Antoine Winfield Not Just A Premier Safety, He’s A Gamewrecker

December 20th, 2023

Elite.

Is Bucs safety Antoine Winfield a good player? A Pro Bowler? Joe would say no. He’s better than that.

Of course the second-round pick in the 2020 draft is a baller. He was a baller at Minnesota and he’s a baller in the NFL. But Joe is starting to think of Winfield as a different kind of player.

Winfield is a gamewrecker.

A “gamewrecker” is the ultimate defensive player. He is so dangerous, he wrecks games for an offense. A gamewrecker doesn’t just change games, rips the heart out of offenses.

Usually, you think of gamewreckers as Reggie White or Warren Sapp or Derrick Brooks. But a safety? Joe’s mind began to change when he was listening to Jason McCourty on “Good Morning Football,” seen weekday mornings on NFL Network.

Winfield has five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and two picks. So as McCourty noted, Winfield has been a part of 10 turnovers this year.

If a pass rusher was part of 10 turnovers in 14 games people would be comparing him to Deacon Jones. If a linebacker was part of 10 turnovers he’d be talked about like he’s the next Lawrence Taylor.

A safety being part of 10 turnovers? That’s just absolutely unheard of unless maybe the guy was Ronnie Lott or Larry Wilson or Jack Tatum.

This season the only guy who has a hand in 10 turnovers like Winfield is T.J. Watt.

Winfield an All-Pro? Should be. But he’s more that.

Winfield is a gamewrecker.

Morale will not improve until Winfield is inducted into the HOF and Ring of Honor.

Shades of Sapp, Brooks Barber and, dare I say it Lynch. All were at times “game wreckers”

Used to amaze me when we were in a close one and I would think to myself a turnover would be nice here….one of those guys would turn up the heat and Shazaam!

    Go Bucs!

    He’s better than Lynch.

He’s absolutely First Team All Pro in my book. I wouldn’t trade him for ANY safety in the league.

Winfield Jr was drafted in the 2nd round???? Yeow! I know Licht has eyes in the back of his head, but still….. The entire legendary 2002 Defense was a gamewrecker, mucho times.

WOAHH they’re ATL better than lynch. Idk about that bud. When 31 has done it for as long as lynch then we can go there. I do believe if 31 keeps up this pace for let’s say 10 seasons yes then he will be better and be a HOF. Between 13, 78 and 31 our GM could have picked potentially 3 HOF players. 13 is a for sure HOF

If you go by stats, comparing Lynch and Winfields first 4 years it’s not even close. Winfield already has more sacks than Lynch had in his whole career. I’m not taking anything away from Lynne, he was a great player, but Winfield is playing better at this point in his career than Lynch did.

Well y’all want to know something, the pro bowl is a dang popularity contest and if you guys want our great safety to make the pro bowl we all have to flood the voting because as of now Antoine Winfield is not even leading in pro bowl voting as of now if it keeps up this way he might not even get in. We can vote multiple time so let’s step it up. Look what happened to our beloved linebacker Lavonte David lack of pro bowls could prevent him from the hall of fame and that is a travesty.
