Lions 31, Buccaneers 23

January 21st, 2024

The defense didn’t have enough.

Damn, that was exciting. It was fun for a while, but ultimately the Bucs got kicked in teeth today in Detroit by a high-octane offense that they probably had little chance of stopping the entering the game.

Joe is sad and proud and feeling punched in the gut all at the same time.

This wild roller coaster season is over.

On the Ira Kaufman Podcast, Joe predicted a Bucs loss because of their leaky pass defense. Yeah, it was tight against the Panthers and Eagles, but those are JV offenses compared to the Lions’. The Bucs’ weak four-man pass rush got exposed over time today, and the house caved in when Jamel Dean was lost to an injury and Zyon McCollum replaced him at cornerback.

With the game tied at 10 at halftime, Joe was damn proud of the Bucs’ weathering the thunderous crowd in Ford Field and staying poised. Man, if only Jamel Dean had held on to that sure end zone interception and Mike Evans hadn’t played volleyball with a first-quarter Baker Mayfield pass.

Still, the Bucs overcame those plays and were toe-to-toe with the Lions.

Joe could nitpick all night and will — 12 yards for Chris Godwin until late in the fourth quarter? — but Joe is going to take a breath here.

The Bucs looked like a very good playoff team, and that’s a heck of an accomplishment when you consider where this franchise was in August and November.

It came down to the final drive. And the Bucs and Baker Mayfield came up short.

Stick with Joe all evening long for so much out of this game.

    Fire Todd Bowles!

    ——

Thanks to the Eagles collapse, there is no chance of that happening.

  16. Rusty Shackleford Says:

Detroit will DESTROY the 69ers next week. They are the class of the NFC and the Bucs aren’t too far behind them.

  17. Idiots Says:

I really hate you fans. This team was projected to win 4 or 5 games and instead they win the division and a playoff game and all you cry babies wann do is bellyache.

Bunch of bit Ch. As. S. Fans.

    You really are pathetic.

Congrats on a good season Bucs.

  18. Casey Says:

He’s the most conservative coach I know period

  19. NJbucs23 Says:

Bye bye Baker. You were never my guy.

    Fun season. But damn it.

  20. heyjude Says:

At least we got this far. Everyone early on counted us out. We got in the playoffs. That counts for so much. Now they can concentrate on next season.

  21. Sacker58 Says:

The bucs waited too long to try n open it up.

  22. SteveK Says:

Barf. Fart. Burp. Poop in my pants. We shat ourselves and puked at the same time.

  23. Architek Says:

    Baker is always gon’ Mayfield.

The offense ran out of answers and the defense needs a facelift.

  24. Fred Says:

Too bad they weren’t prepared. What a great time to get rid of. Bowles.

  25. Tye Says:

Better than expected BUT same result from a Bowels coached team…

Not even a defensive ‘guru’ any longer…
    Tampa deserves a BETTER HC!

  26. Show Me the TDs Says:

    Baker sucks!

  27. TheBucsAnthem Says:

CAN WE PLEASE FIRE TODD BOWLES NOW THE SEASON IS FINALLOVER!!!!??????

  28. Chrisonthecape Says:

He is incompetent, does he get paid a bonus for keeping his timeouts?

  29. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Sucks, now they have to live with the gut punch all offseason…maybe that will be motivation for next year. A lot of big decisions about personnel for next year. Maybe the offense will be better and the defense becomes better too. Maybe

  30. Jack Clark Says:

Lions are gonna get ran over by the 49ers just like we were so no worries

  31. Rusty Shackleford Says:

Every hater here has a worthless life.

Baaaad throw . Just trying to do too mch too fast playing agains the clock.

  33. Cobraboy Says:

This game was won and lost on the OLs.

    Bucs need stout C/Gs.

    Sad but not disappointed.

  34. Casey Says:

Why didn’t we blitz all game wtf was that defense of plan today to have vea and tryon in pass coverage wtf Bowles idiot

  35. Dom Says:

Why didn’t they call a timeout on 4th down? If they miss the FG or you block it, you get the ball back with like 30 seconds left. I know it’s a long shot but you got the opportunity

  36. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

VERY VERY Proud of our Bucs today. Just came up a little short is all. I hope there will be a large contingent of fans at the airport to welcome them home from Detroit.

  37. BucNasty Says:

Baker is the best QB we’ve had in over a decade not named Tom Brady

  38. David Says:

Question why didn’t the bucs call timeout on 3rd and 12 at the end. Lions couldn’t kneel. Sure, they could have kicked a field goal but they COULD have missed. What am I missing?

