Betting Line Shifts Again In Bucs-Vikings Game

September 9th, 2023

Carlton Davis

The cash keeps pouring in on Tampa Bay.

This is for those who like to wager or who believe signficant betting-line shifts in a game are noteworthy.

The Bucs opened as a 7-point, Week 1 underdog at Minnesota when the NFL scheduled was announced. Joe jumped on that. Heck, the Vikings played a ton of one-score games last year and their team isn’t nearly as good this season. Then months later the line shifted to the Bucs + 6 1/2.

Next up came the line shifting a week ago to the Bucs +6. Now it sits at + 5 1/2.

That means the sportsbooks are seeing the wagering action coming in on Tampa Bay, so they move the line to entice more bets on the Vikings.

Joe thinks Sunday is a fantastic opportunity for a Bucs win — in reality and at the betting window.

The defense is healthy and very experienced, and very capable of locking teams down. The key for Joe is that health. Devin White talked about it this week and Joe also noted how the Bucs allowed only 27 points through Weeks 1 through 3 last season — then came the injuries.

Joe would throw more money on the Bucs but Baker Mayfield’s opening-day woes make it an unwise call.

The defense was playing lights out the very beginning of last year. I hope Sunday we can play even better. I hope our rookies shine.

    Regarding Opening Day Woes:

Mahomes always had at least 3 touchdowns, 0 interceptions and a win on opening day. Until this week.

Let’s break your streak too Baker. Time to shine.

Cmon Joe! You only get one chance to surprise the bookmakers. I got in when the moneyline was +210.

PS. Bakers professional debut in week 3 of his rookie year relieving an injured tyrod taylor…he went 17/23 for 200 yards. I think some of those opening day woes are the result of hue jackson and freddie kitchens making Bowles look like Lombardi and not having the TEAM ready for week 1.

  4. Da Bucs Guy Says:

The smart money knows that Todd Bolwes loves to lose by a field goal.

  5. HC Grover Says:

Keep it close Bowles game plan falls apart if the Vikes get a big lead. I think the key will be our WR’s. They will be open. Almost real football time. Bucs really need to score 7 on their first drive to set the tone and force the Vikes to 3 and out punt.

  6. Duane in Sanford Says:

If Bowles is going to play to not lose, his offense needs to chew clock, and get more opportunities. 3rd and short and 4th and short are going to be crucial. A drive ending sack or turnover for the D would be nice. Having the better field position would also help balance the margins. Easier said than done, but doable if we have a top 10 defense, improved special teams because of the youth movement, and an ok run game. This needs to be the calling card style a Todd Bowles team would need to win. Food for thought- even if this defense is top 10 is it as competitive or better than those of San Francisco, Nawlins, Philly, or Dallas?

  7. Cardiac kidz Says:

    You never bet bucks on the Bucs, it’s been proven through the years;
The Bucs lose the games that they are supposed to win.
The Bucs win the games that they are supposed to lose
And the Bucs never cover the spread.

I guess that’s why they are known to be the cardiac kidz

With the Hard Rock app, now closed, and gambling illegal in Fla. May I ask how Joe or anyone else is making real$ bets on football, etc??

  9. BucU Says:

This time tomorrow we’re gonna start getting some answers to the many questions surrounding this team. Shock the world. Blow em out.

  10. Tackleblockwin Says:

So much still to be learned about this team.

    Whelp….I took Bucs (+6.5).
    Go Bucs!

  15. BillyBucco Says:

The defense sounds pretty confident when interviewed this week.
They almost all talked about the front 7 like there is something new they are looking at.
I’m wondering if it is simply the combination of speed on the interior and keeping guys fresh with a solid rotation? You know, all 6 OLBs if Nelly can go.
If not, I’m excited to see Gil and Watts anyway.
Would love to see stunts actually work with more speed, unlike the Lovie Smith days when they looked like they were in wheelchairs.

I agree that the D will win or lose this game.
Keep them under 20 and I believe we win.

Hoping for a blowout so I can personally give the middle finger to Peter King, but a 1 point win still works for me.

  16. Mark A Swygert Says:

I am completely certain that I have no idea who wins this game. There is too much parity in the NFL. No game is a lock. The better team does not always win, and I am not sure which team is the better one yet anyway.

  17. PassingThru Says:

Bucs are now a 5.0 point underdog. It isn’t just the Bucs, there seems to be a trend towards betting on underdogs the past week. It might be the result of Detroit beating KC.

  18. Wild Bill Says:

I hope for the best but plan for the worst. That way I don’t suffer as much if they lose and jump for joy if they win! I just don’t have any confidence in predicting the Bucs until they show me what they really got.
