Ross Tucker On The Bucs: “They’re Actually Pretty Good”

September 21st, 2023

Podcaster and ex-NFL lineman Ross Tucker of CBS.

Former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker raised his hand on his recent podcast and confessed.

Tucker thought prior to the regular season the Bucs had a better shot at star USC quarterback Caleb Williams than they did a playoff berth. But two weeks into the season, Tucker has seen enough.

“They’re actually pretty good,” Tucker said of the Bucs on his podcast.

Tucker is from the outskirts of the Philadelphia metro area near Reading. So while his podcast deals generally with the NFL, he does have on several Philadelphia-based NFL folks.

That means his podcast occasionally turns into E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles!

If Tucker is not working on the road for CBS, he’s often Twittering photos of the media dining room spread from the House that Rondé Barber Built. Tucker, though he played for Washington and had a cup of coffee with the Cowboys, is close to the Eagles and has worked on their radio network.

Still, Tucker is one of Joe’s favorite NFL podcasters. He has strong NFL content on his family of pods. He had a very brief overview of the Bucs yesterday.

“I thought they were going to be one of the five worst teams in the NFL,” said Tucker, who was a teammate of Kyle Brandt’s at Princeton. “I was evidently wrong about them.”

What does Tucker think is the secret to the Bucs’ success? One big reason, Tucker said, is the quarterback.

“Baker Mayfield is playing as well as maybe he ever has,” Tucker said.

Tucker also said the Bucs’ offensive line is playing a whole lot better than what they showed in preseason, though he believes the Eagles’ defensive line can do damage to the right side of the Bucs’ line.

And Tucker, like others, admitted he overlooked that a lot of dudes who helped stomp out Pat Mahomes in the Super Bowl in February 2021 are still starters in Tampa.

“Those guys have played very, very well,” Tucker said of the defense. Because of the stout Bucs defense, Tucker said, “Making this is a much harder game for the Eagles than I think we anticipated.”

Russ and just about everyone else on the planet with cognitive recognition understood you have a career losing HC matched with a punky QB…

It has worked against the bottom rung of the league, now let’s see how they do against what those same people consider the cream of the crop

I want to buy in but have to see more than 2 close victories over very bad teams

monday evening when the clocks strikes 6:00 pm i just might start feeling a little bit dangerous

  3. Lt. Dan Says:

…”much harder game for the Eagles than I think we anticipated.” We? Yea – Ross is a good dude but obviously an Eagles homer.

I love how the goal posts move with hypocritical DB’s like voice of truth. I swear jersey wearing, beer gut man children at football games will always be number one in the hierarchy of the most insufferable people to debate with. Higher than political pundits on CNN or Fox News. Atleast on fox or cnn you have well learned, educated people presenting generally cogent arguments even though people in general will always be self serving with identity politics and hidden agendas.

The Bucs, by all accounts were viewed as not only bad before the season, but the potential to be truly awful vying for the number one pick. Two games in to the season, people like voice of truth are molding narrative in to:” but the Bucs beat bad teams.” So now people change their expectation and stance so that if they lose to the eagles it somehow still validates them. It is always a losing battle, it’s never ending. You will never win. It’s not even fun, and it’s the same stupid brain dead debates year over year

  5. Beej Says:

We had 4 starters last year who can’t get picked up by a team

  6. adam from ny Says:

    who are the 4?

    logan ryan
and the big guy, alway hurt, that played next to vita, and played for the bears?

    who are the 4?

just trying to figure out the 4 who are free agents looking for a gig

  7. Cardiac kidz Says:

Monday night is going to be all about the run game. We will have to use the Eagles playbook and have long drives running the ball. Eat a lot of clock and yards, when we need the pass, it will be there (thus far the Eagles have shown to be vulnerable in the air).
The Eagles love to run the ball, Devin White can show his worth Monday (Money) night by plugging the hole and getting the defense off the field.

  8. Beej Says:

Adam: Hicks, Lenny, Ryan, Brate (to my knowledge, he hasn’t announced his retirement)

  9. SufferingSince76 Says:

Way too many glass half empty guys on this site.

  10. orlbucfan Says:

All the bodies on POX Propaganda, er, “News” have to do is look good and read off a prompter. Just pulling for a good game MN. Go Bucs!!

  11. adam from ny Says:

yeah i knew i was missing one because nassib retired…

yeah how could i forget cam…geez we might want to resign him…lol…i know he’s slowed down, but might be better than wells

  12. WyomingJoe Says:

I hardly think that you can call the Vikings a “bottom of the rung” team after they finished 13-4 last year and put up 400 yards against the Eagles. Get real Voice.

  13. Fred McNeil Says:

The Bucs are pretty good and the Eagles aren’t quite invincible. I like our chances.

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

It really didn’t take that much of a deep dive to see how this team could be competitive and not a bottom 5 dumpster fire.

The defense had many key returning components from what had been an elite D when we had a pass rush; which was the main upgrade of the offseason between the draft and return of Shaq.

We were likely to have a bad offense early but we were a bad offense last year.

I thought it would take longer though for the offense to find a rhythm – like maybe after the bye or something lol but it was like midway through the 2nd quarter of the 1st game.

  15. Brandon Says:

Convenient excuses. Oh, I forgot that there are two All-Pro caliber receivers in Evans and Godwin as well as a potential All-Pro left tackle in Wirfs… oh yeah, and the very best parts of one of the top defenses of 2020 and 2021. This D is as good personnel-wise, or better, than our 2020 unit… but this team will only win three games. As I’ve said before, If Mayfield is AVERAGE this team wins 10 games. There is too much talent all over this roster for the team to collapse.

