Meet The New Saints Consultant: Jon Gruden

May 26th, 2023

“Hey Glazer, you made millions off me being a foul-mouth, insensitive Neanderthal a-hole, and then you buried me for it without a path to forgiveness.”

Back in February, Joe wrote about excommunicated Bucs Super Bowl-winning head coach Jon Gruden’s connection to quarterback Derek Carr and Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht.

It became obvious to Joe (through various channels) that Gruden, aka Chucky, wanted his great friend Carr to be the next Bucs quarterback so the duo could at least reunite off the field and break down film in Chucky’s famous Tampa lair.

Licht and Chucky share the same agent. Also, Carr talked about his closeness to Chucky on multiple occasions even after the NFL fired Chucky for war crimes and Team Glazer, a group that often had espoused forgiveness and second chances, kicked Chucky out of the Buccaneers Ring of Honor.

Of course, the Bucs did the smart thing and passed on Carr in free agency (he’ll earn nearly $40 million a year from the slimy Saints) and instead bought Baker Mayfield for roughly 80 to 90 percent less money.

Today, via Saints beat writer Jeff Duncan, it was learned that Gruden is consulting with the Saints and Carr on crafting the New Orleans offense around Carr.

Joe is sad to hear of Chucky working with the Bucs’ division rival, a team Tampa Bay faces in Week 4.

Joe wishes Chucky mic’d himself up, but that probably was against the rules. It would be fun to hear Chucky ask Saints backup Jameis Winson, “Why are you a mother#$%@’n backup and when am I going to be your personal QB coach?”

    Ohhhhhhhh Boy!

  2. Fansince76 Says:

Chucky should still be in the ring of honor!

  3. Gofortheface30 Says:

A team that I hate so much does the right thing while our ownership displays cowardice and hurt little feelings by taking his name out of the ring of honor. Good for you New Orleans

  4. Mike C Says:

Look I get both sides of this argument, but If I owned the team and he called me a c**k suck3r…… I might toss his name off the stadium too.

  5. JeffreyLane77 Says:

I’m glad Gru was able to get his foot in the door. One of my pet peeves with Gruden is he always seemed to pine for other teams players. He had an entire 53man roster and this dude is excited about a player not even on the team.

  6. Dooley Says:

As if I needed more of a reason to dislike the Saints lol worst of luck to Jon Gruden

  7. Marine Buc Says:

This is a nice little middle finger to the Glazer boys… lol.

  8. Allbuccedup Says:

What Jon Gruden did had no relevance on our 2003 super bowl as well as no relevance to the Washington investigation. Total BS Warren Sapp said he wasn’t racist. He was just set up by Roger ” NO” Goodall I am sure there were a lot of other owners, coaches etc. that said bad things but Gruden was singled out. You can’t tell me Gruden was the only one. I believe Goodell and Mark Davis planned this to get rid of Jon and his contract. I will never respect the Glazers for taking him out of the ring of honor.

  9. Dewey Selmon Says:

Besides the big cap hit I wonder if the Glazers passed on Carr because of his closeness with Gruden. Even if we had the cap space Light would have been told to pass on him.

  10. Duane Says:

Gruden should get another shot. I wouldnt like it to be in Nawlins though. I guess the silver lining is that he falls in love with quaterbacks like a sailor on shore leave, and all we really need to be concerned about is Carr and Jameis for the next few seasons. I will take those odds.

  11. PanthersSuck! Says:

    Chuck’s lives matter

  12. Crickett Baker Says:

It’s weird. I liked the owners until a bit of name-calling got him kicked out of the Ring and I liked our president until he told Goodell to fire Kaepernick. Both were probably NOT the wishes of us peons.

  13. Buc4evr Says:

The Glazers went woke. Let’s see how they feel when Chucky wins million from the NFL.

  14. SlyPirate Says:

Chucky, Love and Hate the guy. Great XOs. HORRIBLE talent evaluator. Took Dungy’s team to the Super Bowl, then ran it into the ground. Total megalomaniac.

  15. realistic-optimistic Says:

You guys think those emails were the first time the Glazers saw that side of Chucky? They may have hated him for years but had their hands tied with the RoH because of the SB. They probably jumped at the chance to slap him around when those emails emerged.

And @Mike C is right, most of you would clap back if somebody said that stuff about you.

