Bucs Got YaYa Diaby II?

April 26th, 2024

Edge rusher Chris Braswell, the Bucs’ second-round draft pick.

On NFL Network this evening, the gang on the studio set thought that Bucs’ second-round pick Chris Braswell is a carbon copy of current Bucs outside linebacker YaYa Diaby.

In other words, the Bucs may have a steal in the second round out of the University of Alabama.

Now Joe is not knocking the kid here with the following: pressures are nice but it is sacks that get the job done. This isn’t just Joe typing with passion about sacks. Well-documented data shows sacks shut down offenses.

And if you can’t score, you can’t win. Sacks are that vital.

So with pressures, Braswell seems to be a stud. But to be a true monster, he’s got to get those quarterbacks on the ground. Good quarterbacks aren’t fazed by pressures. They are driven nuts by sacks.

Since Braswell played for Nick Saban, he should have good fundamentals. The rest is for Bucs coaches to develop.

What Joe likes about this Braswell is how he affects games. He was tied for the SEC lead last year in forced fumbles with three.

  2. VOT Says:

I like the pick and hope we go right back to the OL next – LG please

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

Better CB coverage will lead to more sacks.

  4. firethecannons Says:

chris braswell is not built like YaYa hope he is good, glad he came from Bama–probably saw serious competition. He was not a starter from what I gather not sure what to make of this. just wanted Trey Benson the RB from FSU.

  5. Usedtocould Says:

    Rb and db next

  6. geno711 Says:

So, Braswell ended up with 8 sacks playing that position for Alabama last year.

Will Anderson Jr played the same position the year before for Alabama and ended up with 10 sacks.

So yes Will Anderson Jr. is better but don’t over rate the sack number that much in this instant Joe.

  7. Scott Says:

It sure seems like it. Maybe he will start off more polished too.

  8. gotbbucs Says:

Diaby will be the hand in the dirt guy, Braswell will be more of a traditional two point rush LB.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Best Edge on the board……..if we wanted and Edge Rusher he’s the one……let’s hope he develops.

    Now, let’s get a WR3 or a RB……..slim pickin’s on WRs……

  10. Leopold Stotch Says:

WR. ILB and or Tykee Smith

  11. MadMax Says:

89 and 92…maybe trade up for LB Wilson?

An edge/OLB and LB…lets do it!

    Payton Wilson!

  12. Dodd Says:

Didn’t he have 8 sacks last year? This kid can play

  13. KiDxCuRRy Says:

Great pick. Think he was 5th in the SEC in sacks. If we could end up getting Tez Walker and Braelon Allen. Our draft would be complete already. Then just load up on DB/ST talent

  14. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

The fun part of the NFL draft is getting inside the GMs head. My prediction R3 Licht drafts Braelon Allen (if available), Payton Wilson the same. If not he’s going Estime and Eichenberg

  15. Rudy Carter Says:

According to the link below Braswell is the most underrated EDGE in this year’s draft. If that holds true, then we definiitely got a steal! Go BUCS!!!

  16. Tony marks Says:

Kid has room to Grow, 22 and sat on the bench a year. In the second this is what you are looking for since the top edges are gone. Solid pick. Coaching may well turn more of those pressures into sacks.

  17. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Yep! Jason Licht had learned the value of speed + strength. A few years ago he placed too much emphasis on speed. We’re seen by those corrections with strong players like Yayay and Barton, with less picks on guys like JTS, Hall and Hainsey

  18. unbelievable Says:

Tied for most FF in the SEC last year
Tied 5th most sacks in the SEC last year too

That’s not exactly bad, Joe. Double what Chop had lol. His pass rush needs work though for sure. I don’t love the selection mainly bc I don’t seem him having much impact in year 1, which I want / expect from a 2nd round pick. Hope I am dead wrong tho!

  19. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

MadMax Wilson might happen. The knock on Winfield was the same: injury history

  20. Hearty Dikerson Says:

My god, autocorrect is a monster. Sorry for the miscommunication

  21. Shep Barnard Says:

Huge mistake, had a chance at possibly the best RB Benson and instead took a maybe avg edge.

