Defense Let Bucs Down

January 21st, 2024

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

Joe doesn’t know whether it was injuries or just that the defense was zapped. Either way, the defense let the Bucs down today in a winnable division round playoff game.

And the Bucs’ season comes to an end.

In the second half, the defense was softer than a newborn kitten. They couldn’t get to Jared Goff and when they did, Carlton Davis got flagged with a really dumb personal foul.

It didn’t help when Jamel Dean got hurt (again) and so too did Kaevon Merriweather. That meant McCollum had to play more corner and Ryan Neal had to play safety.

And man, how bad of a tackler was Neal? Good, grief!

The Lions really picked on McCollum, often having to guard Amon-Ra St. Brown. Not exactly a matchup the Bucs wanted to see.

The Bucs, normally strong against the run and up the middle, got gashed time and again by both the run and the pass. It didn’t even look like the Lions were trying.

Yeah, it turned out to be a one-score game. Yeah, the Bucs had a chance to tie in the final two minutes. The Bucs would not have had to be in that position if the defense only played average ball in the second half.

    todd bowles fire

Belicheck coming to the Bucs baby!

  2. firethecannons Says:

Agreed with Joe–defense was sub par, the offensive line is not good either

  3. I’m tired and 87 is right Says:

No adjustments. Lions scored every possession after the half. Not good.

  4. Waterboy Says:

Still had a shot at the end.

  5. adam from ny Says:

lack of pressure on goff was big today…he had time to chill back there…

zyon as the dean replacement didn’t pan out either today

  6. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Let’s get some pass rushers! And a guard and a center. And draft a WR early.

  7. Zwak Says:

They way overachieved what was expected just sucks we lost..

  8. firethecannons Says:

    Was Winfield hurt/not playing?

  9. Boss Says:

The Bucs played softer than vv in the off season. Thanks TB!

  10. Austin Says:

All those sacks taking us out of field goal range all postseason is a killer. O-Line is top priority this off-season

  11. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs gave it what they had. And I don’t think Buc fans are really that shocked. The same thing that has plagued us all season jumped up to bite us..NO DEFENSIVE PRESSURE. We played hard. Detroit was the better team..Period. Bucs did better this year than many thought they would. Get ready for the next.

  12. adam from ny Says:

detroit on a whole offers up a very efficient offense

  13. Buc15 Says:

On a positive note, we have found our QB. Need to lock Baker up 4-6 years. Now if we can get Bowles to stop coaching so soft/scared. Tired of playing not to lose instead of being aggressive.

  14. Oxycondomns Says:

Bucs need to draft or hit free agency on defense to replace aging players

  15. Jeff Says:

Naaa it wasn’t the defense. It was the interception by Baker at the end of the game. How many interceptions Tom Brady throw when the game was on the line? ZERRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  16. BucsBeast Says:

We’ve said all year TBowles defense game plan and willingness to be ultra conservative has been our downfall.

  17. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    FIRE BOWLES 💩 🔥 📛 👩‍🚒 🚒 🧯

  18. Zwak Says:

Belicheck? Are you on drugs Sir!

  19. Jack Clark Says:

Our defense let us down because we don’t have any good pass rushers. Pass rushers and interior offensive linemen who are good at run blocking should be top priority for us next year

  20. Murph Says:

Congratulations to the Bucs for a great season. Fought until the very end. Proud of you.

  21. Mr. Barf Says:

The O line was trashed more than the D line

  22. adam from ny Says:

we left a little too much meat on the bone today…

and our d-linemen were not ankle biters today 🙂

  23. CleanHouse Says:

    Bowles should be fired-

Don’t care what any of you “experts” say
    This is the teams ceiling-
    No substitutions-
    No adjustments
    Bad defensive strategy
    Poor personnel decisions

Devin White on the bench most of the game- pathetic!

This game was lost by coaching

  24. Jack Clark Says:

And no don’t fire bowles, just get him good pass rushers and a decent OC that doesn’t waste first and second down running between the tackles

  25. BucsBeast Says:

Like I said I voted NO. Bucs D had to hold the Lions to 17 or under to win.