  16. Destinjohnny Says:

Gruden the gm was so awful
Gruden the coach had his moments

  17. Atlbuc28 Says:

Great move by the Saints, LA Rams offence is literally Grudens! The concepts, the pre snap motions, everything. Now the Saints have the answers before the test! A first year OC trying to use the same offence after only one year of himself learning it…. complete disaster

  18. unbelievable Says:

    Yeah @Mike C – I agree.

And having said that, I also think Chucky got a raw deal and was basically sacrificed so that Snyder could cover his own arse.

  19. CrackWise Says:

The Ring of Honor is for the fans not the owners. The fact that Gruden never expressed nothing but the up most love and respect for the Glazers publicly should have been honored by the Glazers.

The moment they reacted to what was uncovered during a totally unrelated investigation solidified whatever it was that Gruden said about them. The fact that they are trying to cancel one of our Super Bowl winning coaches because of it. WELL, some of you might be ok with that BUT that is why this country is going downhill.

As far as Chucky talking smack about players. Give me a break, you don’t have dudes loving you if your truly racist. Context is everything, not the color of someone’s skin.

It will be a glorious day when the Glazers are forced to sell due to their wokeness and Gruden is rightfully placed back amongst the Bucs Immortals! Until then, the ROH is a joke and everyone in it wears a hat of SHAME!!!

  20. HC Grover Says:

Saints stink no matter what. Beating Saints is the most satisfying But Win.

  21. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Glazers did him wrong, so payback is a Bitch!

  22. #99 the big fella Says:

Gruden ruined alstotts last couple years. He couldn’t evaluate talent for crap.
Having said that he should still be on the ring of honor.he did get a superbowl win.

  23. Vlad The Impaler Says:

    Ha! Karma is real bro

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Allbuccedup Says:
“He was just set up by Roger…”

    Simply not true.

Gruden said the things he said. There is no denying that. Gruden always had a bad mouth on him, and the media applied pressure to hold him accountable.

I don’t agree with him being removed from the ring of honor, but losing his job was a consequence of his own behavior.

The power of life and death is in the tongue. When you speak bad things, they come back to you.

  25. Vlad The Impaler Says:

Hate to say it but I’d bet $1000 that the 2023 season is already in the tank.
Last year was a debacle on all fronts and a stain on the GOATs legacy.
Hire Toad Bowels the infamous Jets coach.
Remove Gruden from the ring because he hurt your feelings w his mean words.
Kind of fun to watch the brats choke on the woke though

  26. Mike Johnson Says:

I wish Jon Gruden nothing but the very best. He got hosed and set up by the Commish. Don’t know where he is in his case against the NFl. But I do know he has won a few proceedings. Only one..out of all the Buc players came out and said something bad about him and that was, Throw me the D ball Keyshaun.

  27. JeffreyLane77 Says:

The Gruden email/emails in were leaked because the NFL players union was about to vote for thier representative. The league was worried the players would oust Demaurice Smith. Who they viewed as friendly to the league. Someone leaked those emails to rally the players around Demaurice Smith. To ensure his reelection. Gruden wasn’t the target he was a casualty.

  28. JeffreyLane77 Says:

As far as the Glaziers removing Gruden from the ring of honor? They made a business decision. I don’t agree with it but I understand it.

  29. optimisticbucsfan Says:

    Damn. I hate hearing that.

  30. Durango95 Says:

Gruden trying so hard to get attention.

    He’s yesterday’s news.

    Adios dog..

  31. Durango95 Says:

    Ring of honor? No.

When you act like a dirtbag you get treated like a dirtbag.

  32. Joe Says:

The Ring of Honor is for the fans not the owners. The fact that Gruden never expressed nothing but the up most love and respect for the Glazers publicly should have been honored by the Glazers.

Ooohhh, but he didn’t! Can’t remember the occasion but Chucky spoke before a group in Ocala couple of years after he got canned where he referred to Joel Glazer as “That Son of a B@#$%.”

  33. Durango95 Says:

He said a lot worse than then that Joe.

  34. realistic-optimistic Says:

Just one more reason to get excited when we beat the aints.

I’ll never forgive them for the Gregg Williams bounty program. He and Payton should have recieved lifetime bans for that BS.

  35. BigMacAttack Says:

I’m really over Chucky too. Yes I think he was railroaded out of the NFL. But for the love of Christ, what a bunch of wusses the G-Boys are, to get so budd hurt that he called them names. You’d think NFL owners might have garnered a little thicker skin by now. Then again, most rich spoiled brats born with a silver spoon don’t usually get the pleasure of being molded by Marine Corps Drill Instructors before they learn what hard and suck means.