  39. Richard Dickson Says:

People were predicting we’d win 4 or 5 games. People said we were tanking for Caleb Williams. People were saying we were done when we lost 6 of 7. People said we weren’t getting past the Eagles. People said we were going to get blown out by the Lions. And yet there we were with the ball and a chance to tie it. Yeah, this sucks, but this season was an unexpected surprise. There’s stuff to fix, but things are not as dire as they seemed five or six months ago.

  40. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

I can’t believe how many stupid people are on this site. What a tremendous year for our Bucs. We went toe to toe with them. Incredible to think there are dopes on this site who don’t want to resign Baker. Ridiculous!

  41. HeavyE Says:

We have to clean House….. get rid of all of these SOFT A$$ Players!!!

  42. Casey Says:

Tampa was out coached today period

  43. dbbuc711 Says:

Pathetic defense with no pressure on the QB

  44. Zman Says:

Just like the JW years, no D and running game. Pass rush can fix some dB issues and the running game MUST be fixed to advance

  45. Jack Clark Says:

Todd Bowles defense really needs one or two good pass rushers, and our offense really needs interior offensive linemen who are good at run blocking. Then we can make another super bowl run! Go Bucs!

  46. JA Says:

The great ones don’t throw that pass. And the great coaches adjust to the countless wide open passes in the middle.
I want a better QB and coach.
Or can be argued that the QB and Coach are good.
    Find, but I want better.

  47. nwbucsfan Says:

couldn’t control the line of scrimmage on either side. simple as that

  48. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Baker player fantastic today

The poor pass defense thats plagued this team all year is the reason we lost

  49. Chuckys Bucs Says:

    Jack Clark Says:

Baker Mayfield sucks! 😆 Our needs for next year are pass rushers and interior offensive linemen! Go Bucs!

    686 Yards
    6 TDs
    2 INTs

Not to mention the countless scramble

You my friend are a troll

  50. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Sorry,

    But Don’t blame Baker

Baker was under siege all night long and he’s the only reason escaping blitz that the Bucs even had a chance!!!

    Baker isn’t the problem…….BOWLES IS!!!!

  51. BucsBeast Says:

Would be in that position if the Defense didn’t give up 31 dang points.

  52. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Jack, let me help you, “get RUN over.”

  53. Mike C Says:

    GO BUCS!!!

  54. Truth Teller Says:

Thank you, Baker! WE SHOULD HAVE WON THAT GAME. This team is a QB away. They better not pay Baker He will never pay well enough to win a Super Bowl. Pay Mike Evans!!!

  55. Zman Says:

    Yes we were outcoached.
    No pass rush for years..

  56. SteveK Says:

That was a bad game by our WRs and CBs. Not impressed. Evans was solid had a couple drops. Godwin, where the hell were you?

Dean and David make north or $10 million and make zero impact plays. They’re maybe a tick above average. No thanks.

I’m pissed off and sad and a little mad. We maybe wouldn’t win, but definitely should’ve shown out better.

Hopefully we can make a big change or two and not just stand pat. Our WR/CBs (outside of Evans ) can all go.

  57. rickym Says:

Bucs git whipped at the line of scrimmage. No pass rush and nopass blocking = defeat. Bucs must sign Mayfield as he is the only reason for this very successful season. Let ME13 walk. He has made crucial drops in keymoments his whole career but this year was especially brutal.

  58. LongSeason Says:

Lions deserved to win. They brought it. We didn’t. Congrats to Lions.
Their D-line and pass rush is excellent. Our pass blocking needs improvement.
    GO LIONS!

  59. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Exactly

The DEFENSE is the Problem…….FIRE BOWLES!!!

  60. Usfbucs Says:

Dropped passes, missed blitzes, and bad calls by coaches. The Bucs could have won this game if they had executed properly, in spite of the bad calls.

  61. NolesGotRobbed Says:

    Fire Bowles

  62. Daniel Dream Says:

    Dang… that sux
We fought hard until the end. Too many mistakes to overcome but we had a great run when no one gave us a chance this season and we showed this is a team for the future. Let’s nail the draft and use our improving cap situation to make the improvements necessary so we can get back to the Superbowl next season! Go Bucs!

  63. MadMax Says:

All good….nobody expected us to make it this far and that was a damn good game. Still proud of my Bucs!

  64. Tbbucs3 Says:

How many times is Ryan Neal gonna get exposed before Bowles realizes he’s terrible?

  65. JA Says:

    Fine

  66. Davenport Says:

Despite all the cheerleaders, this was not a good season. They player poorly most of it and lost games they shouldnt have.

Yes they won a playoff gave against a team that had already quit on their season.

With Bowles back, it’ll be more of the same.

  67. Jerseybuc Says:

Defense didn’t coma out after half. All good team played its ass off!!! Sign our keys players have another good draft Bucs take the division again n let’s go. Good game against one of the best in the league. Still sucks though

  68. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Great season. No one expected it.