  22. OR Buc Says:

Joe, that’s 2 initial articles about pressures vs sacks. The dude got a bunch of sacks as a part time player. Also, he was keeping for sacks with Dallas Turner. He had 4 times as many sacks as chop (excluding UMess sacks). What’s the deal? He’s an excellent pick!

  23. OR Buc Says:

    Competing* not keeping

  24. OR Buc Says:

Also, how many sacks is a pic to the house worth? That was a pretty nice highlight in 1st article

  25. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Pressures can lead to turnovers as that video showed. Sacks don’t always stop drives as our defense has showed time and time again. Coaching staff hasn’t helped JTS improve so hope this dude doesn’t need much coaching up.

  26. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

If he was a rotational player over 2 years, then how many sacks & pressures is that per play? Then go look at others, like Chomp.

  27. Mike Says:

Has a chance to be good, but we will see how it goes.

  28. Salary Cap Hell Says:

    Build the trenches

  29. Bucfan1988 Says:

Heck yeah, snag WR Tez Walker, if he’s there…

That dude went thru hell with the ACL tear early, then horrible luck with Covid affecting the college having a football team, then he transfers and the NCAA tried to keep from being able to play…

He’s got great skills and he never gave up…

Hope we grab him as the CG14 replacement for next year…

  30. Dave Pear Says:

It’s hilarious when these toadstools get on their moms’ computers and tell us how Jason made a huge mistake and should have drafted a RB with our #2. More imbecillin.

  31. Bojim Says:

    Eight sacks? Pretty decent.

  32. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Dude…give me 4 players that have potential to create havoc vs. 1 elite edge that puts up 10 sacks a year.

  33. David Says:

Love it. Over the last several years, you can build an NFL team by selecting Georgia & Alabama players.
Can Not fault this one bit

  34. StormyInFl Says:

A RB in the 2nd…. nope, no way. Edge was absolutely the right call.

  35. Leopold Stotch Says:

    Called it

  36. Fred McNeil Says:

Forced fumbles are nice, but this guy was not on my radar at all. I’m not putting him down. I just don’t know him from Adam. Let me look into him. Still, I’m cooler with second rounder pressure specialists than first round pressure specialists. Let me look.

  37. lambchop Says:

Benson is overrated. This is a good pick.

  38. Brandonbucc Says:

    Lame pick.

  39. Booger Says:

I don’t get where having ‘8-SACKS’ in THE SEC playing for a loaded BAMA team while sharing the field with mostly ALL ‘5-STARS’ – Too Many ELITE Players – With everyone making plays. The stats are going to even out.

  40. Booger Says:

Consensus ‘5-Star’ Recruit out of Baltimore POWERHOUSE St. Frances H.S. He was Rivals #2 Rated OLB and #24 Overall Prospect. ESPN had him as their #7 Ranked Prospect Overall. 247 had him as their #39 ranked overall prospect and a future ‘1st-ROUND’ Pick. Obviously, played against an ELITE ‘national’ schedule while at St. Frances and then in THE SEC at BAMA. His measurables are INSANE… A definite “FREAK.” Not much to not like with this one. WOW.

  41. No Mercy Says:

Hey Joe, the kid had 8 sacks in the SEC last year in his first year as a starter. And that was competing with the Monster Dallas Turner. When you consider he had more pressures than Turner as well, that’s called elite. Stop the no production narrative it’s getting old and simply isn’t true.

  42. Esteban85 Says:

Hell he got himself 8 sacks in the SEC, Joe. Not too shabby

  43. chester gatling Says:

These draft picks have talent and they can definitely develop into their full potential in the NFL. Let’s just give them a chance to help the team. Don’t matter what team they are from…GM saw something in them ….so go bucs!

  44. Oneilbuc Says:

Let’s wait and see remember Logan Hall and JTS so he I have to see if he going to be good. And let’s not bring up the SEC because we have quarterback that was number one in every stat playing up against the SEC and you guys think he suck . Even though he out played the quarterback you guys think is so great in training camp. So you can’t pick and choose to use the SEC conference with. Meaning they played in the best confidence in college football with their stats.