  26. Usfbucs Says:

“Experts” picked the Bucs to be the worst team in the league, people picked the Bucs to not win the division, and people picked the Bucs to not beat the Eagles. The team needs to clean up their mistakes, add more youth, and we are back in the hunt next year.

  27. tampabuscsbro Says:

I mean……I’m a bit sad but not disappointed we were 4-7 and made a close divisional round game.

Next year need to be better. need some interior O linemen and edge rushers

  28. Trask To The Future Says:

    DEFENSE?

    LOL.

THE ***OFFENSE*** didn’t do much when the game was in doubt.

  29. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    The O line sucked

The D line barely affected the QB ….he had all day

    Pass coverage sucked

    FIRE BOWLES!!!

  30. firethecannons Says:

Minimal pressure on Jared Goff–he had all day–need to fix the offensive line and figure out what we missing on defense, get rid of JTS to start as he is useless and if you aint gonna play Devin White then leave him off the roster. Zyon McCollum is a backup and nothing more, make Davis pay for that facemask penalty–take it out of his salary–no excuse for that sht.

  31. Bucsince88 Says:

The missed field goal didn’t help. Also whiffing on our blocks. The offense has their share of problems.

  32. ReturnGrudenToRing Says:

They went further than just about anyone thought possible. Congrats are in order.

  33. Mike10 Says:

We need some corners that can catch a ball. Too many mistakes today, to win on the road in the playoffs.

  34. Lombardi Lenny Says:

Division gonna be a lot harder next season when Billy B comes to Atlanta and takes the division

  35. David Says:

Not expected to make the playoffs.
Not expected to win the division.
Not expected to win a playoff game.
One driveway from the NFC championship game.

    New OC
    New O system
    New QB
    Mostly new O line
    3 rookies & 2 2nd year players on D

It should be looking real optimistic for next year.
They need a linebacker, another edge rusher, a guard, a center.

Do those things and even with the hard schedule they are looking at a division title and 11 win season

  36. Jack Clark Says:

Baker Mayfield obviously doesn’t have Tom Brady’s ability to adjust the pass protections at the line of scrimmage, that’s the only reason why we didn’t block the blitzes

  37. Oxycondomns Says:

Most of plays for losses were from unblocked blitzers didnt look like an oline issue

  38. BucsBeast Says:

Joe you gmhave to admit, the defense is a Todd Bowles problem.

  39. Idiots Says:

Pathetic fan base. One of the worst

  40. Rod Munch Says:

I don’t know, they made the stop at the end to give Baker the ball – you expect your better than Tom Brady franchise QB to step up in big situations and not throw a really stupid INT.

I’ll have to check the tape at some point this offseason, but it certainly seemed like Bowles tricked everyone today and decided he’d just randomly switch things up and play a ton of zone, when that is what literally killed the defense all season until he stopped doing that.

Anywho, failure at both headcoach and QB cost the Bucs the game.

But, they were never supposed to get this far, so you can’t be too mad about it.

  41. firethecannons Says:

The D line barely affected the QB ….he had all day

    Pass coverage sucked

    AGREE WITH ALL OF THIS

  42. Tbbucs3 Says:

Need a defensive overhaul this offseason

    Shaq Barrett is completely washed
    Vita Vea has declined
Ryan Neal shouldve been cut by week 6

The only bright spots are Jamel Dean, LVD, Winfield and Kancey

  43. Lakeland Steve Says:

After a decent first half the defense fell apart in the 2’nd half. Really disappointing in a game we could have won.

  44. Adam Says:

Dear Canales, please start using the RB to pick blitzes on obvious passing situations.

  45. Bucsince88 Says:

80 something million over the cap. I thought after we went all in for the super bowl we were going to be a last place team by now. Instead the future looks good.

  46. Tye Says:

    ‘STUCK WITH BOWELS’ sucks!