  69. Surfslowson Says:

The Bucs played good, if you take away the few mistakes, we win easy. Lions made the plays and not the mistakes. Go Bucs!! We actually have money to spend but a lot of players to spend it on.

  70. Curse of Gruden Says:

$40 million a year to Baker!

  71. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Release Shaq Barrett…….ZERO pash rush pressure all night long

  72. Let ‘em bake Says:

Surprised they didn’t work the sideline more… he did a Jordan love…

  73. Tbbucs3 Says:

Lol to this team is a QB away statement

The QB is one of the few bright spots on this team

Agree with all of that. Finished top 8. Knocked off the conference champions and were a few plays away from winning that one.

  76. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The Bucs just made wayyyyyy too many mistakes

  77. BucEmUp Says:

Wide open recievers all game, zero protection for baker, Goff had all day to throw. Bowles defense exposed against a top offense as usual. Keep everyone but Bowles on to next season

  78. ElioT Says:

    Proud of the team.

Re-sign all and let’s see what happens in 2024.

As*h**** saying different are not in touch with reality.

  79. T. McGee Says:

We just watched the 2006 Seahawks with Matt Hassleback. No one remembers their Wild Card win either. Middle of mediocre.

  80. Couch Fan Says:

Im fine with Mayfield back next season but we desperately need a new coach. I dont know how much more we need to see of the same stubborness. Not using Evans until the end of the game is inexcuseable.

  81. unbelievable Says:

They had chances. A few too many miscues were the difference, along with some critical injuries to defensive guys Diaby, Dean, Mayweather) as they game went on.

Overall it was a good game though. They didn’t come out flat, didn’t get bullied around, and kept it close.

    I can live with that.

  82. Tdub850 Says:

Get to watch Todd Bowles call Defense for another year…. Yay

  83. Ricki Says:

Bowles needs to go. No future with him.

  84. Temp Bucs Fan Says:

Ran too much first half, missed FG, slow tempo offense, and terrible middle field defense. Just about everything that could go wrong, did. Mayfield was pretty good, except that final play, but he really needed the Oline to step up and they didn’t. More or less on the coordinators and coaches. This also seems to follow the NFL narrative.

  85. StormyInFl Says:

I wish Bowles was gone. Thanks to the Eagles falling apart and making Bowles look better than he is, he won’t be. We’ll waste another year of our lives watching this clown ‘coach’.

  86. Usfbucs Says:

I say bring back Baker and the other main FAs. Redo/restructure some contracts, cut a few guys, focus on d line, secondary, and o line this off-season.

  87. HeavyE Says:

    Let’s Go BUCS!!!!

  88. Tbbucs3 Says:

And agree Shaq Barrett needs to go….he hasnt dione a single thing since week 4

  89. D Cone Says:

Game was in Mayfield’s hands. Great numbers against soft coverage.
Vacation. Re-sign Start the fight for 3rd in NFC South.

  90. Todd Says:

The “Fire Bowles” crowd are not original thinkers. Lazy. Logic is not your gift.

  91. BucsBeast Says:

Bowles completely forgot to make halftime adjustments.

  92. stpetebucfan Says:

    Cobra for the win!

“This game was won and lost on the OLs.

    Bucs need stout C/Gs.

    Sad but not disappointed.”

I would only add we lost BOTH sides of the trenches today. There is no shame!
The Bucs were whipped by the better team in their jam packed Dome.

Baker had NO time…Goff had TONS of time…it’s a simple as that.

But let’s be real the Bucs are not the better team YET…but they are clearly very close.

Next draft…BPA through the first four rounds looking for OL and DL!

  93. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Baker deserves a contract…… he earned it

Baker was the only reason the Nucs even had a chance tonight

    Blame the Defense

    FIRE BOWLES!!!!!

  94. Tbbucs3 Says:

And no Bowles does not need to go, Licht needs to get Bowles better players on defense to work with

  95. Rjscheapseats Says:

Usual influx of loser fans – trolls really – geniuses who never thought the team would get as far as it did – and now in a sigh of relief come to celebrate.

To anyone with a reasonable grasp of football, the Bucs did themselves proud – and Bowles took a team in salary cap hell to a very competitive Divisional playoff game.

  96. NE Fan Says:

C’mon Bucs hung in to the 3rd qtr. The rest was prevent garbage time. Not sure why they didn’t run Gibbs more, he can motor. Detriot has.one of the best O’s in the league. Had me fooled thought you might just pull it off. Hood season Bucs fans, the D front 7 is far better than last season. Good luck in 2024!!

