Mike Evans Catches Touchdowns No. 89 & 90

November 26th, 2023

Historic stud in defeat.

Joe loves watching greatness — and history. And that’s Mike Evans.

What a season he’s having, far better per game than he was last year with Tom Brady.

At 30 years old, Evans is aging incredibly well. His eighth and ninth touchdown catches of the season today in Indianapolis pushed his career total to 90. That puts him one TD catch behind Hall of Fame receiver Isaac Bruce, who played 16 seasons.

Evans also is just two touchdowns behind future first ballot Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski, who got his 92 TD receptions in 11 seasons. Evans is in just his 10th year. And remember, Gronk didn’t have the pleasure of having Mike Glennon and Josh McClown throwing him the ball.

However this heinous Bucs season finishes, it looks like a special one for free-agent-to-be Evans, who is at 850 yards receiving this season with six games to play. His 10th consecutive season of 1,000 yards or more looks like a lock.

Thanks for producing, Mike. It’s been a warm feeling in a cold, cold season.

Yeah you’re right Joe, tom brady sucked. Lets go Baker and Lets go Bucs. New prediction, Bucs finish 8-9, win the South and make it to the Super Bowl where Mike Evens catches three TDs.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

    Sign the man already.

And if you have to get rid of Godwin in the process, so be it, but Evans is a HOF’er for a reason and needs to retire a Buc.

  5. ModHairKen Says:

Evans is probably thinking now, “Thank God I didn’t sign a new contract with this group of embarrassing clowns.”

  6. Bojim Says:

Mike The Great. Wouldn’t blame you you signed with another team. But please, stay.

  7. RuKa Says:

At this moment, the real question this offseason is if Mike wants to continue to play for this team…

  8. BucsBeast Says:

Mike bounces after this season. He’s only got a few good years left.
    He’ll go ring hunting.

  9. unbelievable Says:

When Evans inevitably walks out the door, so too will go the last ounce of respect this organization had…

  10. Voice of Truth Says:

Mike is back to being an afterthought with Todd driving this team into the ground

    He deserves so much better

  11. Marine Buc Says:

If he could just stop dropping passes…

    Another drop today.

For those of you who want to “re-sign Evans now” – at what cost?

Is Evans worth top 10 WR money?

He will probably want @ $25-$30M for 3-4 years at age 31 (turns 31 in August).

  12. K_bassuka Says:

Mike making garbage QBs look good since day 1. Hope the Bucs don’t let him walk just to keep Maybefield.

  13. Buc king Says:

If Mike leaves the bucs so will i..he deserves the franchise tag if they can ink a deal.
My favorite player since d brooks n Warren sapp

  14. Fire the Gannons! Says:

Oh Joe #2! Absolutely love how you’re still dropping super passive-aggressive digs at Brady even though he’s retired and helped the your team win a Super Bowl and two NFC South championships.
Trust me, many of us know that you’d rather see the Bucs lose and return to their losing ways with a gritty southern boy like Baker behind the butt than win big and be one of the NFL’s top and most talked about teams with a pretty California boy who played at Big Ten school guiding the team.
Mike Evans is even better with Mayfield throwing him the ball than Brady! And this is important! BELIEVE IT. Joe wrote it so it must be true, lol!

    ———-

He did not have a drop today, what are you talking about?

In addition he had an incredible, insane catch to bail out Baker once again early in the game, in addition to the two TDs.

I don’t normally have issues with most of your comments, but no idea what you’re doing with the Evans hate, he’s by far the best skill player on the team.

  17. Leslie Opyd Says:

Keep Evans and Godwin and Palmer for sure .just find a damn coaching staff that knows how to use them !! Bowles sucks ! This is a passing league !! With run mixed in !! Please fire bowles ,out us out of our misery !!😁

  18. Knucknbuc Says:

Mike doesn’t want to play with this crap coach and learn a new offense when himself as the only no1 wr this team has ever had didn’t pay him what he was obviously worth. This team sucks terribly watch them sign Devin who has the ball again? White and Joe I had a sack when no one blocked me tryon if Todd loser trash can play 10 yards off on 3rd and 8 Bowles is around

  19. Lakeland Steve Says:

Irish Laughter, that was the best laugh I have had in a while.

  20. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Rod

    lol.

    Easy big fella.

No Mike Evans hate from me.

And – YES – he did have another dropped pass today.