Get Harbaugh or any other respectable coach and this team could vastly improve by next season….
Retain Bowels as HC is an act of embracing mediocrity and NOT valuing a championship caliber team!

  47. Bucs Fan From Philly Says:

KJ Britt era begins. I can’t wait to hear how toxic Devin White was. A captain got benched. He had to be a cancer in the locker room towards the end.

    Resign Baker & Mike

Let’s add Henry to our backfield. Henry + White will help improve the run game and helps Baker. It would help our defense as well.

NO MORE DEAD MONEY. LETS SPEND THAT GLAZER $$$$!!!!

In Licht we trust. DRAFT TIME.

CODY BETTER BE IN THE WEIGHT ROOM AND PUTTING ON SOME WEIGHT

    Ryan Neal, & Gage adios!!!

Zion, I hope you remember how they targeted you consistently at the end. Don’t be a liability next year.

Big Red I hope you can lead our O line next year!

    David, don’t retire.

Evans, you ain’t going no where

  48. Nashville Buc Says:

Get ready for a bunch more mediocre seasons where they’ll be just good enough to break your heart.

  49. Boss Says:

Canales or Harbaugh will be in NC and BB in ATL

Welcome to the dungeon again if they keep Bowles

  50. toopanca Says:

Preseason, ESPN, PFF, and SI power rankings had Bucs 30 to 31.

Why fire the coach when the team beats expectations and has a real shot in the second round of the playoffs???

Congratulations Bucs on a good season, a division championship, and a strong showing in the post season.

    Greedy for more next year!!!

  51. Murph Says:

The Bucs are a team on the rise. Build up the trenches in the draft. Glad to see Coach Bowles playing to win. There is a lot to like. I thought both sides of the ball fought hard and kept them in the game. I am excited for next year.

  52. JayBuc Says:

OL was not the problem. Ran the ball and OL held up just fine. Yes the blitz on the edge was the problem. How did Baker not see Hutchison coming?

  53. Defense Rules Says:

Sometimes the winning team really is the better team. Bucs hung in there in the 1st half, but played like sheep in the 2nd half.

Neal had no business being out there. McCollum plays much better as a safety than he does as a CB. Shaq is toast. Kancey is a beast, but really needs Vea to occupy blockers. Brit isn’t nearly the ILB that White ‘was’.

Defensive game plan was meh. Offensive game plan was meh also. Still convinced Tepper did that on purpose to screw the Bucs (playoff coordinators shouldn’t be allowed to interview while their team is still in the playoffs).

OK now I feel better. On to next year.

  54. Adam Says:

It was a good season. We need to invest in the Oline and learn a little bit. The Lions Oline is one of the best in the league and it crushed our pass rush. Our Oline has been mediocre at best ever since the Marpet days. It was a good season for us though IMO.

  55. MegaFailure Says:

his defense sucks, so fire his ass

  56. Tbbucs3 Says:

Can always count on life long Baker hater Rod Mush to show up to discredit what was another fantastic performance by the QB….if the defense shows up the Bucs win this game

  57. Tb bolts Says:

    The Oline was abysmal

  58. Rod Munch Says:

Also really smart of Bowles to take Devin White out of the game – then reinsert him and tell him to just sit back in that pathetic garbage soft zone that killed the defense all year. Yeah, no need to pressure Goff, you’re much better off just sitting back and getting picked apart.

Great job by Bowles knowing his personnel and putting them in a position to succeed.

But not to worry, we’ll have Brit out there next year running his 4.84 40, I’m sure it will go well.

  59. Jeagan1999 Says:

It was a hell of a season!!!
Bring Baker back, and we will win it next year!
    GO BUCS!!!

  60. stpetebucfan Says:

    Boss

Belichik is NOT an upgrade over Bowles UNLESS he can bring a 30 year old Tom Brady with him!!!

Are you not even aware that BB without Brady (10 years 2 franchises) has exactly the same win % as Bowles…but that was to start the season Bowles has probably already passed him.

As for Atlanta…that would be an answer to my prayers…Belichik indeed!LMAO

  61. ElioT Says:

Garbage article by a clueless writer.