  97. BringBucsBack Says:

Proud & more than we expected but man, everyone needs an exorcism & lots of practice catching balls. When we caught, we scored. Davis appears to be the very definition of brick-hands. Baker has to calm himself. He was throwing high & hard. Maybe we look to score sooner, next year!? Pass-rush??

I guess that could have been worse.

  98. Jerry Says:

    I don’t know.

I still feel like we only got this far because the rest of the division sucks and the Eagles had a historic collapse. I don’t really see the season as being all that great of an accomplishment. They didn’t beat any real strong team all year. There are serious questions and holes all over the roster. And the OL is not good at all.

  99. BucsBeast Says:

Defensive guru shouldn’t give up 31 points

  100. Dom Says:

Baker wasn’t a problem today. He was a solution. Played a good game and fought for 60 minutes. He deserves to be the QB of this team next year. Bucs got to find a pass rusher and shore up the interior of the O-Line. Hell of a season for the Bucs. No one expected them to get this far. Looking forward to see what the front office can do without the 80 million dollars in dead cap.

  101. DmanTX Says:

Hard fought, we just couldn’t sustain. Hats off to the Lions line as we just couldn’t make Jared uncomfortable. Baker and the O came alive in though . Sad we lost but excited about our future as we should be better next season provided we re-sign Baker and Evans and a few others. Go Bucs! Proud of the team.

  102. Bob the Biggum Says:

Licht my Bowles has to go. Fire them both.

  103. godlovesbucs Says:

Wow. I have not been part of the “baker is our guy” mafia. But he is not why they lost today. Aside from the last pick he played very well. He played a great game overall.
The d was beat up in the middle of the field all game, but we’re playing ok until dean got hurt. I will never understand why they had zyon mccollum covering amon ra when dean went out. That was such a a bad decision and it was obvious they targeted him. They allowed 31 points, that’s how you lose a game. The offense had 23 points with a missed fg and no turnover help from the d.

The d (and Bowles) lost the game.

  104. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    I agree

The Lions were the better team…..they deserve the win

    NOW FIRE BOWLES!!!!!

  105. HeavyE Says:

If Baker stays, we still need to get a QB, for the Future!!! Let’s Go BUCS!!!!

  106. mark2001 Says:

Have to sign Baker to a long term contract. Then Wirfs. After that, Winfield. And beyond that, hopefully Evans. But there won’t be a top QB at 26. And doubt anyone as good as Baker will be out there.

  107. Boss Says:

    todd bowles fired!

  108. Francisco Guzman Says:

Baker is good though only when the pressure is not there in the end to tie the game.

  109. Hunter Says:

    “Todd Says:
    January 21st, 2024 at 6:19 pm
The “Fire Bowles” crowd are not original thinkers. Lazy. Logic is not your gift.”

Agreed. This man deserves so much more for what the season became.

Now, apparently we had a timeout we could have used after they kneeled on 3rd down, but I think he was saving it out of “respect” or didn’t want to get beat by 11? lol

  110. ElioT Says:

I’ve talked negative on Todd for a while, but I’m okay with him here for 24.

Need to see the Bucs dominate the division and then some in 2024!

  111. heyjude Says:

Sadly, this may be Mike Evans last game with us. I could see him going to the Texans or Cowboys. I hope we can keep him because he and Baker do click. They play hard. Next year could be our year to go all the way.

  112. Mike S Says:

What a choke job at the end

  113. Hunter Says:

Bowles and Mayfield will be back people. I just hope Canales doesn’t get taken

  114. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Yeah

    Mike Evans is gone

And Devin White is gone too

  115. Colonel Angus Says:

Bowles ain’t getting fired, and nor should he. Team played hard to finish the season. They could have went into vacation mode at 4-7. Players gotta make them clutch plays. Make that pick in the endzone, hit that FG and it’s a different game.

  116. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Well, big thank you to the team and staff. They did not suck, showed a lot of heart, did not embarrass me for rooting for them. Made my life a little better watching them overcome adversity. Gave me something to look forward to in a crappy year. Thank you Bucs, love you all

  117. adam from ny Says:

dam joe…everything you said was spot on…

fun, intriguing, season tho…a heck of a season we witnessed

  118. Confido75 Says:

Bucs did good and beat expectations. Yes, there are things that need to improve, but lots of goodness to build upon. We found a QB and now have all the cap space Brady’s salary took up free now. For all the people saying blow it up, that is not going to happen. Bowles will be the HC next year. He won the division and a playoff game with a team I thought would not get 7 wins. He saved his job, so unless the Glazers decide to hire Belichick, he is staying. BTW, I am not a Bowles fan, but give the man his due.

  119. ModHairKen Says:

Great turnaround by Bowles. One of the best QB seasons ever by Mayfield.