  36. Durango95 Says:

If not for the Glazer family Tampa would not have a NFL team. Check your sheet and learn your history.
    End of/

  37. Joe Says:

He said a lot worse than then that Joe.

    Privately, sure.

  38. Durango95 Says:

    No Joe it was published.

  39. BigMacAttack Says:

If not for Malcom Glazer, Tampa would not have a team.

  40. lambchop Says:

All you short-tempered knuckleheads defending Gruden wouldn’t last a minute if someone called you a bad name. Imagine, finding out a sweet talkin friend of yours was talking spit about you behind your back. Should the RoH solely be based on the results on the field? Maybe. But, I think if the Glazers really despised Gruden, they’d remove the statue inside 1 Buc along with his name on the stadium. Removing the name on the stadium is more of a show that the owners are not pushovers and a result of Chucky picking LV over TB. There is more to that process that we don’t know about. But, at least we dodged a bullet. Gruden cannot make personnel decisions to save his life.

  41. David Says:

He may be the most overrated overhyped coach in NFL history. He’s never developed a quarterback, he likes players that are 30 and already know things, doesn’t do a thing with defense, and had trouble getting two pro bowl receivers on the field at the same time.

But… It is absolute garbage that they took his name off the ring and honor. He helped to bring a Super Bowl here and deserves that honor.

  42. Waterboy Says:

That’s great! Hopefully they’ll like him so much they’ll give him full control over the roster.

  43. Durango95 Says:

It was fait accompli the moment Gruden clicked “Send”

“The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.”

    TL/DNR?

He wrote it he owns it.

  44. Statguy Says:

He had the raiders playing well, that was after they traded Mack etc

Gruden ruined alstotts last couple years. He couldn’t evaluate talent for crap.
Having said that he should still be on the ring of honor.he did get a superbowl win.

    -Right on

  46. darengibo Says:

NEVER EVER should have been removed from Ring of Honor. Our society trying to rewrite history instead of just letting it be, oh i don’t know PART OF HISTORY! You think if the curtain was pulled back they wouldn’t find dirt on most of these execs and/or ex-players/coaches?? Virtue signaling gone wrong.

oh well. Good luck Chucky in your future endeavors (just not against Tampa!)

  47. Who Says Says Can't Say Says:

Gruden looked great when he had MVP Rich Gannon playing for him… outside of that, I have never seen the guru-genius so many love to paint him as.

    So… not worried.

  48. Fred McNeil Says:

I don’t agree with taking Chuckie down from the ring of honor. That’s all I can say about that. Good luck with the Saints, Jon.

  49. Rod Munch Says:

Anyone who thinks Gruden should be banned from the NFL for telling some jokes in private, those people should be force fed Drano.

  50. lobsterman Says:

    Gruden is my hero.

  51. lobsterman Says:

If Gruden said what he said while singing a rap song he’d be in the NFL Hall of Fame.

  52. Eric Says:

Gruden is the one that made Gannon. Before that he was journeyman at best.

  53. RustyRhinos Says:

Sometimes your over-eager mouth writes checks that get checked over by the bank, and you have to pay for what you said or wrote. Kinda like those pesky classified documents newly created laws that if taken without any permission get you 10 years per document, unless it was that fat guy in SE Florida with the Eastern European skanky old lady
then it is all just a bunch of BS against him.
Good Luck Gruden. Glad to see you are working again, I guess $100,000,000.00 just doesn’t go as far as it used to.
Thanks for the 1st Super Bowl Jon.
    GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!! BEAT THOSE TAINTS!!

  54. garro Says:

Kinda weak of the Glazers regarding Gruden in my opinion. But these days people are bing force fed all kinds of agendas they don’t agree with.

  55. Brent Clark Says:

Chucky got a raw deal from our woke a$$ owners! I’m sure their saints not the Saints…

  56. Brent Clark Says:

Oh and another thing how about when Sean Payton targeting players, yeah only slap on wrist but they still want to praise him, some of those players really got long term injuries from that, Gruden ONLY words and gets banished like he murdered someone! Does not make sense at all to me!?!?! Anyhow I’m happy for Jon he’s always had my admiration for getting us a SB WIN and should be in the Ring of Honor based on that one reason only period.

  57. Oneilbuc Says:

It’s crazy how some of yall including Joe thinks John Gruden is a great coach! What team has John Gruden built every time he had to build his own team he failed.