Offense had all the opportunities in the first half.

Like y’all didn’t watch the game.

  62. BucfaninMi Says:

    Shaq? Who’s Shaq?

Oh yeah that guy. I didn’t even know he still played.

  63. UKBuccaneer Says:

The defense was soft all day. Easy passes in the middle and no plan B.

    JBF: Blame Baker!!!

  64. ElioT Says:

@Rod – Devin is finished dude

  65. Tbbucs3 Says:

Canales made 0 adjustments to defend the Lions blitzes….free rushers all game.

Canales has lots of potential and was impressive in year 1 , but he is far from being HC material

  66. Adam Says:

@Jeagan1999 I agree. These Bucs outperformed expectations. Sucks that we lost to tonight, but we have a lot of young talent. I think we’ll have a fun football team to watch for several years

  67. A Bucs Fan Says:

No pass rush was the Bucs demise. Resign Evans then invest in the pass rush/interior offensive line heavily this offseason. I also think finding a beastly TE on offense and the Bucs will be back.

  68. Tood_in_Naples Says:

What a great season by the Bucs. We can be proud of this team.
Baker is our QB. And he is fun to watch.
However, we need to find a replacement for #27. That dude sucked all season long.

    —–

Yeah, 23 points is a remarkable all time performance for sure.

Having the ball in his hands with 2 minutes left, everything on the line, throwing an INT two plays later on a horrific read, that’s what GOATs do.

The defense stunk today, and Baker collapsed in the biggest moment of his career.

    Both are true.

Hopefully Baker does better next time, because he failed miserably this time.

  70. BucVoyager Says:

But everyone here said Dean sucks and we should cut him. When Dean went down, that was the end.

  71. stpetebucfan Says:

Why does every body have to be such peee poor sports.
I realize the wound is fresh but can you not give some credit to the “other” guys.

Detroit is in the midst of a magical season which actually began with a turnaround last year. The Bucs are now where the Lions where last season. One more draft like last years and the Bucs will actually become contenders again.

Mayfield will never be a pimple on Tom Bradys arse career wise. But a 28 year old Mayfield who has cods the size of bowling balls IS better than a 43 year old man worrying about his health and falling at the sight of a pass rush much less what Mayfield has played through this year.

This is NOT Heresy. Do you guys really believe Tom Brady could play at GOAT level forever. The Bucs were lucky to catch his last hurrah. I just wish for his sake and the Bucs sake he would have gone out on top having made his point that he didn’t need BB to win.

  72. Bojim Says:

We had a great year. Wayyy better than expectations. We know where we need to draft. A lot of folks on this site must think the Bucs blew their chance this year and now have no confidence for next year.

  73. Boss Says:

    @st Pete

After both his hands are covered in rings I bet BB learned a thing or two about winning.

    BB to ATL
    Canales to NC
    Chucky in NO

The next 5 years will be ugly. Start stocking up on paper bags.

  74. Robert Says:

We were predicted to win 4 games. What a success this season was. Dallas won 12 games and we went further with a discarded QB. I am very proud of Baker Mayfield and this team. No quit in this team. Quit hating . Worst fan base in the NFL. Never satisfied. Had Tom Brady and tried our damndest to run Brady out of town.

  75. Chuck D Says:

Bowles isn’t getting fired after winning a home playoff game and losing a one score game in the divisional round.
Bucs need to draft a center and guard to shore up the OL. Hopefully there are good prospects at those positions in April. And draft an actual guy who was a center in college, not a guard or undersized tackle who will be cross-trained to play center.
And a cornerback who has actual ball-hawking skills would be great. Preferably a cornerback who can also play more than 10 games a season, unlike Dean and Davis, who are seriously overpaid.
I want to see how much cap space they’ll have to work with this offseason.

  76. NE Fan Says:

The overall team played well, Lions are better that’s all. I don’t get the go for 2 points . That’s a coach afraid to go into OT. The 4th & 14 game was over Godwin set pick down field that purposely wasn’t called and Baker was down on the side arm throw. The team played well just overmatched. Good season.