  16. Mike C Says:

One of those very bad teams was a playoff team, and the other one beat the 9ers last season….. no game is easy you retards

  17. godlovesbucs Says:

The Vikings ost to the eagles the same way they lost to the bucs. Turnovers.
The eagles look beatable. If the Vikings don’t turn the ball over 7 times (I think) in 2 games they are 2-0. I think Tampa can give philly fits as long as they contain devante smith.

  18. 1sparkybuc Says:

Last season we lost games to some really bad teams. That hasn’t happened yet this year. That’s progress. Keep that in mind. The Bucs are not going to win every game, but it’s already obvious that this team without Brady is better than the 2022 team with Brady. I believe the Bucs will win more than eight games with Mayfield or Trask at QB, simply because we have a better team now. That includes coaches and with respect to players health and experience. This team is better prepared. Don’t get too high with the wins and too low with the losses. We can win the division with these guys. Nobody expected the Bucs to be competitive. They were all wrong. The Bucs are fun to watch. Appreciate that. We had a few decades where being a Buccaneer fan was pure agony. That is NOT the case now. For all of us that have been here since the beginning, enjoy.

  19. Jvato24 Says:

    Exactly Mike C

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Amen, 1sparkybuc. Don’t forget our ST, too. They’re healthy. Go Bucs!

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Please guys, Cut it out and knock it off. We have 15 more games to play. We face a very tough Eagles team on Monday night and still have to get by both the Saints and Falcons who look pretty darn good. Long Long season. Anything can and will happen.

  22. Voice of Truth Says:

I love being trolled for voicing my opinion and called names etc

Beer bellied whatever he said – hahahahaha

15 year season ticket holder, millionaire, and executive level life Bro

If you can’t stand the truth, don’t read it

We beat crap teams and now the real games begin….FACT!

  23. TombsEN Says:

Voice of Truth…I do not believe anyone is trolling you or calling you out of your name, it seems like you just wanted to talk about much money you have and how that somehow validates your opinion I guess….

  24. SlyPirate Says:

Philly almost lost both games. Compared to Minnesota and Patriots …
    1. Bucs have better WR corp (JJ is awesome but we have 3x legit WR)
    2. Bucs have better pass protection (0 sacks, 1 QB hit last game)
    3. Bucs have home field
    4. Bucs have a multi-dimensional pass rush
    5. Bucs have Jake Camarda

What most people don’t know is, the Bucs have secret weapons. Canales hasn’t opened the playbook up and CK hasn’t played.

I like our chances. 50-50 game.

  25. Obvious Says:

I gotta say It’s Refreshing to be relevant. I’m Sick and Tired of the past and nickel and dime cheap shot artists, pundits, and plain nay sayers, that truthfully whos negative outlook we DESERVED…

Constantly throwing us under the bus, year after year… and some half arsed Coach or GM or another, or how about this… “the owners” DOOMING us to a place deemed and titled “appropriately mind you” by this site (JBF), by some anonymous Joe dude whom may or may not still be with the company, and yet appropriately christened our Teams home base as the “Den of Depression”. NOT “SWAG GALEON” NOT even TREASURE ISLAND.. because we’ve been so irrelevant for SO LONG that we instead was STRUCK and STUCK with an appropriate label of “den of depression”….. IT’S NICE TO BE RELEVANT FOR A CHANGE….!

And they’ve (JBF) done a fantastic job of being there through MUCH of the good time’s and Especially the bad because there’s been “SO LITTLE GOOD”.
The Bad of which has been Most of those years of a Rerun YEAR AFTER YEAR of the Epic Tale of the “Keystone Cops”!

IT IS REFRESHING, for what has turned out for me and I would think for most and for what “feels like” the first time of relevancy with “another” and wholy Different Coaching staff and overall philosophy that at the least “Seems” to be working….

There’s EXCITEMENT! There’s A SPARKLE ✨️ in our eyes! There is HOPE! There is PRIDE! We are ALL aligning behind one QB for the first time since our part time Hero moved into retirement. And THANK YOU Tom for the 2 GLORIOUS YEARS! And I gotta tell you that if you would have told me that we would almost “unanimously” agreed that Baker Mayfield was indeed the right choice, let’s say I might not have whole heartedly agreed with that less than 2 weeks ago BUT it’s Clear Now that indeed he was the best choice because what NONE OF US COULD HAVE KNOWN is that HE HIMSELF (Mayfield), MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE and is SHINNING BRIGHTLY and I’m now PROUD to call him My QB.

God please help us MOVE OUT and SOMEHOW STAY OUT of the Den of Depression, PERMANENTLY! It IS a New Day after all and we have a New Way….

    GO BUCS!

  26. Don’t tell me it’s raining Says:

VOT is butt hurt, like the rest of his fanboi group. He needs us to lose the next 7 games so his prediction can come true. I hope his executive position doesn’t require him to make speculations for the company’s benefit. Maybe he could use some of those “millions” to buy a Magic 8 Ball.

-2-7 start, 6-11 finish. Todd is toast by turkey day.

-When we are 3-8 the week after turkey day, is it time to hand it over to Canales and Kyle? Or does it come at 2-7 right before Halloween after getting blown out by Buffalo?

  27. Rick Says:

Any man that brags about their money – has none.

Nobody cares – and nowadays, being a millionaire isn’t a big deal. Equity in homes pretty much makes many folks millionaires.

Stop bragging – it only shows what you’re really about.

  28. Dave Pear Says:

Voice of Truth – ooh so impressed with your millionaire executive class status! And good for you to announce it on an anonymous chat board where everyone will be so impressed with your acumen.

You and the brain damaged Dan should have a baby or something.

  29. garro Says:

Wow…that was number 3 for the talking heads saying they were w w w…Wrong!

    Go Bucs!