Good job. Be glad to see both back next year.

As for the clowns who wrote “Fire Bowles” or blaming Baker, you are cancers.

  120. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The Bucs need good offensive lineman…..they got owned today

  121. Hunter Says:

Devin White is def gone unless nobody wants to give him anything more than a 1 year deal and then he may be back, but unlikely

  122. Duane in Sanford Says:

This team overachieved, and caught breaks at the right times. There were times when it wasnt even watchable, but we should be able to agree that it got better. Draft a true center, and reload on the defense. Tell Dean to take a pay cut and move him to safety. Take care Buc fans.

  123. Marco Says:

Baker has all the heart in the world he simply just doesn’t have the skill. This team is a head coach and a quarter back away from great things. This game was totally on the quarter back

  124. Mr. Editor Says:

The Bucs hung in there until the bitter end. Now that the season is over, the dead cap money is now behind the organization, so I hope that they get some interior offensive line help in free agency and the draft. The Bucs will look different on defense next year without David (retirement?) and White (cut), among others. A young team will get even younger. They’ll just have to find another way to win.

  125. Rick Brooks Says:

I am beyond proud of this team, and how hard they fought this season. Overcoming the salary cap problem and playing so many rookies, with a new offensive coordinator and quarterback has set the stage for a great season next year! I hope Baker, Mike Evans, and Lavonte are back with the team, and Jason can continue to improve the roster. The future looks right! Go Bucs!

  126. Stevo Says:

Brady would have won that, but the organization thought they were better.

  127. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

And all you crabby ass phonies can suck it.

  128. Hunter Says:

    “TheBucsAnthem Says:
    January 21st, 2024 at 6:23 pm
The Bucs need good offensive lineman…..they got owned today”

THIS!! Baker has been killing it when given anything close to the time that Goff got today. There’s a reason why the trenches are most important other than your QB for a team’s success.

  129. mark2001 Says:

I’m no Bowles apologist. But have to say the coaching staff got all that could be expected out of this team, this year. Looking to next year, with a loss of some fine talent, and not with an enviable draft position, I don’t know what the best strategy is…

  130. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Stop with the greater than expected crap. Doesn’t matter what everyone expected the team under performed against good teams and did not play complimentary football all year. It all rolls down hill HC/DC, OC, QB offense and defense

  131. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The Bucs were in the worst division in football……they wouldn’t have made the playoffs if they played in any other division.

    NOW FIRE BOWLES 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

  132. Ted Says:

Resign Baker fine, but I can’t watch Bowles anymore. Everyone saying what a wonderful year it was has to acknowledge that the NFC so was historically terrible and the Bucs benefited from playing so many weak teams. The Bucs can’t count on the rest of the division being garbage forever. If the Falcons and Panthers finally make good hires and the Bucs keep Bowles it will set the Bucs back years. Just ask a Texans fan what a good coaching hire and drafting the right QB can do for a city and franchise.

  133. UKBuccaneer Says:

If you’re blaming the QB, you should probably turn to hockey or baseball or something else that might be more easily understood.

  134. BucfaninMi Says:

Fire Licht??? Really??? Dumba$$ comment. He didn’t give of 15 yard chunks in the 4th quarter, or drop any passes

  135. Daniel Dream Says:

We were screwed when Dean went down with injury. Dang we still could’ve won it though. We just had to many mistakes through the course of the game but we still fought and almost won it. I’m disappointed we didn’t advance but I’m still excited about the future of the team because this team will be back next season and better than ever!

  136. Jack Clark Says:

Losing by one score is losing with honor, hold your head up Bucs fans!

  137. RuKa Says:

This team exceeded expectations, and for that I am very proud! No one gave us a chance and we played in the 2nd round of the playoffs. It is an amazing achievement.

The problem for our future is: the D continues to be a problem! In 5 seasons with Todd as DC (even as HC he is still calling the D) we had 1 stretch of 8 games where the D lived up to Todd’s Guru status: the run towards the SB. And that was 4 years ago! Same old breakdowns, same old conversions allowed on 3rd and (very) long, same old WRs and TEs roaming absolutely uncontested in the middle of the field, same old disappearing act when a play is needed. If Todd can’t make the D our strength how can he take us to another SB?…

  138. Herbiebuc Says:

I predicted a ten win season that’s what we got I’m not mad I’m proud how hard this team fought I think anybody that says they want baker gone after this season should be put in jail ! I tried my hardest to defend bowels but to keep punting on 4th n 1 but then decided to go for two confuses me ! Other than that we need to start figuring out how we’re going to keep Evans David Winfield. Last if 2nd and long stop by David was his last play for the Bucs it exemplifies how great lavontae David has been for us

  139. Tucker Says:

Proud of the team what a season had me so frustrated alot of the season but they proved they belong in the playoffs just a few players from being a serious Contender

  140. Goforthefsce30 Says:

Look at these effeminate men on here taking weird victory laps. Let’s unpack the mentality of you fetal alcohol syndrome babies:

1: Baker threw for 350 yards and he is the reason the Bucs even had a chance to win, because lord knows they couldn’t identify corner blitzes to save their life and the defense couldn’t get any stops when it mattered the most.