  77. ElioT Says:

Grass isn’t greener right now fellas.

    Accept it and let’s go!

  78. Bucs13 Says:

    Bowles isn’t it

I think this team had talent

I think they are a lot better than they show

But the HC doesn’t have it

  79. dmatt Says:

SHAQ BARRETT is damaged goods. Neal should be released asap. McCollum is still learning on the job. He doesn’t know how to use his speed. Hainsey is not starter material.Im tired of Dean, too fragile n not consistent, he dropped an easy int. Otton need to learn how to go beast mode for the ball. He caught several passes like he did last week but to reach the status of elite, you’ve gotta go for the ball n gotta catch it. How did we leave some many receivers so wide open? Baker is too experience not to know to not take a sack, throw the ball away n let’s get st least 3 points. He wants to be the hero on every play. I agree, the defense cost us the game.

  80. unbelievable Says:

Yea once Diaby and then Dean got injured, they got soft. But they still played good enough to keep us in the game.

Let’s not act like the offense didn’t blow multiple drives too. 3 sacks given up to 3 completely unblocked rushers on 3 different 3rd downs… a missed FG, pointless 2 pt conversion fail, etc

  81. Rod Munch Says:

    ElioT Says:

@Rod – Devin is finished dude

    ——-

    With the Bucs, sure.

But watch him go to the Steelers or something and then play for another 10-years, that is the most likely outcome.

Anywho, I never had any problems with him – when he’s used properly, as a pure attacking, he’s an ALL-PRO player. When he’s asked to sit back in zone, he stinks.

Oh well, if he was any good they couldn’t afford him anyways, so he was leaving in any case.

  82. CTBucs Says:

Priority is to resign AWJ, Mike and Baker. Extend Wirfs. Cut Gage, Shaq, Jensen. Draft edge, a safety and IOL. We have a young team with a lot of upside. Future is looking bright, we went way further than any of us expected. Go Bucs!

  83. Tucker Says:

With the dead cap hit they had this season it was actually kind of incredible what the bucs were able to do. As a fan you always want your team to win of course but the bucs aren’t quite there yet but a few pieces from actually being kinda scary.

  84. unbelievable Says:

That said, Zyon is NOT a starting cornerback. Keep him ant safety.

And Ryan Neal should never step foot on a football field again.

  85. firethecannons Says:

new center, guard, edge, corner (zyon mccollum is a liability), safety(ryan neal gone) return man all these positions are necessary upgrades. And do not spend a fortune on Baker.

  86. ElioT Says:

    Baker needs security against Rod.

Jesus Christ my man, let it go.

  87. Bucs since 76 Says:

If the 49ers play like then did against Green Bay they will lose to Detroit. The Bucs gave the Lions all they wanted but our defense couldn’t put pressure on Goff and we failed to figure out how to cover 87. However, Mayfield had little time to throw that was the difference in the game.

  88. Doc1955 Says:

    Cut Shaq
Get another corner and edge rusher and O Lineman

No such thing as a moral victory
BUT we have it a go

Also question at ILB going forward

  89. Saskbucs Says:

It was a good season. I have been calling for Bowles head all season but this wasn’t the game to do him in. They improved. They have a chance to be in the same position next season and I will take that as a fan. I still dont know if Bowles can get them all the way but with a couple improvements the roster should give any coach a chance.

Him and Canales made a few bad calls tonight but so did the lions. Evans blows a couple early grabs, Dean leaves the game, Bowles made a bad call on the 3rd and 15 that really hurt but bottom line is, we have seen way worse games from Bowles, Canales and the Bucs. I’m proud of the whole effort. Bowles is coming back, the future is still bright, many reasons to be optimistic. Thank you Joes, thanks for the commentary fellas. Go Bucs!

