Bucs Elevate Quarterback Michael Pratt

November 30th, 2024

Bumped up.

Joe has only one word to describe this transaction: Intrigue.

Did Baker Mayfield have a mysterious injury this week? Kyle Trask?

It just seems weird to Joe why the team would pull up a practice squad quarterback just to hold a clipboard when the roster spot could be used on a position player — at worst as part of the special teams.

But this is exactly what the Bucs did today when Michael Pratt, effectively the Bucs’ No. 3 quarterback, was pulled up from the practice squad and elevated for tomorrow’s game at Charlotte against the Stinking Panthers.

Weird. Transactions aren’t made for s(p)its and giggles. Does Mayfield have the flu? Trask?

Additionally, the Bucs downgraded outside linebacker Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to out with a bum ankle. He didn’t make the trip to Charlotte.

Tomorrow’s game at Charlotte against the Dixie Chicks?
Ya’ll are drunk again, aren’t you?
    Lolll!

  2. ATLBUC Says:

    According to Bing AI
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers elevated Michael Pratt due to injuries to their starting quarterback Baker Mayfield and backup Kyle Trask. Mayfield is dealing with a shoulder injury, while Trask has a knee injury. These injuries left the team short on healthy quarterbacks, prompting the move to bring Pratt up from the practice squad1.

  3. SB~LV Says:

Perhaps he was about to be claimed by another team

  4. Hawk Says:

Trask is a free agent at the end of the year, and this game ‘might’ be a game where the ‘backup’ gets some reps in the 4th qtr.

  5. Dave Pear Says:

Everyone knows why. #2 is number three

Careful using artificial intelligence for NFL info.

Could very easily get fake news.

  8. David Says:

Probably precautionary because Mayfield is not 100%. I forget what it was. And I think Trask has a knee issue.

  9. Tye Says:

This team is ran by one of the leagues worst HC so, there might not be any logic to this move… doesn’t shock or surprise me!

  10. Fred McNeil Says:

I do tots of crossword puzzles. Sometimes when I have to fish for an answer. Whatever google uses for a AI is usually the top answer. It as almost never right. I’ve never seen Bing AI. It could hardly be any more useless than Google.

  11. Cobraboy Says:

Maybe another team was sniffing around.

I suspect Trask is gone this offseason, and Pratt will be the #2 going forward.

    IF Coen is the OC.

  13. A Bucs Fan Says:

Don’t know anything about Trask at this point, but Baker has a stinger… He could be experiencing some weakness in his arm for the next couple weeks as he heals. Gonna have to watch his velocity and accuracy Sunday.

  14. Brian in St Pete Says:

Usually this has to do with another team sniffing around at your player. I wouldn’t read too much into it. Probably just protecting him.

  15. StickinUp4Centers Says:

My knees get stiff from sitting too long like Trask does on the bench all game!

  16. GoneGator Says:

Getting ready to bench that short, middling, inaccurate, loser Baker

  17. PbnJ Says:

Coen may have some packages for Pratt? Things they’d rather sacrifice Pratt to do before Mayfield. Pratt doesn’t have the size of Trask, nor the mobility of Baker, but combined, he’s probably a bit bigger than Mayfield and a bit more athletic than Trask.

  18. First Last Says:

Watch the Mic’d up of the game with the Giants. Baker goes to Trask after running the TD and Trask doesn’t even say anything to him in response or look up from his tablet. – 2:05 mark watch for like 15 seconds Joe. This is a juicy one!

Man, that’s uncalled for don’t ya think? ✌🏼
Go while I can? WTF is that supposed to mean?

You do realize my post was a joke, right?
I’ve been Bakers biggest supporter since he was in Cleveland, tough guy.

    Chill dude 😎

This is just one of those misdirection moves, trying to get everyone to make something out of nothing, and through the other teams into “I wonder if #1 is hurt more than we think”

  23. Bucmike Says:

Just watched “Battle Cry” highlights on utube and noticed after Baker’s TD he went over to Trask on the bench and said something about going airborne for the TD. Trask never even looked up, totally ignoring Baker. Mabey Trask knows it’s just a matter of time….Just saying…..

  24. J.K. McKay's broken hand Says:

Get Baker some dry needling asap for that stinger.

  25. MelvinJunior Says:

For mop up duty only, if the game gets outta hand late like as it did last week… Cause, it’s already proven and set in stone that they aren’t playing/giving Trask a shot at playing under any circumstance, at all cost.

  26. heyjude Says:

Intrigue is right. That is a curve ball for all of us including the Panthers. I bet they were not expecting that to happen either.

  27. garro Says:

Bowles playing mind games? That is just plain weird! Who in the heck would be “sniffing around” this late in the season for a third string QB? Makes no sense. Paranoia mavbe but still makes no sense. Even if they lost him. What have they really lost?

    Go Bucs!

  28. Dave Pear Says:

Mike Glennon Jr is pouting. How cute.

If you want to talk Gator QBs, Lagway has a real chance to be the first Gator QB ever in history to enjoy more NFL success than Rex Grossman. And Grossman would be your most successful Gator NFL QB. The Bucs third stringer will be on laundry duty today.

  29. Cobraboy Says:

    @garro:

“Sniffing” can mean planning ahead for 2025-2026.

I suspect the Bucs are [protecting Pratt because they have no intention of keeping Trask.

Licht said they would draft Pratt late, but some team beat them against him.

  30. Zoocomics Says:

@SB~LV…yes, I actually think this is the reason why he was elevated. That being said, if he dresses, given his mobility, it would be cool if they threw in a play for him to run.

  31. Marky Mark Says:

Six foot two and a half, 217, 4.23 40 yard dash. He ran a lot at Tulane. He is in for run plays like the guy in New Orleans from BYU.

  32. Marky Mark Says:

Gonegator. Human communication is 80% non verbal. Which means this forum is only 20%. With out facial expressions, tone of voice, body positioning no one knew it was a joke except for you. You made the AssUme mistake. In addition, humans are so conditioned to the missing 80% that they will fill it in. It was completely different from your 80% when you typed it in. Sarcasm does not work in text.

  33. Kenton Smith Says:

Marky Mark I don’t think he runs 4.23 40 yard dash. If he does I would like to put my hat in to be his business manager.

  34. Kenton Smith Says:

Researched it-he ran 4.23 in the 20 yard shuttle run. He did run a very respectable 4.65 40 yard dash.
