Key Rookies Are Active

September 10th, 2023

Suits up.

At least there is good news roughly an hour before kickoff for the Bucs of the 2023 season.

Rookies defensive tackle Calijah Kancey and right guard Cody Mauch are both on the active gameday roster. (Veteran running back Sneak Vaughn is not).

Kancey, of course, is the Bucs’ first round pick. He hurt his calf in the first week of training camp and was pretty much sidelined until this week.

Mauch had back spasms this week, a non-contact injury. Bucs coach Todd Bowles said it happened when he got into his blocking stance. It looks like the back is good enough to play.

Simply put, if the Bucs didn’t think they could play, they wouldn’t be in uniform.

Good news as the Bucs’ 2023 season is minutes away.

Can’t wait!

Cody Mauch looks like he was born in 10,000 BC

    Nice.

It’s puzzling why so many people are in love with “sneak.” He has done quite literally nothing to justify this mini cult following he has. The team released Fournette, and brought in a FA and drafted another running back – both of whom pushed sneak to 4th string. If he was as amazing that some fans seem to think he is then he’d be the starter

    Joe Says:

    Mauch blew out his back

It’s a bit of a stretch to say he “blew out” his back. That makes it sound severe, not the kind of thing you’d be suiting up to play in the same week with. Sounds more like a “tweak”.

  6. Fred McNeil Says:

Mauch especially is great news as long as there’s no setback. Kansey will likely be rotated in and out all game.

    Let the games begin!!!

Gonna go all Tom McEwan and have homemade split pea soup with smoked pork neck bones for a game time feast

Bucs line has reduced to 3.5-4.0 at most sites, meaning alot more money has poured in on Bucs.

    Good news.

    Can’t wait to watch Kancey.

I’m curious to see how Todd Bowles will utilize him…

    @GFTF30

spot on…its a Bucs life lol (sarcasm for the noobs)

its like this fanbase has to have that underdog story where we root for a long shot or want a player to stay longer than they should. Last 2 (TWO) years it was Scotty Miller.
DT should have made roster out of cam over him and Darden imo.
In past its been (special teams rookie w long hair), Chris conte, and others.

  23. Toad Bowels Says:

    Joe,

I think they’re sufficient audience demand here for you to bring back a Tampa tradition – The Tom McEwen breakfast brunch.

Give Tom credit for originating it. Maybe you could have it at Big Storm beer on game day and write about it several days before, invite Uncle Ira, Rock Riley, Sean Sullivan, The Joes and any former Bucs or local celebrities and I’ll bet you would get a big crowd.

  24. TampabayDJ Says:

Bucs win !! So much for all the fake fans and media they listen to about how terrible they will be ! They are just getting warmed up . Go Bucs and the REAL BUCS FANS !!