  90. I remember 21 Says:

    BOWLES let Bucs down **FTFY

This is what we’re going to get with this guy. Playing scared, no adjustments, no answers. If what he wants to do (defensive minded philosophy from the 70s) doesn’t work, we’re gonna lose. All week “Detroit’s secondary is really weak” Us: don’t throw downfield until halfway thru third qtr. So stubborn, no emotion/ motivation, pathetic. Even the announcers were getting exasperated. Our issues are SOOO obvious to even the most casual fan. This guy has less than a 42% win rate as a HC, 17-17 regular season & 1-2 playoffs with the Bucs (in worst division in the league BOTH years). Mediocre to below mediocre at best. And the Eagles are talking about firing a coach that went to the SB last season! 😂 What is the reason for that discrepancy? 🤔

    #stillFIREbowles #stillNOconfidence

  91. Gipper Says:

Baker haters hope you get your wish and Baker signs with Steelers. He was under constant pressure all day and made one mistake at the end of game. Defense was shredded all day yet somehow it’s Baker’s fault with 3td’s and over 300 yards in two consecutive playoff games. Pretty sure that passing route was supposed to be in front of the zone and Otton just got too deep. Mayfield will never hang that on Otton but to knowledgeable football types that looks like Otto got to deep. Need to sit down in front of the zone defenders.

  92. CotneyLynch33 Says:

Considering where the team was at 4-7 you can’t piss and moan about what they did. They were up and down this season but came together when they needed to. Very few gave them a chance at all, they need a few more players in areas but they did a hell of a job!! So many that post here get it and there are some that have no idea what it is to be a true fan! Proud of the BUCS!!!!

  93. HC Grover Says:

Note….Plan 9 was in it on the Lions scores….He may be an NFL Spy.

  94. Doc1219 Says:

    Cut Shaq
Get another corner and edge rusher and O Lineman

No such thing as a moral victory
BUT we have it a go

Also question at ILB going forward

  95. Saskbucs Says:

I have no idea if they will have the cap space after resigning their own guys, which I prioritize except for D.White, but they need to swing for Hunter or Allen or one of the top FA edge rushers. If that isn’t possible the best FA C, if they can’t land an Edge, C or top G, than spending the money on King Henry would be fine by me.

  96. Tbbucs3 Says:

Baker is being universally praised all over NFL social media and national media

Yet Rod Dunce is on an island saying he “failed miserably”

No Rod, your football IQ is what has failed miserably

  97. Doc1219 Says:

    Plan 9 ie trash

  98. Gipper Says:

Goff had great time to throw all day. Baker did not but Bucs still made a game out of it.

  99. Couch Fan Says:

Mayfield did fail miserably. Or was that not him that had a chance to tie the game at the end but threw a horrible pick. That was him right? Tiny little guy?

  100. NE Fan Says:

Gipper, Goff can read a D better, calling oline schemes live, Baker doesn’t have the starting experience for that yet. Don’t forget Goff played under McVay.

  101. Gipper Says:

    RodMunch,

Now for sure I know you don’t know what you are talking about. The game ending INT resulted because Otton got too deep into zone coverage. That play was designed for Otton to sit down IN FRONT of the defenders but instead he got too deep. Mayfield will take the heat for Otton because he is not the kind to throw a teammate under the bus.

  102. BucEmUp Says:

It boils down to two different perspectives. One, you say Bowles did good enough to make the playoffs and it’s hard to warrant firing a coach who won the NFL South and you bring him back which will never yield another super bowl. Two – you acknowledge that this team wouldn’t have made the playoffs in any other division and you make a change if you want to sniff another super bowl.

Todd, nothing personal but your just not going to get the job done. There are other candidates with higher ceilings and we’ve got to move forward

  103. Rod Munch Says:

Tbbucs3 – It’s you Baker Bois that he’s on-par or better than Brady, Mahomes, Brees — not me.

Baker was fine today, he’ll be back next year, but he’s not special, he’s just a guy who need an outstanding defense to win him games. Nothing wrong with that, until you start claiming he’s on-par with HOF’ers.

Hopefully next year he can be a lot more consistent, and you guys stop building him up like he’s the greatest QB to ever play the game.

