“I Have A Strong Belief That We Can Win A Super Bowl In The Near Future”

January 22nd, 2024

Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales.

Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales dropped an interesting comment last week that Joe was going to dive deep into if the Bucs had won yesterday.

Canales was talking about how he asked his offense as a group to reflect on games when they were clicking, you know, in the zone.

“…They talked about Houston, they talked about Green Bay, they talked about San Francisco. The tide changed on the turnover before the half, but… … the Falcons game, to win it at the end … ” Canales noted.

San Francisco being included really struck Joe. That’s the beastly bully of the NFC. And yes, the Bucs offense had some success against them. It might have been more without a Cade Otton touchdown drop.

If the offense felt they were humming against three playoff teams that landed in the divisional round of the postseason, then that tells Joe there’s real belief on the roster that the team is close to the ultimate prize.

Today, Todd Bowles also referenced the San Francisco game and the confidence the game gained out there in October.

After yesterday’s gut-punch loss, Otton went there full-throttle. “I have a strong belief that we can win a Super Bowl in the near future.”

Joe wonders if Team Glazer and Jason Licht assess the state of the Buccaneers in that way. If so, then the Bucs’ moves this offseason might surprise a ton of fans, especially those who think the Bucs should be rebuilding with a new coach and quarterback.

I like his optimism for sure but a few years ago from the Superbowl that is a real interesting take from Dave for sure. The buccaneers have some real questions that have to be answered in the off season so that’s a big factor. In addition, there is no guarantee the division will be as bad as it was this year. Any other division and the Bucs aren’t even in the playoffs.

  2. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

I agree with Otton on this. Add a few more pieces and growth of the players in this system we can compete with anyone. We have to be aggressive with this roster and make the most out of our window we have. Please, develop a pass rusher!!

  3. A Bucs Fan Says:

Yeah, better hold on to Canales. He’s got a second in person interview with the stinking Panthers now.

You will greatly need to change the HC/DC and upgrade a few positions, then you are probably right….

  5. Bojim Says:

    Agree with Knoxville.

  6. Buc1987 Says:

A lot of fans have no faith in Bowles.

The team does judging by how hard they fought for him.

    Keep Bowles.

  7. Saskbucs Says:

With another strong draft and aggressive spending, no reason they can’t be a legitimate contender as soon as next season. Baker, Wirfs, Winfield, Evans, David, Mclaughlin need to be resigned. How much cap space is left after that? Sign a Danielle Hunter or Josh Allen and add to the trenches in the draft, Bucs defense will be fierce.

  8. Pryda…sec147 Says:

We are closer than most would say. Another solid draft year 2 in the system no reason we can’t win another chip

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

I really do think our Bucs are 2 pass rushers away from going a step further than we did this year. O line is gonna be OK. They got invaluable experience this season. Watch’em bulk up and ger stronger next year.

  10. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Yep, agree with Mike Johnson, put pressure on Goff and the Bucs move on, Lions stay home. A killer DE would go a long way, look how the trajectory of Da Bears D changed when they added Montez Sweat

  11. Leighroy Says:

Drops seemed to plague the offense this year, or at least it felt that way, I don’t know how the totals compared to yearly averages.

Offense needs upgrade at LG and C. Another running back would be nice, but White is an ideal 3rd down back who ran the ball better towards the end of the year. We seem to have nice young pieces at TE and WR.

Defense needs an edge rusher and a better safety to pair w AWJr.

  12. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

First thing first, we gotta keep Canales for all the rest to fall in place for the offense. I agree with needing an edge guy for sure, a big back to complement white, and pick up the best we can get in the later rounds. Todd Bowles, I only wish he would show me some more emotion on the field, get a little pissed off when things aren’t going well, your the boss and a game is just that. Thanks for a pretty awesome season with Baker.

  13. Colonel Angus Says:

Fortify the trenches, add a power back to move the chains, need a speedy playmaker WR. Would be nice to have a threat in the return game. Bucs ain’t that far away from competing for another ring.

  14. Hodad Says:

The only thing I remember about the 49er game was Brock Purdy having a perfect passer rating against the defensive genuis that is Todd Bowles. Joe makes it sound like we competed in that game? I don’t remember it that way. Must’ve been in the good loss catagory.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

Bowles also referenced the San Francisco game and the confidence the game gained out there in October.

    ——

How do you lose a game by double digit points — which could have been dramatically worse since the 49ers dropped at least 4 INTs — and talk about that being a confidence builder?

Is Arians talking about what a good loss that 49ers game was? Is Brady talking about what a confidence building losing a game is?

This is the loser mentality stuff that just makes me really not like Bowles sometimes.
