Huge Opportunity For Chase Edmonds, Bucs Backup RBs

November 25th, 2023

RB Chase Edmonds.

Given the mysterious new knee injury to Rachaad White, it smells to Joe like a massive opportunity has emerged at One Buc Palace.

Possibly (finally), the Bucs might decide to take the ball out of White’s hands and his 3.3-yards-per-carry legs.

Yeah, backup Bucs running backs have looked ugly this season. Ke’Shawn Vaughn, Chase Edmonds and Sean Tucker have a combined 57 carries for 102 yards. Man, Joe cringed typing that. That’s less than 2 yards per carry!

Still, White has struggled mightily running the ball and Joe would have given others a shot at a full-time rushing load already. Tucker, the undrafted rookie, hasn’t taken a handoff since September. Vaughn actually got 9 carries against the Saints on Oct. 1, but he managed just 18 yards. He’s become a regular on the inactive list.

And that brings Joe to Edmonds, the March free agency signee. He’s the guy signed to replace Leonard Fournette.

Edmonds, 27, has juice in his legs and has flashed a couple of times this season, but overall he has struggled. Still, Edmonds has a history of past success and he hasn’t gotten more than four carries in a Bucs game. Healthy now after a month on injured reserve, Edmonds seems to be the most likely go-to guy if White cannot play tomorrow.

Maybe, just maybe, Edmonds could deliver the third 100-plus yards rushing day of his career.

White has one of those in the same number of career starts as Edmonds.

Man, what a boost it would be if Edmonds had an 18-carry, 90-yard day on the speedy turf in Indianapolis. Baker Mayfield might think he was back in Cleveland.

Why isn’t Sean Tucker getting more carries?

  2. Bucsmarley Says:

Boy we must be desperate hoping chase edmonds morphs into something special. Just lycanthropy believe this is what it has become. Just like baker is out qb of the future 😂😂😂. Blow it up and rebuild for the future

  3. Hunter Says:

I want to see Sean Tucker more often.

Seems like the kind of RB that needs carries in bulk to get going and then hopefully he can break a few nice runs.

Yes. And maybe Tryon can get 4 sacks. Davis, 3 picks. Devin makes all of his tackles. Bowles calls a proper game.

    All are just as unlikely.

What a joke. When they land the plane tomorrow after Bowles makes Minshew looks like Brett Favre, you can finally stop this nonsense.

Wyoming Joe will still be rah-rah with his head stuck somewhere, complaining that people don’t “believe”

    I agree something smells.

  6. ElioT Says:

    What a vaunted backfield.

    Colts better lookout!!

  7. Ward Says:

Patrick Laird is about to be the next Christian McCaffrey

  8. Jack Clark Says:

With Rachaad White out Baker Mayfield is our best running back 😂 Let’s just hope Chase Edmonds doesn’t slip and fall down again when a (VERY RARE unicorn) hole opens up

  9. Bee Says:

Gonna be a whole lotta run up the gut on 1st and 2nd down. Can’t wait

  10. DJB Says:

    Yes, Chase Edmonds Baby!!!!!!!

  11. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Give the ball to double V, and have Wirfs block. Winner winner, chicken dinner.

  12. Fred McNeil Says:

If White can’t go we will most certainly miss his receiving skills. Did they call Laird up front the practice squad? If our secondary completely dorks the coverage assignments again we won’t have time to run anyway. Nobody expected us to beat the Niners, but leaving Aiyuk and Kittle completely forgotten was certainly not forgivable.

  13. Marine Buc Says:

I think it’s time for the Bucs offense to utilize it’s mobile QB.

Let’s see a few designed QB sweeps/draws/bootlegs as part of our running game this Sunday.

What are we really afraid of at this point?

If Mayfield goes down will it be any different than a tree falling in the woods without anyone present?

  14. Obvious Says:

    @lawn chairs,

Now THAT would be worth the price of the ticket just to see it. Could you imagine?

    WOW!

Vica Versa is ok with me to. I say Go For It! ESPECIALLY if we’ve got nothing left to lose and it’s for all the marbles. (in Sylvester Stallones.voice) GO FOR IT!

  15. Scott o Says:

We suck and y’all want to see more Edmonds? Give Tucker a shot, he has the juice

  16. Crickett Baker Says:

I hope the players aren’t reading this. What a way to lose confidence. What a way to hear hate from the fans. What a way to give them a depressing state of mind going into a game. JEEZE.

  17. TampabayDJ Says:

Bunch of fake bandwagon fans ! What , did anyone expect our Bucs to win the Super Bowl this year ? No .. But to talk bad about the team you are supposed to root for , you are probably the same fans who sold their tickets to the Eagles, Lions, and even the Bears fans ! Worst fans in the world. And the least intelligent when it comes to football. Go Bucs

  18. Lombardi Lenny Says:

They don’t want to hurt R.Whites ego so they say he has a “knee issue” for cover and to justifythe other RB’s get the touches in the backfield

  19. BucsBaby75 Says:

The coaching staff must go the offense is terrible a good offense tears our defense to pieces it’s all due to coaching

  20. Dan Naughton Says:

Tampa Bay dj. You don’t know football! How long have you been a fan? Myself since day one. So if you know how to play positions then you can give a remark on how they play their spots on the field. Tough to see people making big money confused on where to be on the field. I was at the colt game and saw numerous times the backs to be out of position. Bowles a defensive people… Sorry I don’t see it. Time to say Bowles your fired!