  104. Wow Says:

Do those things and even with the hard schedule they are looking at a division title and 11 win season.

Jason Licht’s mom, are you posting again?

Can you pass that smoke over here. I would like to have what your havin.

5-12 next year. It will all crumble to nothing next year. Stadium will be empty

  105. Oxycondomns Says:

Nfc east is worst division in football

  106. Tom Says:

And TODD BOWLES is in charge of the D! He’s milk toast, luke warm, needs to GO!!!

  107. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Great season. We don’t need Shaq, we don’t need White. We do need Baker.

    10000000 percent correct

  109. Bucinator Says:

Duh, not many QB ‘s have had the ability of the goat! Let’s give Baker Mayfield some credit. Something like 7 coaches in 3 years and still he is able to take the Bucs to the last 2minutes of a playoff game? I wanted to believe in Todd bowl’s all season and he almost had me on his bandwagon towards the end. However, I do believe we need a better head coach. Bring someone in that will meld with Baker Mayfield and let’s see what happens next season.

  110. Chris Says:

Great season. Lots of needs to fill with those late round draft picks.

  111. optimisticbucsfan Says:

    Shaq is uncutable.

    Godwin is uncutable.

    Licht mortgaged the future.

Someone needs to reel him in before he does it again.

    Tired of dead cap money.

  112. Vea's Second Stomach Says:

Everyone on the team fought til the very end. Except Todd Bowles. He gave up on his team at the very end. I was ok with keeping him but that lack of a timeout at the end should cost him his job. Did the Chiefs give up with 17 seconds to go against the bills? Now they won a superbowl. Dude has no business as a head coach.

Tbbucs3 – It’s you Baker Bois that he’s on-par or better than Brady,

    —-

NO one has ever said brady was not the goat. You’ve been peddling that lie for weeks. Some ( like the Joes) did compare him at 40 plus to Baker merely because tthats the QB that baker replaced.

    Standard practice.

  114. orlbucfan Says:

Bunch of you yahoos need to vamoose. You’re on here cos Joe needs $$clicks. Bucs weren’t ready for a Stupid Bowl in Vegas—barfo location. Defense did not play well. Lions’ unit are deadassed UGLY. Who bribes the teams to weae those godawful threads?? Bucs only lost by 8? Amazing. Anywho, getting set to sign off until preseason 2024. Go Monster Bucs!!

  115. orlbucfan Says:

    Lions unis

  116. J.J.swat Says:

They had to play turn over free football and as we know that didn’t happen.

The defense had to be stout and get pressure. They didn’t.

To win that game would of taken a near flawless execution as
Detroit has much more defensive and offensive talent.

Had to make every field goal attempt. That didn’t happen.

Overall I’m proud of these guys. All of th

  118. K_bassuka Says:

Or maybe it was Maybefield not been good enough to play consistently well! “Special” players don’t need a great defense to win.

  119. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

I don’t think the defense lost the game. My opinion is the 2 point attempt was the killer. I don’t care about the favorable odds of doing it. When it failed, it ruined all the momentum gained by the TD.

Still after all is said and done, it was a great game. Exciting all the way to the last minute. Only thing better would have been a Bucs win.

Thanks for an interesting and fun year!

Naaa it wasn’t the defense. It was the interception by Baker at the end of the game. How many interceptions Tom Brady throw when the game was on the line? ZERRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Brady finished his last game completing 35 of 66 pass attempts, just two attempts short of the all-time record,[33] for 351 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception

    WRONG

  121. Bucsfan007 Says:

Joe – Tampa has the worst fan base period! Bandwagonera most of them!

  122. Nick Says:

Dean dropped the easiest pick of the year. Vita was non-existent. Was Diaby hurt, he looked rough in the second half. Winfield made zero plays. Then we left McCollum 1-on-1 on the most consistent receiver in the NFL. Baker stared down at free defenders and surrendered sacks all game, then got happy feet later in the game. That was atypical for all of these guys. If your stars don’t show up, you lose.

