Entire Coaching Staff Expected To Return

January 22nd, 2024

Todd Bowles held a somewhat somber season-ending news conference today and shared a bit of news.

He said his entire coaching staff is welcome back to return in 2024 unless they move on through a promotion elsewhere. Bowles talked about how proud he is of the staff, mentioned individual assistant coaches and praised the group for keeping players minds on task and shielding outside noise.

Joe was almost a little surprised. In addition to showing appreciation for his staff, Joe thought Bowles might have said he’d evalauate every coach and look for any areas of improvement. He does often talk about how much coaches can “need to get better” in their work.

It was a strong year for Bowles’ staff. Players improved. Rookies were ready and played a huge role. Second-year players like Cade Otton and Zyon McCollum made strides. Backups like K.J. Britt and Aaron Stinnie were ready to ball out.

Joe remembers when the Bucs struggled to develop talent during The Lost Decade. Joe has no desire to go back to that.

Proud of Coach Bowles and the team. Looking forward to Jason Licht working his off-season magic. Go Bucs!

  2. Trey Alderson-Cloutier Says:

I think we need to look at a new secondary coach. No reason CJ Stroud breaks an all time NFL record against us and Goff marches down the field for 3 TDs in a row last night. When we needed our defense to step up most, they folded.

  3. Jiminfk Says:

Perhaps a D/C change would help. 23 points should be enough to win a game. Didn’t Sapp say get 17 points and we will win?

  4. StormyInFl Says:

They need to fire the defensive coordinator.

    Oh, wait…..

  5. KiddG_87 Says:

Extremely proud of our Bucs. They went blow for blow with the leagues hottest team yesterday. Even though we didn’t get the “W” our guys balled out from our QB to our waterboy. This team wasn’t distracted or disturbed by the noise. Now we need to go get Baker a #1 RB and let’s deepen our secondary. Can’t wait to see the magic Jason Licht does this spring.

  6. Marine Buc Says:

    Good.

Let’s reload and do it again…

  7. Thunder Says:

Was not a fan in the beginning, But you can’t deny they out preformed everybody expectations.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Not a Bowles fan but I will give credit where credit is due. I think Canales made great strides…

We had a very inconsistent defense with several veteran players not contributing as they should. Vea, White, Shaq

We have a weak middle offensive line that needs to be fixed.

Very pleased with Rachaad White (not mentioned as 2nd year player developing)

  9. 1#bucsfan Says:

Don’t like Bowles coaching style but we had a very young team a lot of rookies playing no money to spend well done. Most people including fans said we’d win 4 games.

  10. stpetebucfan Says:

Did the team improve as the season went along? Did the team exceed virtually ALL expectations from “experts” around the league”? Does the team have room for additional growth. Or as the Glazers day is the arrow pointing up.

Questions 1 & 3 have “some” room for opinion. Question 2 is simply a fact that really shouldn’t even need to be asked except on a board that includes an amazing amount of negative nellies!!!

I get a resounding yes to all three. Yes they improved, they factually exceeded all expectations, and IMHO they have a LOT of room for growth given that it was the first year for the entire offense…OC, QB, OL…those guys will continue to get better a second year in the system.

I didn’t see anybody playing out of their arse in a manner that can’t be duplicated and improved upon next year. ME13 has obviously reached his potential. CG14..LVD and a few others…but the majority of this team is still growing.

I LOVED this season..always more fun to EXCEED expectations than to simply live up to them, much less come up way short like last season.

Again…to steal from Timbuk 3’s hit..,

“Things are going great, and they’re only getting better
    I’m doing alright,
The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades”

  11. Bob Says:

The offensive line coach should have been considered for replacement. The worst rushing team in back to back years. Just saying.

  12. Rayjay1122 Says:

We for sure exceeded expectations but sometimes I feel as though Bowles is over his head as HC as well as DC. It is frustrating when a 1st year OC has success and we see the growth and improvements however our defense which should be solid from years of experience and continuity, is the weak link and has a few times this season cost us wins. Regardless, great season and hopefully it can be built upon.

  13. Tye Says:

The Bucs DID have an exceptional year ending with a winning season… GREAT!

But Bowels coached team STILL have YET to beat even the marginally good teams… Bowels will never sniff the Conference Championship much less the SB…

So the ‘STUCK WITH BOWELS AS HC’ campaign continues!

  14. BucVoyager Says:

    News Flash:

Stroud was ripping up defenses around the league. He has rare accuracy so from that standpoint, I’m glad Carolina didn’t draft him.

Maybe we should have won that game but, Stroud has to be given credit for what he’s done.

  15. LVMYBUCS Says:

Yea well those 3 unblocked pass rushes tell a different story.