    2. The Bucs were a c^nt hair from the NFC championship game. You lost any and all privileges for “I told you so’s” You entitled miserable fat f’s would likely throw confetti in the air even if they made it all the way to the superbowl and lost it. This team wouldnve been 4-13 with Trask losers.
    3. Baker is getting himself a nice deal, and will be here for the foreseeable future. As such, I take great satisfaction knowing how miserable your life will be next yr and the year after

  141. Juan from Argentina Says:

Great year. Bring Mike, Lavonte, Antoine and Baker back. Reload and try next year

  142. Mike Johnson Says:

Bucs fought. The game went like I thought it would. No need to be mad. We went further than last year. And last year we had the great Tom Brady. Give Mayfield a contract. And find us a pass rush next year.

  143. BucfaninMi Says:

Considering most had the Bucs only winning 4 or 5 games, they overachieved with a lot of dead cap space and not so good o-line.

  144. IE Buc Says:

Baker will never be consistent and disciplined enough to win ever. All he has is flashes. Goff was cool under pressure and executed. Trask can be like Goff if he is ever given a chance. Baker is not worth 20 million let alone 40 million.

  145. UKBuccaneer Says:

If you’re happy dipping baker and keeping this secondary, I’ve got a bridge you might be interested in buying.

  146. MegaFailure Says:

bucs were lucky the nfc south sucked yet again this season, that wont last forever. also, very lucky the bucs played a horrible eagles team in the first round. horrible record against winning teams, and never freaking scored an opening drive touchdown all season. like how crazy is that

  147. Sooners1 Says:

Yeah keep blaming Baker you stupid MFrs the line wasn’t blocking and receivers dropping passes that are usually caught, come one he had a good game.
Where the heck was the DEFENSE????? A high school QB could pick them apart and make those open passes.
Blame someone blame the defense and O line not Baker.
They went further than y’all thought at the beginning of the season so quit your crying, you puss ass chumps!!!!!

  148. Francisco Guzman Says:

The bucs best W this year was against who? I would say the packers on the road. That’s about it. They need some many things right now. They need OL and a competent DL player.

  149. Mike S Says:

People don’t understand what this season did.

Now with “Choke Artist” Mayfield and “I Never Call A Time Out” Bowles doing good enough to come back in 2024 this team is doomed for more mediocrity.

Don’t count of the NFC South being this bad next season. The “win the division by default” window is now closed.

  150. Mike S Says:

Chucky in NO and Belichick in Atlanta…

There will be a 11+ win team in the division next year.

Put Trask, or Goff, or Brady for that matter behind this o-line and see how they fare.

  153. mark2001 Says:

Dave…you really thought this was a Superbowl competing team? Only in Tampa Bay. I’m saying anyone thinking they would get to or beyond the Division championship game was, in many ways, wishful thinking. Frankly, that is why I harped on the draft situation. I think Licht is doing well in drafting talent. But how many years can a team lose talent and rebuild with mid to lower draft picks each round. Not like we are the Packers, with 5 picks in the first three rounds, a young team, with only likely to lose a RB or underachieving corner in FA.

  154. Zoocomics Says:

I’m shocked of how many aholes on this site. Unbelievable what we accomplished this year, and Bowles needs to get fired, still…and Baker choked. What pathetic group of aholes EVERYONE of you are, just want to bitch about something. Tell you what, find another team to root for, seriously…damn I’m glad this as far as I’ll ever get to know any of you. Just embarrassed. You guys are like the Dallas fans breaking a f-ing TV on tiktok. Grow up.

We took on a 5 loss team in their house, we punched them in the mouth. Be happy we showed up. Next season, it appears we got QB, we have offensive coordinator, def will be fine when we re-load. Jesus this fan base and their venting.

  155. DBS Says:

Our kicker choked too. If the defense stops 1 TD and the field goal is made we are not in desperation mode. But as usual our secondary got exposed again. On top of the Blitz pick ups being missed.

  156. Bucfan1988 Says:

    Now my 2 cents…..

PLEASE STOP with the clown saying Mike Evans is done. He ain’t going nowhere…he’ll be resigned……

Defensive line went TURTLE in the 2nd half…..Pash rush was anemic mostly…..Not enough pressure on Goff….

