accept that everyone was right of how bad the bucs would be this year (except for the JL loving Joe-Joes)

  20. Defense Rules Says:

‘The Bill Belichick rumblings feel real and cynical Joe has to think Jon Gruden was a guest of Team Glazer yesterday for more than just hugs, memories and holiday-season spirit.’

OMG Joe, PLEASE don’t ever pursue either one of those options again. Belicheck is done, finito. And Gruden, the offensive wonder-kid, averaged a #18 ranking with his offenses while he was here. Without Monte running our Top-10 defense all those years, Chucky was a disaster.

  21. drdneastup Says:

They could finish 11-6 and they still need a new head coach who can beat the Chiefs and the 49ers. You aren’t getting by teams like that on the way to the SB or are you playing for the set of steak knives.

  22. Cobraboy Says:

The irony lost on many “we can still do this” loyal Buc fans are all those teams see the Bucs as a possible “easy” win, too.

I see little celebration in beating up on the weak sisters, losing to the decent teams, backing into the playoffs, and getting drubbed badly in the Wild Card game. Does anyone really think this D will suddenly turn around?

Thing is, a playoff game also means Bowles gets another season of stoic, hard-headed “leadership.” Is that what fans really want?

If it weren’t for Coen, this team would be as pathetic as those in the next bunch the Bucs face.

  23. Defense Rules Says:

IF we heal up during this next 2 weeks, and IF we get Evans & Dean & McMillan back, then I think Bucs have a chance to finish 10-7 (more likely 9-8). Will that be enough for the playoffs? Not unless Atlanta blows it (again) and finishes with a worse record.

Would we go anywhere in the playoffs? Heavens no. We’ve already shown what happens when we play teams with winning records.

Would the Glazers retain Bowles as HC if we go 10-7? More than likely yes. Our defense SHOULD improve over these next 7 games, probably moving from a (current) #28 ranking to a (end season) #20 ranking. Our offense in the meantime will probably fall from a (current) #5 ranking to a (end season) #10 ranking (without Godwin & Wirfs for a period of time).

Will they retain him as DC? More than likely no. His defense requires uber-talented players at most positions to succeed (personally I think most 3-4 defenses do). With some significant ‘fixing’ of this defense, Bucs could compete next year for the Super Bowl. I don’t think Todd’s the one though to make those ‘significant fixes’ IF they retain him as HC. IF they don’t, it’s irrelevant anyways; he won’t be our DC in that case.

  24. QBKilla Says:

We’ll win 4 or 5 more games, miss the playoffs and pick later in the draft. Yay

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    DR

3 of our 4 wins are against teams with winning records

  26. D Cone Says:

Based on just the numbers Bucs opponent have just over a 32% chance of winning, About the NFL average for a 2 point conversion.

Fans can be about as certain the Bucs would make the 2 against the Chiefs as they run the table on these lesser teams.

Regardless of circumstance in 10 weeks time the Bucs are only 2 wins better than the Raiders and 1 win against both the Panthers and Saints.

  27. Ol' Boy Says:

Yeah. I’d rather have the new head coach, DC, and first crack at a top shelf pass rusher or LB in the draft than the possible wins against the remaining schedule of bottom feeder teams. Other than the chargers. As it is currently, winning the upcoming games is a loss. With a new head coach then we get meaning back. That time becomes valuable. Giving the rookies field time under fire is meaningful as well.

Light the fuse. I think you are right about Gruden also.

  28. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Tampabaybucfan – its not who you play it’s WHEN you play them. Bucs faced Jayden Daniels during his first NFL game. They beat the Lions because Ben Johnson made Goff throw 55 times instead of handing off to Gibbs and they beat the Eagles who were without Devonta Smith, AJ Brown, and Lane Johnson.

    Bucs are a middling team.

  29. Conte Piscatelli Says:

This team will likely lose two of those games we should win. After winning a game we often play a dud against a team we are favored against.

  30. Orange Republic Says:

Bowles & Co will be back absent at complete collapse down the stretch. Any coach on the Competition Committee does not got pushed aside after a plague of injury bugs.

Interesting take on Chucky. Maybe nothing more than he has become an independent media persona with a growing audience. Best keep those people on your side….especially when they understand the inside workings of your business.

  31. SBucs Says:

If (and it’s a big if) the Bucs win the next seven games it will be smoke and mirrors. The Glazers will make a decision on the coaching staff based on a business decision. If enough ‘fans’ scream loud enough the Todd experiment will be over. Or so we hope.

  32. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

This defense will make it seem like they’re
45-22 ruff said to Bonehead Blowles who doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with his scheme

  33. DoooshLaRue Says:

A TOTALLY MEANINGLESS stat when talking about the Bucs.

I’d say even more MEANINGLESS than preseason games Joe.

  34. heyjude Says:

If the Bucs turn this around, Bowles isn’t going anywhere. However, if we want to dream… What about Steve Spagnuolo for head coach?

  35. View from 132 Says:

If you own a team, wouldn’t you look critically at how the team played vs the good teams, not the draft tanking teams?

    Lions and Ex-Skins, wins.
Ravens, Chefs, 49ers, Atlanta twice… losses.

Nothing to be learned from beating the Raiders at this point.

  36. Dave Pear Says:

Let’s face it. With Lovie at the helm, Bucs can lose them all.

  37. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

    It’s all Bakers fault😂

  38. Hodad Says:

Combined record of the teams remaining are under .500. The problem tho is the Bucs are also a below .500 team. We’ll be lucky to go 3-4 the rest of the way. It’s the sad truth my friends time to accept the fact we’ll be lucky to beat any team the rest of the season. I have more of a chance winning the lottery then the Bucs do winning the rest of their games.

  39. TheMightyVH Says:

Two reasons we dont make the playoffs and why Bucs are sitting at 4-6 and not 6-4 or better… and injuries isn’t one of them.

    1) Playing capt obvious – defense is horrid and scheme sucks. How do you throw the kitchen sink at Lamar Jackson and attempt to play coverage against a one-legged QB coming off an achilles injury… TWICE! And Kirky scorched Bowles’s D. Why are BUCS constantly having corners play 8 to 10 yards off WR? How is it our BEST pass rusher is 350 lb Vita Vea? This defense cant get off the field when it matters the most. PERIOD. Bucs did when it counted against Detroit. But that’s it.

    2) Bowles plays “not to lose rather than playing to win.” He did it for the 2nd game in a row. Under 2 minutes and ball at the SF 7 and its run, run and throw to goal line. NOT ONE PASS THROWN in endzone. PLAYING NOT TO LOSE RATHER THAN PLAYING TO WIN!

I feel for Baker and the offense. Dude is playing like an MVP and the defense keeps failing him. Bowles keeps failing him.

Will be interesting to see how Bucs respond post-bye with that soft schedule. But I DO NOT TRUST Bowles and that defense.

  40. Biggun Says:

I’m good with Bill or Jon if they replace Todd. We just need to keep Liam in place and go after a young talented DC so priority 1 is Liam get him signed to multiple year contract.

  41. Saskbucs Says:

Fact is, we have the horses to be a contender. That can be disputed with our injuries but despite this… we have beaten 1 other legit contender in the past 2 years. That’s the only indictment of Bowles needed. We beat the Lions this year. Eagles don’t count last season, and I don’t think they count this year. KC, Bal, Buf, SF and Detroit.

1-9 vs those 5 teams who are cream of the NFL crop. Most of those losses are due to losing the coaching battle due to gameplan, in game adjustments, conservative play calling. Unacceptable. This team even with the injuries should be 6-4, some of that can be laid at the feet of the refs. Coach is a problem.