  16. A Bucs Fan Says:

The Bucs need to address IOL, EDGE, TE, ILB, RB, DB and WR through free agency and the draft this year to make another run.

  17. TomBucsFan Says:

    Tough loss, Go Bucs.

  18. JimBobBuc Says:

Players are graded after every game, and some move up or down as starters. Players’ future with the team are evaluated, at least after the season. So do coaches tell every player whether they have a job next season, of course not.

Position coaches should be evaluated the same way. Can we get a better run game coach that our current? How about DL coach, can we get a better one? Ariens and now Bowles are too invested in their staff and it’s hurt the team in retaining friends that are not producing. The NFL is a business and we need to move on from coaches and players that don’t produce.

  19. NYbucsfan Says:

I wish someone would fire Todd. I don’t know how you could watch the game yesterday and watch the Lions repeatedly throw underneath the linebackers yet you keep dropping your linebackers 12 yards deep at the snap. Or on the 4th and 1 he punts.

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

Lot of criticism of Bowles during the season. Me included. Give him credit, He put his head down and dove into the fray with determination. I hope all of you realize we are close. We lost some very close games. 3 to be exact. Find us a pass rush next season and our D will be feared. Baker may not be the best QB in the league. But he’s got Moxy and guts, He never gives up. I like that. Pay da Man!

  21. Jack Clark Says:

Congratulations Todd Bowles, way to keep our team together with shoe string and duck tape this season. Defeating the defending NFC champions in the playoffs with no cap space to add the best players to our team is no easy task.Hopefully with more cap space we can get you the pass rushers and run blocking interior offensive linemen we need to win another Super Bowl. Go Bucs!

  22. BrianBucs Says:

I have not been a fan of Bowles being the head coach here.
I think he is in over his head.
His defense has been shredded at times and the offense has been better the last quarter of the season but is still mediocre at best.
His saving grace this season has been playing in a terrible weak division and having a weak schedule against bad or reeling teams.
Now with all of that being said, even though I would like to see another HC here, I believe that Bowles has done just enough to have earned another season here.
Bowles will probably be fired at the end of next season and Bucs fans will be calling for his firing by mid-season but I think he has earned another shot at it.
    I wish him luck

  23. Gipper Says:

Bowles is a good man who maintained a steady hand all year. Nothing would help Bowles and the team more than stronger Defense and Offense lines. Was pretty clear yesterday why Detroit is strong and built to last. They have strength on both lines. Goff had all day in the pocket yesterday. Baker didn’t.

No point is resigning Baker or any other top tier QB unless you are going to protect him. It is a miracle that Baker didn’t miss a game all season.

  24. Ajax Says:

The D scheme is the worst ever. DB’s 10 yards off the ball on 3rd and 4. Lb’s that drop so deep you can take a 7 yard pass 15 times a game. You’ll never see a good NFL D that isn’t aggressive. This scheme is the most passive I’ve ever had to struggle watching. I think our defensive backfield broke up a max 10 passes all year. I guess letting them catch it then tackle is better than actually playing man to man and make the receiver best you.
    Maddening scheme. Sissy ball.

  25. Bobby Says:

Why did Bowles not use the final timeout in yesterday’s loss? If he had called timeout with 38 seconds left the Bucs could have gotten the ball back and attempted to score right????

  26. Bobby Says:

Don’t believe me, another outlet is reporting this same thing??? Others noticed this as well

  27. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Great news. Continuity counts. If you doubt that look at Pittsburgh. Another plus, free agent pickups will be cheaper because arrow up

  28. infomeplease Says:

TB did better this year than last! This Detroit game was winnable. One play here or there and we’d be celebrating today! It didn’t happen. The team is moving in the right direction. We need another good draft and to cut loose some dead wieght. We’ll see how that goes!

  29. Temp Bucs Fan Says:

    Bobby Says:

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

I agree, it seems both teams got ahead of themselves with that one. Lions would’ve attempted a FG though, so no guarantee Bucs would’ve scored and tied or they’ve been arrogant enough to go for it and probably would’ve gotten a 1st down anyways.

  30. unbelievable Says:

Oh come on Todd, grow some balls!

For the love of god can we please get rid of Keith Armstrong already?

Outside of our kickers (which is a credit to Licht) our special teams have been abysmal under him, year after year after year.

  31. Ricki Says:

Ppl still dont understand that the only reason we got in playoff was because NFC south sucked. Next year when will be third in NFC south we will realize we should have let Bowles go.