Neal is the worst tackling safety I’ve ever seen. But that has been the norm, so I listed that separately.

  123. Fred Says:

    J. Dean. Announcers like him. Not so much for me. Too bad the defense wasn’t prepared today. Gotta lame it on Bowles.

Ok everybody we can agree that the above is “Good David” Can tell because this David didn’t use the word “trash” once. Good David, please get a new handle nest season. You can’t afford to ever be mistaken for “Trash David.”

  125. optimisticbucsfan Says:

    we absolutely overachieved this yr

    hats off to the bucs

  126. StickinUp4Centers Says:

Winfield was quiet in both playoff games.

  127. Tbbucs3 Says:

Anyone with half a brain knows when Baker is being compared to Brady its 2022 Brady that he’s being compared to….

Theres not a single QB ever whos been better than Brady in his prime.

But the Bucs absolutely upgraded at the QB position from what Tom was last season.

  128. Since 76 Says:

Team way overachiever. Why people are sour is their own decision. I have lived through decades of supporting awful bucs teams. Happy bucs are in the mix regularly of late. Tougher schedules by winning the division are paying off.

  129. Since 76 Says:

    I meant overachieved

  130. Bucs96NYC Says:

Can’t put this lose on the defense sorry. The offense didn’t Tage advantage of sooo many given by the defense till the 4th qrt. I think they just ran outta gas. Offense should’ve been up on this soft defense.

I’ll say, the Bucs hung w/ these guys & really outplayed them most of the game. They need to add a few more pieces & get rid of some (Devin White).

White gave up the Reynolds TD & a few plays before that he didn’t get back in his zone on the TE catch over the middle. As soon as he gave up the TD we barely saw him again. He’s gone!

  131. Eli Says:

The Lions must have watched our Eagles game because they did to us on defense what we did to the Eagles. Our defense was a shadow of the Eagles game. The Lions blitz could not be stopped. Does Canary Bird not know how to adjust to a non stop blitz when dialing up plays to counter?

  132. Fred Says:

    Fire Bowles.

  133. T V Says:

Todd Bowles really needs to consider a defensive coordinator. Maybe a co-defensive coordinator alongside Todd Bowles. Somebody up top in the box that has significant influence. Todd Bowles HAS to get a better grip on the management of the game. Officials, clock, personell, media, sideline, athletic trainer/medical updates, etc. The scope of game day tasks should be re-evaluated. The talent and chemistry is in the building!

  134. Kelly Bowman Says:

Just like when they played them in the regular season, the pathetic Buccaneer secondary blew the game. You cannot stop a successful passing game by tackling the receiver after he catches the ball and that’s all the Buc’s secondary did in both games against them . Yo need to get in front, intercept, break up the play, disrupt it, knock the ball down or away, you can’t simply wait and make the tackle after the damage is done. GO FOR THE BALL DAMMIT!

  135. chickster Says:

I just do not think Mayfield can take us anywhere but average i just do not see it he was awlful in the first half and the play calling was the same .

  136. Armando Says:

One HUGE problem is that Jameel Dean and Carlton Davis cannot playa full season, they may be good in coverage but as we saw with Dean they never intercept and can’t stay on the field

  137. RustyRhinos Says:

“Tired of playing not to lose instead of being aggressive.” Is a bad aggressive play a good thing? Field position game is that playing not to lose? Play to score and keep the other team from scoring. Does anyone just play to lose? correct me if I am wrong here, but three deep incomplete passes still make it 4th down, or have I missed something?

  138. DS Says:

Did anyone mention the hold on VV on that touchdown run?

  139. Johnny K Says:

All season long everything our secondary started playing bad, Dean and Davis would get hurt and leave the game.

  140. Calogero Says:

The result can be summarized as follows: When the plan is to throw it to a certain receiver no matter what, even if that receiver is double covered and other receivers are open. That is what I saw when Baker threw his last interception. My advice as a nobody is for Baker, with the help of the coaches and staff, to work on exercises that expannd his scoping ability, especially under pressure.
