Round 2: Bucs Select Alabama Edge Rusher Chris Braswell

April 26th, 2024

Bucs OLB Chris Braswell.

Can Bucs coaches get a guy known for pressures to turn those into sacks? If they can, the Bucs may have drafted a stud pass rusher.

The Bucs selected Alabama edge rusher Chris Braswell in the second round. He doesn’t have many sacks, but he has a s(p)itload of pressures.

Since 2022, per the PFF tribe, Braswell had 86 pressures. That’s good.

Of course in the NFL, pressures don’t do s(p)it against good quarterbacks. You have to finish and, as is well-documented, sacks are drive-killers.

Welcome to Tampa, Mr. Braswell!

After two rounds, the Bucs have filled what fans felt was there greatest needs: center and edge rusher. Now go get a running back!

    Alright alright

  2. Austing Says:

Dudes got the nastiest stiff arm

  3. Mac Says:

Fills a need. Now go get a rb with our next pick please!!!!

  4. MadMax Says:

WE GOT BRASWELL? I seriously thought he would be gone….YES!!!!!!!

I know my stuff and so does Mr. Licht!

  5. Buccaneer rick Says:

Now Joe has his edge what’s next

  6. BucU Says:

    Welcome to Tampa CB!

  7. Ben the GA Buc Says:

If he and Diaby along with our tackles can all get pressure on Bowles’ blitzes, a lot of QBs could go down … it’s a team game.

I like the picks so far.

  8. BucsBeast Says:

    Awe GREAT another Edge project

  9. Hogg Wild Says:

13 sacks in the sec last year is pretty nice Joe.

  10. Buccaneer rick Says:

    Lb next

  11. Buccaneer rick Says:

    And or wr

  12. Robert Says:

If he hadn’t gotten hurt he would have been a 1st. Rounder. He is a steal at 57.

  13. Buccup Says:

He had better get more than pressures or the Bucs will just have another JTS on their hands.

  14. Addb Says:

3 forced fumbles. Only 1 year starting. SEC dawg. Welcome to the Krewe!!!

  15. Rod Munch Says:

Although he didn’t play a ton of snaps, reading about him, scouts say he’s ready to play – he’s not a project player.

The hit rate on edge guys this time of the draft isn’t great, but that hit rate only gets worse the longer you wait, so we’ll see what happens.

  16. Conner50 Says:

Great pick now can we talk another team into taking JTS for a third or fourth round pick maybe? Doubt a team would but it’s worth a shot being that he sucks

  17. Fun Guy Says:

Another pick where need and value meet nicely.

  18. BucsFan81 Says:

This seems like a Bowles pick. A project edge rusher that can drop back in coverage which Bowles likes to do. I would have rather seen us choose a linebacker to play next to David and learn for a year or two.

  19. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Nasty, love the pics so far.

  20. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Damn straight. Most athletic edge left. Sneaky good pick

  21. Matthew Lawrence Says:

Thank God! Finally pass rusher. Hey Joe, do you think we can finally develop a run game this year or in my dream is still!

  22. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Another solid pick. You have to look at the film where he’s not being double-teamed… he looked pretty damn good. You don’t go to Alabama unless you’re a physical freak. I’m on board.

  23. Trask To The Future Says:

Has everyone seen the blocked FG he had against A&M? Rushes up the middle and puts a move on and not only blocks the FG, continues forward and scoops it and returns it for a TD!

Helluva an athlete. Turner got most of the Bama press but Braswell didn’t even get to play much until 2023 and he showed he’s a beast!

    Welcome to Tampa, Chris!

  24. BUC CHEEKS Says:

    Trotter then Allen or Estime

  25. Dave Pear Says:

Like the pick. He looks more like a real LB than pure edge. Will introduced him as a LB. But am worried that Todd will decide his genius to have the dude play every position on the field. And confuse the poor rook to the point of ineptitude.

    Toad.

  26. Simeon4HOF Says:

Joe be positive. There’s your Edge. He’s a way different player than Tryon who was a reach to fill a need. Braswell fell. Diaby is bout to be a stud you shall see. Great compliment to #0, and now we have mad depth at Edge. Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!! Not a night for Pessimism. Sky the limit for us now. NFC Champs on the way. Please enjoy Rd 3 Joe. All is Well! No holes on Defense. CB in Rd4 for depth.

  27. Buccaneer rick Says:

    Or we

  28. Simeon4HOF Says:

    S in 6th for depth. Offense Rd3 .. Let’s get it JL

  29. geno711 Says:

I had him with 8 sacks last year. A block FG on special teams, an Int return last year. All good stuff.

  30. Dave Pear Says:

We have two more tonight unless JL does some GM shizit.

  31. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Stayed in our spot, made a good pick…….NEXT!!!

  32. Dave Pear Says:

Jason is the best damn GM in the business.

  33. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Best part of the draft is knowing Bowles and his assistants can coach up the athletic prospects on D. Todd might make some F’ed up game day decisions but man, they can develope players. The good outweighs the bad there

  34. StickinUp4Centers Says:

Where do they get 17 sacks from? sports-reference.com shows 8 last year and 2.5 the year before as a part time player.

That being said, I’d consider 8 sacks good production in 14 games.

  35. adam from ny Says:

    solid choice mr. licht……….

pff has him as #7 of their top 10 edges in the draft…

if watts is also really a dude, we might be okay…

    #DudesOverDuds

  36. Cometowin2 Says:

Great pick. Best Edge on the board. Better production than Kneeland who went just before to the Cowgirls. Now get a CB or ILB with next pick and RB Braelon Allen with the last pick in the 3rd round.

I’ve callled both picks so far.

  37. Defense Rules Says:

OK there’s our Center & our Edge. Now get the ILB & the RB.

  38. Defense Rules Says:

BUC CHEEKS … ‘Trotter then Allen or Estime’.

    Works for me

  39. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

I like it! 13 SEC sacks last year works for me!

  40. Idroolpewter&red Says:

Hooray! Joe got his pass rusher! Hope he develops well.

  41. Bojim Says:

Two really good picks so far.

  42. SenileSenior Says:

The team total for sacks will tell the story of TBs defense at the end of this season. Looking forward to seeing Braswell’s total, though.

  43. nicholas houllis Says:

this Psudo need for a RB …. if we all agree white is good in space as a receiver, then opening holes IS SPACE!! We lost 4 of our Super Bowl offensive linemen, 3 really. Marpet, Jensen, Kappa…. all gone. Were still rebuilding that Super Bowl O line

Duh, really? LVD is definitely going to retire soon. The draft is always a crapshoot, but I sure like our choices/chances under Lights-Out Licht and Bowles.