  32. Stu Says:

Move on from Bowles and hire Belichek with McDaniels as OC…

  33. BAKERSBucs says Says:

NYzbucsfan all u need to know is u r post name snuff said

  34. BAKERSBucs says Says:

Hay that is my name stu & as someone with my name to even ring up the name belicheck is wtf dude he is a convicted cheat we don’t hire cheats just ask the glazers no F’n way

  35. BAKERSBucs says Says:

    Wudda shudda cudda

  36. BAKERSBucs says Says:

Hay stroud didn’t show up at travels mark my words he is another c.knaepernick 1 good season that’s it his true colors showed up at Ravens don’t care what u might counter with

  37. Oneilbuc Says:

Bakerbucs. CJ Stroud is better than Baker Mayfield next CJ Stroud will get better but Baker Mayfield is who he is he ain’t getting no better!! This year was is as far you will get with Baker Mayfield at quarterback. Next year all of y’all will be mad when the season starts esept the Baker Mayfield fan base they will just make up a bunch of excuses for Baker Mayfield watch and see!! Lol 🤣🤣

  38. Fred Says:

    Get rid of Bowles.

  39. Usfbucs Says:

What information do you have Ricki that says the Bucs will be third next year in the NFC south? Experts said the Saints were going to win the South this year and they didn’t.

The entire offense from this year will likely be back with some additions so we should see a more consistent offense next season. I think from BMs comment about wanting to win that he takes a deal that allows the Bucs to be competitive still. My guess is that he wants to change the perception of himself as a player and what’s left of his career. He doesn’t want to be the first round pick who bounced from team to team an never lived up to his draft position.

  40. Usfbucs Says:

More on the Bucs and placing third, if the Falcons hire Bill he will ruin the team. He is a shell of what he was back when he had the best QB of all time, and one of the best TEs of all time.

Panthers have a good defense but their offense sucks and they don’t have a first rd pick. Two significant players on defense to sign that will command big money.

Saints will continue to under perform and they have cap issues next season like the Bucs did this year.

  41. Donald G Says:

I couldnt be more proud of this team. I was so hard on them Hard on Baker too early in the year. Those guys are warriors . They fought tooth and nail and came so close. You think Detroit wants any more of us. HECK NO No one does. I do wish we were in more of an attack mode yesterday! I think we would’ve won that game. Please bring most of these fighters back.I cant wait to see us next year!!!

  42. stpetebucfan Says:

“STILL have YET to beat even the marginally good teams…”

I think Dallas considers Green Bay to be better than marginally good. Yes the nellies will be here to say…but…but GB was slumping at the time. They were playing in their own freaking stadium and it wasn’t close.

Philly and Jax were obviously suffering…and the D did choke away a win against the darlings of the playoffs Houston and CJ Stroud.

Ah I realize I’m whizzing in the wind. Every victory the Bucs had has an asterisk from some fans. The playoff win was lucky,..it’s all luck since the Bucs suck. Isn’t that the reality?

  43. stpetebucfan Says:

“He is a shell of what he was back when he had the best QB of all time, and one of the best TEs of all time.”

Actually he was NEVER a great HC without Brady. Before he had five years in Cleveland…1 winning season…36-44. First year with NE without Brady he led a team just a few years removed from a SB appearance to 5-11! THEN Tom Brady,

Brady leaves and BB was 29-38. In what world is this considered good?

It WAS good enough to get him FIRED!!!!! Bwaaahaaahaaa

  44. Usfbucs Says:

Yes stpete, I wasn’t going that far back but that was my point. For some reason there are people here who think that if the Falcons sign BB that they will some how suddenly be Super Bowl contenders.

  45. steele Says:

What is “somber” about this news is that everyone is full of helium, and full of themselves.

Let’s be objective. This team BARELY exceeded LOW expectations, and mostly on the momentum of 3 final weeks, that were in turn greatly assisted by opposing teams regressing and being exposed, favorable matchups, and surprise (you get that under the radar as an underdog). The Panthers are a pitiful mess. The Eagles, injury-riddled and awful. The fact that the Bucs feasted on that rotten meat meant not much, but it gave them confidence, some of it false.

Prior to that, look at the record. Close to .500 and below, in the weakest division in the NFL. Bowles mismanagement. Canales, searching, inconsistent, rookie. Mayfield, erratic gunslinger. Roster still full of problems. Bowles, still HC.

They lost to the Lions because of exactly the issues we have been going over and over for two years, Bowles still not a great coach, Canales still a rookie, Baker and the downside of Bake’s gunslinging, and the overriding fact that teams like the Lions are plain better at everything.

This team is still where it was for most of the season, a .500 proposition, plus some extra bravado in a short time span, and that helium will lull the brass into thinking they don’t need to change anything.

  46. Bkyrdbob Says:

Bellacheat cant coach in the south. His deflated ball trick wint work so well down here. If we want to bug the opponents locker room we could do it without him. How good of a coach has he been since getting caught?
