Yeah, the Bucs had a roller coaster year with huge lows and ecstasy-filled highs. Tristan Wirfs seemed to love every minute of it and he explained.
“It was the most fun I’ve had playing football and going 9-9. It was an awesome year, just the people we had in our building,” Wirfs told the Men On Melrose podcast, apparently not realizing the Bucs went 10-9.
Wirfs cited the amazing camaraderie of the offensive line room and his relationship with relationship with “Bake,” aka Baker Mayfield.
“Life of the town” is a good way to describe Mayfield, Wirfs said.
He added that despite knowing Mayfield less than the year, there’s a bond that feels incredibly deep between Mayfield and many Bucs teammates.
“It’s like he went to college with us. It’s crazy,” Wirfs said. “He’s just like an Energizer bunny, just always going. Like I can’t even describe it, he’s so cool. This guy loves Tequila. It’s awesome. So cool.”

Tequila doesnt cause dehydration.
It’s the perfect alcohol for an athlete.
Baker Mayfield is a Buccaneer Man because he’s a Pirate, Gangster White Boy and Texas Cowboy all rolled into one.
I am so happy he is our QB.
We have always been an overlooked franchise.
We were “The Yucs” until Dungy arrived.
We are a team of underdogs and OutKasts.

Could care less if Trask drinks or doesn’t. Could care less if Bake drinks or not. This is the NFL – not high school and not a frat. Baker does tequila shooters, big deal. Trask drinks or doesn’t drink, big deal.

Funny that the only thing everybody took from this post was the comment on tequila. I think the most important and noteworthy thing is hearing about the amazing camaraderie of the offensive line and his incredibly deep bond with Mayfield. Both are very important for team chemistry.

Why bring up Trask? The guy may drink, not drink, drink tequila or wine… who cares? A shot or two of tequila doesn’t make a man or QB. There’s this other guy Tom Brady who avoided alcohol. Turned out pretty well for him…. oops, except for that Florida Lombardi moment!

I wrote in a post awhile back about Wirfs and alcohol. I’m getting concerned as a sober alcoholic. The fact he brings it up so often gives me pause. I just hope the Bucs have great drug and alcohol abuse counselors. Who let these guys know how dangerous alcohol is if you abuse it and becone dependent. Look the kid is lightyears more brilliant and talented than I’ll ever be. I just know as the guy who could out drink the O-line in Tampa hotels back in the 90’s it will catch up to you.
