Injury Bug Hits Russell Gage Again

May 23rd, 2023

Receiver Russell Gage

There are no injury reports this time of year and the Bucs, like most teams, are very guarded when talking about injuries in May.

However, once in a while an injury nugget slips out. And that’s what happened this afternoon at One Buc Palace.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield had a post-practice news conference and was asked about his big-name, big-talent receiving corps. In that response, he noted that “Russell,” presumably Russell Gage, is banged up. That’s noteworthy because Gage was injured in training camp last summer and battled various medical issues all season. He closed the year with a neck injury and concussion against Dallas in the playoffs.

“Russell had a little bit of an injury last week, but he was doing really well before that,” Mayfield said.

Man, Joe sure hopes Gage isn’t breaking down prematurely in his young career. The Bucs really need the sixth-year veteran to give more than he did last season, 51 catches for 426 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The best ability is availability – dude has been a disappointment for sure

  2. Jonbucfan Says:

When Gage was born he was immediately put on the IR list!

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

He’s good when he plays……if he plays….we need all the WRs & CBs we can get.

  4. sasquatch Says:

He wasn’t known as injury prone in ATL. Hopefully it’s just a minor hammy thing that will heal up in a couple weeks. Need to get Palmer ready to play.

    Anyone remember Glass Joe ?

The most interesting aspect of this article is BM’s big mouth. Leadership is knowing when to talk and when to shut up…

It’s ashame………the body can only take so much abuse….these NFL always push their bodies to the upper limits……

    Gotta get that money!!!!!!

……you always see players playing injured cause nobody wants to be replaced or out of a job…….

I think Gage’s body is at this point 👉…….but to be fair, he was never a big dude to begin with.

Man I don’t remember him being labeled as injury prone when he was on ATL. injuries do happen but man seems like this guy is always. Drink more milk bud lol

    Just another FA bust!

  12. Tim Says:

Ok, money wasted, but a great opportunity for Trey Palmer and Thompkins to get even more involved.

  13. ModHairKen Says:

This is ridiculous. Where are the trainers in developing a fitness plan that makes guys less susceptible to muscle strains?

  14. Jawain813 Says:

We have Palmer and Moore we good 👍

  15. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    Cade Warner anyone?

  16. Tim Says:

I’d be cool if Warner steps up. He sure talks a good game.

Ugh, was hoping we get a healthy Gage this year. He’s very productive when he plays.

  18. adam from ny Says:

hopefully a 51 catch season can equal more like 700+ yards and half a dozen or more tds…

400 yards receiving on 51 balls is a little crazy…

the team needs a little more than dink and dunk stuff…but that also was on tb12, the line, the blocking and lefty…

new year, new system should get gage’s numbers cranking…hopefully

  19. adam from ny Says:

gage needs to not be going over the middle and taking on the backers and safeties the way he did last year…

he’s not really built for that…

if they use him differently he has a chance to have a healthier season…

he’s more of a scotty miller than a godwin when it comes to absorbing hits imho

  20. Reality BucFan Says:

Let’s just go with the young guys…Cut him already save some money and bring in a vet LB or P.Paul back

  21. Duane Says:

Still early, but its a big ask for ME13 and CG to go 17 games. Big opportunity for the new kids trying to make the team.

  22. Fred McNeil Says:

Gage is gaged. I never paid much attention to how Atlanta used him. Wasn’t he mostly a slot there?

  23. FrontFour Says:

Wondering if this guy marked the team.

  24. FrontFour Says:

    … makes the team….

  25. Statguy Says:

Dude just needs to hibernate in a hyperbaric chamber till the season starts
