Enjoying Proving Doubters Wrong

September 25th, 2023

Addresses preseason guesses.

Carlton Davis was absolutely fed up in the summer.

Just about every Tom, Dick and Harry in the national NFL press thought without Tom Brady, there was no way the Bucs would do anything but lose this season.

The Bucs had a losing season with Brady in 2022, they reasoned. And the last time Brady wasn’t the Tampa Bay quarterback, the Bucs had a losing season. So why winning now with a quarterback on his third team in two years trying to save his NFL career?

That was Joe’s read on why so many believed the Bucs were doomed and on the cusp of making a coaching change and selecting a quarterback high in the draft (#CollapseForCaleb).

Davis finally reached his limit. He told Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com that the Bucs were “going to wreck sh!t” this fall.

So far, his words have been prophetic. The Bucs are 2-0 facing a team tonight they handled quite nicely the last two times the teams have played.

Joe asked Bucs corner Jamel Dean last week about his read on the preseason expectations of the Bucs. Dean couldn’t figure out why so many were so down on the Bucs.

“I’m not really paying attention to it,” Dean said. “But I kind of figured people were doubting us.

“I just don’t know why they are, because, we still have the same team. I just don’t know where all this doubt comes from. I guess we making them believes.”

And that’s what former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker said on one of his recent podcasts. He too thought the Bucs were going to be garbage. He admitted he totally overlooked that the Bucs have multiple players on every level of the defense that started for a Super Bowl winner.

Being able to knock off the Eagles on national TV in primetime would go a long, long way in the Bucs planting their flag at midfield, announcing to the world they’re still a team to fear.

Nothing like a team that is playing with a chip on their shoulder and you can actually see it when you watch these Bucs play. Attitude of the team is far better than last season.

  2. Ricki Says:

Carlton Davis was so fed up that he decided to hurt himself.

Memo to Davis and Dean: Starting tonight, you guys need to put up or STFU!

  4. tickrdr Says:

Kudos to Baker Mayfield whose TD/INT ratio is infinity (3 TDs/0 INTs), which is even better than the 8:1 ratio (8 TDs/ 1 INT) that Fitzmagic had in 2018 after the first two games.

Mayfield is 20 out of 23 on 3rd down throws!!! that’s amazing after watching some of those games yesterday…. keep it up Buddy !!! lets go Bucs.

Great point 1976. Way better attitude this season. Last year they all looked like they we’re going to a funeral instead of a football game.

See the SI writeup on Izien? Great stuff!

  8. 757Buc’em Says:

Lmao he asked the other bum this team asks to cover wideouts. Dean and Davis worst money spent on corners. (D)avis n (D)ean = dumb and dumber…. Let Davis go after this season n find a trade partner for Dean. We lucked up by not having Davis play tonight, watch how they target Dean over Zyon. And as soon as Dummy Dean gets burnt made to look stupid he will fake an injury just like Dummy Davis taught him.

YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY WE’RE WINNING THE NFCS

    It’s simple really …

16 Bucs have Super Bowl rings. 30 have divisional championships. We’re the 2x defending NFCS champions. This team has championships in their DNA. This team knows winning.

We’ve been top of the mountain for three years. Stop acting like you’ve never been here. Stop acting like you’re surprised. Winning is and has been the standard at One Buc for years.

Got the usual BS whoppers on here like 757. Just once, I would like to read just for-real Bucs fans on here. Oh well.

These CBs always seem to have a lot to say.

They don’t rank high amongst their peers and they don’t always get the desired results on the field.

I wish they would just shet up and produce.

  12. TonySoprano Says:

Not the best timing on this article, Joe. Both these CBs are being handsomely paid. Once can’t make it through a single week without getting injured and the other looks like he’s mailed it in once he got paid. The only sh*t Carlton has wrecked has been his own toe.

    Then prove me wrong JDean!!!!!

Other than the bad Dexter Jackson, Dean is the softest pro I’ve ever seen. He rolls around on the turf like a little B at least twice a game.