This team isn’t going anywhere – all I am asking the fans is – Do the Bucs really need two WRs making over $20M per season when we don’t have a real QB?

It’s more of a question about proper allocation of resources for a hopeless team that is in salary cap hell and is definitely rebuilding.

If I was GM I would not overpay an aging Mike Evans…

    That’s all I’m saying.

  21. Texasbucsfan Says:

Trade ME at the end of the year for a draft choice. It will be years before this team can rebuild, also cut or trade DW, the two starting corners, & JTS. Clean house & rebuild for the future.

  22. unbelievable Says:

Evans did not have any drops today.

That poster ain’t the brightest bulb in the bunch…

  23. unbelievable Says:

    @Texasbucs –

Evans is a free agent. The team can’t trade or do anything like that, they have no leverage.

  24. Marine Buc Says:

    @ unbelievable

    You are wrong.

    Evans had a drop today.

It was a 13 yard pass – would have been a first down. But the refs ruled he did not make the catch.

Wake up and get your head out of the gutter little man.

  25. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Texasbucs

    Too late for that.

I just hope they him test the free agent market before we overpay him and waste a bunch of salary cap dollars.

It would be a waste for this team at this juncture.

  26. Marine Buc Says:

    *let him test

  27. mark2001 Says:

Wake up folks… this team is heading down to the low road. We could have received value for Mike in the next years draft. And maybe some other guys. But we will get nothing, we will still have salary cap issues, and if we somehow sneak into the playoffs will have lousy draft positions. We bet it all on the Brady years, should have moved on this season and gotten what we could. Instead we are a day late and a dollar short. The future looks so dark, you need a headlamp.

    lol.

    Easy big fella.

No Mike Evans hate from me.

And – YES – he did have another dropped pass today.

    ———

If you’re talking about the pass he caught, that Bowles didn’t challenge because he collects timeouts (finished the game with 5 timeouts in his pocket), even if you want to say he didn’t catch it, it wasn’t a drop as it still would have been a quality catch.

A drop is when you fail to catch something that every WR in the NFL is expected to catch. That would have been an above average catch.

The Palmer drop in the 3rd, that was flat out drop.

  29. Debbie Says:

Didn’t Mike change his contract multiple times in past years to accommodate the cap? He is a true team player, and deserves respect from the front office, coaches and a few discontent fans (?) who play the blame game. The realist in me says this is our year to pay the piper for our Lombardy trophy and cap deficits. But the Buc fan in me says we still can win the NFC South. Stop trash talking my team and my players. Go cheer your team, whoever they are, and get off the Bucs site.

  30. Bucs4Life Says:

I was at the game today 12 rows off the Bucs bench dead nuts at the 50 yard line and saw every single move. Evan’s was an absolute treat to watch. The inconsistency of the defense is well……I’ll save that rant for another day I guess, 4hr drive home

  31. unbelievable Says:

@Rod – I’ve already tried with marine Buc. The guy has no clue what is considered a drop.

Evans and White are the only consistent receiving weapons we have.

  32. BradyGronk Fan Says:

Rod : Agreed, the Bucs need to keep ME even if it means letting Godwinh go.

Godwin only has one year left on his contract then they should let him walk.. He is not worth $20 mil. With Brady he was as he was a perfect WR for him.

ME will command about $25 mil per year for 3 years. There are lots of teams who can use an elite tall deep threat receiver. Receivers like ME are rare.

I can think of 3 teams just off the top of my head.
    – Chiefs hasn’t replaced Tyreeks deep threat ability and Mahomed isn’t putting up the numbers he use to.
    – Trevor Lawrence is struggling
    – Texans have money to spend as they have a young stud QB on a rookie contract.

  33. BradyGronk Fan Says:

ME is on pace for 1300 yards and 14TDs. In this down year for scoring, 14 TDs might be enough to lead the NFC and get ME that elusive all pro missing from his resume. If he can do it again next year, he’ll likely get in the HOF.

  34. BradyGronk Fan Says:

In the HOF race amongs current WR:

Julio Jone and Tyreek Hill are pretty much locks.

    The consideration for Hof level:
Hopkins, D Adams, and ME need to play at a high level for at least 2 more years.
I don’t think Hopkins has much left. So either Adams or ME or both.

The next level, Diggs, K Allen, A Cooper, Bekham, are.likely too far off pace and won’t make it.
