Trey Palmer: I’m Not Fast

May 13th, 2023

Bucs rookie WR Trey Palmer.

Bucs rookie wide receiver Trey Palmer made his first appearance standing before the local pen and mic club today at One Buc Palace and he sure came across as a reserved dude. Almost quiet.

After listening to Palmer, Joe thinks it’s fair to refer to Palmer as self-effacing as well.

Palmer, the Bucs’ sixth-round pick in last month’s draft, got all the reporters in the Bucs’ media studio to shake their heads like a Looney Tunes cartoon. Palmer actually said with a straight face he doesn’t think he’s fast.

Say, what?

Fielding follow-up questions, Palmer firmly stated he doesn’t believe he’s a fast receiver. This is coming from a guy with the fastest 40-yard-dash time at the combine among all receivers this past winter.

Folks, running a 4.3-second 40 is not remotely slow.

Palmer has insanely high standards, apparently. Joe asked him if he thinks he is slow, then who does he consider fast?

Palmer thought for a brief moment and said, “Tyreek Hill.”

Joe has to hand it to Palmer. Most cats who fly like him would be oozing with confidence if not arrogance. Not Palmer. He thinks he has work to do on his wheels.

Dang.

Looking forward to seeing this guy in action this preseason.

Hopefully he will be a big upgrade over Scotty Miller…

Hopefully he will be a big upgrade over Scotty Miller…

Already saw him in his first practice make a play Miller never made.

  3. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

He is right, Tyreek Hill is insanely fast.
But this guy is no slouch, and a total upgrade over Snotty Miller.

  4. Buc1987 Says:

    He’s quick… no matter what he says…

  5. D-Rok Says:

    Sure looks fast on tape!

  6. stpetebucfan Says:

With his speed one really good move on a DB and he’s off to the races!

Add in his ability to actually go up and fight for a ball as reported by Joe..this guy could be a sleeper.

  7. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Joe

Nice. Did he jump for no reason and fall down immediately while catching the ball?

Or did he catch the ball and run like he had a pair?

  8. Pewter Power Says:

Rarely do you get to run the 40 on an nfl field. Lateral quickness is just as important so maybe he doesn’t think he has game speed like his 40 time

Really I don’t care how he feels about it if he contributes something on Sunday. He’s probably the fastest guy on offense though

  9. Voice of Truth Says:

Straight line speed is nice, but the DBs have a 10-15 yard head start

The quickness in and out of breaks is what separates the greats from the rest

  10. Redeemer Says:

Pewter is right. I’m more impressed with the three cone time. Just cuz you’re fast, doesn’t mean you can get open. I do like the kid though. Much work to do

  11. Buccos Says:

Great attitude. Hopefully he doesn’t ever become a diva

  12. Robert Says:

    Love the mindset

  13. darengibo Says:

Scotty will live in Bucs lore forever, but I am hoping Palmer can stack those moments into a career we will remember!

  14. teacherman777 Says:

Antonio Brown was a 6th round pick.

    Palmer was at LSU.

He may become a great #3 receiver one day.

  15. Joe Says:

Or did he catch the ball and run like he had a pair?

It was in yesterday’s notes. Boxed out a defender, went up and got the ball. Can’t remember if he fell down or what but he got the ball with a guy all over him.

  16. Usfbuc Says:

I like humble, I don’t think I have ever seen ME or CG talk about how good they are either. Hopefully he follows in their footsteps.

  17. Bucsfan951 Says:

Joe, does this years draft class seem different than past years? Do they seem hungry to learn or wanting to learn more? Anything that jumps out at you?

  18. Redeemer Says:

I basically like what they did. Didn’t think this was an overly impressive class to begin with. Some “experts” may disagree, but I think they took a lot of gambles. Some may pay off, most probably won’t. They didnt mortgage the future and that’s important. Look at the Rams.

  19. Tim Says:

There’s something to be said for a guy that continuously gets open like he does, combined with the speed to run away from defenders. Love this pick.

  20. garro Says:

Great attitude. Somebody raised this kid right.
That should help him make the team and contribute.
Read they ran him on an end around and he showed off his wheels. Scotty miller 2.0 but bigger. Look to see more of him in this new offense.