    Run defense fit issues by LB’s also started occurring late in 3rd/4th quarter….;

We need to fix our O-line (new Center & Left Gaurd…Mauck will hit weight room in the off-season)…

The team definitely improved overall though…
Had their chances in this game but came up short

  157. Goforthefsce30 Says:

IE buc- trask couldn’t even dress on game day half the time. He couldn’t even beat out Blaine Gabbert. You big dumb fat goofy Gator fan.

You quite literally cannot make a cogent argument to counter top 10 stats in every category and his outstanding two games in the playoffs. No, you’re not allowed to have an opinion – because it is just that stupid

  158. Beeej Says:

    Belichick without Brady? Sub .500

  160. QBKilla Says:

Baker was good this year and should be resigned. We need a real Center and a new LG. Evans will probably be back so there’s not as many holes to fill on Offense as there is on D.

  161. Bob the Biggum Says:

    Terrible

  162. Mike S Says:

Beej – I’m not same bucc-ing so at least one other poster feels the same way about me.

  163. Daniel Dream Says:

All we need to focus on now is improve the interior blocking and improve our defensive pass rush. This was clear today: Detroit had all day to throw and it made it easy for Goff to be at his best. We couldn’t get any time to throw and the difference was night and day on amost every play. It makes it so much more difficult on every other phase of the game when losing the trenches. Bring everyone back, improve those two areas with the right FAs and draft picks, and next season we’ll be booking tickets back to the Superbowl!

  164. unbelievable Says:

Yes I didn’t understand why they didn’t use their timeout once it was 4th down.

Could have forced Lions to give ball back with 30ish seconds on the clock

  165. Ed Says:

The Bucs clearly didn’t make Jared Goff as uncomfortable as the Lions made Baker Mayfield. I was surprised that the blitzes that were used vs Phila. were not part of this game plan.

The Lions won because their offensive coach had a stronger game plan to attack a soft Bucs defense. On the other side Bucs defensive head coach didn’t confuse Jared Goff at all. Goff had an easy day with little pressure.

I will happily root for the Lions against the Niners and if they pressure Purdy as well as they did Mayfield, they can pull off the upset.

    I was thinking that too.

  167. Stevo Says:

You can’t have it both ways – saying it’s been better than expected and then being ok that they lost this game. With two turnovers, penalties and misses, they could have won this game. It’s not ok to lose winnable playoff games through MISTAKES.

Trask and the bucs are all but done as an issue. Lets say he plays next year and lights iit up ( total day dream)

Its his final year. why would he resign to the team that sat him for three years?

  169. Daniel Dream Says:

@DBS- I think however our secondary got so exposed mainly because we had so little pass rush. It’s too much to expect them to cover 7 to 10 seconds every single play. Then when Dean went down they really got burnt. I’ll agree we need another good CB for depth because our CBs are so dang injury prone, but I think the real focus on D needs to be improving the pass rush because it’s too easy on the QB when he gets so long to throw. That really cost us in this game IMO. Idk, who is the edge we can get in FA because my guess is the top C in the draft with our first round pick- you know that guy I’m talking about

  170. Bojim Says:

Disappointed but proud because the Bucs proved everybody (even their own fans) wrong. Pretty damn good year.

  171. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Not calling time out before the half was the beginning of the end for that last series it wasted 30 seconds on an obvious move by the Lions. We could’ve had one good play without having to hurry up. Those last two pass plays by Cornales sucked because we were inside 2 minutes and there was no way to get out of bounds. 6 yards on first down? We should’ve put in 2 extra blockers and gave Baker more time because he had Trey Palmer behind the defense. That last int should’ve been Baker’s 1st because of Evans. Too bad he felt rushed to throw that ball.

  172. Mord Says:

The JBF comments section is so consistently full of whiny and/or angry little b*tches.

This was an honorable loss to a good team, and it capped a remarkable season that should be celebrated

Oh, and Mayfield deserves a contract here.

  173. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

I mean before the 2 minute warning

  174. DBS Says:

Center is a need. But I don’t know who would be the best. There are to many people getting through and around our line. We had nowhere near the protection Goff was getting.

  175. BucaneroJim Says:

Beach and moan, but our team far passed most expectations this year.

Overall Baker was ok today – not the hot biscuit, we needed – but ok and not the big problem… and Canales offense calling just fair. The defense and Bowles were not ok – our loss was on the defense. The Lions had heart. They were not the Eagles or Panthers or Jags on a slide.

  176. HeavyE Says:

We need two legit CB’s these two nuts that we have are not good enough, for the pay that they are receiving, and always hurt, for one reason or another, they will never be good!!!! Or worth the money for there production!!! Neither one of them can catch or try to intercept the ball!!!!

  177. Paratrooper Buc Says:

Sucks we lost. Bucs were supposed to be one of the worst teams this season. 30 out of 32 according to SI or others who said 4 wins at most. We were one of the top 8. We will be out of cap space hell. Sign baker to 3 year deal. Yeah who else is out there??? I would love an answer. The loss caps his salary to likely 3 year for $30-35 a year. We sign Mike, Wirfs, Winfield and fix Oline. Look to the draft to help Oline and other gaps. As for who is left in playoffs, looking to bills or 49ers to win SB.

  178. Wow Says:

Licht needs to go. His 40 million dollar corners suck, #9 and #7 suck, interior OL suck. His Coaches suck. He pulled a SB out his A by Brady.

Trask, Aguayo, JTS, that dumb TE, what a waste of draft picks. And the list goes on

  179. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

“Why would Trask sign with a team that sat him for three years? “The only sensible and truthful thing a fanboi has said all year about Trask. Plus Blowles lied to him that he had a chance to start. When he planned all along to start Baker. He was drafted to replace Brady when he left but Blowles and Leftovers gave Brady his only losing season in 20 years with their stupidity. So unfortunately the Bucs will keep on being just above mediocre because of Blowles, Cornales and being forced to resign Baker to a much larger contract. Never drafting and developing their own qb

  180. HeavyE Says:

@Wow, Please say it again! Totally Agree!

  181. Tbbucs3 Says:

Trade Trask for a 7th round pick and a hot dog,

He is no longer needed here, we have our QB

  182. Rjscheapseats Says:

    Mord – very true.

  183. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

No one can look me in the eye and say this team did not exceed expectations. I’ve been on the fire Bowels bandwagon, but there is no way to fire him based on this season. I’m now going back to spelling his name correctly (Bowles.) I’m also pleased with Canales overall and we must resign Baker.

  184. Steve in Mad Beach Says:

Man, (breaking news) most of the commenter’s here are morons!

Turns out, only 1 team wins the Super Bowl and the Bucs were in the mix. Looks like we might have found our franchise QB!

Look, I’m bummed out too, but the numbnuttery of some this fan base is flabbergasting! If you think we should fire everyone because we lost a competitive game in the 2nd round of the playoffs, please lock yourself in a tiny padded room or move to N Korea where everything is perfect!

  185. Bucnation Says:

    – 3 points missed FG
    – 3 points off a sack to take them out of FG range
    – 3 points off an INT

That was the ball game IMO

Did they have one of their better games this year? Yes because they had flashes of a run game. But they should’ve and could’ve won this game. Sad!

  191. D W Says:

Baker was behind the eight ball all game. That last int didn’t put him there.

  192. Gipper Says:

Really hoping Baker moves on next year. The certifiable idiots who comment on these pages are insufferable. They don’t know anymore about football than they do about fornication. Mayfield was a sitting duck under constant pressure the entire game and yet for the second playoff game in row he throws for 3TD and over 300 yards.

  193. Wes Says:

Late input. Agreed. He was a sitting duck without pass protection. Not necessarily from offensive line, but also from running back or tight in protection. Interception was because there was a bull rush, and there was also defensive ends rushing all day without being touched. The first three and out after the half broke Baker. I think we have a lot to look forward to next year. Keep it how it is and get better. Obviously prepare for the next quarterback in line but I don’t know if you have to do that for another year or two. Rashad is running pretty good.

    ________
When somebody writes anything this stupid, it is pretty easy to tell they were on the debate team in high school. Goff was “cool under pressure” because he never was pressured and was allowed to throw into a soft zone defense where the middle of the field was open all game. Baker had almost no time`yet still managed to keep the Bucs in the game until the end.

  195. Bigdrew58 Says:

The bucs need to be bigger and more physical. We play any team in the AFC north. We get tired in the forth. You noice they fall apart in the forth quarter. Speed is great but when we play any team they are faster and stronger than the bucs we need to be stronger. They hang in the first and second quarter, they give up in the fourth quarter. Bucs tried but forth they give up. I rather them fight then give up the booty.

  196. Bradenton Beach Buc Says:

This team exceeded expectations. Give them another off season to improve. Win the division again next year and see what happens in the playoffs

  197. lanshark Says:

#1) WHEN, exactly, was Goff under pressure? Oh yeah, after the game when he got asked the hard questions from the cute sideline reporter.

#2) 350+ yards and 3 touchdowns is a winning performance. One INT cause our All-Pro tried to play volleyball, 2nd INT cause our Tight End can’t understand you run that pattern IN FRONT of the linebackers.

#) Said All-Pro quoted “he wants to be back next year, and want’s Baker as his QB”.
